Firestorm is okay.
What is really needed is to improve the AI so it handles other similar working skills, from SS to Gladiator's defense. As it is, it's really silly that what would otherwise be a somewhat usable spell is being truned into uselessness by AI, while SS f.i., which is fundamentally a so-so spell, is turned into extremely effective by the same AI.

I agree, in 2 ways:
1) learn not to take a Ele w/o asking whats their skillbar or
2) Kick the ele from the party after the wipe and tell him:"Learn2play" in true WoW style.
In any case, just echoing the rest of the forum members, that having someone use a skill that is inappropriate in a specific area does not warrent nor justify the removal of the said skill.
Perhaps the OP should be looking at instead establishing a group of friends/guildie who to play the Elite mission so that he wont run into such problems in the future instead of asking to have the skill removed from the game.

I'm probably the only one who agrees with the OP, but yes, remove Firestorm. It has no good use. I don't know of a single viable PvE or PvP build that uses it. Also get rid of Breath of Fire, Searing/Teinai's Heat, Lava Font, Eruption, Chaos Storm, and so on. I have in good faith attempted to make them work with snares and whatnot, but it is quite obvious to me that the ridiculous contortions needed to have these skills not backfire are never worth it.
Of course in a realpolitik sense these skills will not be removed, so as a concession allow us to see the skillbars of our party members. This one feature will cure a huge amount of frustration and headache with Guild Wars.

tbh, if you have to spend 15 energy and 3 seconds casting to get something off you and/or your monks, you and/or your monks suck at the game. Put a hand up if you people have heard of kiting... Didn't think so.
And for the people saying it has its uses, well so does Otyugh's Cry. I mean if you have a few animals in the area and a pet, you can give them all +20 AL so they can do a little bit more damage. How awesome is that!?

Firestorm is a good skill if used correctly. If a team can trap a boss into a corner, body trap enemies, it's deadly. 15 energy isn't a lot to an elementalist if they have the right skills. Also helps to scatter enemies if the team aggros too much or too many enemies are on the soft target. Generally used with a snare skill makes firestorm even so much better.
I've used at as a poor man's PvE interrupt.
When playing Thirsty River with an ele I use it to "interrupt" the monk boss at the end (I've also used Balth's Aura on a w/mo). Of course this is with a henchie group and my character has no other reliable way of stopping it. When the mob is running it is not casting spells, and if done right it will not get close enough to cast until the enemy priest is dead.
While I wouldn't exactly call it a good use - I would have MUCH rather had a real interrupter or anti-monk character - but it did work. And at that point in the game I could not switch my secondary and many of the interrupts I had available (disrupting chop on my warrior) were too slow to get off and interrupt reliably.
Other than that I have not found a use. However, instead of removing it how about a petition to make it usefull!!! Up the DPS but shorten the duration, lower cost/cast time, increase area, or lots of different things. It should be able to be made useful yet not overpowering.
I do wish the hench ele had it removed. In the Nightfall preview I immediatly took it off the ele hero and actually had a useful memeber of the team.

er no.... fire rules. throw a meteor shower at some foes, throw bed of coals in there and then throw a firestorm at them as well. weeeeeeeeeeeee

just because you had some numpty ele doesn't mean skills are bad. doing unwaking waters yesterday we had a monk spamming heal party. i say spamming i mean he used it 4 times and then spammed he had no energy. so people started dying. BAN THIS SKILL!11!!owenoENEoenn!!!!11!!eleventyeonen!!!

I rarely take FS on my ele cus of the aggro breaking, but I still take MS and breath of fire etc. cus I believe they can be effective if used correctly. And sometimes it is actually necessary to break aggro if your tank is doing a bad job - it can give you some breathing space. Firestorm aint so bad, its just a really easy skill to use badly lol.
My question is this:

Wait, wait... even without the AI Scattering Fire Storm is a crappy skill and should never be brought. It's just... ugh. But so is the whole Elementalist Class damagewise. But meh, that has allready been discussed to death.
And about the people firing FS onto a well gathered aggro (even though you were told to better not bring Spells that scatter) Well do that once and you will get a warning from the team. Do it twice and you'll stay dead until you leave. I don't care for your lousy Firestorm. I don't care for the uber 9-15 damage it is gonna do to enemies (Armor and Level, you know?). If your lousy spells f*ck up the Aggro you're working against your team.

If you insist on nuking, take spells that trigger every 3 seconds thus avoiding the scatter mechanism. This basically means, one meteor shower and the foes won't run away. But cast one Meteor Shower and fire just one Fireball while the rocks are falling and you'll have running enemies.

If you want to play a High Damage Nuker, go Necromancer. Heck, even a Mesmer can deal better damage (AoE too).

incendiary bonds,
rodgorts invocation,
smouldering embers,
flare.

immolate a target then incendriary bond it. 6 secs of fire plus the damage.
it's what i use.
