ah geez, how could i've been so stupid ... i've never really thought about addin the sup runes to the headpiece. i've always had a different armor part with the sup rune and the head piece as an extra attribute point. so i was using 2 armor-parts to switch a build. but instead, u can do it with only one armor part, namely the headpiece. i've been wastin money and inventory space on that 2nd armor-part for nothing :P
for example: on my necro i like to be able to switch between death, curses and blood. now i used to have headpieces for each of these, and also gloves with the sup runes for each of these.. but i'm gonna change that now, so ill safe 3 inventory spaces :P

about dagnar, the rurik killer: i think hes an ele as long as hes riding that horse-reptile thing, but when hes on foot alone, hes a warrior (since he cant fight as a warrior on top of that horse) ... lol, just a thought

last thing: in nightfall u get trade contracts sumwhen on the way. hold on to them, dont sell them. in kodash bazar u can trade 7 of them to a trader there and get a ruby/sapphire out of it ... profit! (shame i found out about this after i traded mine for runes of holding, wish sumbody had told me bout this before )

I have, seriously, become so used to people saying it is impossible to get that far and still be level one that I actually found Cottage Pie's post HILARIOUS, and when I read his correcting, I still found it somewhat funny... especially considering I personally know a lvl 1 e/me at Ring of Fire who had a thread, a runner, a screenshot, and everything.
Cottage almost solved his own problem of "How would it be possible?" when he pointed out that getting out of pre only takes about 750 exp...If done correctly, with someone else doing everything for you while you get the bare minimum experience possible, you can get to Ring of Fire at level one. There are 2 major problems: the beginning and the end. For presearing, you have to get someone else to kill the enemies for your quests. You have the job of getting away so you don't gain experience for the kills. You also have to do the bare minimum for quests: None in postsearing, I think about 5 or less in presearing. Establish your 1st profession, get your 2nd profession, and LEAVE. The tricky part would probably be the transition from pre to post without getting experience from kills... but some friends in pre could help you with that, failing the first part, and letting you sit around while they finish the 2nd part. The easier, but more expensive part, would be getting a run (probably prefferably private) from Ascalon->Beacons, Beacons->Droks/Rankor, Rankor->THK. Then another hard part... getting a group for THK. At this point, you STILL HAVE THE 750 EXP FROM LEAVING PRE. It takes 2,000 experience to level up to level 2. Letting your friends/guildies/allies do the quest for you while you stay far away, or even suicide, will allow you to not get any experience. Don't even loosely follow, as ONE KILL will set you back lots of time and lots of money. With mission only, you will have about 1,750 experience and will be at Ember Light Camp. Say "hello" to all those level 20s, thank me, and get the group to help transport you to Ring of Fire. By the way, if you get this done successfully, a nice monetary tip would be nice ;P

You can use the windows keyboard short cuts CTRL+V (paste) CTRL+C (copy) in any area you can type text in Guild Wars, but it only works with the LEFT CTRL key.

So, want to add someone with a weird name to your party? Click on their name in the chat window. This will put their name in the whisper to box. Highlight the name then L CTRL+C to copy and L CTRL+V to paste it into the party window add member box.

Had forgot about that. I told someone to do that as an easy way to add friends with odd names that made it hard to remember how to spell them.

Incorrect. You can certianly put weapon mods on compatable weapons from collectors. And, since the release of nightfall, you've been able to salvage from them as well. The latter might be a bug, but if you want to test it, go to Piken Square. You can salvage both the barbed and charrslaying mods off of the sword from the collector there.

If you are talking about joblike professions, then I would laugh... if it was funny... yes please explain your (probably non-serious) reasoning for this... considering i have 5 lvl 20s alone and I dont have any 2 chars with the same profession... There were 6 in prophecies alone.... lol so obviously you dont mean "class" professions....

Yes, and this was very useful on 55 monk.
You could swap to +4 healing head piece to cast Mending.
You could swap to +4 Divine head piece to cast blessed aura.
then put on +4 smiting head piece again and cast Balthazar spirit.

Since all those skill were enchantments they would assume the +4 attribute when casting and stay like that.

Why put a special piece for balthazar's spirit? Energy gain isnt affected by smiting prayers.... idk this seems too expensive for ONE extra attribute point in each maintained enchantment... especially considering, although it wasnt as quick as the spirit bond monk, it had no probs with longer enchants.... at least, i didnt even need blessed aura...

BY THE WAY, I have heard that the old lvl 20 in pre nerf has gotten un-nerfed... there is now a title for getting lvl 20 in pre. The suicide-enemy leveling thing is back.... is this true? If so, this will definitely be one of the least known facts i have heard of..... and should i put a breakdown of titles?

I wished it didn't end like this since explaining a joke(?) often makes is stale. I thought most people who have PUGed would understand. You see in Factions/NF the average PUG only wants monks, tanks, eles and the MM. So if you have ever played some other profession you sometimes felt as if you weren't really there.

Because, on 55 monk, Smiting is the MAIN attribute. You finally put smiting head piece to cast Balthazar's spirit and go...farming.

I havent used 55 monk in so long... I used spirit bonder cuz it was faster, then i stopped troll farming cuz after the nerf it doesnt make enough money. Heh. in that case, it wouldnt be for balthazars spirit cuz that wouldnt affect anything... u just need a smiting +1 head piece and ur good to go.

I've noticed somthing odd with weapon mods. If you ID a weapon and salvage the mod it's worth 25g at a merchant. However if you salvage the weapon for the mod first THEN Id it, the mod price will be boosted to 48g.

Get a little more bang for those blues you pick up.

You can do the following too:
  • ID Item
  • Extract Mod which is now 25g.
  • ID Mod to make it worth more then 25g.

This is really only good at lower levels as purples and blues start being worth more then the mod that is salvaged from them, with the caveat that you are merchanting them.

Sorry if this has been said before,

Pre-searing
If you go outside the abbey in pre-searing and look in at the shrine you can see a ghost

You can find a hidden ruin near Fort Ranik behind some trees is a secret entrance.

You can look at various NPC underwear i.e. and some even have secret messages from dev

You can death level your characters in pre-searing, just pull a Strider/ Charr to a res shrine and let them kill you after some deaths they level up then if you kill them you get more xp.

When in pre, over the wall, if you get any casters in the groups of charr if you pull and then run so that the Malay NPC’s withdraw if you wait, the caster NPC will engage you one at a time, makes for easy solo over the wall.

You can stand with the king viewing the Charr frontal assault

You can use runes on your armour in pre, just need to find a player with the sup salvage kit; will cost 30k to 80k for one use.

You can farm ale in pre-searing from the bear hunters near Fort Ranik if you are after the drinking title.

You can tame a bear in pre, just have 2nd player aggro the bear, you stay just out or aggro range. On the bears 4th attack it will use brutal maul skill. When the bear uses the maul skill you cast charm. The 2nd player who has the aggro should start running in the opposite direction as soon as the bear starts the maul attack so that they pull the bear away. If you time it you will get the bear.

After searing
Many quests like the ashes/ cap son can be done many times just put the item they give you into storage and repeat the quest you can then repeat many times and sell the items for 100g to 4k for fast cash.

I suspect your estimate of the radar's size is off by several orders of magnitude.
Dunno if anyone's destroyed you on this yet...there aren't over 100 zones in Cantha. That list not only lists zones and missions, but points of interest WITHIN zones. To wit: The Shrine of Maat is a small temple within the zone Sunqa Vale. Also keep in mind that many missions share zones with explorables. So maybe do your research before you call someone out, or maybe work on math skills.

The Grandmaster Cartography guide on the wiki states the relative size of your radar vs. the world map:
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Grandma...tography_Guide (halfway down, under "The Math")

We don't see you rampaging over there to correct anyone, but in order to aviod hypocracy maybe you should?

I applaud the OP for starting this thread, regardless of the derision it's recieved. I'm a seasoned player and I didn't know that you could split stacks up by holding shift while you drag, or that ctrl+enter put someone's name in the whisper box. Let's continue to add neat tidbits to this thread!

alot of these are actually false.

a hammer has more DPS than both a sword and an axe,
the radar is a hell of a lot smaller than 1% of any map
distracting blow doesn't do damage, it doesn't do 0 damage, it doesn't hit at all

how about this one
in skill descriptions, "adjacent", and "adjacent to foe" are 2 different ranges, even though they sound similar
Actually, Distracting Blow DOES hit. It doesn't do any damage though. A way to test this is by using a Vampiric Weapon and using Distracting Blow on something. You will not see any damage number, but you will see a 3 for a life-steal of 3 from the Vampiric Upgrade.

Fair enough. Counting only explorable areas and towns on the overworld map in Cantha, there are 88 distinct zones.

With these numbers, my argument still holds: if the radar really did show 1% of the overworld Canthan map, then the average zone would be no larger than 1.13 radars.

It's obvious that the typical Canthan zone is larger than 1.13 radars, so the OP's old claim (that the radar is 1% of the Canthan world map) cannot possibly be true.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll make the correction on guildwiki as well.

I think it's worth noting that guildwiki listed no reasoning or justification for their "1%" claim. If there are people who still believe this claim is true, I'd welcome them to expand on how they obtained the number in the first place, so that I can point out where they are wrong.

This is a great thread, and cheers to the OP for starting it. I'm glad that people on guru can share their knowledge to help each other learn about the game.

To this end, I think a thread of correct facts is more useful than a thread of facts mixed with disproven rumors. Wouldn't you agree?

To add further to the thread:

If you cast a self-heal while under a hex like Backfire, Spiteful Spirit, or Soul Leech, the hex damage will be applied before the healing.
