Playable Races in Guild Wars 2...

You shouldn't really be concerned at the moment since the game engine is not even finished yet, let along the content and specifics.

If races are anything more than cosmetic, I probably won't bother with GW2. It'll all depend on what happens at release, since Betas will be absolutely nothing like the finished product, GW1 taught us that lesson.

Shapeshifting sounds like the same as Dervish avatar forms. But I'm gonna try Norns just for the sake of their size. And maybe they've got inherent resistances to elements or something.
Don't you find Asuras scary? And puny? haha

I really hate this race-thingy. This was one of the reasons why I chose GW over WoW.
Now they are coupling different stats and traits with races. I hope at least classes will be race-invariant.

I would LOVE to play a centaur, especially if their thing is speed. Zhed looks so cool running, especially through Cantha.

Hmm, I played humans for such a long time in GW, and I'll still play them there for at least two years, after all, so I don't think I'll make a human character in GW2 (unless I get bored or something, or if their "race specific attributes" turn out to work really well with my playing style or whatever.).
Sylvari and Charr look most interesting to me (I already see people complaining about "oh no, please no elves!", but the Sylvari seem more like spirits of nature than tolkien rip-offs), but the Norns interest me as well..
And if there'll be more playable races than what we've seen so far... maybe a centaur? But Sylvari all the way. <3

Anyway, would I play another race...? Outlook looks bleak on that one. I'm not against there being other races or other people playing them but I think it has to be Human ftw.

Various races make classes/class concepts more appealing and give you flexibility in creating your char. I don't know why you would want humans only? "Realism"? A less bizzare environment than WoW?
I can create black caucasian chars already (Tyria), why would a new race worsen this weirdness?

My character(s) will be just human in Guild Wars 2. Probably wouldn't like to play another race, but having the choice is nice though.

NORN SMASH HUMANS, RRRR. I am going to maul so many people.
Think there'll be any encouragement for racial conflicts? Any incentive for single-race guilds? I'm not saying force these things, DAoC/WoW/WAR PvP is dull, tired, poorly conceived and restricting to the point of frustration, but it could be cool and interesting if done carefully and with good gameplay before superficial balance in mind.

For those who are only playing as humans, why? Not that I'm against it, but the options are there. Arent you going to at least try out the other races?
Arduin
My primary character definately will be human, just because I want her history to carry over to GW2. Don't know about other characters though. I'd might try playing as a Charr, I suppose they will get some nifty armor there

When you're a Charr-Ele you're free to use "lava font" without anyone ever shouting at you for that utter noobishness.

If the expansion packs are related to continents, we can thus assume that Cenataurs will come out with Elona and Tengus will come out with Cantha.
While there are Centaurs in Tyria, Zhed's Veldrunner race seems more viable for customizability.
Of course, we have no idea how the continents will look in the future (GW:EN could trigger a world searing? or something like how Orr disappeared).

The only thing mentioned about classes is they want them to be more "solo capable" so you can play by yourself without an entourage of henchmen. I'd speculate that's important to make forming groups in explorable areas viable.
Giga Strike
my guess is that there will be slight differences in physical stats between the races but the real difference will be the race specific skills. it's been stated that the norn's ability to transform into a bear is an aquired skill so what would the other races have?
god, i hope the charr have a searing version of meteor storm.

Male Charr Warrior \o/ I wonder if all charr speak english and the humans snarl like the charrs do in gw1 :P
Mordakai
I'll be making one of each...
Human Warrior
Charr Shaman
Asura Ranger
Norn "Druid"? (if they have such a Profession...)
Sylvari Mesmer
(assuming all Profession stay the same...
if not, I'm sure I won't have any trouble finding something to play!)

I would be so immensely happy if the following races were also included:
Tengu, Centaur, Forgotten, Dredge, Margonite. Especially the Tengu, Centaur and Forgotten.
I EXTREMELY hope that all professions we've seen in GW1 are available in GW2 to all races... but I would expect that there are some race-specific skills.

A pretty major thing I thought would be whether humans will be portrayed as the jack-of-all-trades. Because in most (if not all) games) the jack of all trade was always the worse cause he/she couldn't do anything properly yet could do everything crappishly.
Quid Pro Quo
Yeah I hope that humans will be pushed in a certain direction or if they are going to be left open a bit they should atleast be able to develope themselves in one way so that they aren't any weaker then another race but also can't do everything just like all the other races.

So far I want to be one of those cute little thingies.. or a Tengu... though turning into a bear would be cool so I'll have to see the model choice first.. but like most have stated, it's really going to come down to what their racial ability is.
Good luck, most games are like that with either specific skills or racial traits. But I'm also certain Gaile or the article said it would not be available in PvP.

Interestingly, it says in the article that ANet is keeping the total number of races under wraps, 'but we did uncover a few secrets about some of them'.
Sorry if this has been mentioned before.

Alsitha Freit - Human Male - Mesmer
Vierita Freit - Human Female - Monk
Sytheria Moonstar - Human Female - Necromancer
Aluriel Silverdawn - Human Female - Ritualist
Volishkar Moonstar - Human Male - Dervish
Those are the characters I intend on having in Guildwars 2. I have already admited that I will likely have a Charr character, but only one. Other playable races will likely involve the Tengu. I doubt anything like the Mursaat, Margonites and Forgotten. Those we can label as "Elite" races and I wouldn't be surprised (and HIGHLY support the idea) if we have to earn some of these races in the game.
The Five Known can simply be the Five Playable At First races. Now that's something to start pondering over. Remember, we've encountered many talkative other races in the game (Centaurs, Tengu, etc.), so begin to look over GuildWiki races to start narrowing down potential races.

I'm gonna find the smallest race, and make a warrior of the smallest possible size of that race, and either carry a big hammer for entertainment value, whilst using other weapons, or just find a big weapon

I'll be making a human necro, a Charr ranger, and a Norn warrior to start off. I'll see what the benefits of each race are first though. I'm thinking a Sylvari ritualist would be cool too. The rest of my characters would probably be human though.
If Dwarves, tengu, and centaurs got in I'd definately make a dwarf (he'd probably be my warrior instead of the norn) and a tengu assassin, and maybe a centaur paragon.

How about playing as a Mursaat?
I'm using Spectral Agony!

Where can we see pictures of these races?

I think I'll try all of them just to see how they act/move/attack/do emotes/etc... Although the asuras are a bit scary psycos!!
But I'm looking forward to making a sylvari cause I love things related to nature/light/magic...
Norns also seem cool for a more physical style of fightning.
Well, I'm rlly rlly excited bout all of the races and the Beta test will be awesome. And yeh I also like the tengu, the centaur and the dwarves as possible options for more races.
