"Fresh Guild Wars announced" From the Inquirer!
carlokes
Hi all,
Well i guess i'll be playing Guild Wars until 2009...because there's no frekin way I'll waste my time playing with a stupid Chaar...Humans FTW.
Now serious...GW2...strating everything from start after investing so much and with so much story to explore in GW...A.NET can count another one out of their plans.
I just hope this news is BS and there's a good explanation to everything, because no software house can survive 2 years without any huge incoming profit (like an expansion).
Stay Cool.

I am calling complete and total BS on this one.
To start off, the article is full of grammar mistakes. If they didn't take the time to run a simple spellchecker, I aint going to trust them to get thier facts straight.
They say at the beginning: "NCSoft has announced...", yet NCSoft has made no such announcement. A check of all thier recent press releases has not revealed anything, and thier site is mum as well.
They never once mentioned Anet. Anet is the developer not NCSoft. Even if it was close to true, it would have been talking about Anet, not NCSoft.
The expansion format. All expansions are standalone, and I find it hard to believe that Anet would follow the model they say here. (you must own an existing campaign, and the price dropped down)
Thier "numbers" i.e. 18 new multi-level dungeons. First of all, since when did the term multi-level dungeon apply to GW? It sounds like he is talking about a totally different MMO. Also, those numbers seem way off, as others have mentioned. 150 skills is by no means massive, and 40 armor sets is on the scale of an expansion not an add-on as they claim.
Guild wars and Eye of the North, nor any possible combination of the above is registered in any .com, .net, or .biz. No company in thier right mind would announce a title without having first registered the namespace. Heck, companies register dozens of names they never even use just to cover thier bases. (see guildwarsutopia)
All of the press releases and data from Anet and NCSoft do not support the claim of an "announcement"
All in all, complete and total BS

Besides, something fresh to go play when GW1 is starting to grind would be most welcomed by now.

GW's inner workinbg are quite a technology feat that every single game dev company would love to see sources of.
Ncsoft would think twice before giving competition something like that, and i am positive that there is lots of legalese around what anet can and cant publish from games inner workings that would make it quite a suicide for anyone to leak such thing.

Few things
1)- 100 skills for PvP in new Gw Addon is a joke, really
2)- if Gw 2 will have a month fee- I'm out
3)- races? what for? This isn't wow, this is GW...
4) I dont like the direction in which Gw is going... seems more like farm wars, than Guild Wars
5) I really hope that players with Gw 1 will have some benefit in the beginning of Gw 2... I have all campaigns and when Gw 2 is out, AN will probably stop to work on Gw 1...
Anyway- this isn't good news for me

GW2 wont be a WoW clone from a sheer market standpoint. NCSoft already has its WoW competitor which is Lineage II, and the expected Lineage III.
I don't buy into hype, and I don't buy this early information on GW2.
And about the next chapter, it is kind of hard to see how they could stretch it out to 6 or 7 long the way they have been progressing.
Character transfer? What is the point? Guild Wars is little more then digital entertainment, if you want something that will be around for a long time invest in something real. A fresh start never killed anybody.

The Inquirer is *NOT* the National Enquirer.
The National Enquirer is a supermarket tabloid, with stories about Alvis and aliens.
The Inquirer is an established technology news site, with a somewhat anti-Microsoft, anti-Dell viewpoint.
The article was published by the latter, which has *no* relation to the former.
That said, I can't vouch for whether or not the Inquirer is correct about what's going on with Guild Wars. Like any new site, it could well have been spoofed. Or maybe they found a drunk NCSoft employee in the bar; lots of leaks happen that way.

Reason for character transfer... we've been building these chars for a couple years now. A non-transferrable "GW2" would split and ruin the player base.
Well, this whole thing stinks to a degree not smelled in quite some time. It is so against the modus operandi of ANet that I really believe it's a fake. With the screwups contained... not a very well thought out fake either.
Multi-level dungeons my arse.

1) GW2 would have to have all 10 classes that it currently has
2) GW2 would have to allow secondary professions same as it does now
3) GW2 would have to recreate ALL armour, weapons, faces and other graphical elements that are already contained in GW1
4) GW2 would have to allow the same basic combat system, skills, dmg, energy etc as GW1
If all of this was to happen, then why not just do a major graphical update to GW1, make an expansion, and call it a day? No way they are going to recreate everything from GW1 and also limit themselves to the confines of the current engine. Plus, the whole concept of allowing your character to come in at level 20 and then progress to level 40 is doubtful as well... It works well in games where you leave the old character behind, but what happens when your buddies want to do a FOW run in GW1 and you've moved your character to GW2? You can't go back? That would kill the old servers (no one would be on them) and plus everyone is going to want to occasionally revisit some GW1 content... No, I doubt they would let you bring a character forward with you. I would like it, but I doubt it.

It is true that if characters can't be transferred that the player base will be split. I have seen the same thing happen in other multiplayer games (not MMOs) and that is just the way things worked out. Half of the people kept playing the original and half (or sometimes less than half) played the new version.
I don't understand why everyone is complaining about races though. I mean, knowing GW, they will likely only be for cosmetic appeal and one won't have an advantage over the other.

Seems to me from what i can read. That with the coming of GW2 it will make GW1 obsolete. No one we play it anymore because everyone has moved to GW2. ANd with it not going to be here for a coiple years everyone will move on to something else anyway.
With all the time spent build the char that you want and getting guilds, guild halls, armor, and weapons that you want. and then to have the plug yanked out of the wall. Why even carry on with GW1 if it will be no more?

Do you guys think that they will maintain their Guild Wars 1 servers, say you don't wanna buy Guild Wars 2 and just wanna PvP/PvE for almost forever with the remaining GW1 players?
xxSilhouette
I just can't believe this. It sounds waaay off. It seems so fishy that it is on the Inquirer, but not on The official website.
I also think that Anet realizes and would know that if they did something like this, and your GW1 characters were unable to travel to this GW2, and that you couldn't use your GW1 characters for anything, that they would loose a large amount of players. And the thoughts on the monthly fee that was said on here, My guess is that would also loose a huge amount of players.
I won't believe anything until i see a post from Gaile or until i see PC Gamer.

Okay..HOLD ON...RELAX...Let's Think about this...
The author...Theo Valich
He has been right once in all the posts I looked at...Google him...He got the Laptop battery recall correct. Everything else he has been wrong about. He has been charged with being a propaganda machine...his objectivity is suspect.
The source...unnamed from GDCON in San Fran...there is nothing on the website...no other agency has picked it up...its been 11 hours since his story broke...the conference starts March 5...which is tomorrow.
How did Theo get a screen shot of the new addon? Did some developer HAPPEN to be carrying around a thumb drive Screen shots saved to it? AND then we are to believe he would TRUST Theo with it?
I am sure that somone told Theo something...but what he heard could have been a dev messing with him...I mean come on, the guy was chased out of an interview cuz he is a jerk...
Relax,t he sky s not falling...continue on your title gathering and getting all your toons to the end.

Anyone considered AN may have leaked this info themselves, to create loads of hype ready for the PC gamer reveal. Then when reveal day comes and most of this info is wrong, everyone will be at fever pitch about it and so the marketing campaign will be more visible than if they had just kept quiet.
Inde
Well, the article indicates it's coming from the Game Developer's Conference (GDC) that is currently going on in San Francisco, CA right now from March 5th-9th. This could have been a preview, something released too early, an NDA breach or any number of things. That doesn't provide validity to it but just an FYI.

GALIEEEEE! WE NEED A COMMENT!
Seriously, I'm concerned about Galie not showing up yet, especially on such a sensitive topic. Her absence makes me have nightmares that this is true and she has her hands tied due to the PC Gamer thing.
Even if Galie doesn't show up, I'm not believing one word of this. I actually learned about Nightfall when the notice "Nightfall is Coming!" appeared at the login. As long as A-Net, NC Soft and all the guys up there don't say a word I'll consider this article the fruitful imagination of a group of people who couldn't bear the tension of waiting for an official response about CH4.
Let's pretend, and I really mean PRETEND this is fact and not fiction:
1): Multi-level Dungeon?? WTF is this? I never EVER heard anything of the sort in GW.
2): 10 new heroes? What for? we can only take 3 heroes with us at a time and we already have 2 warriors, 2 necromancers, 2 elementalists, 2 monks, 2 rangers, 1 mesmer, 1 ritualist, 1 dervish, 1 paragon and 1 assassin. If they wanted to make even them out at 2 of each profession, only 5 would be needed.
3): 40 new armor sets? If, as I take it, it's 40 across 10 professions, then it may be possible.
4): "massive 150 new skills"? since when 150 is massive when considering skills? 50 PvE only? this leaves little fresh air to PvP, giving only 10 new skills each profession across 42 attribute lines. I (as everyone here, I think) expect this number to include the new elite skills, which each will need to have a boss to kill and capture it from.
Moving on, GW2: On this I'm puzzled. If chars can't progress then it just sucks; if they can, what will happen to their older versions in GW1? Will they just disappear and that's it? And how are the newly-transferred to go back to the lands of Tyria, Cantha and Elona? Oh, and I almost forgot, how on earth will they survive for hundreds of years? A special gift of Kormir for helping her in her quest to save Elona from Abaddon and his minions, perhaps?
__________________________________________________ ___________
All of this is purely my imagination in the remote possibility of this news being true. But, as I said in the beginning, I refuse to believe anything until Galie speaks or an official notice appears on the official site.

They'll prolly merge to one server, like the international districts. So the remaining gw1 players can still play. No need for euro, usa etc servers anymore.
Also if you move on with your character to gw2 (you are not in gw1 anymore, I thought you would figure out that for yourself), you can always make a new character in gw1 if you wanne do an uw run with your friends. Just like people make characters in pre now, to always stay there. I don't see the logic to go back when gw2 is out. You wanne progress with that main character.
In Baldur's gate, if I remember correctly, one could bring over his character to BG2 but not the weapons, armor or gold. So a fresh start but still with your same character you started with a long time ago and that's the point. The feeling that you still play with the same character you're playing with for years then. A true hero you know.
I don't see a problem with the 10 classes, BG did it and even added triple combinations and a few new classes and races too. If they did it 10 years ago, I'm sure the Anet devs can do it now too.
How to survive 100 years? Drink from the fountain of youth people, one of the oldest stories in the fantasy world.

The only thing they could say, is no comment wait until PCgamer comes out.
None of which would satisfy OMG it's on the web it must be true freeding frenzy. Just be patient we'll know soon enough.

Wow, feel like I have to repeat myself here. I never said any of this was true or that I believed it. Just like Menter pointed out I have said this is unconfirmed information. This is not official. Trying to get all the information doesn't point to me saying something is valid/true or invalid/untrue. Pointing out that this is being claimed to be reported from the GDC does not by any stretch of the imagination point to me saying that any of this has a shred of truth to it at all. People were wondering the "source" of this and I stated where it was supposedly coming from.
And I do believe that NCSoft or ArenaNet will be making an official statement versus Gaile Gray at this point as it is in the media now. There are others sites who are now sharing this information and reporting it as news.

I call BS.
Why make a new game engine, when every GW is a standalone game? Not to mention they have changed the engine slightly evey time a new GW comes out.
Why make a GW 2? It's out. It's called, Guild Wars Factions. It's a stand alone game, not an expansion.
Sounds like this article was trying to deliberatly Piss on ANet. I don't want that to happen.
So, to the writer the article, Unless a Dev confirms it, stfu!
