PayPal Poll
MooMooShipsHigh
Heh, well, i still rely on my parents (being 13 years of age and all) when buying all the Guild Wars-thingies you throw my way, so i don't really mind adding PayPal to the list of ways to pay. Does that really matter? Correct me if i'm wrong, more ways of being able to pay is good, right? I mean, i have 'older' friends who doesn't have credit cards, so how the heck are they supposed to get those cool Mini-Missions? I'd buy it for them all, bu-... Oi, spinning off topic there.. heh, well the answer is of course "Yes". PayPal would be a good thing for those interested in say.. extra character slots and PvP editions...

Well... I had a paypal account before I had a credit card... but I wanted additional character slots so badly that I got a prepaid VISA to buy them... although the card alone is almost 40 €/year - well, made a deal with some trustworthy guildmates that I'd buy them storage accounts as well with the card in return of some of the money I have to pay to be able to use the card.
And then... well... it somehow showed I never used my PayPal account as I now use the prepaid VISA for everything I would normally use PayPal for.
So... hell, yeah, I *was* interested. But... the matter has solved in another way for me, I guess.

As for higher costs, the percentage in fees to Paypal is most likely incredibly miniscule compared with the differential between wholesale and retail prices (for items being sold at retail). For any conversions from a retail purchase to an online purchase instead, that's potentially a much better return to ANet. For the most part, it's merely incremental licensing of an intellectual property license, so there's not much of a cost so a price-cost margin isn't even really at issue for those fees payable to Paypal being much of an issue (given that it's unlikely that those who would use credit cards with its own set of fees would instead use Paypal). ANet should know it's market well enough already to figure out whether Paypal would appeal to a significant enough share of its market to be an option. It's an online entertainment service with customers with certain demographics across a broad age range. Instead of a poll of how many or what percentage of players (who participate in the poll) would use Paypal, the more applicable baseline question should be how many players (or how much in revenues) need to purchase through the online store using Paypal (that otherwise wouldn't) to make it a worthwhile option for ANet to make it available as an option? If that's a low number, it's probably a no brainer (although not fully considering other possible issues that ANet might possibly have). |

PAYPAL DOES NOT NEED A CREDIT CARD
Sorry.. had to say that. Its been stated numerous times now

I do not have a credit card, for many reasons. I thoroughly enjoy using PayPal for my online purchases (where accepted). PayPal does NOT require a CC to use, contrary to some belief. Voted first option; I DO NOT have a credit card, I DO currently use PayPal and I WOULD use it for GW purchases.

My personal experience with Paypal has been... POOR, to put it politely. In my own business, and in several others I know personally, Paypal has caused numerous problems wiht their poor business practices.
I will not buy anything via Paypal.
It is simpler and safer to use a reloadable debit card from Visa or MasterCard. These can be purchased in many grocery and department stores here in the U.S.

No, I would not use Paypal in this case. I do use Paypal, but only in cases where a merchant takes it and I'm wary of giving my credit card info, or too lazy.
EBay is the primary reason I ever use Paypal.

Well, being able to use PayPal in the GW store, etc. would be nice because I usually have a balance on PayPal. Not having to put more money on my credit card statement would be nice. I would definitely use it.

Seems like I (and many others) are going to miss out those new missions because the lack of non-creditcard payment options in the gwshop
And no, here in holland we don't have prepaid creditcards afaik

"No I would not use PayPal"
I only use PayPal account if-and-only-if credit cards are not accepted. It's highly suspectable to frauds on both sides (buyer and seller) and it can only be as a very last resort.
I'd much rather buying something like PlayNC point-card, PlayNC coupons, and something of this sort than PayPal if it is a viable option.

I would like to have the option to use PayPal. I've never had any problens with them, and sometimes it's just more convenient.

The way the poll is designed it looks like it skews the results.
Just looking at it, it appears that most people would not use PayPal.
However, the majority of people would in fact use PayPal, except they have split votes.

Have Credit Card - have Pay Pal also. Would just use CC.

I have a credit card for emergency purchases only. I prefer to use paypal because I can do it as a check basically, paying out of my checking account. I, in fact, just talked to one of your people the other day about the fact that I want to purchase character slots right now but won't do it because you don't take paypal.
Jamison0071
I wouldn't use Paypal, but I would love to have like Gift Certificate cards available in shops which allow you to spend a set amount of money in the stall. Like Time Cards for those other MMO's.
pizzamonkey
Yes, I would buy from the online store with Paypal if made available since I do not have a credit card. I currently do not make enough income to afford a credit card and I rely on paypal for all of my online payments. Business can come from me if paypal is made available.. otherwise, no business from me. I'd sure appreciate it though if Paypal was a method of payment.
Winterclaw
I can get visa or mastercard (don't rememeber which offhand) gift cards easily enough at my mall and so long as I can use those instead, I wouldn't need to use paypal.
Batmaniii
Pay Pal doesnt work with maestro card... so this is not an option for me. And I cant get Visa/American Express or any kind of credit card/ card with credit on it.
What options do you give us?...
Id also like to say that im very dissapointed in this new system you seem to have introduced. This "korean" like gaming system, get special items by purchasing something from the online store.. very bad. I understand you need money for GW2 but your biggest fans that dont have the possibility to buy from the store or have friends to get stuff for them, are dissapointed big time.

The first and last time i used Paypal i got charged 7 pounds and it's quite confusing, or at least was to me.
I also used to get many spoof emails claiming to be from paypal, phishing for my details.
I have since avoided it like the plague.

I got a Creditcard, and i'm using mainly that - bought two expansions and other stuff in the GW store with it as well. Don't really like PayPal, but thats more of a personal thing.
It's not unusual to use PayPal here in Germany though, as not everybody has a Credit Card (because most just use the European EC-Cash system, which is quite comfortable but not very common in online purchases). In general i say the more paying possibilites the better - why not PayPal, it's a start for european user who don't have a CC, as you can also use PayPal just with a bank account over here as well.

Aside from paypal and credit card, are there any payment method that Anet would like to consider?
In the GW wiki, it says there that Anet is looking on SMS payment? Kindly enlighten us about this Ms. Gray? How does this work? Thank you

I have a paypal account but I also have a CC and I'd rather use my CC so I voted no.

I've used Paypal for stuff I've bought on Ebay before. I've found that they have poor customer service and are either slow on conflict resolution or give you the runaround. Paypal, for me, is unreliable at best. To use it for PlayNC purchases seems unnecessary unless they stop accepting credit cards.
aeronox
I would use PayPal. It doesn't require a Credit Card. I don't have a Credit Card. I would have bought alot through the online store in the past if you accepted PayPal - PvP Packs, character slots - and now I have 2 PvE roleplaying games I don't play and never intend to play, and have spent countless hours grinding to unlock via faction what I could have had earlier and saved money, too.
Currently the only time I use PayPal is to pay for numerous domain registrations and remote web hosting services. It has been easy and problem-free.

Just any other way to buy things at the online store would do, because now a lot of european customers can't buy anything and feel left out.

Why not...Because the ingame shop takes my form of UK debit card , the solo card.
so why would i need to use something else, which has been mentioned in earlier posts, that would need ANET to increase their charges because paypal siphons it...OR ANET suffers the costs of the offset and sticks to the same pricing structures.
Paypal has been open to too much fraud in my opinion, with scams and phishing sites too.

I have a credit card but I'd prefer to use PayPal.
Edit: I should note I've only ever used PayPal for Ebay and to me it's alot safer than throwing aorund credit card details.

I have no PayPal, no credit card. I pay all my online purchases via bank transfer, pay-to-postman (Called rembours in my country) or with a bill I pay via bank after receipt. I'll get the retail version of EotN.
But again, please don't forget your retail customers. Don't exclude us from having access to these bonus missions which seem to have some considerable storyline parts to tell.

I have a Paypal account for ebay, but that's all I use it for. I'm perfectly happy using my card on the NCSoft site because I previously bought character slots and there were no problems at all. I think at the time the online store was implemented it wouldn't accept my card, like the Canadian poster above, but then the choice was expanded and it was possible again, which was good. More credit and debit card choices would limit the number of people with no option to use the store/a need for Paypal.
So I'm not one of the people Paypal would help, but that doesn't mean I don't think it should be implemented :-)

That said, I haven't yet and nor am I sure I ever will unless NCSoft bring in a limited amount of password attempts before the account is locked down. Have they done that yet?
If so, I'm happy to be corrected, but I have major doubts about using a service that doesn't have that most basic level of security.
Plus I prefer a boxed product.

I certainly would get a paypal account just to buy me some more char slots, and definelty that special offer that is going on right now, i want that so bad.
So yeah bring it on.
(Valve did it to with Steam, also after a lot of discussions but its here, so if they can do it, so could you Anet.)
