Slightly annoyed at new attribute panel
Earth
I agree that the attribute panel is annoying the way it is now. But I must admit, I like the way the templates are, and how you can choose how you want your skills listed. The attribute panel became hard to read the way it is now though. I'm all up for a rebellion!

It's common for Anet to ignore some issues and hope the players move on to something else. This isn't the first time, by far, and I'm sure it won't be the last time.
Remember the uproar when some character's faces were changed for lip synching? Not all of them were changed back. I'm still waiting, and that's been about 5 months.
The general community has a short attention span, and if something doesn't get fixed quickly, they lose interest. IMO, Anet counts on that to avoid either having to spend resources to fix things, or tell people no.
I'm getting used to the attr. panel, but still hate it. I'll hate it until the day I stop playing this game. Every time I look at it, I resent Anet just a little bit more, and I look at it often, because I have 8 playable chars, and all the associated heros, many of which I'm still leveling.

Know what else I miss (but it's not that big a deal)? The attributes being in the Hero window. Attributes would just seem like something that would be classified under "Hero", and since they moved it, the hero window seems to be a tad empty.
Konrow
I agree with eldin. I don't understand why it was changed. I mena the move made sense, yea but no one really complaigned about the attributes being in the hero window. Its not that big of a deal tho. The arrows on the other hand are a huge deal for me as i have said before.
Bread Fan
Yes I would like the option of reverting back to the "classic" att panel. There is an option of how you would like the skills listed etc, I am sure they could accomodate us with an attribute option. Especially after a guy has a few beers that att panel can be confoozling.

I like all of the changes except the Skill template pop up, it's very annoying, as well as the attribute pop up. Everything else is great though.

I just discovered something else... with the old skills window, there used to be a box that displayed unused attribute points or something like that. When hovered over, a pop-up would tell you how many attribute points you had earned for that character (and the total possible). I found that very useful for making sure I had done both +15 attribute point quests, especially nowadays as I have many characters spread out over multiple continents. But as far as I can tell, there is no way to get this information with the new changes.
/signed for reverting the attributes part back to the way it was, and removing popups from the templates window
ANet please respond.. something... anything...

Maybe you can make the popup for template away from the name?

This still sucks, and now that I'm using templates more, the popup is bugging me too. WTH was Anet thinking? Or where they simply not thinking when that went through?

yeh the popup when loading templates, and the attribute setup is annoying, dont wanna seem ungreatful for anet trying, but just 2 things that could be improved.
raven214
Has anyone at all from ANet even recognized this problem? I mean, I appreciate that ANet is trying to improve the game, and I am happy to see them (Gaile) respond so quickly to things like minipet sounds and boardwalk rollbacks.
I can live with the attribute panel even though it was 100% better the old way IMHO, but quite frankly the template window popups just suck.
ANet, Gaile, your turn...

The popups are good and don't really do anything bad. How do you get annoyed by this?

All they need to do is move the popup one line underneath the highlighted template, or take it out altogether as it provides no real benefit. And yet I've seen no recognition whatsoever from ANet that their ill-conceived "upgrade" actually proves nothing more than an annoyance.
Feminist Terrorist
I'd prefer they remove the popup completely. It's too small to do any good and gets in the way.

Personally though, I use descriptive names and use them to navigate through the list, so having a big popup covering the list is a major inconvenience.

I hate the anew attribute panel.

Seven pages and not a word from Gaile or any other Anet person.
Hey, are you guys ignoring this issue or do y'all just not know what to say? *pokes at Anet*
New attribute panel = extreme suckage.

In my honest opinion, I like the new attribute panel, and the template popup. I also find it useful to remind me what build i'm loading. And besides, i'm all for making things look pretty. I say keep the new attribute panel.

I talked to Gaile the other day, and she said she will pass along our concerns to the design team, so at least they should/will be aware of it.
Here's part of what I sent to her (slightly edited for clarity):

A few weeks ago there was an update which revamped the skills window, attributes pane, and templates window. From checking the guildwars.com updates page, I believe it was on Wednesday, February 14. The main problem I have with the interface changes is the template window popup. It covers the templates list, making it difficult to navigate as you basically have to memorize the order of the list, stab around in the "dark", or move the cursor on/off the list to see what's there. This is annoying at best, and honestly, is in no way useful. I know the design team just wanted to make things better, but I believe many GW players agree that this was an unneccesary step backwards. An issue has been created where once there was none. This is the current setup. When the cursor is over the list, the popup window displays directly over the list, making navigation next to impossible. Suggestion #1. Have the popup display one text line underneath the currently "pointed to" template name. While it would still block some of the list, you would at least be able to see what you're pointing to, as well as above it as a frame of reference for navigation purposes. Suggestion #2. Remove the popup completely. It's redundant information that only serves to get in the way and slow things down. Another issue is the attributes pane in the skills window -- I have yet to see anyone say anything good about it (the best I've heard is literally "well, at least it works"), which speaks volumes about its effectiveness. The new layout is awkward and less useful -- for example, I really miss the box which displayed the amount of unused attribute points, because when hovered over, a popup would show you how many attribute points you had earned for that character vs. the maximum possible... very useful to make sure the character had done the two 15 attribute point quests (and now more relevant than ever since many/most players have so many characters spread out over the different continents/campaigns). As far as I can tell, the new layout does not provide any way to obtain this information. Personally, I would like to see the attribute pane reverted to the way it was prior to the February 14 update. |

Just to let you know, this was something we had worked up for a new build a bit of time ago. I'm not sure when it will be rolled out, but changes have been made to improve the problems, and from what I hear, some nice new functionality changes are in store, as well.

Nice to hear changes are coming.
I personnally hope the attributes panel will end up in a different window, so that we can have a full-height skills panel and the attributes panel side-by-side, like before the "screen-space wasting" update.

I agree with Bryant.
Basically, if you keep adding these little "functions", e.g. mouse-hover pop up, change to att placement, etc. it gets to look a bit tacky. There's really nothing wrong with the current, well - old, system. But! I do, as well as everybody else here, appreciate the work you guys put in to make the game more enjoyable for us. Keep it up!
Thanks,
Rhanoct

I dislike the attribute panel too, the arrows are the wrong way round, left arrow to go up? just plain wrong lol
Good to see changes are on the way though, im sure they will be good ones, as to be honest, 99% of the time they are.

Gaile, any new word on when this update will be included in the game? I'm looking forward to having an attr. panel that's aesthetically pleasing again.

I've actually gotten used to it, now. It don't bother me none no more.
