What i think is sad, is that there are so many people posting here that don't take the time to think about what they say. ArenaNet didn't HAVE to give us this area, they didn't HAVE to give us Tombs, the Deep, Urgoz, or any of the others. If you think that the game would be better off without this area... then don't play in this area. However, if you decide to make a constructive comment, PLEASE DO SO IN A CIVILIZED MANOR.
Remember people, patience is a virtue, and if we take the time to compile a list of what we can agree needs to be changed, ArenaNet will be more likely to make those changes then if we just keep shouting, "You are teh N00bz ANet. Change this now or i stop playing!" Because to be brutally honest with you, as you all know, ArenaNet doesn't charge for a monthly fee, so you quitting the game has no effect on their choice to continue the game.
However, if we keep telling them that we hate everything that they release, like a majority of you have, then they will be less inclined to release anything new.
Sorry for the over-elaborate post, but i had to get that out there.

First it was that the game is too hard. And then the game is too ugly. And since when are evil scary places supposed to look pretty?

Here are my quick thoughts...
1) Tried with guildies last night, did not have an optimal build cause not everyone got all their chars through yet. We stunk. Hated the place.
2) Tried with pugs this morning, controlling the team build, asking for this and that, and it worked like a charm. We did not even wipe once our first time into Torcqua City. Just basic balanced stuff, warrior tank, Ele nukers, monks and bonding. Just addressed the major problem of the spike damage and we were good. Faced a couple of near wipes. Had 60% DP half-way through the first quest. But the longer we were there, the better we became. Pulling and fighting groups at the edge of their aggro was really the name of the game.
3) As far as Razah, right now it looks like Mission Impossible to acquire him, but in a few weeks, you can simply buy the 4 Gems to access the Elite mission area. Already Margonite Gems are "abundant" and people trying to buy Coffers are only looking for the other 3 types.
Overall, it's a nasty surprise, but after sleeping on it and taking a tightly woven build, it seems fairly doable.

I agree with this 100%. IMO the people saying 'well Anet didn't have to do this so just be thankful' have a very skewed point of view. They said there would be an elite mission, when I (and most I assume) purchased NF we were under the impression there was an elite mission as they had said there would be. Rather than defending ANet saying 'well just be thankful you got it' maybe the correct question is 'why wasn't this in there since the release?' They already backed out of their 'variable profession' razah. :/
I for one won't be bowing down and thanking ANet for finally delivering something that should have been in the game at release.

They could very well drop GW altogether and start working with Bethesda on the next Elder Scrolls game. They could very easily start working with some other company on something not even closely related to GW. So GW is, in a way, a gift that ANet has offered to sell to us.

not like the evil had to lurk in a dark&red void.
anyway, nightfall sells aren't on top already, if the word spread that the elite missions are uglier and less interesting than the faction ones, it sure won't helps.

you are not by any chance an anet employee?
where is the camera, come on out, you got me! is this going to be on tv?
fyi:
right now, GW is a cash cow, you have the engine, you have a map editor, you have the classes and monsters, you have a playerbase...
all you have to do, is shell out an expansion every 6 months. anet would be insane to sh*tcan that!
and look at the new place: they just recycled the RoT mapsdesign and textures.

Oh, just so you know guys... There is a ghost that comes out after you defeat Lord Jadoth, that host offers you a gift in exchange for 25 of EACH type of Gem. i.e. The exepctation is that you can farm 100 of these gems. Not freak out and fail on your way to ONE.
Also, another cool thing is that when you beat him there is a chest that drops one Gem of the type of the monsters you fought (i.e. Margonite Gem from Lord Jadoth, Stygian Gem from the Maw guy). This is cool, it's not like Shards and Ectos where it's completely random. At least you're guaranteed one Gem per run.

Anet makes money from us, if majority of us voice a problem, they will fix it (note the word majority). The late release of the elite mission, is most likely due to the fact, it wasn't finished or there were major problems (this case i wouldn't want them to release it). Whatever the case, I'm happy with Anet, they are doing a good job (they could always do a GREAT job by increasing the storage space...but thats another story).

One or both of the max titles may simply be enabled in a standard update in the near future, or the max may be offered a bit later, if it is tied to this new concept. As you know, we're always looking at ways to add to the game, and let's just say that this week's update will not be the last one that we see -- not by a longshot! |

Please don't post unless you post something useful. This is a fanforum, people are supposed to post about what they think of the game, and guess what? Loads of people think of DoA that it's a letdown and too hard, sure you might think it's whining, but it's allowed since this is forum.
I don't care if it's called 'elite mission' or not. There should NOT be ANY area thats impossible to do with a certain profession. If I make my character I expect it can be played with in any area. Here I'm not talking about solo-ing, but in a group.
In DoA, every character, every skill counts. Lots of classes/people just won't get to play here. Why? Cause they're not elite? No, it's cause the place is just undo-able except for certain professions with certain builds.
ANY area, how elite it might be, should be able to be done with different builds/professions, not cookie-cutter builds.

This game is not made for the 1% top notch players that says 'Hey finally, a challenge'.
But I though this game do not encourage farming. They ner f it.
With an area only less than 1% of the players can survive, anyone else who wants Razah would have to bow and pay tribute to them. And most of them have LBr8 thanks to using exploits.
I'm rank 5 and I won't care about having it reseted to 0, so we all start from scratch, without exploits.
I don't mind being there super hard areas were I could never get in my life.
No one wanted to go to Titan areas or Furnace to make quests, so I had to wait until Heroes appeared to make them.
I have been in Urgoz warren, and found it fun, yet not really difficult if the leader know what is she doing.
But this... most of the time I can only kill 3-4 enemies, and then all my party members are dead, and the enmies come for me... two hits... dead.
I have had a lot of laugh with silly wipe outs in many missions, quests, and elite areas... but this is not fun, in all the previous areas, a you could survive with a 10 seconds lag. Other could fill the gap until you recover control.
Bt here, 2 seconds of lag and you are dead. And I have a 24/7 internet connecion that only fails when my mother forgets we can't have more than 5 electric devices with more than 800 watts connected.
Those places do not leave a range to have a leave, or an Err:007, one fails and it's like taking out one of the gears of a clock.
I have been monitorin this thread.
Around 75%of the post claim
- This is not fun.
- I can't get razah.
- I got wiped out.
- I'll wait until someone makes the build.
- Not all classes will work here.
- Only few builds will work here.
- They are just overpowered creatures.
Around 20% of them say:
- Finally a challenge.
- I'm getting further into the Domain.
And the rest are mostly pointless.
There is always a solution to make everyone happy.
Instead of saying "I like it, go to hell" or "I don't like it, change it already"
Why not to find a solution?
I don't want those that claims for a challege to whine instead of those who wants Razah, they have paid 200€ for the like everyone else did, but we must remember that they are less than 1% of the players, there are a lot of solutions, like...
- Tune it down after next elite area is out, so at least 50% can do something there once the k-stylers are done with the place.
- Moving Razah somewhere else.
- Giving 4 non-tradeable gems you can use only to get Razah the first time you get there...

Well, I think that there are to many whiners. This game's community is near runescape... and that's sad. Anywho, I think Anet should move Razah (I really could care less about him) to an easy spot where a bunch of people can go and run people to him. Make it a long cave with nothing in it but Razah... and a tree. That will please some people. (Then the tree kills you and laughs until you log out and log back in).
Keep DoA intact though, I beg you. I'm having fun trying to figure out how to do this with my guild... and I ahve to disagree with certain classes only, because I am running in balanced builds half the time and getting farther than builds with all one class.
Also, I think EVERY single drop should be max gold at minimum, at least give us something worth the cahllenge, not that I care though. But still, getting a non-max isn't fun after going through all this work.
All in all, thanks Anet. I like this place, finnaly a challenge like I remember from my old MMO days.

You take a game like WoW / City of Heroes / Ultima Online etc. They charge a monthly fee. Usually between $10 - $15 per month. Those companies have to provide Boards for players to voice their concerns as well as GM's in game to assist customers and updates. This all takes away from their revenue to a small small degree.
Guildwars on the other hand comes out with an expansion every 6 months or there about. For now let's say every 6 months, at $50.00 per 6 Months equals roughly $8.33 per month. Now look at what they don't have to deal with. They dont' have a board where players can complain they redirect people to player run boards - very smart. They don't have GM's that players get in a que to have questions answered - very smart. Also add on the fact that some people have the attitude after the first month: No real expectations, since they aren't paying a monthly fee and you find Anet is clearly ahead of everyone else.
So even though we aren't paying a monthly fee - we are doing the next best thing from a business sense.
Now is Anet doing a good job -- I would say thumbs UP. This elite mission as people pointed out was advertised so it had to come out. It does not take away from the rest of Nightfall being one of the best expansions/stand alone game.
Take Care..

There are not too many whiners . The new area really IS way too over powered
I mean, when uve got max Armor, +20 Armor vs Ele Insignias on every piece, and lb 5, yet u still get owned in 2 hits. That seems a bit too much. If ne1 has a build for getting thru this all plz let me know. Iv'e heard a trapper tem with bonders and a warder made it thru, but thats rumor. This area really is over powered

My biggest complaint about GW is that it's designed to give mediocre players a nice big self-esteem boost by pitting them against evil-looking monsters that drop after a few skills.
It'd be nice if they keep this how it is, and separate the wheat from the chaff.

Ok, for one I LOVE this area, but serisoly some people here are just play stupid. Im a shadow form dervish, I saw some guy spamming LF hardcore gamers to complete mallyx, so I said to myself why not?
We all get on his Vent server and of course me and another person are the only ones who have mics. So for the last spot on the team its between me and some dervish whos build looked like it was throw togethere in a second.
Of course the leader chooses the dervish witht he crap build and no mic. Go Firgure.

Its pathetic how people have decided to take a 'informed' stand against one area only days after its been introduced.
From a devoted PvE Guilds perspective, this place is a gold mine. The challenge of perfecting your team build is immense, and the reward will be pretty much exclusive to you cos every joe schmoe either hasnt got the patience or time for it.
IMO, there probably wont be a set build to defeat this. It'll probably be up to player skill, and thats something that most players are never gonna have if the only way they can get their unique items is from trying to nerf all the hard bits.
Wish my guild was more active

Really, being a warrior, it seems that I can't do this. Even when I get my ranger or Dervish to the elite mission, I still can't do it. Melee users are kept out this time, and Warriors can't tank either - I tried, with 140 armor, I got killed with 2 hits.
Ohhh wait, could it be that my build is a bit off? Yeah, that must be it, I forgot that my build has got to be perfect, just like the other million players trying to do DoA. Ohh, and we all gotta buy the same armor and runes.
Better re-name 'Guild Wars' to 'Clone Wars' - cookie cutter ftw!!1 -_-

As good as Guild Wars is, the AI will never be as good as real people and this is why they added Domain of Anguish. If you can run 4 man builds for The Deep and 2 man UW then Anet obviously needs to step it up.
I have beaten Nightfall 4 times with one friend and heroes. No other humans needed for anything. Mostly cookie cutter builds on all party members with very few exceptions. Finally Anet provides an area that is very challenging and forces us to find new builds to beat it and people are already screaming for a nerf.
I think there should be an easier way to get Razah. I think the party size should be increased to 10 or 12 but what fun is it if anet just gives us another end game area that is so easy it can be easily done with less than 5 people?
MithranArkanere
In other grinder RPGs, the creater get buffed up, and then you can buff up too.
Here you can't.
Instead of giving normal creatures the powers of a boss, why not gving the alternate/partially random builds?
That would be a challenge, and fun, and not a frustating time consuming job.

Team Builds
This is the key.
They are just stupid AI monsters. So stupid that they need a boost of level and numbers to compete with you.
You are a human being. You are superior.
Use your mind. Dissect their skills. Test. Test. Test.
If you get frustrated. Take a break. Its only a game.
---------------
On the subject of cookie cutter builds:
Cookie cutter builds work because someone had a great idea, and it was refined and refined and refined until it worked so well that anyone could use it.
The 55 build is the perfect example.
How many deaths? how many platinum did it take for the build to be designed and perfected?
The problem.
Is when the community settles for cookie cutter builds as the ONLY answer to beating a problem, thus ending the excitement of discovering new builds.
