I would not use PayPal because I strongly prefer the convenience just using a credit/debit card. I also don't really like the way PayPal works, which seems like a lot more hassle than just running the card through a secure site.

I have credit cards, I have paypal....have used them both for online purchases....like paypal better since I have the option to pay from my bank account instead of my cc (or use my cc if the amount is more than I wish to take from my bank account).
Also I dont have to put in my cc info onto untrusted sites (playNC for one) and with paypal I have that option---they wont see my info, only that I used paypal to pay (then they can hack into paypal to get it if they are so inclined I guess).

I have used paypal for many years and I have never had a problem with it.

I will still use my Credit card to purchase items off the Online store, but the option to use pay pal will allow other that for one reason or an other can't use a credit card have access to the online stores services.
I would like to thank Anet (Gaile) for responding so fast to our comments (as posted in the Make the bonus mission pack available to people without credit cards thread).

I don't have a creditcard (yet), but a good friend of mine has a paypal account I'm allowed to use.
I would also be able to use my debit account to get money on the paypal account, thus not requiring a creditcard.
I can't use my debit card for online transactions.
I think quite a lot of the people here in the Netherlands have the same situation. Creditcards are not that common here compared to the US.

I need to preface my response with this: I don't know if the issue I am going to mention has been changed, but the last time that I tried it (quite a while ago) the issue still existed.

I voted that I have a credit card, but would use PayPal for one reason. When you try to make a purchase on multiple accounts with the same card, you have to do them on different days. So, for example, if I buy GW:EN on release day in the online store, and want to also buy it for my wife's account, I cannot do that on the same card. I either have to get a 2nd card, or she has to wait a day while I play GW:EN and she cannot. The next day (24 hours later) we can then purchase it for her account. However in households where multiple family members have accounts, that could mean waiting a week to get all the accounts into GW:EN.

If you add PayPal as an option, you can tie it directly to a bank account instead of a credit card, and then you can use multiple PayPal accounts on the same bank account to purchase for multiple accounts.

I have credit cards, and dislike the concept of PayPal, so I'd (personally) never use it.

I have also set up a number of online stores, and can appreciate the lack of willingness to go the distance to set it up.

If it's a viable option for others, and if it means a significant increase in sales, however, I would encourage that it be implemented. I just don't know if it's something that can be leveraged with the international audience of this game.

I don't have and never will have a credit card so I would use paypal linked to my debit card, I'm sure Anet could absorb the paypay charges comfortably, I realise online delivery of games isn't free to run but it must make a lot more money than packaging and shipping games to be sold through a third party.

No, as a Dutch person, I only pay with my bank account, I do not have a creditcard and do not have paypal and don't want anything to do with them as they are vastly inferior, fraud-sensitive systems compared to the Dutch banking system, which by the way, also doesn't charge fees, unlike creditcards and paypal.

Eve Online allows me to pay my monthly fee directly with my bank account, by the way.

"No I would not use PayPal (Please explain)"

I can use my credit or debit card for online purchases, I've only used PayPal for a few eBay transactions that would accept nothing else. However I think PayPal would be a good thing for those that cannot use their credit/debit cards online.

AH, but what would you do if you wanted the the Guild Wars Bonus Mission Pack? (available exclusively via the online store, and only if you spend money there between now and the promotion end. details here.)

That aint available in a store you can walk to. So, how would you purchase something that gave you the ability to get that pack?

Paypal should definately be an option for the online store regardless of this poll. More ways/options for receiving money can only help the situation with the $29 requirement to get the free missions.

Right now more people are voting "No" because they would rather just use their debit/credit cards. This vote is already toast.

"No, I would not use PayPal" means no, but "Yes I would use PayPal but I prefer to use my Credit Card" does not mean no...

Just accept Paypal and be done with it.

No, I would never use PayPal! Mainly due to the fact that owe me monies and are making it impossibe for me to reclaim what even they say is legally mine!

Once you have a problem with them you soon realise just what a bunch of fly by night con artists PayPal really are!

Well, so you would be among those who will never see the Add-on mission pack. If that's acceptable to you, more power to you, I am sure there are lots of people who don't care about the mission pack.

By the same token though, there are those who do not have the option (currently) to buy the things that you cannot buy in a retail store (UAX Packs, extra Char slots, etc...) and want the mission pack but cannot get it.

Gaile: I had an idea. Instead of accepting PayPal (an expensive option for you guys, and a downright inconvenient one for some customers) why not accept electronic checks? Charge a $2.50 USD convenience fee, and run the electronic checks instead of PayPal. It's about the same trouble for the customers, is an accepted form of payment (that's how I pay my cc bills) in most places, and funds can usually be verified instantly electronically, and you open yourself to less fraud. In addition to allowing people who don't have a cc to purchase from the online store, as I understand it, you can go to a western union branch and purchase a "temporary check" that will work for an electronic check payment. That would allow someone to essentially pay with cash without even having a checking account.

I have paypal and i dont have a debit card or credit card, I cant get one, as i have tried and if the option was there i would use Paypal, though it does take ages to clear usally 10 days.

I think someone earlier said that to use paypal you needed a credit card, this is wrong all yo uneed is a bank account.

My bank account is set up to let paypal use it as direct debit. When i miss comics or such like i buy them on ebay and pay with paypal.

Not as convenient as credit card, but at least i can get stuff online that i cant otherwise.

Easy for you to say when Anet has to pay the fees...

The poll is to help determine whether or not pay-pal would be a worthwhile investment by Anet. I'm sure it will not be the sole research done...

Anyway, everyone knows these kinds of polls are not scientific.

I have a CC and would still like to use paypal, because I've already had someone at Blizzard steal my card once. They deny it was an emploee of corse, but what are the chances that my card would get hijacked and only used at one of 2 places I ever used it lol. I feel safer with paypal because they are the only ones who ever see my card number.

And for those who say cut the middleman out, thats no solution when the whole point is to create more ways to pay in the online store. Anyone who can open a checking account can get a paypal account. So If A-Net is considering expanding the pay options I see it as the way to go.

No, please explain: I have a PayPal account from before e-bay bought them. I used it in those days because many private sellers had no desire (or means) to accept credit cards. I, in turn, did not wish to send off a check with no assurance of ever receiving the goods ordered.

Now, for a site like ArenaNet, I would use my credit card. Most areas have the Visa/MC gift cards available for purchase if you don't have a credit card.

I use PayPal because I can use my bankaccount with it without having to go for a creditcard and pay those fees.

@ those who mentioned PayPal costing Anet: You think CC acceptance is free for Anet? I'm not exactly sure what the rates are, but both cost money to the one accepting it. I was investigating this for possibilities for a webshop and know both cost money.

Besides that, PayPal offers a solution to all the Europeans who don't own a CC, because in Europe it isn't that common to own one. So offering other solutions like PayPal, Click & Buy or iDEAL would open up the GW store to a lot bigger audience.

I have a CC, but I never really liked Paypal. Kept bugging me to attach my account to my bank account to be more "certified". I would rather have someone try to use my CC (since I have it locked at a $500 credit limit anyway-whatever they buy wont be much) than clean out my checking and savings.
I would more or less vote for ANET to allow prepaid CC's to be used at the store OR sell in retail stores an ANET "cash card" (if you will let me use that example) that you can use to spend the pre-determined amount at the online store.

I do have a credit card and I haven't set up my pay pal account fully yet.I would suggest maybe another line of paying although this in voles more paper work and that is to have it billed to you.It will be sent in the mail and you will have certain amount of time to pay it be chuque(check) or through your bank or money order. This might be an alternative and whatever happened to the methods like this. This how your credit card co. does it as well as utility companies not through money orders though.

You can still do this when you see those Ads on TV.

I voted no. I don't see any reason to get them involved at all. The current system is fine. I would rather buy direct then go through a 3rd party transaction type of deal. I only use pay pal if it's the only option or seems more secure, but that's for different things that are not related.

There is a large number of people that don't have Visa( or mastercard) Check cards from their bank and don't have a credit card. Paypal accepts checking accounts as an option for 'source of funds'. I do not have a credit card I have a check card. But I have had my Paypal longer and really prefer to maintain just one payment method online regardless of who I am doing business with.

I just use my credit card. Like others, I don't see why Anet would bother with PayPal since they have the ability to process credit card transactions themselves. PayPal is for businesses that lack that capacity.

no i would not use paypal because:

I use paypal for a very limited number of reasons, if I do not trust the person I am buyng from or the website they are selling at to not steal my bank details,
or the company I trust does not allow me to use my debit card.

Since I trust A-net, and they accept Solo in England, I have no reason to use paypal.

If my debit card was not supported then my preference would be for that to change, but if that would require support for a vast number of cards, I expect paypal would be the better option for A-net to take.
