That's the one. There are still alot of openings ANet can use with those Charr. Maybe they band up with the Humans, to drive the Titans out of their homeland...who knows.

But thx Gaile for giving us something to look forward to!

I read a lot in this thread and i am still sure im gonna like whatever is there to come. I chose GW over all the MMORPGS and online games and ill stay with it and at least give every new part a chance. GW is a great concept, and ANet did a great job in graphics as well as in bringing in the GW communities suggestions. They always tried to keep a balance between PvE and PvP and tho im more of a PvE player i enjoy a nice round of PvP opnce in a while. Which other game does give you the opportunity for that?
Instead of flaming GW2 or the possible new concept you should give ANet a chance to prove themselves again. Id say chances are statistically low that they release a disappointing game. If you want the same over and over again and if you are not open to new ideas- play WoW or another online game thats linear in its design. GW has always been different and will always surprise us once in a while. And thats what i like.

Imho.

PS: Heck- 9 triple accounts? And i thought my 2 triple were a lot of work...

Yeah, something tells me that at the end of "Eyes of the North", we will be teaming up with the Charr to get rid of some threat, perhaps the remaining Mursaat.

Also, another unfinished story - The Envoys. What happened with them? Didn't they shepherd souls into the afterlife or some junk? If so, maybe they were also tainted by Abaddon, or perhaps worked for him like the Margonites, assisting souls into his grasp instead of into the Underworld.

I dunno, the big meanie(s) at the end of this one could be something completely new, too. Like, what if we find out that we, the heroes, are actually behind EVERYTHING, controlling events with our actions, and must defeat ourselves! And no, not any doppleganger thing, but actually ourselves - Celestial skill and all. Muahahahaa!

Sorry, the speculation bug bit me, and I think the wound is infected...

LOL. My friends and I sometimes joke about all these different creatures that fight together to kill us. They see us as 'crazy monsters' obsessed with green items and xp that run amok killing all the innocent wildlife.

****SPOILER??****

I was thinking about the big bad forces in the next chapter. Maybe Menzies and Dhuum? I honestly don't remember hearing about what happened to them. Menzies is Balthazar's half brother and Dhuum was overthrown by Grenth and from what I've read they are super pissed with the gods of Tyria and were in league with Abbadon to overthrow them. I sometimes think that Shiro was Dhuum's pawn just as Varesh was Abbadon's. Maybe the next game will be Menzies? I have no clue. But it's all so exciting.

Hmm, I'm wondering a bit about the races. How would they do this? A new profession "Charr" with a different skin or an new race that can use existing professions?

What do you people think, would a Charr monk be able to use regular monk runes or would he need the new "Superrior Charr monk rune of smiting"?

The easiest way to handle races armor-wise would be if races were restricted to certain professions and those professions were restricted to those races.

Or they can use skins for armour that stretch over the bone. Then all they'd need is different textures for the armour for each race so the texture doesn't stretch in odd ways.
It's like the armour in Oblivion. You can have the same piece of armour for many different body shapes, yet the armour is still just one .nif model.

I agree. I was thinking about this. Perhaps they would have species-specific skills and/or attributes, but if the classes are directly tied to the races, they would be easy to balance - since you would be balancing the class/race at the same time.

EDIT: D'oh! You said armor-wise... well, my point still stands for skill balancing. Keep the classes and races linked.

I think players should have a choice of what type of race to go with what type of professions.

For example, some might want a human warrior whilst others might want a Charr warrior.

I like being able to have choices, being able to customise my character more, individuality etc rather than races only restricted to certain professions.

In short, I want to be spoilt for choices.

I completely agree! The more customization possible, the better. (Maybe not in the same detail Oblivion offers when designing faces though )

Better start selling all your ecto then, because they will be worthless if you can't port your character with FoW armor to GW2.

GW1 and GW2 shouldnt have anything to do with one another - Charr Monk? Whats the point of choosing a Charr if he's just gonna be a monk? This is where GW can really diversify is in having different professions for different races - Charr Firewalker, Charr Shaman - though this time really have different skill types for different races - Ok in GW1 the PvP/PvE worlds were interwoven so you could use the PvE world to unlock skillz etc, but with GW2 we talking 700 years into the future (from info I saw on page 1 on this thread) Why wouldnt the skills and races have evolved by then? If the only thing thats gonna be used in choosing a race is the model and armour skins and all the professions remain the same across the spectrum of races (ie charr mesmer, humain mesmer, whatever mesmer) then Anet I will be very disappointed with your lack of imagination and it will be evident that you just looking for more money sinks has people clamour for 15k armours for new models.

And if there arent new classes and skill sets then its evidently just aGW expansion and should be treated as such (not that Im against the idea of another add on - but It would be a real shame to waste this oppurtunity to diversify the playing experience)

I don't believe most of it. Especially with how they say 50 new PvE skills. All skills can be used in PvE and all skills can be used in PvP.

Also, only PC Gamer and the other magazines know what is going o happen, thats all Anet released to.

Not quite true. The Sunspear Res signet is PvE only, as are the lightbringer skills.

On the other hand, Galie said that 'some' of it was true. How big is this 'some'? It could mean just one thing (like the title) or it could mean more. Anet has a knack of always keeping us on edge.

I could easily see the reporter confusing "PvE-only" and "Elite" skills if the conference described them in terms of "you have to capture them from bosses."

I hate GW2 idea, they will try to go around licences agreement and it will be monthly fee...i bet with 100 ecto it will be something like that.

Q3 2007: release of GW: Eye of the North
2009: release of GW2 with monthly fee and characters can be imported from GW1.
2010: GW1 servers will be shut down withing 3 month, you are obligated to move your asses to GW2 or..

P.S. for Anet: if this inevitable please make all players that will move their characters will have brain damage and lose all their fame. (problem solved for all ppl whining about rank discrimination, all will start from beginning )

I really doubt Anet will have a monthly fee for GW2. It just won't be able to support itself. No one will play it. I love Guild Wars. But I refuse to pay a monthly fee to play a game. I'm not all that interested in online games. I much prefer older games with a well thought out plot than most of the wank played over the internet nowadays (God that makes me sound old) GW has a great storyline, which is why it is the only online game I play, but I still wouldn't pay a monthly fee for it.

Keep in mind that most of the GW players are in the same boat as me. They might not have the same reasoning, but they don't want to pay a monthly fee for whatever reason.

Why bother calling it GW 2 if you have people importing their characters into it from GW1 .. Just call it an expansion pack and be done with it - Unless they bring time travel skills into the GW experience I dont really see how a 700 (ish) Warrior is gonna be able to fight alongside Chars... Unless maybe you're an undead Warrior...; YES UNDEAD WARRIOR GO !! Inbuilt plague touch; Eat Brains signet, Rise from the Grave signet. / joy !!!

Get over your 7000 ingame hours with your leet character 15k armours title hunts - GW2 = new start > imported elite characters; - I dont remember seeing D1 characters in D2 and Im sure those of us who were there remember how good D2 was..(YES I CAN RUN !!)

I say that in order to keep interest and whine control to the maximum a new time warp PvP arena should be made where the new generation of warrior can unload a can of whupp asz on the ancient heros of ye oldé GW1.... That may be interesting - unless of course combat is completely revamped and Nrg and adrenaline and interrupts and nrg denial and hexes etc get completely thrown out of the window... which wouldnt be a bad thing IMHO makes a new game out of GW.. But then again... most other games who make a sequel keep a majority of the same game mechanics (eg Doom, Warcraft/C&C etc)

Looking at the Heroes of Might and Magic series - they got better as they went along - in terms of graphics and immersion - And I think that we would all love to see what Anet can do with DirectX10 and Vista when it will be the hot and cold running OPS system for computers everywhere round about 2009/10.. Or whatever the heck DX.. version will be out in 3 years time.

Anyway I guess what Im trying to get at before I start rambling is: GW1 characters in GW1 - GW2 characters in GW2.

A lot of people prefer to only play their one hero through an entire series of games, because of the roleplaying aspect. That is at least why I would want some way to import GW1 chars to GW2... And there would be a simple plot device that could do it.

At the end of Eye of the North, your character falls into a glacier and gets frozen. 700 years in the future, you get thawed out and somehow survive. However, having been trapped inside a piece of ice for 700 years is more exhausting than you'd think, so you don't have the strength you once had, and you haven't experienced this new world. So basically, the only thing you have left of yourself is your looks and your titles.

Personally, I don't much care for importing. I mean, when I first read this, I was really devastated at the thought that I wouldn't be able to play my ranger any more. But then it occured to me... If I can play a charr hunter, that is so much cooler than playing a little girl ranger. But I would still like some sort of way to show that my old hero did once exist, and had saved the world on three seperate occasions (or four if you count the expansion).

So, it's like I said in my other post... I'll find it and quote it so I don't have to type it out again:

this makes me think of golden sun. (the GBA game of Camelot)
Golden Sun and Golden Sun 2; The lost age

You can transfer your old party from GS1 to GS2 and keep all your djinni's, items, stats, lvl, armor etc.
but you could also start a new story and begin al clean.

but we need to be pationed, all comes clear very soon.... i hope.

Well it says it's supposed to take time several hundred years after Prophecies. Our characters would be dead by then, you'd have to start over, it only makes sense. Hey, you can make characters and imagine they're the descendents of your old ones.

Ok before this starts sounding like oneupmanship which I hate - So how do you get back to GW1 once your character has been unthawed from being a herosicle for 700 years? And from a roleplaying aspect there's gonna be a hell of a lot of people getting thawed out.... How are people 700 years from GW1 gonna respond to that?

'Hero: Ahh Ive been unthawed from being frozen from 700 years ago where I killed a Lich, a ghostly assassin who killed an emporor and I destroyed an insane God and look at my obsidian armour and I have pathfinder status in 3 continents and I'm a Vanquishing Gladiator */emote */emote */flex
Villager: Yeh go and join the queue over there for the office of recently thawed out heroes from 700 years ago plz. You'll be assigned a village to protect from the Cyber-Demons of Neckrohell. There's been a shine load of you guys thawing out recently...'

Ok so that sounds like a cheap shot and I understand your wish/desire to have your ingame status transferred to GW2. However I really believe that importing characters will really restrict Anet in their creative process of enhancing the game as GW2.

They'd then have to bend to the will of 'I want my money and items availble to me' whining - Instantly unbalancing and destroying any new type of economy that they can try to create - Skill and combat systems would have to be based on the old one (meaning HELLO EXPANSION AND NOT NEW GAME) as old skills will be transferred into GW2 -

Every game has its time and is eventually replaced - GW2 will eventually replace GW1 - I dont think that it would be a good idea to link the two together.

I'm kind of on the fence about being able to transfer characters. On one side, it's a brand new game, and it'd be great to start again from scratch, along with everyone else. But at the same time, I don't really want to say goodbye to the characters I've spent hundreds of hours playing, earning titles and hard to get weapons, etc.

I'm not sure I'd buy Chapter 4, if it GW2 meant I was going to lose everything anyway.

Yes, but by your same reasoning, how many times has the lich/Shiro/Abaddon been killed? You can't use that argument for GW, because it just doesn't make sense. There's all sorts of aspects about the game that just simply can't be explained away by logic. Being able to go back and repeat missions, being able to retry and quest that you've failed because an NPC dies. Logic doesn't come into it. It's fantasy.

As for how to get back to GW1, I don't think there should be a way. It's gotta be a choice. You can either stay and enjoy your nice safe already beaten environment, or you can move on to new horizons, and never look back.

But I do agree that it will possibly be a better game if we all have to start from scratch again. I especially wouldn't want to see all the armour and mass wealth being imported, because a) it would be a pain for the devs to redesign all the armours for the new system, and b) because it would tip the balance straight away toward those that had mass wealth before. But I do strongly feel that our old characters shouldn't be forgotten. They shouldn't be able to come to the future (maybe. I'm still not sure how I feel about that), but they should have something to remember them by.

I agree that every game has its end. I just don't know if GW1 is ready to end. It may well be. Like I said, I really don't know. I think GW2 will be exciting and new, but with new comes this annoying nostalgia for how things used to be, and when you try to go back, you ruin the good memories because you've been tainted by a better system. It's the way things work.

You are talking from GW1 player view of game little bit shallow in:

1- gears: balance of the game and skill over time that was Anet advertise made all gears same at stats but look different (skins blah blah..) what if they made GW2 gears differentiate in PvE while make it same standard for its PvP ?!!

2-instances: you are all alone outside city but if they made like WoW ?!!!

3-no mounts (since the proportion between area spaces that you explore and the need of mount make it useless for now) what if you have massive massive explorable areas with no chance to cut it walking ?!!!

4- be able to swim, jump from cliff ...etc. !!

5- No Auction houses and huge storage area, what if Anet provide it in GW2 ?!

If we agreed together that GW2 will be monthly fee don't tell me that it will excluding all of these points anyone will pay for its fees...Why ?
because we have our GW1 and its free.
So ?Anet is taking another direction of "grinding = time = uber gears for you and alot $$ for me"!!

Bottom of line GW2 looks like another direction that they were promising of before, they are counting on GW legacy name that has been built for 4 years (if you count the 2 years of developing GW2), it will be monthly fee

Anet want to break their promise of GW= no monthly fee with smart way, may be GW2 with massively PvE content and Anet dependence on their fans to buy it...who knows what will happen after 2 years

I hope all what i'm saying about monthly fees goes wrong but i'm little bit suspicious.

Basically you're saying they should make the game like WoW, when most people play Guild Wars because they don't like the way other MMO's, such as WoW work. I for one never got into World of Warcraft because I'm not fond of the social aspects, I don't have a large amount of time, I hate grinding, and I won't pay monthly for any game.

Guild Wars suits me perfectly, adding in a monthly fee would destroy everything GW is about, and turning it into another generic MMO wouldn't help anything either.

Well, I still don't agree with you. In my mind, Anet has always been a company more about pleasing it's customers than about making money. I know some people feel differently, but this is how I see it. Why else would they actually listen to our suggestions? Why else would they put on all these special events that completely overload their servers, just so that the players can have some fun?

But, if they do add a monthly fee (which is possible, I won't deny it), no matter what great elements are in the game, I will not pay. The games industry is becoming too greedy. Anet shows us that there are still companies out there that want to produce a quality product that can be delivered at an affordable rate (to me, WoW, or any other pay to play games, are not affordable). If they change this, then I'll finally know that there are no longer people out there willing to create a dream just to please.

I hope you can't transfer your characters to Guild Wars 2, just because I don't want to the team to waste time on something as silly as that.. and hopefully the character modes and stuff will be more customized ect, so people would want to create a new character anyway.

Edit: I also hope it's pay to play.. that way there anet can do the updates ect and it will weed out the stupid players from those willing to pay and take it more seriously (to a degree.) I have no problem paying a monthly fee for a game that i'm enjoying... plus it would be easier for a.net than having to pull out an expansion every couple of months.

Suspiscious? Why in the world would they change their model? Has GW made money? I'm pretty sure that it has, so why change their model just because they're making a "new" Guild Wars? I havn't seen any time where anyone at ANet or NCSoft have said anything about the possibility of a monthly fee(if I'm wrong show me).

Also, what your are describing tehre is WoW. GW2 will not be a WoW clone. I have faith in ANet and I believe that they are out to create something different in the online fantasy community. For one, instancing is one of the reasons that GW works and I really don't see them changing that. I can see groups getting larger in PvE, but still instanced. As far as an "open" world with jumping off of cliffs and all, we'll see. I don't think it will happen though. Part of the reason GW looks so good is taht fact that you only have to load one zone at a time, so they can fill each zone with incredible detail.

Whatever they do, it'll still be Guild Wars. What that means exactly is still up in the air. It's only 9 days though till we will hopefully know much more about what to expect.

My dear friend, games are merely games. It will not affect your life. No one in real is going to wow at your achievement ingame. That being said, all your so called achievement in your gaming world will disappear once the game is gone or being replaced.

Call me pragmatic. Real life achievement is the more concrete one. As for game, there's no need to take it so seriously. just enjoy the game with a light-hearted spirit and as a form of leisure i guess
