Feelings about moving from GW1 to GW2
thelegendozelda
Hello,
I would like everyone to share how they feel about moving from GW1 to GW2, without there current characters.
Do you feel it is useless to keep going for that cetain title?
That set of FoW armor? (or other armor)
Useless to gain any more fame, glad points, anything?
Or.
Are you happy that now everyone will have a chance to "start fresh"
New titles to get (guessing)
Better pvp(guessing)
better PVE(guessing)
EDIT: AS FOXBAT STATES BELOW, this isnt a poll, or speculation thread, this is FACT from the recent PC gamer Information

Didn't we already have a locked poll on this issue?

I don't see it as "moving from ......", but as starting a new game with new characters.

Considering that, as per the posts in the PC Gamer thread, it's mentioned that Guild Wars 1 will continue to be supported... I don't see how not being able to do a complete port to Guild Wars 2 affects players at all, any moreso than if Guild Wars 2 never would exist.

At first, i didn't like the idea of my beloved characters becoming useless. And the level cap made me go "omg it turned into WoW!!". But thinking it over, i'm already doing a lot of grind as it is ust to map three continents for seven characters and giving them all mighty lightbringer.
Jumping, swimming and maybe even flying would be nice too, as long as they keep the equal footed PVP intact i have no problem with high level caps. (or no level cap at all...)

The idea of rebuilding Guild Wars from the ground up opens a lot of possibility and I'm excited about it, I mean after a while I think most people will become bored with the a rut of expansions. But the way Anet gets its money is from those expansions so they can provide us with free online pay, so the only thing I'm worried about is the closing of the old Guild Wars servers after they stop bringing in money for them.

Exactly. They haven't said(yet) that they are going to shut down the servers for the current guild wars when gw:2 gets here. So, you should be able to still play with your current characters. As far as creating new characters in gw:2, just think of the roleplaying and nostalgic factors. Your new character could be a decendant of your old one(assuming you create a human character). The way the article sounds, and from some of Gaile's comments, it seems as if you will get some benefit from being a gw:1 veteran(Hall of Monuments, although I'm not completely sure what this will do for you. I haven't read the article myself). I'm excited about this concept and I think it will be a fun story to play out.

If we cant move our characters/money/armors/weapons on GW2. Then nows the best time play WoW.
To be honest, thats how i feel.
Edit: I think GW2 will not inspire new people to play. It will just make some people play WoW or other MMORPGs. Thats my opinion. But, my opinion doesnt matter anyway.

Kind of "irked" about it. I have been playing my Necromancer since release of Chapter 1, and all those Holiday hats...

Allow me to sum up my and I'm sure most people's feeling in one go:
"every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end"
GW2 will be a start of new things, moving on is just the way things are. Till that time, I'm just going to continue to play GW1 as normal.

I for one, have mixed feelings.....
Yea of course i want to take my guys over and not loose my hard work, but at the same time i cant wait to start a new guy just to have the same feeling as i did when i started GW 1

So yeah, do you people that are so upset or worried get like this EVERY time you stop playing one game and start another? As wonderful as GW is, I knew when I bought it I wouldn't be playing it for more than a few years at the extreme best. Thats just the nature of reality, you know?
(No offence meant to you people still out there still playing Pong and loving it)

I don't mind not being able to take my characters with me, but I'd like to know what's going on with money. Like they mentioned being able to carry over weapons (and GWO said possibly armor..), so might that not extend to items in general and even money itself? I wouldn't mind if money didn't carry over, I'd just like to know. Like if it didn't carry over, I'd probably blow all my GW1 cash to commission some really nice pics of my characters. If it did carry over, I'd feel retarded for wasting my money.
It most logically wouldn't carry over, but there's still that slight uncertainty....

I hope i can have a statue of my current monk in GW2.

Well well. It all seems quite interesting if you ask me (I won't post in the chaotic monster of a thread). Some of the ideas are cool. Some seem pointless (jumping?).
Anet as a developer seem to know what they are doing when it comes to general balance, so I hope the level cap removal won't result in a plague of areas that are either boring for level 100's or impossible for level -50's. I guess we wait and see what happens.
However... 2 years? That is a very long time. Around as long as Guild Wars has existed for. Will they're market still exist? I know what development schedules are like (the chance of slippage is usually high), so it could easily be longer than that.

If money carried over, it would either
A) Be mostly worthless due to higher inflation in GW2
B) Destroy GW2's economy by causing inflation since it's easier to make money in GW1 and port it over.
So... yeah.

I will miss ONE of my characters and thats my ele, Circling Skies. She is my main character. All the others have just become mules holding things I will never use and probably never sell unless its to a merchant. I will miss her but I plan on creating Circling Skies version 2.0 for GW2 so in that way she will live on.

As long as I can create a likeness to my Necromancer in GW2, I'm fine. Also, they should allow people that have regular GW to reserve a character name for GW2 if they choose to.
I also hope they come out with what that Monument carries over to GW2 soon so I don't waste my time on things I don't need.

in one of the quotes in Inde's Thread Gaile states, Gold will not be able to port over to GW2, basically she says nothing will.....except the "hall of mounments" maybe a zoo showing all the old toons? lol

I'm pretty bummed. My view will definitely shift towards just enjoying the content instead of persuing any long-term goals.
If GW2 is going to be so radically different from GW, and more like traditional MMO's (high level cap, non-instanced areas, multiple races) I don't feel absolutely compelled to make it my next major game hobby.
I'll start looking at some other games, see how I feel when GW2 rolls around. 2009 is a long ways off. I'm glad we'll get Eye of the North as a last hoorah.

That's exactly what I plan to do with my favourite character, who also happens to be an ele.

I have no troubles moving from GW1 to GW2.... Then again going PvP only helps 'cause there's less attachment and less investment in the character.
For the PvP community, I think this change will be like a move from Quake I to Quake II to Quake III. For the PvE community, this change will probably be like the move from Baldur's Gate to Neverwinter Nights - i.e. the lack of character transfer, but still a great change nonetheless.

I am not all too happy about GW2.Unless i get intresting reason to buy GW2 ill stick with GW1.If itll be like KOTOR 1 and 2 then it wont be much fun.

Personally, I think they released the info on Guild Wars 2 a bit too quick. The news should have come after the release of the next expansion. By informing people this soon, it has to hurt their sales numbers on the new expansion.
To stay a bit on topic here, I doubt I'll transition from Guild Wars to Guild Wars 2. I'm taking the "end of Guild Wars" as a sign for me to move on and do something new.

Chewbacca Defense
Although some may see this as a bad thing, a large majority of players may move from GW1 to GW2. There are several bonuses for this for those that remain with GW1.
Benefits:
- Lag may be reduced
- Elitism may be reduced
- General griefer population will also be reduced
The downside is:
- Skill updates will most likely be reduced, thus creating a stagnant environment.
- Cost of items/resources will increase due to stagnant economy.

- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is released this week.
- Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will be released around the same time as GW:EotN
- Team Fortress 2 will finally be released as well.

Its sad to know that you are playing a doomed game
If i cant transfer my achievements like fame, monney, titles and armor im not going to play gw2.
Its still long until gw2 so im going to have fun with gw1 as long as it lasts

I look forward to the transition, and I don't mind keeping all my things in GW1 behind.

I have mixed feelings which is what I feel everyone is having. I think I'm just going to try to have fun and not worry too much about looks anymore (just bought my sin vabbi armor too ).
I hope that the transition will be for the better.

It may come as a shock to some but I really really dont want gold or materials transfered over to GW2. So much so I would not buy it if it happened.
GW 2 is not an expansion pack to GW 1 it is an entirely new game. And with new games they usually start from scratch. A new game where you can import characters, items, gold, titles etc really would not be a new game but a glorified expansion.
With higher levels one would assume the max al, dmg, energy etc would all increase. This would make FOW pointless and items pointless too.
I am very very excited about GW 2 and starting with nothing. I love the graphics and item designs over other mmorpg's i.e. WoW. For me I loved trading back in 2005 early 2006 and GW 2 will allow me to experience a brand new economy.
O and for all those crying about losing gold. New economies and unnerfed farming allows you to get rich very quickly. Look at what happened in GW1; UW Farming, Griffon Farming, Lost Strongbox, Avid Sea Chests, Trader Reset etc.

To me it pretty much comes down to this: "Why did I pick up Guild Wars in the first place?"
It wasnt so I could have a character with the best armor, the best weapons, and the most gold. Really I could have cared less. What I wanted was a fun GAME that I could play that allowed me to interact with other people without having to pay ridiculous monthly fees. In Guild Wars I found this and eventually a lot more. Perhaps this "a lot more" included awesome armor, tons of cool weapons, and a lot of gold, but it was extra. In Guild Wars 2 I havent lost any of my reasons for buying Guild Wars in the first place. Armor, weapons, and gold mean little to me. And how little of a sacrifice is it to lose those material possessions if you gain much higher quality PvP and PvE? Little to none. I sure hope it doesnt become like WoW, but from hearing what Gaile has said she has apparently played games like WoW and is determined not to have Guild Wars 2 turn out like them. As long as elitism is at an all time low Guild Wars 2 is going to get me as excited as Guild Wars 1.

One thing: The Hall of Monuments better be a HUGE thing.
Aerian_Skybane
To me, I dont care one bit. New stuff is fun. I am still having a blast in Guild Wars, and unlike the whiners, it seems I actually didn't make Guild Wars my 4th job (yes I hold down three). I play it for, ZOMG!!! fun!
Character transfers make no sense. They are really surprising me with having the Hall of something or other implemented. Tells us they are listening to you whiners, but they wont cave to ruin the progress of Guild Wars when they know (usually) better than the general masses of what is and isn't possible or desirable.
The ONLY thing I would be appreciative of is if they allow us to carry over our names at least. I would love to keep at least Aerian's name alive, as a great grandson or something lol. Then again, that's only if I play as human to start .

I dont mind leaving my GW1 chars behind in GW2, a fresh start/completely new game is needed otherwise it'll just run out of steam like Nightfall has for so many players.
I hope GW:EN offers more in the meantime.
I just feel sorry for the ebaybotters who will be out of work when the games released - wait no I dont....

I'm looking forward to enjoying both games. Since Gaile confirmed that the GW 1 servers won't be shut down when GW2 coems along, I will probably pick up GW2, re-create my favorite characters, and start fresh there. I'll probably ALSO continue playing GW 1 because I've come to really enjoy the game. ANet isn't forcing us into "one or the other" and until they do shut down the servers, I'll enjoy both.

GW 2 is gonna rock!
I don't mind having a fresh start again, besides, I won't actually lose my old characters in GW 1 ^^
