Ha! I love it! I love how Beyonce, diva in real life, translates to diva ingame. Drama becomes you, Beyoncee.
I like how you were the only one using a child in istan... far too many people used Vabbian Children, and that disappointed me a little.
Goodbye for now.

She's in the middle of the plains of jarin, which is on a SAVANAH. Um duh, it's hot there. She doesn't look 'skanky' or anything of the sort. It seems to me that the judges were afraid of a little bit of originality here. Beyoncee not only captured the mood of motherhood by showing her child something beautiful, but she did it with style. I look at the other shots and they look tired and boring - as if everyone sat around trying to figure out how to hug their child.
I'm really disappointed in the judges comments today, and it leaves me wondering what exactly is the point of this.

I really wish there wasn't so much drama after each assignment.... geeze, we seemed to get off easy with the first round that only had a couple of incidents of people getting pissed. Come on people, it's JUST a competition! Also, it's NOT a competition hosted by the random people running around the forums, so PLEASE stop trying to take the judges places.
Man, this time around we really have some annoying people posting here. No offense, but I'm appalled at the amount of rudeness that some people display. I'm really disappointed that people can't show a little good behaviour towards a contest that is ran just for the fun of it. Just... don't take things so seriously. It makes life easier on the long run.
Beyoncee's entry was quite original, sure, and I didn't find any fault in her clothing (after all, it's hot in the savannah, and mesmers generally have flashy clothes). The thing that bothered me the most was that the mother and child were so far apart. Wouldn't it be nicer if they were looking at flamingos together? Right now the child looks like it was cropped into the picture as an afterthought, which really didn't work for me.
Working with children was quite hard, so I can understand that a lot of contestants had trouble with getting a good shot. The kids were quite large compared to our own characters... and they were just like kids, never doing what you wanted.
As for the meeting, I think Lion's Arch ID1 would be the best starting point. We can move from there if there seems to be a need. And the time I suggested before (11pst; 2est; 7gmt) should work the best for most people I think. So let's keep it at that? It will be 9 pm here where I live, and I really can't make it any later.
Also making it earlier wouldn't be too nice since some people will have to wake up real early.

Firstly, all this "drama" immediately reminds me of someone during the interviews who asked me something along the lines of "Is TNTM scripted?". No, no it is not scripted, I do not tell any of our contestants how to react or anything to that sort lol
Secondly, every week, someone has to complain about their comments. One of the first things I said to everyone was "We are going to be rude and critiquing will be harsh" and asked and prepared alot of you on what you could expect and all of you jumped and said yes. And every week, someone just acts so shocked that they're being attacked. Wake up, this is the industry. Either you can stand strong and shine through or crumble to pieces, thats your decision, but make the right one.
Anyways, here are some brief comments that our other judge had to say...
Arala - very classy shot
Beyoncee - did not feel emotional connection between characters
Bierflesjes - Wardrobe malfunction very distracting
Lokii - Cunning story to picture, very fun
Lunamaria - Funny story, but picture looks like manhandling child
Miss - Endearing picture, most emotional but lacks child's face
Mila - butt looks too big
Mojave - (This is where I draw the line on rude comments)
Szei - Great picture, very believable.
Alight, the scores are all added up and we have our MOTW and eliminated contestant ready to announce later today. Good Luck to everyone!

I would like to remind everyone that while the spam rules are lax in here there are a whole set of rules that are being enforced... Please, if you really truely have a problem with stuff thats said in this thread or what the judges say, please bring it up in private. Either Me for forum issues, or Lady Nilene for contest issues. I don't want to have to come back in here and have to clean crap up.
And yes I do have my opinions about what the judges said this week, but meh its not really worth arguing or complaning about.
Anyway, carry on.
As for the get together that is to take place about 10 or 11 hours from now or so... I should be around for a little bit hopefully, and I hope Szei can be there with Ivan. =P

Jaden's Tip of the Week
The Importance of Cropping
This weeks segment is going to deal with cropping and the importance of doing it right. Cropping your photo correctly can create a completly new feel to the exact same picture. These two pictures are of course the same shot. One is a better overall shot, But the other is more suited for this competition. So today I'm going to go over what I like to do when cropping and what I look for.
Pick the photo you like and go with it. Once you've found that special shot take a few different crops. It never hurts to try a few different Crops. I usually recrop a few different times just to see what it could look like.
To much open space is wasted space. In general try not to leave large areas of open space in your shots. If there's nothing there, get rid of it.
symmetry is your friend. Try to keep the width from your focal point even on both sides to draw attention to what you want to show. However the exact opposite of this can work as well, forcing your character to one side of the shot can also create a nice look. Just remember there is no inbetween and sloppy cropping can ruin a good shot.
Crop according to the assignment. Remember you are on a mission each week. Make sure to focus on what needs to be focused on.
Cropping is not just there to resize your photo, or to remove the unsightly elements. It can really change the entire feel of your picture and it really seperates the good shots from the bad. So don't think your done after you find that perfect shot, because it can be so much more with a little editing effort.

I think Jaden's shot is taken just outside Tsumei Village in Panjiang Peninsula (there's a cute little shrine there as well <3).
Personally I love Beyoncee's shot, I commend the effort put into it and I think her clothes are just perfect. Hotpants ftw \o/.
I so wanted to do that same kind of pose Lokii did with the kid, it's just way too cute <3. If I'd had a monk I certainly would have.
I was wondering, you girls who took pictures in Vabbi, couldn't you turn around the kids? Their already dark faces are all lost in the shadows, which is a pity. Szei hasn't made it to Vabbi yet so I couldn't test it.. but I noticed those Canthan kids in DP couldn't be turned around like normal npc's.
Oh, and to the judges;
Quote: Judge 1: I'm particularly glad that you did tone it down, we saw pictures that you took with the npcs before, and it was horrible. We weren't sure if you we're just playing around or not, but you left the jug focus item on, and that could really be taken the wrong way. So I'm just pleased that you we're aware of looking like a mother in the submission. The pics I posted previously were spoofs/accidents, which I thought was pretty obvious too.

Ah, true.... I always get confused with that. Although I remember there being daylight savings in North America too? Which would still put them at seven hours time difference counting from the east coast, so it would be 9pm here when it's 2pm there. So technically my calculations should be correct.... maybe..... agh, I'll just show up at nine, and then wait the hour if I wasn't right. :P
Sihaya, Szei and I live in Finland, which is about 1 hour time difference with European central time ![]() All this time counting is confusing... x_x Sihaya Syme

Nice pics girls! Beyoncee's looks the most model like imho. Very nice. I don't personally find any kind of uh...indecency in hotpants. I think they're cool. It's a hot climate and it fits. Also Arala's and Szei's pictures look very clean. I think you guys pulled off the modern mum look very well. Arala's background I like a lot and Szei's kid looks nice, I like the colors.
I don't understand the comment Mango got either? From what I read on the other thread I thought she had some major difficulties with the aura and I can easily believe that. P.S. Things are a bit...heated in this thread now. I love this competition but i think the atmosphere was much better in the first cycle.
Loooking forward 2 seeing you later, regardless anyways =P Maria The Princess
all the drama is upsetting. yes you have to deal with criticism, and osmetimes its harsh, but this also happens in real life when you have to take criticism from your employers, teachers or even friends.
but i see something that bothers me even more. in cycle 1, the judges were alittle... nicer? in every comment there was constructive criticism. even if i didnt agree with each one of them, every comment was rather polite then rude. yes, theres nicer ways to say the same thing. look at Antm, even if the judges are not happy with the shots, they still point out what was wrong and how the competitor should be improving. they didnt just made rude comments and jump to the next shot. im not sure if this cycle its the same judges or not, but it would be nice if they remembered this: even if you people are the judges, you have to remember that who you are judging are also people with feelings. sure its fun to criticise others hard work, but you shoudl know where to draw the line not to go too far and hurting someones feelings. in cycle 2 you seemed to take this "job" more seriously, your comments were actually helpful rather then just dissing. how can you complain about drama on the thread when you throw around comments comparing contestants to a celebrity who obviously is in deep trouble, and bring out another celebrity that is just as skanky as her but didn't shave her head? those are people youre judging, not pieces of meat. try to act more like it was cycle 1 maby? before Tntm became so popular and you actually had to keep people interested in this thread? after throwing rude comments like this, what did you expect from the contestants? there only people, not all of us have a patience of a saint to hear so much BS and keep smiling. theres good criticism, when its actually helpful, and theres the bad one, that sounds like its coming from a 10 year old who just "didnt like the picture" but cant really say anything smart about it. yes drama is fun, but after every photo shoot? it becomes a bar fight. reminds me of that "black hole bar fight" thread on off topic forum. ok i'm done venting. This isnt critiquing, critiquing is actually pointing out good features and suggesting that others can be fixed. I know this because I camp the art forum and they go into paragraphs of suggestions and praises on what is good and what is bad. This...this is just saying "oh lol this one detail sucks you fail." It's just so blunt, rude and blatant that it doesn't even sound the judges even give half a care. And how the HELL Can you justify docking someone because "their butt looks big?!" That is not only sexist but just basically saying I dont like your character design whatsoever. Unlucky Slayer

Because it's a modelling competion. Well, ok, not REALLY a modeling competition, but it is imitating a modelling competition. And in such a thing, a model who portrays her physique in an unflattering light will certainly have it held against her. Short necks, big buts/guts, jaw too strong, etc...it's all very very common on the *NTM shows. If anything, that critique is one of the more "in character" ones we've seen.
LadyNilene
Everyone, just take it down a notch, as I said before, if you're not comfortable with being in the competition than please leave, I'm not holding anyone against their will, and I'm still surprised on what all the hype is about. I made sure you all understand what you we're getting into during the interviews, so all this here is unnecessary to me. I apologize if you guys are offended, but this is how it goes in the industry, love it or hate it.
Alright, I'm on my break at work, so just informing everyone that I won't be able to post the results till later tonight! And for those who have contacted me about the boot camp deal, I know I haven't gotten back to many of you, so here's some more info about that, it probably won't happen till the end of Cycle 2, and depending on when exactly Eye Of The North is released Cycle 3 might or might not be included. If we choose to drop the Cycle 3 competitors than expect a five on five or six on six between Cycle 1/2. But hopefully we can get Cycle 3 to make it more interesting. The application for the Cycle 3 people won't be posted since it might cause more spam, so just directly contact me and I'll get you situated. Thank you! Glitched
I've been monitoring this contest since it started, but I haven't posted yet. I just thought I'd give my own comments to this week's since I don't completely agree with all of the comments.
Arala Starsong This shot is really kind of cute. My only real complaint is the ick proportions but that can't be helped. Your choice of background was really nice. Beyoncee Knowlez I'm almost scared to critique this one with all of the arguing. I can't say that I like it, but it's not because of the armor, I actually think it works. My complaints are the distance between you and the kid and the fact that you're almost a part of the background. Your face is blurred and I don't think you're the subject of this shot. Bierflesjes Klauw Boob aside, you chose the best possible child for the picture. The background works but I don't see you as cheering for the kid, rather than something off-camera. Lokii Dia It's a real nice looking shot, but I don't see too much of a connection between you and the kid. It looks as though it could be the kid next door as easily as your son. Besides that, its a fair shot. Lunamaria Cruz I wouldn't have seen you as looking like a sister had a judge suggested it, but now I see it. You were another Vabbian but the hug looks great. Mila Fox You have been my second favorite in this competition, and probably will still be. But this is a sad shot. My family could eat dinner on your butt and you look a tad like a centaur. Additionally, you look like you're pulling a coin from behind the girl's ear. There is much more I could point out in the shot, but I'll leave it at you could have done much better. Miss Melly You look like you are comforting your girl, which is great. The only thing I can complain about is the inability to see her face, but otherwise this is a very good shot. Mojave Mango Juice Uh...err...hmm. Well, there isn't too much that can be said. It's a very plain, very safe shot and quite underwhelming. I'm trying my hardest to point out something nice but I just can't find it. ![]() Szei Ren You're my favorite in this competition, and you've brought an overall great shot to a collection of mediocre ones. You're one of three people to have a unique background choice and I completely get the feel of being at a game. My personal list of best to worst, based on this week alone: 1. Arala Starsong 2. Szei Ren 3. Miss Melly 4. Lunamaria Cruz 5. Lokii Dia 6. Bierflesjes Klauw 7. Beyoncee Knowlez 8. Mila Fox 9. Mojave Mango Juice I hope I don't take any flack from the list or comments. I could be way off lol. mojave mango juice
Alright...I wasn't gonna post this until I knew what my third comment was, but eh...I know my shot wasn't the best this week, and I know we are supposed to be able to accept harsh criticism. I can handle criticism fine, as was promised on my application. However, I was always taught that criticism was pointing out the goods and bads of things. However, the comments lately have not been what I consider criticism. I don't know, maybe I've spent too much time in the art forums lately. Over there, people are told good and bad points of their artwork, and how they can be improved. I saw a lot more of that in here last cycle. However, the comments lately have seemed to have degraded. Some seem rather rushed. I have spoken to some of the others (I will not name names for their privacy), and they, like I, would like to improve. We can not improve from these two-word, hasty, negative comments. If something is bad, please tell us why it is bad, so that we can go to make it better. As promised in my form, I will accept harsh criticism. But there is a difference between criticism and "(This is where I draw the line on rude comments)."

Really nice shots.
For Beyoncee's shot I don't think you can say she isn't motherly by what she is wearing. Everyone has their own perspective and if you actually think about the climate of a real savahna you, would be wearing that too. But one thing I did notice about the judges this cycle was that, I think they become a little harsher and though they did say for the application you have to be able to take the critism, there is a thin line between constructive critism and just being plain rude, and you have to know what boundry. Anyways, I enjoyed the party for the part I was at. It was fun meeting everyone. It was a real great idea. Here are two shots of everyone.
