Anyone else bored?
garethporlest18
I'm not bored yet, still got plenty of things to do. I will be soon though, then I will go sit in Grotto and talk all day. Not do anything else because there is nothing else that interests me besides making in game GW money. Which I can't do in a fun way because of the farming nerfs. For me.. Money>Fun, but fun=money. Once I'm the best, the richest and the almightiest I will be content with GW and play no longer.

That being said, there are some things that are unacceptable forms of play/usage: TOS or EULA violations. Other than that, I read nothing from Anet telling me there was a particular way to play the game and that they would go through lengths to make sure I did so.
For a game developer to make concerted efforts to maintain a particular style of play would not go over well, be it PC, console, or board game.

Yes I feel exactly like the OP,
I rushed through NF on my monk and now am halfway through on my war but am poor with only 86k and bored with no active source of income from farming

Obviously from the huge outcry on these forums, people enjoyed being able to farm, so I don't really know what the motive behind nerfing farming is. If people were enjoying playing their game, why change that?
Random Scrubinator
I'm guessing farming got nerfed because too many people complained that max equipment was unaffordable and giving rich players an advantage (despite collectors, better gold stats, greens, faction, salvagable components, crafters, and probably other changes that I can't recall)
Considering how in PvP, perfectly counterable skills often get nerfed to the point of uselessness, I wouldn't be suprised if this is the case

There is tons of online games which has endless farming. Go play them. Useless to come here to complain that I want that and this to GW too and how something sucks. Clone games are the games what I would call boring. Same ideas with new graphics and sound. Yawn...

Bored. rly bored.
If all the thing's will not change soon, i'll quite GW.
NF+all that unlogical updates suck compared to Prophesies.
Making only PvP IS boring. Completing same quests/missions again IS boring. Right now i cant see anything else i can make in game.
For me GW is dead.

The thing what really bugs me is that farming seems to be the only solution for alive end-game. Maybe they are trying to put something creative instead. Can't you see any other solution for end-game than monotonous farming?

Or running chest after chest. or insect after insect.. for title after title....
Or repeating quest after quest after quest.. just so i can beat the game with all my characters..
ya what was i thinking wanting to have fun farming a new game. when i can run the same quests, builds for ha, and sunspear titles over and over and over..
I KNOW I WILL SIT IDLE IN GROTTO and talk about my current movie choices..
better yet.. i should try to teach my hero to fetch... GO KOSS!!! FETCH THE DROP!!!
you are right.. farming is so monotone.

The reason why people get bored with Guild Wars is because it isn't an open-ended mmorpg like say World of Warcraft, Dungeon and Dragons, Lineage 2, and so on. In other words, Guild Wars isn't a true mmorpg. It's a limited mmorpg in terms of once you go through a portal from a town, you're by yourself or with the people in your group only. You can get from point A to point B within days in terms of completing the PvE gameplay.
Make Guild Wars into a mmorpg like World of Warcraft and you'll see less people complaining about becoming bored. But then you'll have new complainers about the monthly fee and yada yada yada.
But unless Guild Wars can become a mmorpg like World of Warcraft except without the monthly fees which I can see never happening lol, people will continuly to get bored with Guild Wars until the next chapter comes out.

Now. wait a few weeks. then you will see a steep rise in the ammount of people that share this opinion. both on guru and in game.
when there is nothing left to do. alot of the folks that are happy now and do not agree with some of the points on this thread.. will agree.
you can mark my words on that.

I'm not, because I didn't rush through Nightfall. Still haven't beaten it. Still not bored. And this isn't to say I haven't been playing. I have.
I have no sympathy for people who rushed through the game.

I dont see how farming isnt monotonous. After youve completed all the quests, al thats left is the monotony of doing the runs, going out killing lots of things for drops(farming), going to certain places to get drops from chests(usually the same areas), going for titles(usally doing the same thing over and over, like IDing drops, or Drunkard title), and I dont get how any of thats enjoyable. Im a 180 degree turn from just about every other post here, I dont famr, do runs/chest runs, bother with titles. The only one I have is Protector, and got that because I wanted the xp for missions and bonuses. Can anyone help clarify why they enjoy it so much?

I don't think anyone wants gw to become a variant of wow. That's not what this thread is about imo. It should be about why so many are bored/fed up and what could be done about it.
I'm not entirely out of it yet, but definitly on my way there. Pweety pictures are not enough anymore (tho thumbsup to the devs on that point!), don't do PvP for all the rudeness, and don't care to have all the quests/missions done on each and every char.
Farming was like knitting. Do it yourself on quiet days or invite a friend along, chat, and come up with new patterns to knit. I miss it too. Now bosses follow you indefinitely (e.g. Witman's Folly), aggro is bust, and casters run off the moment you hit space. Running in circles = wasting time.
So what would make me like the game more?
Let me experience the rush of killing large mobs!
Silly extras. I'd love to beat a friend or two at some irrelevant in-game game, like cards or dominoes or even tetris, lol. Not money-sinks, just games.
Have me solve a riddle other than "how to kill mob x" or "get to point A, B and C".
Weekend events not geared towards making gold.
And on a general note:
Toon customization. My wamo needs a new hairdo.
Offensive players banned. Massively.
Release the next expansion a few months later than usual, but well tweaked.
Tie expansions in with the now empty areas, to bring people back.
Perhaps raise PvE toon level cap to 21 or let the exceptional players have something extra - like if all titles are maxed out + at least 3 chapters done + 10mio xp etc.
GW isn't really open-ended imo. "Community building", just hanging out etc. is not really the point. Missions done + gold + titles + PvP wins = goal. If you don't care enough for any of it, there's little else for you to do. But when you get there, then what? Retire? Meh, no point in doing it then.
What would you find fun?

i'm not bored with guildwars and i enjoy the game just as much as during the first days of the betas. but i agree with a lot of ppl here that farming is/was fun. i played most popular farming builds for a bit (and one or two of my own), and making a farming build work is just as much fun as doing a quest or exploring an area for the first time. like the adrenaline rush of hitting cyclone axe and having the screen explode with numbers, or farming an area alone where you know that 90% of the game's population have trouble with a party of 8 because they are casual players.
personally, i dont care much about ingame gold, and i didnt really try to farm in the traditional sense since nightfall release. but i miss the good old farming builds like wa/mo minotaur, 55 monk uw or vengeful ritualist madness simply because the builds were fun to play.

well i am still enjoying PvP part of game (HA, GBs)... but PvE i am afraid i am getting bored. I finished Factions 5x because it was funny and relaxing game, now Nightfall with pretty hard Realm of Torment when you have to go very slowly not to make mistake is... well little bit tame (yea i know, game must be challenging but...)
we will see how it will change in future months (Factions too got many changes through time)

hmm.. what close minded thing was said to me earlier... hmmmm oh ya...
PROVE IT.
and im guessing you have been around seince the launch of the new nightfall game.. because the first week after the update every person of every town you would enter.. was bitching about the ai update.. and still they are.
the funny thing is.. if anet did change things for the better.. people like you would be like "i knew it all along"
I know there is much work that needs to be done to this game in order to make it long term playable again. and the difference between me and alota the people that either support or dont support the idea in the thread is..
im not afraid to fight, piss, moan, bitch, complain or any other kinda crappy act a person can do to get their point across.. i will get my point across regardless of the fact that you like it or not.
because i know that the squeaky wheel gets the greese.. and the sidliners like yourself who are afriad to make any ripples can just get the hell outa my way..
because one way or another myself and the people like myself will fight untill we see results.. there is nothing you can say to stop us from doing that.

Amity and Truth
I'm bored and disapointed.
Yes i've played this game for a long time, i even played through Factions which i hated with such a passion that i now made a vow to not enter it again, no matter the costs or demand for it. But that's entirely my fault. Nightfall is great, it's looking fine, it's fun to play through it and experience all the little secrets it has to offer.
However there are two things that burnt me out from the game. One was that i invested lots and lots of time into finding the non existant Elite Mission which we didn't know it was missing back then. After putting in hours after hours in search of it and then reading it's not in - well it was an instant bummer. Yes it was my own fault for even searching for it (after all it was in the manual) but the whole story resulted in one word: Futile.
While yes, as a game it is futile to start with. But i've enjoyed Guild Wars nonetheless. I've been kicked down by A-Net's Update Policy for a long time. I stood up every time, pushed down my frustration about another destroyed aspect and told myself "well, play it for the fun, play it for the friends you met there".
And updates did came, each update made my friendslist dwindle in numbers. I literally saw friends leaving the game and they all left for the same reason "nah, there is no reason. No matter what you do, it gets destroyed". I've also made and backed up plenty of suggestions to GuildWars. Not those illusionary ones but ones we actually need for the sake of the game: Reconnects or a function to unstuck your character (other than purposely killing yourself) for example.
Do we have reconnects? Do we have an unstuck function? Do we have a proper Party Forming System? Do we have a Tradesystem Improvement? Where is our promised Guild Storage? It's futile.
Whenever an update ruined a part of playing for me, i told myself to just adapt to it and to stand up again. I did, many times. But every time i did so i asked myself why i did it. Because everytime i finally adapted and found my way in the game, it was taken away again by some Update. Every build i made that worked, was nerfed. Every farming technic i made - was nerfed. Every character i made - was nerfed.
Sooner or later i realized that this is part of their chapter policy. They allways start with powerful spells and plenty of loot. As a chapter moves on and the next chapter is about to get released we see a huge number of nerfs coming to the old campaign, literally destroying builds left and right and leaving nothing behind. Loot gets ridiculously low.
So we buy the new update and: lo and behold, loot is great and the spells it brings are back to the old powerlevel. I thought it to be a coincidence but then the same thing happened to factions. Playingstyles were destroyed left and right, loot dwindled and a new chapter came. Woot, new powerful skills on the old powerlevel and look, there is loot too. You know what this told me? No matter what i do, no matter how hard i try to find my spot in the game. It will be destroyed to motivate me to buy another chapter.
This of course just applies to me and is my personal opinion. But it really all boils down to this one word "Futile" (aside from it being a game). Every achievement is taken away, every playingstyle i came up with was destroyed, everything i enjoyed about old chapters was removed and last but not least, friends are leaving the game left and right. I don't care if there are more players in a whole than ever before. I'm losing friends to play with and thanks to the new Hero System it's extra hard to even get to know new people as PUGging is even harder.
And after all, for what? They'll leave too... futile.
So yes i'm bored with the game. It's simply that i no longer have any interest in being creative. No interest in inventing something new. No interest in finding something new. After all, it will just be taken away anyways. Maybe it is moreover Apathy instead of boredom. But one is a follow up of another and basically i've stopped playing the game but i'm too stubborn to acknowledge. Out of the sole reason that i tell myself "now a-net must see, they can't go down this road, it's a madness they don't dare!". And they do. Everytime. A-Net is imho too concentrated on being different that they're forgetting one major thing about their players. Everyone of them is different too. Everyone of them enjoys another aspect of the game. For every aspect they take away and provide no substitute for - they're losing a player.
This is the aspect i don't understand about A-Net. Who told them that taking things away is a good idea? No one except the spiteful other side will be happy when things are taken away. And they're just happy because someone else was hit by the nerfbat. Taking away does not add to the game, it substracts. I've not seen a second company removing so many things from their game as A-Net, alienating another playerbase everytime they do so.

i used to farm a lot, it was fun id make the full loop out of the armory. not only would i get greens, but id accumulate a lot of gold and skill points as well. farming was more fun than goin to Shing jea and "naked dance party!" or acting like a total geek and "role" playing...literaly. like we are sitting around a table playing DnD. im going to cast magic missle! lol i see so many people role palying in towns its funny. i get good laughs out of them. id rather kill stuff than go do some stupid quest..."bring so n so to this place and retrieve this item and bring back to me so i can send u in opposite direction and meet this guy in this other place so u can get this weak worthless item" FTW! woot! ive got a sword, i wanna kill stuff. if i wanted to be an errand boy, id go to pizza hut and apply. i do however like the missions in NF they are pretty fun. farming nerfs suck. pls make it so i can get a scar eater for my heros....the damn thing wont drop it for me and it takes forever to kill him.

No doubt about it but i'm bored as well. Without farming i'm not very motivated anymore. I have 14 characters and i'm not going to play them through the NF campaign. I haven't even been able to get one accross it. Now that I think about it I haven't opened gw in a good 2 weeks now .
Honestly I don't think gw will last much longer with expansions , I had my fun farming but it's PVE storyline doesn't offer much . It's repetitive.
I call it quits for now .
I agree with the post up above as well , heh my friends list is gone . I had more fun playing with my friends but they lost hope in gw , it's sad but i'm agreeing with them now and I guess it's soon time for me to quit as well.
I put so much time into my characters preparing for NF and thinking NF would be that great..
Nerfs as well , you can only tolerate so many nerfs aimed directly at a players enjoyment of the game . Yeah adapt and adjust but it's not fun to do it it's irritating , annoying . It seems to me nerfs fail at what they try to accomplish because players just try to find a way around it so I don't understand why bother nerfing in the first place.
I think it's because when I used to open GW I had a goal , some new armor to get or some new weapon to work for and it was possible to get. Now when I open GW I think hey , since I can't get that armor due to gaining funds would take me a life time i'll just uhh , pve... missions... quest.... hero system that literally allows me to play by myself (that's fine for farming but for the whole game uhm..) ..

but its good to see just how many people are actually feeling this new emotion of "what now" with nightfall getting a bit older.
Im sure if there is enough people voicing an opinion about it.. somone at anet has to take notice..
Just dont expect gaile in here anytime soon to smooze things out about the update... she sticks to slightly more "fluffy" topics.
i would like to see an anet rep come into a thread like this and explain their side of the whole update story. that would be very interesting to hear.

Am I bored you ask? Yes, I am very much.
I am bored of these people here on the forums saying how they love to replay missions ten times different toons. I am bored of how whenever people bring up this topic there are some others who like to be a pain in the arse and say "adapt".
I am bored with Anet, and how this game developed. For my first 500 hours of gameplay, I had not played a better game in my life. But, after that there was nothing to do...and there still isn't. I used to think everything being instanced was good, my mentality was at least no noobs pestering me or ksing or things like that...but now I seem to have changed...
Why? Because its actually human interaction. Hell, thats why we all play mmorpg's here, to play a game with other people around the world. But, with these stupid heros and instanced maps, this will never happen.
And grinding..yes this game is a grind game. A big grind game, but it is not apparent to the common observer. Farming, chest runs..I can't say I liked them, but they were basically my main income source (Yes +30 health magmas!!! ), and now nothing. Now, all these millions i made, they seem worthless to me, maybe ill hold an auction like some other players and just give it all away...
I can't say there is a specific reason to why this game is fallign apart. Just something about it..all things put together in one scream boredom through my monitor. PvP is the same thing, same build, same combo over and over again. PvE..same cookie cutter builds.
But no endgame content..this is the worst bit. No, the POSSIBILITIES ARE NOT ENDLESS!!BECAUSE CASH IN THIS GAME IS THE ENDGAME! Its not pvp..its just accumulating money for fow or for something else. But..when the cash gets nerfed..no endgame content anymore. Sigh, I guess ill try out goonzu online or some other f2p, heard it was good...
I am bored of these people here on the forums saying how they love to replay missions ten times different toons. I am bored of how whenever people bring up this topic there are some others who like to be a pain in the arse and say "adapt".

Scarily I DO understand the headspace many of the posters are in. However I am not bored as many are but I AM frustrated by the farming nerfs and as a result am far less inclined to want to get my other chars thru NF.
Paying for the armors is a potential nightmare and one I dont personally wanna go thru. Raising funds in NF (and GW as a whole) has become harder and harder and is getting to the point of GRIND, something Ive never actually felt before.
The aggro nerfs are becoming silly and IMO affecting gameplay to the point of frustration (theres that word again!). And thats the nub of it, Frustration.
Styles of play and enjoyment that have been around for long enough for many to believe that they WERE a part of the GW game, have been or are being buggered to extinction. And the response of "No theyre not, it just takes longer....." is pretty darn weak and then just highlights the MUST HAVE MORE TIME APPLIED factor.... isnt that called GRIND? So whats left?
Character development...ALL of your chararcters. Well thats not the way I play and it appears to be the same many others too, and even if I chose to follow this path how in Balthazars name am I gonna fund the funky armors and skills without an increasing amount of mindless grind (another word that keeps popping up!) that has been introduced into the game as a result of constant farm nerfing.
Now I clearly dont speak for ALL players and wouldnt dare to say so. But it does confuse me as to why ANet are persistently changing "the game" to be a different creature regardless of Campaign. What once was is no more. Thats not what I bought into. Were GW 1 to be the game IT WAS and NF and subsequent campaigns to be completely different then fine... but forcing the older game into being the new style doesnt fit.
Theres obviously a number of drama queens that believe they are the voice of a majority (in THEIR minds not necessarily in FACT) but as one poster has stated, it takes people to stand up and say SOMETHING to make ANY difference whatsoever.
Blind acceptance of things that are unacceptable to some people is foolish and unwise. Games such as GW develop with input from the players regardless of whether its positive or negative feedback.

As a long time Guild Wars player, I have to agree. I have logged well over 2700 hours since Chapter 1 came out. I have 5 PvE toons and just finished NF tonight with my Ranger. But already I am looking at my other 4 character wondering if they will make it to the end of NF. At this point I doubt it. I am tired of Arena Net and their nerfs. I am tired of their one sided promotions to boost sales in certain countires. But the main point I have is the farming. I used to love going to UW with guildies. We would go down there with 3, 4, 5 man groups and actually do quests. 55, ss, famine rangers, and other random guildies that wanted to go along. We would waste time, have fun, and BS on vent - the whole time doing something as a group.
Hell even after a 2-3 hour run down there I would come out with 8-10k. I didn't care if I got an ecto or any high end golds. To me it was about the small amount of gold I got, and things I could sell to the merchant. Thats how I kept my cashflow up to support characters. I was happy with having a 15k suit for each character, collector weapons, and maybe the occasional green.(Only if that character was nice to me, and didn't talk back). But now thats not possible. I never 55'd, I went as a support character and now the fun is gone. And the nerf seems to be to the entire game.
I've spent the last 4 days doing quests, missions, random mapping to get my Chapter 1 mapping title. I've gone from Great Northern Wall, to Hells. Re-did just about every single mission in game to get that extra little map space I missed. Out of the 14 missions I redid, I saw not 1 gold item of any kind drop, not even a decent purple. Even the chests were all purple, and I found at least 40(most in the desert).
I'm Just saying that the game is offically boring now. The replay-ablity is gone. To some it is not, to some it is. I am an old school EQ player. My Guild comes from Everquest. And in all the years I played that game, Sony EQ not once nerfed the game. They came out with new expansions every few months to keep us interested, and we bought them. Because the game was still fun. And the in-game events were fun too. ANd Sony Made damn sure that before they released an expansion, IT WAS COMPLETE! I can't stand that I spent $150 on 2 collectors editions only to find out that yet again, I can;t access the elite mission. Because anet hasen't even put it in game yet. I really think they need to re-think the whole 6 month policy. Release a game when its ready, not before. You lose more players that way. And I've looked over the GW forums as of late. It seems Anet is losing more people then they are gaining.
Hell there is a post somewhere on here claiming NF got a lower rating then Factions and they are wondering how. I'll let you use your imagination on that one.
I told my guild tonight that I wanted to beat NF, because I plan on breaking from GW this week. I've given them well enough time to show me they care about ehir player base. They care about our opinions, our thoughts. And almost 2 years later anet has still given us the finger on pretty much everything we've asked for(Auction house, guild storage, Multiple pets for Rangers, Guild Emblems in our Guild Halls, and the list goes on. ) What so far have we gotten? The finger.
I for one am moving on to greener pastures. Hell my old EQ account is still active. Maybe it's time to find new friends there. Thats my 2 cents. And to the OP. I agree 100%, the game is boring. And when the boredom sets in, people will leave to new games, and when they don't come back...well...Anet will have no one to blame but themselves.

Do we have an unstuck function? |
Trade improvement would be very nice, as better party forming (which is even worse with all those heroes around).
Reconnect would be very nice, but I think that requires some technical adjustments to the core game system, which I think would take quite some time to develop.

I want to have your children 0.0 That's exactly what I've been trying to say, for this almost entire topic, and you just summarized it in one paragraph, and answered my question about games who had a little less dev-reading-in and its correlation w/ nerfing.
Even if the post I just quoted looks long, everybody should read it. Very insightful.
As for me, I'll say just this - we're done adapting, arenanet. Don't lose too many players, or NCSoft might spank you!

Some more information for the topic. What was the reason we were given for the farming nerf? The gold bots, the ebayers...correct? Well shortly after the nerf alot of them went out of business, or the price skyrocketed. 2 days after the nerf 1mill plat was going for over $100 American, when before it was around $50. I just checked ebay and guess what. 593 returns on the words guild wars gold. Around the same number of sellers as before the nerf, and the gold is selling for about $10 more then it was pre-nerf. So whatever it was that anet was "shooting" for they missed, and big time. Unless it happened to be "Decreased sales" or "Unhappy player base". Then they hit the nail dead on.

Terribly bored of Guild Wars at it's current state.
I know thousands of you think heroes are a stroke of genius, but for me, they've made this game so much duller. I miss PUGS, even the bad ones, I'm sick of hopping from mission-to-mission Henching everything. No-one talks anymore, No-one groups anymore. PvE is practically single player nowadays.

I agree OP.
Bit off-topic but is City of Heroes/Villains better choise than WoW?

I don't have a lot more to add than has already been so eloquently said by so many others. I'm not bored quite yet.
For me endgame in GW has always been about balance, play PvP, deal with immature attitudes and other less pleasing things and then go off and solo farm to reduce frustration and feel like I've accomplished something. Without both parts I can see myself playing less and less PvP because I have nothing in game to reduce the stress of PvP.
Why is any disagreement of somethign A-net has done considered whining, why does everyone equate constructive criticism with whining, they are two completely different things you know.

Strange how i read other people in other posts cheer about how Anet listens to it's customers then. I have just one complaint about NF: TOO MUCH content to ever get it completely done. Worth every penny i say, but you need to find the time.
Advice to the acid spitters: If this game get's tedious, find something totally new (like Guitar hero for example) and stop telling the fans how bad the game they love really is.
