"Fresh Guild Wars announced" From the Inquirer!
H The Dunedain
hmm, i think making a new game is Anet's biggest mistake so far, did some questioning in guild 56/98 members isn't going to buy gw2 if you need to start whole over, including me... 50 PvE skills, no old charcs, i'll loose every unlocked skill, also waiting untill 2009-2010 is going to make them loose a lot of players.. no new campaign for 4 moths is too much for some ppl, 2-3 years is going to be 4 mil players to no players
m0r1arty
I don't think they'll make a new game.
I'll be out of here if they do - and I'm certain I'm not alone.

If you're right then I'll move onto the Firefly or something else styled online game.
Guild Wars is my first and only online role playing thusfar - it'll be a sad day when I say goodbye to it.
I suppose somewhere I hope to pass it down through the ages to my kiddies and the like, but more fool me I suppose.

not a new game, just another stand-alone campaign, in another era

The idea of "GW2" is based completely on one article on a technology rumor site. One article, which in itself was based on a single "insider" e-mail of dubious origin.
I would be surprised if there isn't a GW2 on the drawing boards, and 2009/10 seems a logical time frame. But I sincreely doubt that GW will simply shut down for 2-3 years and completrely replace the original game withe something new.
The PC Gamer magazine will be out soon, and we'll know more.
My pre-magazine prediciton: Eye of the North is a "hold over" expansion to keep us playing while they work on the next three-part set of chapters. Likely it will resolve many mysteries, and give us something to do while we wait for a something "big" later in the year. The next trilogy will start arriving in late 2007 and go one through 2008, by which time GW2 will be in beta. I'd expect GW2 around Christmas 2009/Spring 2010.
Of course, my speculations are no better than what was published last week in the rumor mill. We'll find out soon enough.

Seriously people, This is NOT an official announcement, it's a rumor from someone who we don't know. For all we know it's some pimple faced 12yr old with huge glasses writing what he hopes happens.

If GW2 is real, NOBODY has a clue of how it might be implemented. Speculation is one thing, but saying you'll jump out of the game because your 15-year old ego must be satiated is dumb. I for one expect a GW2 to be released eventually, as the GW engine can only be unique for so long, new innovations must be implemented in a game in order to stay competitive. Think Diablo to Diablo 2. Soon there will be a Diablo 3 (not a fact I am just assuming).
Natural evolution, and game dev theory really. If they make a superior product in GW2 than in GW, they will be able to make more money, and since you seem to be so attached to a virtual character and base your happiness on time played, then I guess you don't play GW2, and we don't have to deal with this incessant whining about how ANET better listen and NOT try to make a better experience for us!
Wahhhhhhhhhh!
Sorry, just seen too much of that lately, had to explode eventually.
And H, you are biting hard and fast into the arm that lies saying that GW2 is fact, because guess what, the Inquirer article has been deemed mostly misinformation (please read Gaile's posts earlier). There are no facts. And just because a domain has been registered, does not make a game name. They could buy it so no one else manipulates for nefarious purposes. Sure, it could be the name, but nobody will know till the PCG gets delivered.
I like reading speculation, people coming up with ideas, but people whining and complaining about stuff and saying its fact and that they are quitting? So dumb.

I'm getting tired of the people complaining about fiction. Wait a few more days for an official announcement and then complain if you don't like it. Complaining now is a complete waste of time.
Tomorrow will tell the future of GW, not today.

You don't think they'll make a new game? What else would they be doing all this time? What do you think the entire company has been doing since Nightfall? Riding ferris wheels all day? If developers listened to you nut cases we would still be playing Zork. Not that you know what Zork is.
Guild Wars is one game. There are other games. You can play all of them, or some of them, or none of them... and you certainly don't have to stop playing GW when GW2 comes out.

From what I gathered by Inde's brief thread, Guru will be putting together some kind of synopsis of the article, supplied by information from subscribers that get it. What they don't want are scans of the article, or a word-for-word retyping of it. Those will probably get deleted. So, relax, and probably tomorrow or Monday we'll see a thread open up on it.

ok ok people some new news is in! The scribe has just released a new article about the up coming "bit'o luck" weekend.
in this article he describes a small fellow he met from a far off realm he describes this character as short infact "no higher than a dwarf" are the words he usues if i remember correctly, he explains that this man is also wearing green clothing (sounds suspiciosly like a lepricorn) and explians to the scribe that he will gift our lands with a "bit'o luck" this weekend. he explains 2 items that might be dropping if we slay beasts in our land this weekend one is a type of ale and the other is a 4 leafed clover. (see items related to lepricorns). it sounds like a fun weekend infact dont think anet have hosted a weekend quite like it before, apart from the pvp weekend when we could get cremme brulee and firewater etc..
anyway heres the link so you can read it yourself
http://www.guildwars.com/community/t...ibe-070315.php
basically i dont know whether this has anything to do with the new game or not but maybe anet are trying to slip us a few hints about what the new game is going to be like. i really dont know, but feel free to read it so we can discuss it together. personally i find it a bit more of a coincidence that a weekend like this is being hosted just around the same time there going to begin giving info about the new game. i think maybe this is an in game lead up type thing kinda like when factions was on the verge of realesing and the two camps for luxons and kurzicks where placed outside lions arch to give everyone a feel about what the nee game was gonna be like.

Innit
Essentially, they have tried to condense the joyous, cultural Irish festival of St Patrick's Day into a stereotyping spoof involving beer, ginger people, and/or leprechauns posing as dwarves. It isn't about Chapter 4, I bet, the magazine loaded with info is coming along any day now, no point in being subtle.
Honestly. Us Irish are more than just alcohol-chugging hooligans on Saint Patrick's Day. I think there's a parade of some sort. Can't be sure.

With the upcoming info and all the talk about GW2. I am at a loss if i should keep hammering at this game or not. It is fun and i love it. But do i want to keep puting in the time if it will be for nothing when the next game comes out.
And i know i am jumping the gun with the info not being out yet but the tension is killing me. I have read all the threads. The poll of should we keep the chars or not. The great server in the sky. The ones about should there be nonhuman classes or not. And this keeps me going back from thinking it will be great to the heck with it move on to something else.
I am good with any changes that they make to the game. With the exception of not being able to keep my char. and if i cant i dont want to keep hammering on with him for nothing. The reason i started this game is what i read about a chapter every 6 months and a 10 year run. I am getting the feeling that the carpet is about to be jerked out from under me.
What does everyone here think if the news is its over for this portion of GW.
Keep hammering?
Jump to something else?

Yeah, I'm looking more forward to Aion (http://www.plaync.com/us/games/aion/)
than GW/CH4.. I need a new game, new stuff to do, and a new concept.

2. It's a little premature to worry about GW2 and it's effect on GW as the questionable info we have gives it a projected release date of 2009.
My advice is to keep playing GW and enjoying it. Let the future take care of itself. If the servers shut down (NOT as long as ArenaNet shows a profit on them) at some time years away, then, as with older standalone games, gamers will take their memories and move on to the new.
Grunntar
I can certainly understand the thoughts behind this question. I was a litttle thrown with the announcement of new content, but keep in mind that you likely have (at least) a few more months of the current trilogy, plus the play time for the upcoming chapter 4 (GW:EN). That should get you 8 to 12 months of gaming, I would think. Perhaps you should just advance your character(s) with that time line in mind?
Or perhaps you may want to look from a different perspective...
You, as a human, are eventually going to die. Should you go on breathing, knowing that it's a waste of time? After all, what's the point, since you can't take anything with you...?
In my opinion, play the game to the max, as long as you are having fun. As soon as you stop having fun, move on, and don't look back!

Although if I come across ONE leprechaun that tells me "They're magically delicious!" I'll probably pee on my keyboard.
Interesting if the Eye of the North took place in an Emerald Isles type setting. That could be the basis for some stunning graphics. Not only that... but Guild Wars Golf.

I personally don't... please do not take my opinions personally but I am not a fan at all of Asian styled games in terms of art and graphics. I could not stand Lineage II and I don't think I will be able to stand AION either. I am not saying that it is bad, I am saying I don't like it at all :\

Any idea if there will be a monthly fee with Aion?
It looks like the next step in Guild Wars, actually.

If you have to start over with a new toon in GW2 ("warrior" now is "fighter", "elementalist" is now "mage" [for example] and thus no bringing the old professions forward) isn't there a certain amount of excitement over a new beginning? I'd have to think so, thus all the people swarming to the new professions as they were released with Factions and Nightfall.
If you play for fun, keep playing.

A new beginning won't mean you've wasted your time. The fact that you don't seem to enjoy actually playing the game is what is wasting your time.
