Are you planning on buying the next chapter of Guild Wars after Night Fall?
I am not. This is why.
1. The chapters are creating diffusion of the player community. The loss of players is Ubiquitous in most areas of the game where solo play is undesirable. It is hurting the game more then anything else.
2. I have lost faith in game play being fun. Solo play is becoming unfeasible with the broken AI. I tend to solo because I have a lack of people to play with. Solo play has been ruined with the end game of Night Fall. Game play should never be so frustrating that I have to stop playing before I become angry.
3. I have lost faith in Guild Wars getting any better. The trends to counter mandate any creative tactics players develop to move efficiently throughout the game has been unyielding for any evidence of game play allowing for the freedom that drew me to guild wars to begin with. While alone this issue does not warrant a great deal of distress. When coupled with the others it resounds with impalpable value.
4. Solo play is diminished while team play is scarce. Not even the novel Heroes can grasp the tactics considered necessary associated with some vital builds. I observed Dunkoro kill himself with Offering of Blood. Zhed shadow hoof was noted killing himself with Ether Prodigy. They are not capable of timing, or using skills in tactful sequence.
5. The impression that I am being embittered is distressing. With the majority of games there is the tendency for the game to cheat in order to create the illusion of a challenge. With the continued efforts to diminish viable tactics forcing players to conform to stipulated tactics in order to play while creating overwhelming situations that limit the enjoyment of the game. I feel that the value of the game is greatly reduced of any actual viable intrigue.
True this sounds like more complaining.
The goal of this post is not to complain. It is to see if there is anyone else with points for, & counter points as to staying the course within Guild Wars. I want the desires of the players to speak true. If I do not belong in this community because it differs in desire with my ideal enjoyment of the sequential development of Guild Wars I want to know in order to assist me in making the decision of weather or not I should stop playing Guild Wars.

YESSSS I will be buying the Next Chapter - Can't Wait.. You Go Anet/NcSoft
Reality: 95% Of all MMO's are identical in theme of play. Hack/Slash gain XP buy/craft armor or weapons. As standard with those MMO's there are updates/patches that make people unhappy or thrilled - GW is no exception.
I've played a few MMO's and I can't think of any that I rather paly than GW. It has been one of the most balanced MMO's that I have ever played. The storyline is good and this is one of the better SOLO MMO's if you desire it. I play SOLO 80% of the time and I never have a problem except with DOA..
I realize people will complain it's almost human nature. I guess without chaos you can't have order.
Take Care..

No, I am not going to buy the next chapter.
When Nightfall was coming out, I wasnt that exited about it... but I still liked the game, and was planning to get the CE for it and buy it the day it came out (or the day after)
But when it did, I didnt have the money for it. But now, I am pretty glad that I didnt buy it when it released.
I've heard from a lot of friends and other sources that the game just really isnt worth it. I've heard about lots of bugs and problems with gameplay, and it seems replayability is getting worse and worse... The devs also seem more concentrated on putting the bandaids on small cuts, but paying little to no attention to the large flesh wounds in the game.. if you know what im trying to say... The game... just isn't fun for me anymore. I hav'nt logged in since the Halloween event, and will probably only log in when the Wintersday Event comes around.
So no, I am not going to buy Nightfall, or the next chapter. Sorry if I sound a little.. whinyish.. but it's just my opinion.

Unless Anet makes some changes in Nightfall, I won't be buying the next chapter.
It's too bad that Anet has chosen to depart from the formula that initally made the PvE side of the game such a success. Low lag, doable missions or quests, and lack of "grinding" was what attracted many to Prophecies. As one progressed through the game and leveled their character, each area presented the appropriate challenge for the average player. As would be expected, some players found ways to "exploit" the game while others tried to "shortcut" it. In both instances there came cries of the game being "too easy" on the one hand and "too hard" on the other.
Unfortunately, both Factions and Nightfall (which in themselves had great potential to carry on the original forumla) fell victim to Anet's attempt to "correct" perceived problems. Factions introduced fast leveling, a push towards PvP (with faction points and alliances), and the attempts to thwart exploits. As a result it also introduced more lag, a much greater degree of difficulty for the average player, grinding, and a total failure to stop exploits. It also did little to enhance the PvP portion of the game. Nightfall, it appears, has been given over to those that are the "hardcore" GW players (many of whom are the very exploiters that Anet tries so hard to thwart). It has tremendously increased lag (for a great many if you monitor chat much), become far too difficult for the average player, and introduced "grinding" as part of the game.
What Anet must realize is that fansite forums, especially this one, does not necessarily represent the vast number of average players. In fact, this fansite is actually responsible for promoting many of the "ills' that Anet seemingly wishes to correct. Many, if not most, exploits have their beginnings these very forums. It is not difficult to read about how "easy" it is to circumvent any part of the game, by the "regular" posters in these forums. In fact, there is a great deal of "bragging rights" obtained through announcing how one has found some way too gain an unfair avantage over other players through exploiting some aspect of the game. In many cases, these are the same players that complain about how the game is too easy!
Anet should make every attempt to return the game to it's original formula. Attempting to stop exploiters and cater to the "hardcore" GW players has only made the game far less enjoyable for most players. There are still those that are exploiting portions of the game, and the "hardcore" GW players are still not placated. Nightfall is an exercise in frustration for the average player. Rather than rely on fansite forums, have the GM's monitor chat and even engage in some dialog with players. I'm sure they would find that many long time GW players are sorely disappointed with the state of the game. Please, make the game"doable" for the average player, minimize the grinding, and make GW fun again.

Nightfall - I loved how the subtle improvements on the pve side of things, cleaver use of map zones, far better plot, hero system and the new armor / weapons system.
I love the fact with hero's I can solo so much more of the game than I could before much easier, especially in Tyria/Cantha.
I've like nightfall better then I did factions to be honest and factions was good enough for me to chance buying Nightfall.
Anet has me for another Collector's edition for Chapter 4.

I think I'll buy, but will watch closely what next chapter has to offer. I too was tired of GW's uninspiring gameplay, but after trying out Wow and Daoc and visit their fan sites, I realize other MMORPG have their problems. At least with GW I'm not bound to pay and play when I don't want to. Nerf bat in GW is also not as bad as in other games, because in other games you don't have the flexibility to change builds/classes, so nerfing means you'll either live with it, or have to start a new toon from level one. But at times I do wish GW's gameworld is more lively and has Daoc's Realm vs Realm like feature so it offers more replayability. In my opinions, GW is a game with a lot of untapped potentials and I'll give them another chance to fulfill some of those potentials.
Anet should create more gameplays that players with all skill levels can enjoy, and cater less to elite players. Right now, the skill-above-all philosophy of GW means that good players are having fun at the expense of beating bad players, who unfortunately make up majority of GW playerbase, and this needs to be adjusted if Anet still wants to retain casual players. Keep losing is no fun to anybody, and Anet needs to remember that.

The Elite Mission: Is the only Hardcore Part of Nightfall - Yes it's a part of the game I've given up on - just not worth it for me for a RT hero.

I'm not sure, waiting for some other games that were delayed to march...

Maybe, depends on the new classes and skills for existing classes. Not impressed with many of the new skills for the old professions.
Also disappointed with the PvE mission format. After Factions took a step forward with 2 team cooperative missions and 12 person elite missions, I felt that Nightfall took a step back by just implementing lame monster-specific skills and global effects.
Ultimately though, it's because Guild Wars just isn't as fun as it used to be. While it's still my choice for MMO fix, there are other games I would rather play than bring another one of my characters through Nightfall.

Im not sure wether i will or not.. have to wait and see what new stuff gets added where the story goes.
Replay value will be a big issue for me and at the moment i have got 2 characters through nightfall and am really struggling to continue playing (havent even made a nightfall character yet).
I had high hopes for the new elite area but it's not what i was hoping for and a bit of a let down.. wether its hard or not it's just so uninteresting and bland, i admire those who can keep at it for 5 hours to complete 1 quest, but personally i couldnt bare to be in there for that long.
I loved playing prophecies and after finishing factions i went back to playing prophecies until nightfall came out which was a big improvement over factions but after making a awesome game like prophecies anet were always going to be hard pushed to top it.
I may just be bored after playing for so long.. the good thing is there is no monthly fee to pay so i can just quit playing whenever i feel like it and come back a month or even a year later and pick up where i left off.

Im not sure, i imagine ill get the next one but after that i might stop
Reasons:
Pros: Gw is an amzing game that i love to pieces and is the only regular online game i play. There are no mmorpgs as good as guildwars.
gw has a good lore and great storylines and an ever increasing amount of humor.
gw seems to be getting betta as a whole with every chapter
gw has some super easy bits and some super hards bits that keep gameplay entertaining
Cons:
The some of the small things that have been wanted for ages just havnt been improved, updated or added, eg. a bigger storage
gw is full of lots of annoying people who have no concept the the words: team, imagination, loyality or being nice to each other (but im sure that can be said for most mmorpgs)
the new chapters are coming too fast, i cant keep up with them at the rate there going
the wammo-need i say more

I also dont buy the next chapter if there will be no changes...
here are my pros and contras:
GW has unbelievable good concept artist so my biggest pro are the landscapes and the atmosphere the game has in every chapter. I enjoy that.
Anet gives good support to its players and make me often think that they wanna make the game as good as they can for us. Thats fine but the way it goes is not mine..
The pvp and its changes and progression is no longer fun for me.
I dont like the metagame. I quit playing HA as it just went to be a place for necro spikers, rangerspike and so on. It was soo boring to see on every map the same thing. So I play GvG for a very long time and it was fun and I enjoy it... but now it goes the same way as HA. Since they added the Champion title and making the HA a 6vs6 map my fun goes away every day.Now I didnt play gvg since 6 weeks or so because its no fun at all.
In pve my point was to give my chars a nice and unique looking and a good equipment after I played the story line for one time. So..This is no longer fun because they nerf farming and i dont wont to scam people to get the gold I need. On the other hand there are just a few skins in nf that have a nice look and this items are very rare so I gave that point up and got nothing to do right now.
At the farming point Im really disappointed because I got the feeling that the bots (which they want to make useless) now got more profit then ever because they are still large quantities of bots and they seem to run as stupid as ever...I want to say..the anti-farming update works really good against the normal players but doesnt work against the programms.
So i will wait and see and maybe they come up with changes that will bring my fun back otherwise i dont buy the next chapter.

It is hurting the game more then anything else. 2. I have lost faith in game play being fun. Solo play is becoming unfeasible with the broken AI. I will be getting the CE of Chapter 4. But me playing Chapter 5 is already in jeopardy. Spore is slated to be realease 2nd half of '07 and that game MIGHT break me of my GW addiction.

I will buy it, unless somehow I loose interest in it. Then I'll stop and I promise not to come whine about it on a forum.

Most of your post tells me you're angry because you can't solo in a multiplayer game.
I beat the entire Nightfall campaign, with a Dervish, without ever playing with human players.
Yes, I even beat the last two missions. I also got 11/20 missions done with Master status on the first run, including "timed" bonuses(such as the last mission).
It's not hard to play this game solo, you just have to think outside the box.

It's not hard to play this game solo, you just have to think outside the box.

Dunkoro with OOB? Just give your monk heroes Power Drain and/or Leech Signet. :P
So far I haven't hit a single mission that can't be done with heroes/henchmen, in fact there have been a good number I've been wiping several times in a row with real players, only to get master's on the first try with my heroes. I'm at ROT right now, my brother said he beat the entire thing save the last two missions with just henchmen. And for the last two... The second-last can be beat with Spoil Victor, the last just jackhammer Heal Party and Light of Deliverance.
The only really problematic AI I've seen are:
- Tahlkora inspiring Faintheartedness and then using it.
- Olias using arcane echo on enfeeble and p-bond.
- Monk heroes that spam Blessed Light as if I put it on their bar as a heal.
So am I buying chapter 4? That depends if it sucks or not. I'm not making buying decisions on something that's not out, so why should you? If anything, my real concerns over GW's future are that its playerbase may dwindle from lack of new players if the barrier to entry, which currently sits at $150, goes any higher.

I hate to say this, but no. While I have played GW more than any other game by far(and that's saying something), there is just too much to do with all of these chars. I mean to get through Nightfall and get your Lightbringer Rank, etc. just takes too long. If I wanted to bring my Ranger and Rit through Nightfall - or do something with the other chapters. Way too much to do - it's getting insane. Plus - there are not nearly as many people in one place as there used to be. Heroes have taken away A LOT of the player interaction as well. I'm happy with what I have.

I feel that the value of the game is greatly reduced of any actual viable intrigue.

Seems to me most of your gripes are with PuGs. I sympathise with that...I usually pick heroes every time. Last night I had some real good luck with a group I did the last 3 NF missions with, with Masters, I might add...sometimes my faith in PuGs gets restored with is nice.
But yea, Bring on Campaign 4...unless it's another Post Searing Ascalon.

Its so far away and so little is known about it yet. And so much can change in my personal preferences yet.
I just don't know, and find it too early to speculate.

As for the "farming" complaints....
What do you people want? Every MMO has some ridiculous unreachable goal so people don't complain when they hit the limit and actually do get everything. You don't NEED any of the top-end stuff any more, you can build everything from collector's weapons and mods. 100k is enough to max out your character stat-wise, and past that everything else just makes you look pretty. Complaining about farming for luxury crap is absurd.

I will be buying it. Arenanet has sucked me into the Guild Wars world and I want to see more of it. I like 95% of what they did with Nightfall. I liked the changes they added with Factions. I do go back and play in Tyria quite a bit as well. I enjoy running around in the new areas and trying out the new skills.
Sure GW has some issues, I don't know a game I've played that doesn't have issues that I think should be corrected, but never will. It all comes down to persoanl preference on things and unfortunately, playing an online game like this, you can't really mod your game to get ti to play the way you want, etc.
I may not be buying the Collector's Editions anytime soon, but I will plunk down another 45 bucks to get more areas to explore and play in with my characters.
Chapter 4. Count me in.

Why in the world would you need more than one chapter to start playing GW? I would think that someone just getting into a game like this would want to start with one chapter, then move on to another once they're done with the first and have gotten their monies worth. I can understand some people wanting to jump into PvP who wouldn't care to do PvE. For them ANet has released PvP editions at about $40 each with all skills of that chapter unlocked. In my opinion if you can't come up with a decent build out of the 591 skills that come with the NF PvP Edition then maybe you should spend some time in the PvE game before you jump into PvP anyway.

I just hope it will come out in August like some rumors seem to suggest.
In six months, you just can't get everything explored, mastered and captured with seven characters!
I guess my P/D will not leave elona...

I will follow the Guild Wars saga as far as it goes, because despite all its problems, it is still the most enjoyable game I have ever played, and I love being a part of this community.
That's not to say that I won't buy and play other games, but I can't see myself losing interest in Guild Wars.

I don't know about buying the next chapter, I'm thinking I will but I'm going to try warhammer online first.. my 2 cents.

I'm beginning to agree with the OP. It's becoming harder and harder to play as a casual player with each progressive chapter. While Nightfall is a heck of a lot more fun than Factions was, it really isn't happening. I've yet to be able to do any by the first two Titans quests in Prophecies because of the impossibility of finding groups to do them. (My guildies and I didn't finish Prophecies' missions until slightly after Factions came out.)
Everything's too expensive (the vast number of skills! It's impossible to get even all the non-elites without devoting my life to the game; getting decent armor has been made so much more difficult with the insignia system), they're hiding too much away behind 'elite' content, etc.
I'm also getting annoyed with the "chapter" format rather than any plain "expansions". They need to slow down a bit (NB: I'm glad to hear they're putting extra time into chapter 4 before it's released; it will not be April) on adding new continents.

I will definitely buy chapter 4, even if Anet pulls a factions II. I have 3 protector of Elona titles. One title was gotten entirely with heroes/henchies. I don't see how the games isn't soloable, unless you mean going into a mission as 1/8 and beating it. Then again that might be possible too. Gates of Madness was hard the first time. Shiro killed my team in about 1 minute. I did some research, reskilled a few heroes, Shiro dead in 1 minute after clearing the bonus. Abbadon's Gate, finished it in under 10mins with Olias as my MM. (yes, I forgot to switch him out before the mission)
My Dunkoro usually gets beaten to death, later I realized I set him to attack instead of passive/defense. If he's sacraficing himself to death, give him other energy management skills. Look into the inspiration line, there are a few e-management skills that you could give him that also interrupts(drain, leech). As smart as heroes are now, it's still programming. It will never think for a moment that "hmm, my health is under 50% and I'm surrounded by foes that hit really hard, maybe I shouldn't use a sac skill.
I'm not sure if the "cheat" that the OP commented on is the AFK LB farming or not, however I can tell you that finishing the game doesn't require the LB skills. It makes it easier, however you don't need them.

I don't know if I could go back to a game where levelling matters. Ugh.

When ANet finally gives us "word" on extra storage, I'll gladly give my "word" on the next installment. Go ahead and keep adding things to the game for us to get (inscriptions, insignias, holiday items, etc.), but don't add anywhere for us to put them. Thanks a LOT. I love all the new things that have been added to the game too. I fear we're all getting taken for a gigantic RIDE on the 'more storage' issue. That the devs at ANet are holding off on doing anything in hopes all the cries and complaints just stop one day. Every damn Gaile Gray chatlog is full of her comments not having 'word' on more storage. Well, get word! ANet listens to the players, right? People want to know when this sort of upgrade is coming, and people want it. We aren't asking for some random feature that changes nothing of the game's inherent flaws, so stop working on that. We want more room to hold the damn stuff that's already in it. ANet - if you even played the game with the mindset of a hardcore GW player you'd quickly realize that there isn't enough storage, and what little there is equals a gigantic PITA for switching items between characters we're forced to use as mules. Maybe I'll decide to keep playing this game when I actually have some place to store the fruits of my labor. No, I'm NOT willing to discard the fruits of my Factions labor or the fruits of my Nightfall labor just because there is new Chapter fruits to be had in the next installment. ANet can spare the extra space. I've paid them $150 so far for practically the same amount of storage as I got with my $50 purchase of Prophecies. You're not getting one more cent out of me until I get more storage out of you. I hope many other die-hard players also feel this way.
This game is built around changing builds and strategy, but there's simply not enough storage room to hold multiple armor sets. (Level 16 in various attributes, because GW's rune system prevents easily changing the extra levels placed on armor which = more space needed). If this game was an actual product of strategy, I'd have more room to keep all the gimmick mods and inscriptions, and build combinations I could think of. The strategy should be knowing when I have to use these mods/inscriptons, not whether or not I want to use my one remaining storage slot to hold a +20% vs Skeletons mod or something more general. Too bad that's the case right now though. I have to opt for the general solution, because for the allotted space it's the only way I can combat all possible things with my characters. While we're on the subject, why the hell did this game ship with Attribute Refund Points anyways? I cannot believe that among the ANet devs, and all their testers, with the multi-year beta test period, that enough stink couldn't be raised to have that idea dropped sooner than it was.
I'm starting to get a bit miffed at the things that ANet doesn't realize about their own game too, which makes me wonder just how much they even pay attention to the damn thing. How could they have NOT realized by now that the Titan at the end of Abaddon's Mouth mission in Prophecies doesn't attack at all? It just walks into the lava and stands still. The Lich summons the damn thing to attack your party, but it doesn't. You know what? The damn titan has stood still the entire time I've had Guild Wars (over 1.5 years now). Has anyone at ANet ever gotten that far, saw the pacifist Titan, and even considered running down the halls and telling their fellow devs to, you know, fix it? Or have none of you even bothered to get that far in the first place?
Sometimes, I think, wow. The lack of forward thinking from ANet is a bit ridiculous. How many times did we have double-faction AB weekends, and nobody at ANet even considered to increase the game capacity to handle the extra demand? Every time there were complaints, and only afterwards did we ever get a, "oh, we should've realized that". Yeah, you should have. Beforehand. You added a 'WTS' filter to global chat a some months ago, but 13 seconds later people were already coming up with combinations to get around it. Why haven't you done anything else to curtail the global spam? Add more combos to the filter, or issue tempbans to the people who are willingly circumventing your desire to have them use the trade channel?
If you want a recent example of the lack of forward thinking, here's a great one. I bet nobody at ANet even knows about the Stygian Veil chestrun. Hint: we can get 1-2 free chests w/o drawing one bit of aggro. Is this the kind of forward thinking that takes place within your offices? Let people have free run at all the elite-mission skins? Why do I care to play the elite mission in the first place if I can get good drops just from running that chest spot? Is this the kind of elite promotion you want for a zone you just inserted into the game a week ago? You think all the Gloom Shields being sold in Kamadan, D1 the past few days are from elite mission group drops?
I don't mind the solo farming nerfs and the new AI all that much particularly, but the excuses used for doing it aren't fooling me. If the economy was getting screwed up THAT bad by the 55 build, et al, why the hell did you leave it alone for over a freakin' YEAR then? Spirit Bond was deemed "needed to nerf" in the pre-NF skill update. Okay then. Well, tell me why you left this apparently evil, evil skill in its same form for the ENTIRE duration of Factions then? You just sat there while 55'ers/Spirit Bonders solo farmed all the greens and overfarmed areas so this legit playerbase you claim to be protecting (by doing all this stuff) had to farm the same boss 30x for hope of one green drop. Seems to me that something that dangerous and *harmful* to your game's economy and legit playerbase (as you claimed) would've required a bit more urgent action, right? Nope. You should've just said you thought it was time for all the farmers to stop. Just say that you wanted them to stop killing Trolls all day and actually buy/play through Nightfall with more than one character. That's a perfectly fine reason.
Guild Wars is a decent game, but it still needs a lot of work to be the type of game it's supposed to be. I want to be able to mix and match many different builds, but at this point I don't have the room to. If that's the way ANet wants it, fine. Well, how about doing some of that forward thinking and realizing that subsequent characters made by players to get around this limitation need to be able to be developed quicker. If I have to make a new character because my existing ones don't have enough room to hold different builds, then quit with the roadblocks. I'm sick of having to cap the same damn elite skill 10 times for each PvE character I make. I'm sick of having to play through all the early-game content 50 times when the only reason I have the newer character is to play endgame areas with the freedom and ability to have a different build that my older characters could not. How about realizing that if I'm forced to use 3-4 of my characters as storage mules that I'm going to need an easier way to transfer items between all my characters? All this login, logout, login, logout, login, logout, login BS is really starting to wear thin. ANet says they read suggestions on fan forums all the time. Suggestions have been made. Has nobody made a suggestion yet that you like? That you could build from? How could we have NOT? People only gripe about storage every other hour somewhere on the internet. Simply put, I believe you aren't willing to find a compromise on this issue at all, and are merely waiting it out.
Good game as it is, but it could so easily be even better. That's what really ticks me off. If I just had room to store all of my "Armor +5 (while taking a dump)" inscriptions, then maybe I'd bother to find a use for them instead of immediately cashing them into the merchant for 25g. Just to prove I'm not all mad, all the time, I really like the Heroes (although the current implementation could use some improvements), and I especially like the ability to save build templates. I like Nightfall. A lot. At least the few crumbs of it I can still fit in my account's pocket.
