Good News and Bad News

Tried with my dervish and in fact he could open them all for a 3rd time, but i got a purple item from the chest on Nightfallen Jahai... bit sad to see even these chests get nerfed there, since the normal ones are already very weird(10 keys 2 golds...)

Got 2 golds and 1 purple 3 chests total opened by my warrior. Yep they refilled them and added purple junk. At least you get gold coins so you feel less ripped off.

....are you guys certain you know what you're talking about? I highly doubt these treasures give out purple items.

Well.. tested my Paragon as far as she can go over lunch, she's not gone past the Gates of Desolation yet.

All chests, treasures and Do Not Touch (ies) opened just fine, all but the chest in Bahdok Caverns yielded golds, (which popped out a purple Diamond Aegis) most with perfect mods as well, which is more than I can say for previous weapons. So 8K better off, and also got one ruby and one diamond to boot.



Lol.. I think I can tell the diff between gold ands purple.
And no, it wasn't a locked Vabbi chest.

They give out purples because I know what I'm talking about and when i did it the first time i got a purple. Not that I care, but yes they can. (To the poster two above.)

Has it been determined then that if you haven't opened the chests at all, that you can open each chest three times. And, if you have opened them (once, twice) before, that you can now open them a third time?

Sadly no, it was one of the first things I tried when I rolled my new warrior. (Toons who haven't opened them previously) There has to be some sort of reset, either update or time based trigger I guess.

But yes, my Paragon has definitely opened them 3 times.

I was able to open all chests a second time with my monk. Have not tried for a third, but will do so.

I've personally only ever gotten golds out of them, but decent Purples would be good too

Now it's even weirder...

My Necro, who opened the treasure both of the past times, can not open the Mirror of Lyss treasure, but *DID* open the Arjok Ward treasure a few moments later!

So it's not purely character based.

Perhaps it is time-based for individual characters and tresures?

I wish ANet weren't such a tease about these things.

EDIT: Jahai bluffs was empty too!

Now, I use a spreadsheet to track which chests I've opend with who, and I *know* I opened *all* of the chests last January 21.

The treasure in Jahai and in the Mirror were both empty for my necro

Tested all the chests except the two on Istan and I found 2 purple runes, the others still contained gold items.
It was the third time for my Warrior. Didn't try with my other characters yet.

Just opened over half of them for the third time with my Ranger and got pretty good results including a perfect bramble shortbow. Only one purple so far but I got a +5E>50 inscription off it. Not noticed a drop in quality compared to the last 2 times, better results if anything. I've only ever opened them with one character though.

I haven't try to do the run yet. Guess I'll do it tonight. I only opened it twice with my warrior and once with my ranger who still on the noobie island.

OK... here's a question...

How many of these characters opening a third time got a "lucky" fortune from the fortune teller?

Not for my Paragon, no. I haven't had her out at all over the New Year event.

Even after the second opening, I noticed a nerf in the chests.

First opening (they were new):
I got 33% gems basically, and Max Golds from all others (even noob island ones)

Second opening:
I got no gems from any chest, and the ones on noob island were dropping with stats relative to that area (non-max).

So I'm not surprised at all they were nerfed again.

I got nothing on my characters.

Well my drops from these chests have improved every time, I've only ever had one purple drop as well. I have never had a gem from any of them after opening them all twice and being most of the way through opening them the third time around (I've never had a rare material gem since I've been playing in fact). Everyone else that I know has had at least one or two gems from the chests. I've always opened them with the same character, a tyrian born Ranger.

New information:
I Opened the Chests the second time all in order on the same day.

When I went to second third time, It let me open all of the chests on most of my characters, but did not let my Ranger open any chest except 1 in the Mirror of Lyss.

I am SURE last time I opened all the chests in the same login period on the ranger before, all chests were open within a 30 minute timeframe if I remember right.

So I dont think its merely time based..
