Hi, there,
I have been speaking with our Billing Department about our online stores: The Guild Wars Official (in-game) Store and the PlayNC store. I've been asking lots of team members about PayPal, and they've given me a list of reasons why we do not currently accept it, including higher costs, higher risk of fraud (chargebacks and so forth) and, most of all, the fact that the vast majority of those who use PayPal have a credit card and therefore could use that to make a purchase.
Please help me with this survey, but please answer honestly, so that it has some value in the discussion. It's really important that if I turn over poll results, we don't find out that the statistics are wildly different than what the poll offers. (If that happens, my ability to ask for things on your behalf will be damaged. "Yeah, that's Gaile, remember she told us people wanted PayPal and that was a lot of hooey?"
Give me your answer and comments, as well, please. Thanks so much for helping.

i have a paypall account i use once in a while to buy games on ebay when i find them cheap; the debit card i use for my paypal account is the same one i use on the gw online store.
So... nope, no difference whatsoever for me using paypal or not. i probably would keep using my debit card to buy gw:en from the gwstore
furthermore, the main point of me buying from the gw store rather then from a retailer is to let a.net have a bigger share of the revenues. if paypall takes even just 1$ away from a.net, that's not the best option for me

Explain (I posted I would not use paypal).
I often use paypal, but in this case I would not use paypal because I would rather see ANET get the cash instead of paypal siphoning off fees from my credit card usage. I would expect most paypal users have credit card as well.
Keep the coins instead of giving it to the middleman paypal for usage fees.

I have a credit card and a PayPal account. I use PayPal exclusively on E-bay (where I wouldn't want the sellers to know my CC #) and any other online location where I feel there may be an issue with damaged goods or potential fraud.
For reputable stores (Amazon, BestBuy.com, etc), I have no problems giving my credit card number. There is just as much chance of my # being stolen by the cashier at Walmart as by a hacker. I have no problems using my credit card in the online store and would use it over Paypal.
I appreciate the fact that you are trying to take steps to help those of us who have been vocal (yeah, that's an understatement!!!) regarding the new mission pack.
I hope you will make an option available for folks like me that plan to buy GW:EN in a local retail store. The only reason is that I want an actual manual and the physical cds. Please give us an option to get the mission pack. I wouldn't mind paying extra for the pack in the online store or buying other items from the store. Do you know if there will be other items available before November? (Coffee mugs, mousepads, T-Shirts, etc?)

I would find it simpler to use my credit/debit card, and I would think that most gamers of an age to be spending money through paypal would be old enough to have one.
If it comes down to security, I would suppose it would be up to the consumer which they thought was more secure, paypal or the store. Certainly cutting out the middle man keeps the info changing hands down to a minimum.
Off topic: To all the complainers from a bit back talking about customer service and whatnot:
. As I recall there were only a couple replies to the bonus mission threads which mentioned wanting paypal. Thank you for finding them and addressing their concerns Gaile.
But that's just my two cents

I've used Paypal for plenty of things and there's nothing wrong with using it. You guys are all paranoid if you don't trust PayPal.
There is no PayPal fees involved with making payments. It's 100% free. You only pay fees when receiving money. You can even transfer money back to your bank account for free.
If PlayNC starts accepting Paypal will there be more charges involved? Since there is a fee for accepting payments?

No big difference between Paypal and a credit card, I wouldn't use either.
But here's an idea that would make everyone happy imho. WoW has these Game time coupons you can buy at retail stores, which equal a monthly subscription. GW could have something similar, where you buy a coupon at a retail store worth say, 30 bucks, which you could use to buy something from the online store for the same price. One way how it could work is that you add a key to your account, which would give you the bought amount of credits which you can spend. This would probably require Anet to add more things to the store to make it worth it, but I believe that is what they plan to do anyways.

Paypal may cost more, but given that it can (not necessarily should) be linked directly to a bank account, it would allow people who don't have a credit card to use the store. Remember only US debit cards work like Visa or Mastercard, up here in Canada, debit works differently. As a side note, I just recently moved back to Canada after 3 years in the US and one Christmas while down there, I was trying to get my sister a gift from a Canadian retailer so I could avoid shipping charges across the border, etc. Pull out the handy US debit card which is supposed to be accepted everywhere Visa is, try to make purchase and have things go boom, retailer can't accept debit over the internet
I could have gone into the store and used the card just like a visa, but over the net, the validation was coming up debit and the system didn't know how to handle those. Paypal, or some other method of accepting payment without a credit card is a good idea for everyone who ISN'T american
