I'd be perfectly happy if I could reserve my char's name for GW2. Not that I think somebody might want it, but just to be sure.
Other than that... It's a new game, so I'll be happy to start anew. Besides, it's still at least two years before GW2 comes. Still plenty of time to have fun with my chars in GW.

I've mixed feelings about GW2; it's exciting, but I'm one of those people will miss certain things.

Here's what I would personally like to see:

-Character transition between GW1 and GW2 both to and from
-Albeit while some people thinks this hinders the game, I'm not so sure if it's done correctly. IMO, characters being able to travel freely just means that you can play with two different systems with two different sets of rules, gameplay, graphics, goals, etc. Most likely, however, this won't happen.
-Therefore I'd like to see the transfer of customized weapons, armor, and titles. Since all of these are personalized to an individual character/account, it would not effect the new game's economy at all. Some brainstorming would have to be done on how to handle the transferal, but there's 2 years to come up with a good system to ensure safety from abuse and advantages.
-I feel that this is a good compromise. It does not effect any other person but the player itself. It's the player's choich how he/she handles this. People who wish to play with veterans, will play with veterans, and vice versa, so the prejudices associated with this implementation will most likely be present anyway.
- The proffession system. That includes all 10 classes with the primary attribute and secondaries. And also, please don't make certain proffessions tied to certain races. Preferably, I'd also like to not have race stats. It would cause preferences given to certain class/race combinations. I.e. char warrior is better than an asura warrior.

- The eight-slots on the skill bar.

- More emotes. Anyone ever played one of the ironrealm text-based games? They have tons more emotes than the current GW and the ability to apply targets to them as well. /jump Alain jumps. /jump target Alain jumps on target.

- Better map travel. Anyone else tired of having to first go to KC, LA, or Kamadan to reach an area?

- Guild PVE Content reserved for parties made mostly out of guild mates.

- Alliances with the ability to access a guild's roster.

- Updated friend's list that displays when one last logged in and the ability to insert notes beside each name.

- Interactive environments with realistic weather, day/night (not tied to actual RL times), and ability to influence the area (meteor shower-ish spell causes trees to fall and catch on fire, etc.) through actions that can cause positive or negative effects (the trees on fire can catch you on fire).

- PVP controlled environments. I personally like how HA effects access to FOW and UW, as it seems more realistic to me. However, it is also unfair to areas that rarely hold hall, so friday through sunday should be open access.

If GW2 were to be released in the next few months, I wouldn't put it on my list of games to buy. From what is revealed now, its not something that would appeal to me. I'm mainly a pvp player and I enjoy the pvp of guild wars. From what was hinted about GW2, it seems like its headed in the direction that many other MMOs have already taken.

World pvp sounds like alliance battles to the 10th power. Where will the skill in that be?? Anyone that is learned in pvp knows tha alliance battles require little to no skill to participate in. Theres no synergy involved whatsoever. Is that what we can expect from this "world" pvp?

For now, the game is 2 years away, so I will not make my final judgment whether I would get the game or not. Alot can change over 2 years, heck, GW2 could get cancelled like the campaigns did in that amount of time(not likely, but you never know in the industry). I'll play the wait and see game.

Several of the things I enjoyed most about starting the first chapter of Guild Wars was the sense of discovery (skills, monsters, environments, etc), the cooperative nature of most of the community, and the distinct absence of elitism as everyone was on the same footing.

Guild Wars continues to be fun for me, but I’d sure look forward to the freshness of a new chapter where these experiences can be rekindled, at least for a lil’ bit… before the game gets jaded with runs, ferrying, exploits, money making schemes, and scams.

actually, in a way, I am...

sounds harsh, but actually, with some of the lil tidbits of info that have slowly been bubbling to the surface and quickly sinking again, its starting to sound very cool

especially if we can use the same account and guild info will carry over etc... It will then be a true progression for the game, rather than a truely fresh start

Like the immortal words of Sam Fisher (if you played Splinter Cell) I'm too old for this shit *kidding*

I believe that having new changes will refresh the GW franchise and by redoing everything instead of making a Chapter 5, it will give players new places to explore not to mention new storyline and items to get. As for transferring items or gold into GW2, why would you bother to do so? I mean you are in a new world so basically you have to start off in the noob level. Beside, I don't think anything from chapter 1 to 4 will be transfer into GW2 since it's a complete new engine and storyline.

Don't really care about not being able to transfer my Guild Wars 1 characters to Guild Wars 2. The new Guild Wars game is going to be something completely different than the first game, I'm looking forward to the fresh start at the new game. Besides, I'll still be able to play on my Guild Wars 1 characters after the release of Guild Wars 2.
For now I'm just going to keep playing and enjoying the current Guild Wars.=P

I'd wager that the main reason we won't be able to port players from GW1 to GW2 is because they will change the core professions -- perhaps drastically.

It would be really nice if they could let us at least port the look of our characters, or have the same face/hairstyle/skin color options so that we can remake our characters... I doubt it though. (for those old folks here, even the old Ultima games let you port characters, even though the "professions" changed!)

Personally, in the end I'll have no problem making a new character from scratch (assuming GW2 ends up being fun -- but that's another issue)...

... but knowing that my current GW1 characters are "doomed" makes me want to play less -- I agree that this feeling is a bit irrational... all games come to an end -- but I suppose that there's a psychological difference between knowing the end will come eventually and knowing exactly when it will come.

I myself suddenly feel less interested in GW and GW:EN... it's hard to get motivated to deal with things you know are obsolete, or soon to be obsolete.

I think it was a mistake for Anet to make this announcement so early -- it's a long wait for GW2 with only 1 expansion left ... with people knowing the end of GW1 is at hand, I think many people wil lose interest and move on.

by the way... jumping? what's the deal with that? that gives me a bad feeling about GW2.

I don’t want my current characters in the new game. They wouldn’t fit in and would limit Anet to creating a character mold that supported old ideas. I want something fresh in the next game, not reused.

Like Kenru stated....... i also like to see the transfer of weapon too.... which i dont think will effect the economy cuz they ssaid gw 2 is set hundred off years later (right?) so the weapon skin in the new game will be different (hopefully at least).... so being able to tranfser weapon from gw1 will be pretty nice to see ; it be like atifact from the past and but gold on the other hand would probably effect the economy so at least weapons transfer would be nice to see .. it would be way to see that wont los e evereything from gw1 going to gw2

There are fundamental flaws with GW1 that GW2 will address. If you allow porting of characters, then you would have to bring some of those flaws into the new game. For example, GW2 will probably have all the skills completely reworked, especially now that there is a true z-axis. All the skills must be completely changed and reworked because the AI will be different, the mechanics will be different... It's not worth it for them to redesign and balance all the existing GW1 skills. A fresh start in GW2 allows them to keep what they want, and delete what they want. It is the only way to make sure that they get rid of any fundamental problems in GW1 that was difficult to correct.

I have some sadness in the thought that I wont be able to bring Shan over. But she's due an Arthurian End, in her avalon waiting for when Tyria needs her the most to be reborn.

On a serious thought, will they even have the same professions as now. Maybe in GW2 there will be no place for mesmers(it would solve the mesmer in pve issue), Assasins and all the other classes.

The game is still two years away and even now some people are reacting as though it's the end of the world.

Just because AN says at the moment you wont be able to take your char across does not mean you wont ever be able to. If the demand is high enough there is enough time to change the design. But I really suspect that they want to put the development time into GW2 not having to re model every item, armor, face and hairstyle in GW1 just so we can transfer a char over.

Besides, after 4 RL years and probably 10-15 years of game time, Shan might be looking forward to a nice new body.

Here's some good news for you guys.

We do completely understand that you want to keep your character names. After all, character names are a special part of your Guild Wars experience. So you'll be happy to know that yes, your character name will be reserved for you. If you link a Guild Wars 2 character to a Guild Wars character, the GW2 character will inherit the GW character’s accomplishments, as recorded in your Hall of Monuments. The Hall of Monuments, available through Guild Wars: Eye of the North, will provide access to unique companions, equipment, miniatures, titles, etc. that can’t be obtained any other way in GW2.

I like the whole idea of building a "family history" for my characters in The Hall of Monuments. With the timespan between Guild Wars: Eye of the North and Guild Wars 2, the whole idea that other players have suggested--passing things (even names) down "through the family" and so forth--is cool!

Thats good news Gaile, as like you say the names we chose do mean something to us, and the possibilty of someone "impersonating" us would upset a large number of players.

Wow - Hall of Monuments provide unique companions, equipment, miniatures, titles, etc.

This is better than I thought it would be... guess I need to get some titles or something....

I'm excited about Guild Wars 2. I'm excited about the Beta (missed the original Beta), excited about the new races, even excited about the persistant bits.

The reason that alliance battles require little to no skill to participate in(at least according to you) is because at most you can have a guild group of 4 working together. If I read it right in World PvP you can hop in and out whenever you want to with unlimited amounts of people. If thats true (not 100%) then you could have an entire 100 person guild join at the same time. Assuming that the skill structure was the same, you could have synergy between 100 skill bars. That would be amazing.

And as for Gaile's comment. She said that

This seems to hint to me that there WILL be the same classes seeing as I dont think it would be easy to make warrior armor equipable on a new class. I automatically seem to include weapons in the etc. part of that quote which seems to me that attributes will be the same. I dont have much of an opinion on this but thats just my 10 cents.

Great news about the inheritance, worked too hard on my pve and pvp titles to have hated to see them wasted. Just hope it works out this way.

I do feel sad that ill have to give up on my character, and everything, i do feel that it is useless to continue playing with my characters now, ill just play once in a while to play arenas and etc.

I imagined they would add a feature that you could take your character to Gw2, since both games belong to the same universe (not like Final Fantasy for example).
I gave an idea that after beating Eye of the North one god would come to you and say that you are no longer required at this time, and that they would require your aid once more 200 years later.

But that can be a little complicated, since the game will no longer be based on level 20 charaters, probably will no longer have the same armor level, status, mechanics.
At the end, you will only take your skin and your name, your items and etc will be useless.
Might be too much work for something so... replaceble.

I'm sure everyone has some attachment to their GW characters so it's understandable why they dont want to leave them behind. I dont want to either BUT I can completely live with starting fresh and actually look forward to it.

I just hope that while a lot of things are different than also there are things that are the same from GW. I hope they bring back all the professions from GW. I hope the way each profession plays is similar. I'd hate to see any of the professions changed so drastically that it's no longer the version we saw from GW.

Basically, I'd like to be playing a new improved GW rather than a completely different GW.

Thanks Gaile, thats fantastic news.

How does the name reservation thing work. E.g My GW account has a character called Shanaeri Rynale on it. Does that mean that no one else can use that name in GW2 UNLESS it's linked to a GW1 account with a character of that name.

Also Are guild name going to be reserved in the same way. E.g you cant create a guild of the same name unless you are the guild leader in GW 1 of that guild.

Thirdly, How will your hall of monuments be updated. If I got an extra title on Shan, would that be reflected in resurrected Shan? Same goes for the minature of your character. Does it change armor according to the last saved state of a GW 1 char. Or do you have to 'lock' a GW char so it has a fixed state and appearance?

One final question. All the goodies mini-shans etc, are they only going to be in GW2 or can we use them in GWeN

I think it is incredibly generous of Anet to even include the Hall of Monuments for GW:EN, something they've done only for the current players.

Actually, after thinking some more I find even the idea of transfering the titles somewhat less appealing than before. I was looking forward to starting fresh, without any disadvantages. But if titles gained through fame are going to transfer over there will be rank discrimination right from the start.

What I'm scared of is the elitism taht might be in GW2 right from the start. I figured I'd do some PvP at the beginning, to get the GW2 equivalent of rank 3. But i fear that i might meet people with PvP titles gained in GW, who will already be in their small, closed world. "You played GW? What rank were you? 2? I feel very sad that I have to give up my characters, especially my Necromancer. I have enjoyed playing my characters 20 months ago and I will continue to enjoy playing them until GW2 comes out. I do wish I can continue playing because I can't see myself not playing my chars but I am willing to try new things and continue playing until the servers die. I am happy that I don't have to worry about my game name going up for grabs once GW2 is released. I look forward to what's in store for GW2 but as for the immediate future, I have my eye on GW:EN. I am glad that we get to have one more expansion before I start over and will be looking forward for the beta.

One problem that I am always worried about is the elitism mentioned in the previous posts. Then again, elitism is everywhere, my motto is: it is not how long you have played the game, it's how you play the game that counts!

I would be so happy if we could visit Ascalon, restored. Not "post-apocalyptic" kinda thing. With lush grass, like presearing. Im very excited to see what Tyria will look like in a couple hundred years. Maybe we will have primitive rifles, cannons, devices? (crazy dwarves :P ) I am VERY excited for GW2, as what i have read, it seems perfect to me.

I pity you I really do. To have such a small minded view of the gw pvp community. Sure there are a few bad eggs that give pvpers a bad name but why should the rest of us be deprived of our hard earned titles? I, like many others, have worked hard and long to get the tiger and sure we may not be able to emote in gw2 but just because you are scared of grouping with imature gamers doesn't mean the rest of us should suffer.
There is nothing stopping you from entering the pvp environment and progressing, build a decent friends list etc. Most pvpers started exactly the same way, working through different groups until finding the right people to play with. The same will be true for gw2, just because people you may party with are imature does not mean you cant pvp. It just means you dont group with those people again.
It takes time and effort, not just in the skills you use but the people you interact with.

You better believe it as I still want FoW armour for my Monk and other sets who maybe from Eye of the North for some of my other characters as well.I saw a Monk that look exactly like mine with FoW armour and it looked good so Yes I do.I will keep doing the exact somethings as I am now in GW1 I may even when I get a chance to so GvG in GW1.I would imagine that would still be going on and what ever else I want to do.

When it comes to GW2 it is a good thing I can't take my chars over as to a balancing issues with armour and skills etc if you ever chose to go back to GW1 anyway I will wait and see.I do hope that there is open beta like last time in 04/05 of beta testing. Then I will be in a better position to Judge GW2 like I did with GW1.

Arena Net better update the content for GW1 from time to time and not forget about it like they said no content for Prophecies after Factions and then Nightfall came out. There is room for improvements for both games so they better keep it up.

I would have to sat a lot of ppl around here are taking things way out pf proportion as to GW2 is concerned just sit back and enjoy GW as GW2 is not even here yet.I am really looking forward to EoN though. Be
