PC Gamer May 2007 Information - "Guild Wars Reborn"

May be I missed this topic in this thread, but I could not find it either.
I would address this question to Gaile Grey/Dev Team:
In case you have multiple GW1 accounts. Is it possible to combine different characters on different GW1 accounts to one family book/tree in GW2?
For example:
I have 2 characters on my second account and 3 characters on my main account that I would like to bring them into GW2 via GW:EN in one family tree. Will there be an option to do this?

I don't know specifics about which mini pets all or just rare, customizable weapons and armor, and which titles carry over because I know people like me would want to get a head start on that stuff for EOTN and GW2. Maybe some hints or something. I have the magazine and I know the game's beta isn't till 2008 but I would really like to know more specifics or some type of hints for the hall of monuments because there's no better time to start preparing then now.

remember, they've been very candid with most things in the developement of the game so far so they could get player ideas and feedback before implementation (of course, somethings have gone horribly wrong in the past, but they have a good batting average so far0

I'm still very intrigued on the hall of monuments and would want some info on it.

For those who complain about no level cap, here's what I think ANet will do...
1) flatten the levelling curve, so the higher you get, you get vastly less benefit from extra levels (confirmed), possibly from high-level weapons and equipment as well,
and
2) attribute caps or flattening, so that you can't infinitely increase the potency of your skills
For example, if say in GW1 they wanted to implement this, they would keep the max of 12 per attribute (cost of 97 attribute points), which you can max out at clvl 16 for 1 attribute, and at clvl 20 for 2 attributes (including attribute quests). At higher clvl's you could max out a 3rd one, and then later on a 4th one. This means that higher level characters have greater flexibility in how they combine their skills, but not that individual skills are stronger.
This would require re-balancing in GW1, so it will not be done there, but would be relatively easy to implement in GW2 where this possibility is implemented off-the-bat.
I'm also against mindless grinding, but I liked what GW1 offered, and I think the system above could also work well, as you could still have strong competitive builds based on 2-3 maxed attributes, on par with those who have builds requiring 5-6 maxed attributes.

I know it is to many, a love or hate situation concerning GW2. I find myself in the love end. I was practically drooling as I read the OP to a friend and fellow GW player at my work.
If they pull all this off w/o going to a monthly fee, they will potentially crush the competition. All I can say is: AWESOME!

Well, form what i've heard/read until now (Note: Still yet to read the actual magazine article) GW's was planning on putting all thier ideas into GW1, but hit a road block. they figured all this great content is way to much to add into the already released campaigns and it would just be completly overwhelming. so instead of "Bloating" the current campaigns they decided, wth, lets just start it from scratch! so this is where they are, taking ideas from most of the top MMO's out there and including them into GW2, but note, like they said, GW2 will keep several elements from GW1. so with that you can pretty much gaurentee your 8 slot builds which has basically made GW's engenuity what it is today. there still is a balanced PvP areas where everyone is the same level... but there is also one where you can play with your PvE charector at whatever level they are currently at. so getting owned by people 20 levels over you is all up to you.
GW2 seems like it will finally cater to the hungering PvE players that have been playing for so long. you do have to admit, even with PvE elements, GW1 leads you to PvP, but with GW2 and the increased level cap, meeting players outside of outposts and random world events.. well damn, what more can an PvE/RP Player ask for? Swimming, Jumping? hell yeah! comon, tell me you didnt want that!
The new races will also add alot of intrest to the PvE charectors, and well with mention of special racial skills PvP players as well. but this will make playing threw the story line that much better.
also they said something about certain skills have more effectiveness in certain situations? first thing ill test is a Galrath slash on a monster after i've jumped from a 20ft cliff. wonder if it'd die instantly... wonder if i would die from the fall.... so much to try..
its basically like your old GW1, but just has stuff that the PvE players who enjoy just playing around on thier charector will finally have something to sink thier teeth into.
i dont know why people complain about lvl 100 being high and only kids that play 14 hours a day will ever get it and it will be a huge grind fest, etc etc etc.. it takes how long to get to 20 in GW? well.. that basically depends on which campaign your playing but seriously.. it does not take months.. not at all. level 20 is far too easy to reach. level 100, well there ya go, thats something to work for. and people assume you have to grind mobs to level up... have ya guys forgot about quests? ya know.. the objectives that put a little green arrow on your map telling you where to go... ya dont even have to read the quest log for crying out loud. thoose quests and missions get ya to lvl 20.. not once in the game is it nessasary to "Grind". Just expect more quests and missions before ya reach the end of the game.
imo, this game is going to have me excited for the next few years, and i cant wait to give the beta a shot. oh and like everyone has said a 1,000 times before.. its free.. thats honestly the best thing you can ask for. "Why, ill just go play WoW!" well, if ya dont mind feeling like an idiot paying about 30-40$ every 2 months to play a game with not as brilliant graphics as GW1, then well go play it. but dont get me wrong, i play WoW as well, actualy i play it more then GW's now, but thats because im a PvE player at heart and i've burnt out on beating the same story lines and waiting 6 months to a year for the next one ill beat in like a month to only have to wait a long time for the next one. alot of players have been asking for this, for a long time. Arena.net has listened to everyone, making it a game they and us can enjoy. if there is something no one likes in GW2, then im sure Arena.net will step up and improve it. they make a game for them and for everyone else.. they play the exact same game we're playing. they aint gonna screw it up.
GW Factions for example... complete and utter crap... you could get lvl 20 in like a day, the story line had plot holes out the wazzo, the only great thing it had in it was the AB Battles, which were amazing. then Anet seen what they did wrong and came out with Nightfall, which i thought was amazing, the first story line to actually finish without 1,000 bloody questions, and the getting to level 20 atleast took a week (for the non hardcore players... ya know what im talking about Psycho's..)
im sure Anet will make GW2 a great hit in 2009-2010 and im definatly buying it. there's my 2 cents picking up the magazine tomorrow, so ill be updated with everyone else then

Anyone having trouble finding the magazine? I have tried all of the Barnes & Nobles and EB Game locations and still can't find the damn thing. Anywhere else I should look but havent?
Theus
Have you tried Pharmacies and Super Markets?
Thats where I usually find copies of Magazines I want.

i got my copy of the mag over the weekend and I don't believe this was pointed out. When Eye of the North comes out not GW our current char will start to regain levels and possibly attributes anyway i thought i would point this out as I don't think it was talked much about.

I can already see "DrG Group LF Bonder L250++ Only!!!!!!!!!" Texts. /Sigh
It will act like "ranks" we have in pvp now. Peeps will always look for xx+++ Levels. Even if wont give any advantage or Attribute points.
To me, its already Gring Wars with all that titles (which they said they wont ever give advantage over others) and ranks (Iway grp LF OoB and IwayW R12+ only!). Blah Blah Blah.
I cant say anything about Guild Wars 2(or GW:EN) -yet. But from how it looks and how Anet acts, it seems I am not going to buy Guild Wars 2. Why should i bother with a company that canceled promised products.

It'd be nice if they added alot of content to the PvE players.. im talking about the smallers things. the emotes always gave me hours of entertainment but they're so boring compared to the Voice Emotes in WoW. i'd like it if they add some more umph to em and variety.
Other things that'd be cool is some form of transports to get across the persitence world like horses and such, gets you places faster and its fun.
i'd absoulutly love it if they gave Rangers a free targeting system for thier bows so you can actually aim your shots at people. this would also be good for PvP because of the different armor stats one could have, you can aim for thier weakspot.
personally myself, i'd like to see a nice overhaul on Rangers, like i said above give them the ability to aim thier shots via a targeting system and also make pets bloody useful lol. give them thier own skill bar (Revive Pet, Have a pet skill, and other pet attacks) and make them actually strong, to make up for the ranger may be able to miss his target now and then. have little things like.. the long you hold your shot the harder it hits for. i personally think that would make Ranger a really fun class to play and kind of break away from the "Cripple and run like hell" tactic.
Warriors shields can actually block.. or anyone using a shield for that matter. have a block skill where you put your shield infront and defend yourself. (this would result in you not being able to hit them) but they can still hit ya in parts where you are not gaurded, or your taking recoil damage from the hits on the shield.
Assassins have stealth but i think they'd be a little.. overpowered lol. but it would still be fun to see and it would make assassin soooo fun .
Mesmers would just be nifty if you could actually cast illusions on enemies (make them see something that aint there.. ie.. they are swinging at nothing. or just random fun skills to make the enemy to see you as like a 20ft Dragon or something. no real devistating effect other then to startle them for a second.
Elementalists actually get damage Buffs/Debuffs depending on thier enviorment. hmm.. like hot areas such as Volcanos and deserts have a effect to Increase Fire Dmg and Decrease Water Dmg. if you cast a spell in the water it has a 50% casting time or Inc Dmg also.. if you use earth spells in an area with mountains or canyons.. you get effects to your earth magic.. that kinda stuff. i think it would alot of advantage points in battles making it a little more strategic. it'd be intresting to lure mobs into a canyon so you can have increased earth spells and just beat the crap out of it.
Necromancer is basically great as it is.. but i want some more Flesh Golem like creatures with different effects. like the bone horrors or something.. w/e the one that makes people bleed... lets see some giant Undead winged demon that can cast its own spells, or a Bone Dragon.. or actual skeletal warriors kinda like Bone Fiends. make more variety in the death magic tree. have a big bad ass undead summon that requries 3 dead bodies and a 10 second cast.
if they actually allowed climbing of tree's.. my god.. you have no ideas how many hours i will spend in tree's rofl. it'd be awesome if they gave ya a Knap Sack and a Harness and you can go scale a cliff :d (not nessasary at all but think that'd be another thing that'd i'd be spending countless hours on. i would love it if Guild Wars improved thier Breath taking enviorments by allowing us to fully utalize these options. if you think about it.. combining many different types of games, including non MMO/RPG like Mountain Climbing and w/e would be appropriate for the game's day and age would be a nice addition.
and lets see some Professions, wooooo! (Armor Crafting, Potion Making, etc etc)
even if any of the stuff listed here was only usable in PvE, this would be just fine with me :P
ya, i know this would even take tons of work to implement such things but even if it got released in an expansion a year later, i still think it would be great to have. Lets hope they make this game as much PvE as it is PvP.

all of you people are complaining about GW2 did you ever realize you guys keep saying how bad the level cap is.....
well i agree with you people that there should not be an unlimited lvl cap.... but i think it should be raised until 40 so there will be more of a "race".
i think as well that Arena Net should do a way that it will be hard to gain xp.... not just by questing and missioning so the skill will have affect on your level gaining.
I think GW2 will be great and i cant wait for it but it could be better with a level cap of no unlimited or 100 (although A Net never said that it will be it).... the only thing i would like is that MONEY WILL BE SHARED.... i farmed and saved ages so i can have sometime in the next GW some cash... but now they are saying we need to throw the cash into the bin,,,,,
though i trust Arena net to do the work and bring us a hell of a game!!
btw.. will it really come out only in 2009?!?!

I have spent a very long time reading the last 2098 posts.
After seeing just about every perspective, this is my own:
Guild Wars 2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been playing Guild Wars for almost 1.5 years now, and so far Guild Wars, with the exception of a few annoyances, been an excellent game. I have little choice but to place my wholehearted faith in areanet.
Character loss: I am apprehensive about losing my characters, but I have no quarrels with starting a clean slate.
Monuments and Item Transfer: When someone here commented here about the wedding dress, I hope that it got Gaile's attention. It was a touching note. This is my opinion on transerables:
Armour: Definately yes. I would love to see my Noble Armour in totally stunning graphics.
Weapons: Yes please. But customised. Might as well be fair on the economy.
Titles: This doesn't bother me, but yes I suppose it's not too bad to transfer it.
Quest Completion: No... what is the point really?
Money: No way. Too much of an unfair advantage.
Mini Pets: Yes, but untradable please.
Level Cap: I think a lot of players will agree that we are so accustomed to everyone being equal level that we are uncomfortable with the idea. Elitists will use this as an excuse to subjegate pve in some respects, something I am not looking foward to. I'm unsure about the sidekick system.
Races: /gets_on_knees_and_prays. Please allow the diversity in humans to continue for all races. A lot of people here abhore the idea of race class specificity: say if all Norns were melle and all Sylvarians were spellcasters. If the other races were equal to humans in how they could develop (total free reign basically) this would persuade me to make non-human characters in GW2.
Persistance: I have debated this with my online friends, and there are advantages and disadvantages with what areanet describes as "world pvp". Is PKing such a good thing? I would be upset to see instances go, I like the privacy.
Z angle: Excellent. Everyone can agree on how annoying it is in Thunderhead Keep to be attacked by a Jade armour... that is below you as you stand on a bridge. Other such bugs caused by no Z angle are a nusience.
No click-to-move and other movement alterations: This I am not so enthusiastic about. It's simple. it's easy, it works. I don't want to have to jump up and down or do piroettes just to cast a spell. We will see.
Guild Wars: Eye of the North
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monument Creation:I hope it's like the sims
No new classes: A shame, I don't think 10 is enough, I love new classes myself.
Dungeons: Fabulous! I love the dungeons in .hack, and the catacoumbs blew me away. Please areanet, do so again.
The Return of Gwen: Is she a hero? The Great Destroyer? Who knows.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am rather displeased that the magazine is somewhat delayed... I have a week or so to wait (I am in the UK). I shall collect one asap. After that, all one can do is wait and see what areanet can do. Please areanet, do what you do best.

Will we still be able to play as humans? I don't wanna be another race, thats why I like guildwars
Neriandal Freit
Yeah, we can still play as humans in the Guildwars 2 game. It's Human, CHarr, Norns, Sylvari and Asura's are the five known ones at this time.
There is much speculation about the other remaining races, likely three more in my view, to which we can play.

Actually, I think it would be even cooler to make it an Elite and have the Dragon actually count as a summoned creature (with HP degen or other timer), that could take and deal damage.

Man, I really hope that you will be able to transfer weapons, armor and so on...
The thought of not being able to do so kinda makes ya wanna stop collecting stuff since you wont be able to use them later anyway.

um.
i got a question.
we can't transfer characters from GW1 to GW2, right?
well i remember reading something at guildwars.com that in order to play GW2, you need one of the three previous games.
whats the point?
or am i just wrong about reading that?

GW:EotN is Guild Wars: Eye of the North, the expansion that requires at least one Guild Wars campaign.
GW2 is a whole separate game sequel taking place 250 years in Tyria's future and the only thing that can be "carried over" will be some player titles via the Hall of Monuments.

ah~
so GW:EN was GW: Eye Of The North, lol was wondering what GW:EN was.
so is GW:EN like factions and nightfall?
EDIT: nvm, found out the info .

The Hall of Monuments will not only allow special titles, but also "...access to ...companions , weapons, attire, and miniatures. These inherited items are unique: there is no other way within Guild Wars 2 to acquire them."

I am really disappointed that I couldn’t find this magazine anywhere, sure this information was great for me and my friends, but having my own copy would have been better, over that last month I think I looked everywhere a magazine could had been. Do you guys know if I can still get/find it?
Nevertheless I can’t wait for GW2, but I found it a large risk to switch to a sequel so fast.
(Sorry if I posted to late, but I was interested in joining here and talking about this.)

Quite a lot there and not that long to be honest
Besides, Mike Gills didn't rule out more GW1 expansions, he just said that there were none planned right now

Just expect more quests and missions before ya reach the end of the game.

As for lvling, it took me forever...just to get to 20! So when i heard about the lvl 100 cap I was soo dissapointed. I believe that they will try to give "both sides" an advantage. I'm speculating that they will have the max attributes at lvl 20 like right now, but the people who transcends lvl 20 will just get more"priviliges?" to unlocking cooler armor or something that doesn't accomodate to skill or things that improves power.
I've tried the Wow trial to see if I would acknowledge the fact that they have a lot of quests and a high lvl cap...and I abominated it. Everysingle quest that I do(in WoW and GW) is boring and WoW's lvl thing is just too much. I got to like lvl 8 in that game and quit. I'm just saying that some of us ppl just hate the quests and grinding or we just don't have the time.

WRONG
the top people designing the game have already shot that idea down so hard it is obvious you have not read their interviews the *STRONG SIDEKICK SYSTEM* will allow a lesser level lower powered player the opportunity to adventure with a higher levl higher power friend.
you dont need to sidekich someone because they have spiffier looking armor.
new game
100+level maybe even possibly no cap at all from the interviews with the head designers

The high lvl cap is dreaded, unless after a certain lvl its just for bragging rights with minor advantages, like how the lightbringer titles work. The fact that everyones equal adds alot of depth, that is, if they leave the skill system in place.
Does anyone know if that will change. Will everyone have all skills at all times, or will it be like now where you create your own 'build'. I played WoW for a little bit but it got really old because its missing so much, and the next guy is the same as you. Can someone let me know if the 8 skills will stay the system? Thanks.
Oh and by the way, builds are what make other people unique, so stop asking me to ping my build. I create my own builds and dont really want the next guy copying it. Lets go back to when i could say I'm a healer or prot, and leave it at that.
