2. "VERY VERY VERY few"? Provide proof for your numbers.
3. No one is forcing you

2 Can you read? I assume not as if you had read this thread you would of seen as much proof as you need.
3 I never said I would buy them or even want them. But some people will and do. So why should a very small group of people have the ability to rip others off.

Another possibility is a 600 monk with 2 support monks overlapping spirit bond to tank, and a balanced team to support?

The only reason for not bring P though, was because of Vocal Minority in those Margonite areas. In Stygian, we did bring a P actually, and got pretty far.
....only to face a wipe from a very badly positioning.
But we're getting the hang of it, it seems perfectly doable

I think an active Prot Spirit is necessary.

Razah is not an special hero.
Is not worth 4 of those gems.
You can unlok it in PvP just by 6000 faction.
Acquistion of a ritualist hero shoud have been in Factions like the assain, another mesmer should have been in Prophecies, next chapter shoud have one of each of it sprofessions and Razah should have been really a Varaible Hero.
At the end those gems would be sold by 100k+some ectos and there will be farming parties in the area provinding gems to others, thus getting insanelly amounts of cash, and that will get harder/nerfed due to that.

I said in an earlier post that it looks doable, as are all other quests & missions in game.
What I'm finding amusing is Anets take on farming/selling of late. And now they introduce a 4 part quest to just be able to do a quest to get a hero that requires 1 of each new gem. I won't even discuss the new weapon skins.
Since I haven't read or heard about any new greens coming out of this yet, I'd be guessing to say there will be any. I can imagine the asking price for so & so's X weapon = 100k + 100+ ecto.
To not be your average player, have countless hours to play, ignore the "you've been playing for X# of hours: please take a break" message - sleeping, eating and actually using a toilet instead of an empty bottle, not running on whatever your choice of stimulant is,- I believe what this message is intended for. This is the reward for putting up with sub-standard gameplay for the last little while - meant for the avg player.
I suppose we will see how empty the "Gate of Anguish" becomes in a couple of weeks - read Urgoz and the Deep. The problem with this one is that it probably matters to more ppl than the factions elites, if so Anet will lose more than it gains.
Here is to hoping that "Every" class in GWs is able to get through this.
Time will tell.
Anyway - working on getting necro , tank, ele, & Rt through NF. Ranger already through, and have tried the Domain - need good group.

I love how noocoo, who we can probably safely acknowledge is one of the first few groups to finish this area used an assassin, a ritualist, a mesmer, and a monk hero, all in the same party. Honestly, that negates roughly 50% of the complaints in this thread, it's truly poetic.

Maybe something like this can duo DoA?
55 R/E, 16 (12+3+1) Wilderniss Survival, 12 Earth Magic
Obsidian Flesh [Elite], Quickening Zephyr, Serpent's Quickness (maybe add some random earth spells for extra damage)
Smiting Mo/X, 14 (11+3) Smiting Prayers, 14 (10+3+1) Protection Prayers, 13 Divine Favor (10+3)
Shield of Absorption, Protective Spirit, Blessed Aura (add smiting skills of your preference, and maybe Spirit Bond if you want to)
No, I haven't tried, no, I have no idea if this will work. You can't be targeted by spells and you take 0 damage at all times though, can't really go wrong, right?

What i have seen in this thread is a lot of people arguieing about it, and also a lot of people who have offered hints on how to complete it. I don't take that as 99% of Guildwars (like someone stated) or very very very few. It's actually a lot if you count it up to the whole GW population (you know, it'S just a minority posting here or in other boards).
Fact is, you don't have the numbers and i do neither. Only A-Net has and if it's really just 99%, they will change it.

9 in Wilderness Survival is enough to keep Obsidian Flesh active for as long as you wish, i posted it somewhere earlier and others made builds out of it. You don't need QZ in that (unless it's for something i overlooked ^^).
A problem though i could see is, the enemies use interrupts and the warriors even knockdowns. Probably a hard time to get your OF through.

And I haven't really looked at the skills, so I guess you're right. Knockdowns can be fully countered with Ward of Stability (which can be maintained with Serpent's Quickness), but interupts would indeed own you.
It'd be a shame though, Sliver Armor + AoE smite would own.
The Great Al
I think this is Anet's answer to a dead economy...if there are new greens, for a long time they will probably go for 100k + ectos...a bunch of gems will also be more expensive than ecto probably....up until yesterday there was nothing in this game save for crystallines and a few other tank weapons that were even worth a lot...so I can't complain about new expensive weapons.
XsX
I've tried it with ma warrior and we couldn't get past the 1st group. The Kis(monk) and everything else in that group are very strong and smart. But when i went echo nuke, I acutally could do damage good damage. That is before they start focusing on ma squishy ele, i think a couple nukers could do well in here as well.

What confuses me about people saying this area is "too hard" is that not a single person before Friday said "I hope the new mission isn't too hard". In fact everyone was saying "I hope the new mission isn't too easy". I still think people are over-estimating the difficulty of DoA until people learn what builds and tricks it takes to beat them. |
persistance and trying different builds. What will take time is groups forming.I spent a 1 1/2 with a group that wanted perfect team.Shoot it cost nothing to try.It would give you a chance to see where you needed to adjust your builds.
The hard part for me is joining pugs...been awhile..) People spend more time argueing than trying to do mission. To many "Leets" in the group.Main reason I did game with nothing but hero/hench.Bottom line if people work together and dont leeroy on you should be doable.Just have to adjust.

I PuG'd this place (even though I said I wouldn't, I know :P), and it didn't seem that bad. Advance slowly and carefully and there's basically no chance of party wiping. The only person on our team that accumulated significant DP was the warrior, and a few of the eles dropped once in a while from air spikes, but it is certainly a far cry from the "OMG IMPOSSIBLE!!!!11shift-1" a lot of you guys are proclaiming.
In terms of a build, I highly doubt that any kind of gimmick is going to be necessary. You essentially need four components to succeed:
- A solid tank. Enchantment-based tanks are risky due to stripping, unless one of those enchantments is something like Spellbreaker or Shadowform.
- Nuke. Massive amounts of AoE damage. You are basically racing the enemy - kill them before they kill your tank.
- Shutdown. Most enemy groups have monks to heal their allies and mesmers to disrupt your damage. Both need to be disabled somehow. The tried-and-true Meteor Shower works pretty well here.
- Efficient monking. Prot is superior to heal when you consider the massive amounts of damage taken. Zealous Benediction is amazing here. As a side note, you'll encounter enough spike damage to practice infusing, if you want to bring it.
Obviously, some builds will be more efficient than others, but any build that incorporates all 4 elements should be successful, regardless of the actual classes being used.
EDIT: math?

Random thought: Does this mean that the spirit of a drunken pirate has outsurvived an entire continent of players?
It may be tough out there guys, but just wait until you can say you were the first to get an Armbrace or one of those weapons.

The City is the first to be beaten, There have been successful farming groups for it since Last night before I logged off. It wasn't even midnight yet when I was seeing more and more "[Class] LFG CityFarm, must use Wall Trick!"
Margonite Gemstones are also the most common, People were trying their hardest to even sell them for 40-50k. So I have to assume this 100k+ecto whinning is the other gemstones, unless the price on Margonite ones have went up since last night (which would be counter to what should happen as more and more Margonite are farmed)

I was at full HP this morning (475ish) and was hit with lightning hammer for 496 dmg! No monk will ever infuse that.
1 hit = kill in DOA
Proting down damage is the way to go. Otherwise... you will die on the first mob.
BTW: proof that proting (ie shelter and PS) can work:

I took infuse + WoH the first few times, and was amazed that they could spike kill a teammate faster than I could infuse. Infuse health is one of my favorite monk skills, but it doesn't seem to be of much value her. I think that 2 prot monks, one with ZB and maybe one running Barrier, might work. Not sure about enchant stripping here though, so Barrier might be useless as well.
Maybe a ZB, a SB, and a WoH monk? Vengence is also going to be handy here I'd say.

Funnt things I've seen our guild do, but can't get folks to try:
Putrid Pet build
6 N/R -- 2 monks
1) Icy Veins / Gaze spikes while sending in the pets with Death Nova on them.
2) When one dies, Putrid Explode for a chain reaction of putrid explosions
It's really funny. I can't wait to try this in DoA with my guildies when they finish the game.
The other things we've done that works good and is hilarious is:
5 R/N, 1 Bip N, 2 monks
1) Trapping is best followed with Flesh Golem. All the rangers take it. The traps melt down four or five right off the bat, then you have 4 or 5 fleshy running around soaking up aggro.
I actually got a group to try this one today. We did ok.
Fun stuff.

Cry of frustration for the win. What Rera said is very true. Tank, nuke (barrage, ss, fire, etc), prot, and shutdown is all you need.

Hm,i havent actually played much but i would try something like this:
Try maybe with bonder, life barrier and active prot/or healer and use one ranger spirit spammer oath shot with simbiosys, fertile season etc. That should stop demons to do so much dmg. And off course lot of AOE ,and maybe dervish or 2 (they would benefit of simbios also).
Other build that I think could work is max Hex spam build. For example Take 1 SS,1 Foc necro,1 spoil Victor,1 or 2 degen mesmers with conjure and images (maybe all that with echo) and just keep spamming hexes on all of them. One or two players should be anti melee only.
I dont know would this work becase i havent actually played it,but I would try it and maybe tweak build if it doesnt work .

Well as entertaining as this thread is I feel certain people should stop deliberately trying to antagonise others with this whole "It's not too hard, you're all wimps, ANet please don't nerf it" attitude. It's not pleasant to read and it just annoys people...I'm kind of expecting "ANet please make it harder" comments to start soon, before most people have even managed to kill one Uber-Margonite.
So I tried this last night and...didn't go well. The only thing about the whole thing that REALLY annoys me is that you seem to have to do it to get Razah. All I want is my Ritualist hero. I don't care about elite areas...it's just an excuse for people to get nasty, which is something I experienced in Urgoz Warren and The Deep on the only occaisions I ventured out that way. Just seems like a new way for wammos to become "teh l33tz0rz" and parade around with some uber expensive weapon which doesn't even have a nice skin. All I will say is, please change it so I can get Razah easily, then I'll be on my way. It just seems a bit .. "incomplete" .. otherwise.
The best I managed last night was in the City of T'... we managed to get down 3½ groups before one group got permanent-aggrolock so we couldn't get away. After that I thought "ok, so this has just wasted 5 hours of my weekend". Today I managed to get my Paragon half way through Factions, I made 20k faction, and my Ritualist has continued on her way through Vabbi. My reckoning is that I'd still be trying to echo Meteor Shower on the first group of Margonites now if I'd stuck with it...so...what's the point?
Out of interest are they weak to any element in particular? I went fire because people needed a "safety blanket" and that "safety blanket" was that a party member had meteor shower. I wondered about water...like taking Deep Freeze and Feast of Corruption. It was just disheartening when I was spamming Searing flames and instead of "112" damage floating off them I was seeing "60".

In the late afternoon ( European Time ) , I tried clearing out the Stygian Veil a couple of times with a PUG.
After several failures but a lot of lessons learned, we managed - our 8th run or so - to survive quite long. We lasted around 4 hours, though we only we're able to finish 1 quest for a lousy 10k XP.
The thing that finally wiped us out, was just a stupid mistake, so I'm quite sure we could have finished the area, time permitting.
We came across around 4 chests, and 2 Stygian Gemstones dropped.
The team ? 7 Trappers and 1 Monk. No special setup, except everyone had to bring LB Gaze.
A Ranger dropped early one cos of err7. Of the 6 remaining, only 1 wasn't really experience in trapping.
Conclusion : all in all a very doable area, but reserve plenty of time, especially when trapping it all the way. I'm sure the other area's are like that as well. Give it enough time and think true, and eventually you'll crack it.
