I'd like it if a Dev could just confirm if this is permanent, as I dont want to rush through the game just in case it's gonna leave after this weekend. I think it's permanent, but just to make sure would be nice!

Also, there is something else of note: In-game (not on the website), the announcement states that the update will occur late in the evening. That'll likely be 8:00PST/5:00EST, if ArenaNet followws the pattern of previous major updates.
ArenaNet is doing that so that the pre-teen kids get home from high-school in time for the update.

Armour upgrade probably is for hero armour. Anet has said that heroes have 3 armour skins, and right now we just have default and 1 extra (elite sunspear or ancient). So the armour upgrade will be like primeval armour for heroes.
Jin's upgrade will probably be that zebra fur outfit she's wearing in the manual.

It would be a big mistake on ANets part to have it require favor. They advertise that it will open this weekend, people line up and BAM, no favor...
On another note, I predict that there will be plenty of jewels (Diamonds, Rubies, Sapphires, etc), well maybe not plenty but enough to push the prices down a bit. We don't need 4 ecto type material.

I'm actually not 100% sure this is the true "elite mission" for Nightfall that will include Razah that Gaile had told us about. If you notice, it refers to it as a "new elite area", and it sounds a lot more like the UW and FoW than it does an elite mission. Either way, it's awesome that we're getting new content already, but please don't automatically assume that "new elite area" = "elite mission with Razah in it" and then come back here flaming to high heaven if it ends up being two seperate updates. Gaile _did_ say it would be around Christmas when the Elite Mission+Razah update happened, so if this is it then it's early.
Either way, like I said, it's great that they made new content for us already, just please don't automatically assume something only to be horribly let down if everyone's favorite profession-shifting hero isn't part of this new area.

Anyways, I'm rank 8 - you guys can stop complaining about rank discrimination that doesn't exist yet. If I spent 50 hours AFK for my title to get into groups, I deserve to be better off thanks to my effort. Plus, it helps keep newbs from ruining PUGs (which I don't do) .....

Anyway, I JUST bought the Shards for FoW armor, and have most of the money needed for Ectos and am waiting for more pleasureable ecto prices to buy them.
So if this update has "Cool Leetzor Weapons" and such for people to dump their ectos into buying - then all's better for me to come in and pick them up while they are low (anyone remember 3kea ectos at Factions release?)

I'm not grouping with anyone that has a R7 or R8. I'd prefer to group with people who are more likely to have obtained their LB Rank naturally, which indicated that they are actually dedicated.

Hmm...does anyone know if they are going to do that huge skill balance with the Domain of Anguish update as well? I doubt it though, as the Wintersday Ladder Season doesn't end till the 16th, not counting the matched battles of the highest ranked guilds.
I really hope that the armor upgrade means that we can inscribe our old armors. I got 15k Luxon for my Warrior but I chose +10 armor while in stance instead of +hp ><". So mad at myself.

First of all, don't start going "yes, it's going to be like this, because someone else who doesn't work for ANet said so." They are speculating, you are quoting them as if its authentic, that breeds rumors.
The Update is not going to be like SF in anything other than the fact that it will have an explorable area. Gaile already said they will not do any SF-sized updates. So yeah, you will get a small explorable area, some new quests and a mission area.
The only requirement, according to the flyer, is that you beat the game. Just because it is from a statue, do not automatically think it will require the same as the other statues. Here's a bit of flavor text for that...
Ok, with the Current FoW/UW area you get the "privallage" to access those realsm because you won favor (or more likely a small, elite guild did) in the Hall of Heros. The Gods went "This guy impresses us, please, come to our realm for a bit."
Now, if that spoiler I read was correct (again, this is an assumption, I haven't beaten the game, so take with a grain of salt) Kormir is some sort of Diety? Or something like that? *shrugs* Either way, its a Statue of Kormir, perhaps the only thing you need to "win Her favor" is to beat the game (as the flyer stated.)

Also, novel has a definition meaning "new" as in "that was a novel idea." It could just mean new 'whatever.'
The game-interface notice about it says Novel Armor, so not even referencing weapons for that. What it does say is new Weapons aquisitiion method.

And I wouldn't worry about having problems getting into a group when it comes out.
No one will know what team/toon builds work the best, as no one has had any time to study it. Everyone will just group to go explore. Like when SF came out, or the IDS (I was actually beating monks off with sticks...) or any other "new and cool" thing.
There will be more people wanting in, with little patience. They will get a team, somewhat balanced probably, and just go. That's not speculation, that's just observation.

For those of you who haven't read the latest Gaile log yet, she confirmed that Razah will be in the update. Her lips are sealed on just about everything else, though.
