I would suppose that a new GW2 would be created in an effort to utilize all the recent developments in Processing and Graphics speed enhancement. Just as with cars, eventually every engine runs its course. I think that ANET would most certainy keep their free subscription status. It's what makes the game so appealing.
What I think the next iteration of GW is going to do is finally fix all that was wrong with GW1. Although, I just feel "new" problems will come from the new content. Maybe that in game Auction system will come about, lol. Maybe we'll have even more latitude in reference to how our characters look. The possibilites are exciting as to what they will "give" us, rather than "take" from us.

As long as my current Characters carry over to ALL further installments of GW, I'm happy.
defrule
GW2 will come with no reconnects, no uax, no bal faction and it will be horribly unbalanced.

Maybe they can get the character creation tool from CoH?

There should Not be a way to bring GW1 toons into GW2....It would totally ruin the "NEW" game feel of GW2....Most people who play now are never going to catch up items and money wise to the people that started at beta. It would be dumb to let these mostly inactive oldtimers drag stacks of ectos and elite status over to a new fresh game. Anyone who dosnt think this way should go read the "whats your best weapon?" thread. people where making warriors because they had found a purple 14-28 13 wile enchanted hammer....bringing over old toons would distroy that fresh start. IMO

nothing lasts forever.
all you "work" for will be gone. Heck, I was the UKs best known Ultima Online gamer (if a feature in PC Zone 5 pages long with photos determines that kind of thing) and who cares now?
new game, new fun. I'm going to head to LOTRO, and keep guildwars and nwn2 for those evenings I'm sick of grinding hehe.

While I don't think characters should port over to GW2 because of the "elite" factors...such as money...items...UAX and so on...I do believe that there should be some sort of recognition of your past characters.
For example....Say you have KoaBD then you would get a title in GW2 like...Noble..or Count or Countess
and if its people know me...or whatever the ranks of that max title track go..you would get say Duke or Duchess..
for you treasure hunters you could get something like a discover title
for wisdom titles you could get a scholar title
but only if the Title is Maxed out in GW 1 and it should have no bearing on the game play of GW2
That way those elite players are still recognized in the new game but aren't yet ELITE :P

i wouldn't mind paying for GW, if that would allow Anet to make it even better.
but i am not sure i want to lose all that i have accomplished in GW1 when GW2 apears. it would feel real bad to know that all of that is lost.

I'm 90% Sure this is complete BS, unless anything official is posted by gaile or anyone from ncsoft/anet, i'm not gonna believe it.
and the site looks very unprofessional, and the info in the article looks VERY fake, only 150 skills? 50 PvE skills? Dungeons...?

I believe when people spoke about bringing their characters over, their intention was not on wealth and weapons.
For people who farm in the existing GW, they can and will probably still continue to farm in GW 2. Nothing will stop them. For people who don't farm, most of them will still continue not to farm. The wealth divide is always going to be there.
With regards to weapons... there will be better weapons which might render existing weapons as mere mementos, so i do not see that as a problem either.
I guess for people who wanted to bring their existing characters over, their desire is to have an option to choose whether or not to continue the string that attaches their current character and bringing it into the next expansion.
Sure, their armour might be obsolete due to better armours in GW 2 but what is important is they still have mementos of it.
With regard to ranking, there might be a different ranking system to render the current ranking system obsolete too.
Happy memories are human's greatest assets and they are everlasting, so I am all for migrating our existing characters to GW 2.
I'm sure if there's a will, there's a way. ANET can bring us over if they wanted to.
Regards,
Ariel

Kind of like a 'thanks for supporting us back then' thing. I don't think it should go any further than that though (e.g. only that one title). Of course that's assuming they even bother with titles, although they'd be crazy not to considering the effort people put into them.

seriously though i think a title (or transfer of titles) and name reservation is really all that should happen anything else will be a technical problem for anet to handle that could be better spent prepping servers and content.

Seriously though I do hope they let us link up our accounts, PVP titles and such are account based, which wouldnt make them a total loss. But I have to agree with most people that the characters would not port over well.
I wonder if names are going to get stolen oh the drama that would ensue.

does a-net have a certain time they update their web page everyday, and if so, what time is that? i'm giddy with anticipation waiting for the info that Gaile mentioned would show up today.
Arduin
Where did Gaile mention ANet is revealing info today? She said we just had to wait for the release of the magazines, halfway March, if I'm correct.

I have to say i really don't get peoples concern about bringing characters over. This is GW, not WoW, how much of a connection can you really have to your character. He gets maxed out in an hour and once you buy max armor you bascily have all the gear you'll ever need. Now don't get me wrong, i love my Prophecies ranger, I've played through all 3 campaigns with him and have capped countless skills. But when it comes to a new game, i want to start again, live the game to the fullest. If GW2 is similar enough to GW1 where you can just port everything over, whats the point? why not just keep making new chapters? I mean, if you ask me, it would be great if ALL the professions we have now aren't even in GW2, gives us a whole new crop shit to play with. I don't want to get it and go, well, i've played as all these before... guess ill make anther ranger..ohh look barrage, guess i should cap that <sigh>. I'm looking forward to GW2 huge (whether is article is true or not, to think there not going to go a GW2 would be foolish). And you know what, if a 6 months from now I'm sick and tired of GW, ill stop playing, maybe ill give Age of Conan a try, but when GW2 comes out, i'll pick it back up. I dont need constant Guild Wars content till the next game, theres plenty of games coming out. I'll play some crysis or something.
Well thats my two cents.

Because I'm receiving a lot of emails asking why we don't have this on our front page as news I'd just like to leave this message.
This is ‘unofficial’ information so we decided to keep it to the forums so as not to mislead people as we don’t know exactly what content might be false, true or misleading per Gaile Gray's post.
I also spoke with the author of this article and he indicated that he received all this information in an email from NCSoft, which of course doesn’t add up as they were the only site to feature this and all the others are just repeating his information. Any email that came from NCSoft would have been released to several media outlets and not just a site dedicated to tech and PC news. So we’ve been doing our research!
Until there is more official information or a statement from NCSoft we'll keep this discussion just to the forums versus making a news announcement.
Thanks.

No in her replies on one of her posts she mentioned a 'tidbit' will be put up on the website. I am sorry but I am too lazy to search and quote the para. However, it will only be a tidbit!

Why should people port over titles on new characters? Or on old ones who's fame in the intervening years would have seriously waned. Cartographers titles would be redundant unless the worlds were identical wouldn't they? Who'd want identical worlds?
Who's going to remember I drank a lot of ale a few hundred years from now, or opened a load of chests?
Perhaps the protector titles are up for grabs, but again, not on new characters, they weren't the same character that achieved that status after all.

I just noticed something. if you shorten guild wars Eye of the North to the a similar abreviation to the ones used by previous campaigns (GW:P, GW:F, GW:NF) you get GW:EN or Gwenur little friend....maybe this is a teaser!

Just thought I'd throw in my two cents on the 'races'.
If you look at the old GW manual and read up on some of the Maguuma jungle quests, you'll see that GW had a race of druids who died/transformed/whatevered. Seeing as how GW has never had elves or anything of the sort, I'd be more inclined in believing that this race (if real) would be these lost to history druids.
Our favorite winged enemy, who proved to not actually be an enemy. The mursaat. They oppose the gods, we know that much just from ToA, and think they are better. So I am inclined to see this as that race, since there are still mursaat on the Isle of Janthir where ever that may be.
Everyway I look at it, this seems to be our friendly awe loving dwarves of the peaks. Woo...
Anyway, that's just my two cents on the races dealeo.

Yup, right under my Speculation Boot
At the moment, that Boot is circling around Theos' post, about the races. Sounds plausible, in my opinion. Why go looking for Elves if we already got Druids?
[EDIT] Where did that Mat go?
