The huge file size is likely background downloading for the GW:EN Pre-release, although it's a bit early for that...

Anyways, any comments from me about the update would interpreted as negative somehow, ergo I will not comment.

Get around it & keep it from the party box with : W[T]S or W T S (spaces in between) and you'll advertise your whole message...

You don't install any data for EotN when you put in the CD. The CD only contains the Gw.dat that lets you execute the game (if it's anything like the CD for the campaigns). All data for EotN is then downloaded. I don't know why I keep having to tell people this

I highly doubt that they'll ban someone for trying to sell something in the TRADE channel.

Man, this long downloading time reminds me of playing Morrowind on the X-Box...Most killer load times ever! And when you died right after you loaded? Oh shit it was over, young son. Enjoy your extra 2 minutes of screen tips.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to the new DoA changes. Has anyone tried it out yet?

...I am currently downloading at 5 KB/s, on a 15mbps line. Back before Nightfall, I would get over 600 KB/s on downloads, but now look at what's happened.

Thanks a lot, Anet.

You sure about that? Cause if it's just the executable for GW, then shouldn't it stay roughly the same size, since the engine is pretty much the same with only a few additions (such as heroes, insigs etc). All the new campaigns and areas are just extra data, run by the same engine. But the Gw.dat for NF is larger than that for factions which was larger than that for prophs. Or at least I think it was, haven't really looked at it after installing them. I'll check when I get home, but I'm pretty sure it isn't. Or maybe I confused it with some other file?

Game is currently unplayable for me, I go anywhere and the game constantly freezes for several seconds, everything is jumping around on screen... I hope this won't last long because I don't feel like -image for hours on 10 KBS.

Game is done downloading and very playable for me.

Anyway... why are some people seemingly avoiding the party search? People are now selling things starting their lines with "W T S" instead of "WTS". Jesus. What the hell is wrong with people? The party search gives me a nice overview of what people are selling and buying. And I'm talking about Temple of Ages, regarding the ecto and shard trading. JEEBUS!!!

Wow... and believe it or not ABs are actually reasonable ok, the average 300-400 ping for an int district.

I'm really not a fan of what they did to templates in chat. The bright green writing looks really out of place.

Edit: Tahlia, they always did that. Before WTS would get sent directly to the trade channel... so they spammed W TS instead just so it'd stay in local.

That's because the newer campaigns had some of the data that had been added to the Gw.dat already on them to help reduce the amount of downloading required. The Nightfall one for example, probably had the stuff needed for heroes added to it (compared to the others).

Seriously, I have never used my Factions or Nightfall CD, but I play all three Campaigns. Besides, most relevant game data is downloaded weeks in advance (like today's update), so there's no point in using the CD if you already play Guild Wars.

Well then you're stuck between a rock and a hard place, because if you don't -image it will be unplayable. It's great once it's fully downloaded.

Isn't that the point then? That the CD/DVD has the raw base data to run the campaign, and then you only need to download the latest patch or build. Wouldn't it be more efficient to not bother streaming too much data when you could just shove it on the disk. Though this would of course have problems for those who don't buy the disks but from the online store and such. Still, they have to download it anyway, so why not leave it closer to GWEN's actual release before streaming down 1 gig of stuff for the rest of us who could be actually playing now? Or when we get home anyway?

Exactly! But if you want to be stupid and W T S in local, then you will get banned...my reply was meant for the trade channel to fully list the item you want to sell w/o having it chopped in half via the party box...

They've always done it like this. I think they just got excited and tried putting out too much of the data for EotN.

Because you are wrong maybe? The cd's contain the full game (before all the updates), meaning if you install off the cd, you do not have to download the game through the client, only updates.

This is bloody ridiculous! I'm sitting here on a damn fast unshaped 8Mb MaxDSL connection and this update is coming down at 40KB/s! It's taken 10 mins just to get to 7% and I still have over 19,000 files remaining.

If they're going to put out a big update, then at least I'd expect them to allow us with quick connections to download quicker than this! It's pathetic!

Sorry for the huge download. I'm not quite sure why it was so large, but I figure maybe we're rollling out super-secret content for next Wintersday or something. (No, I'm only kidding! )

Anyway, there are some issues I need to share with you, for instance, graphical bugs like:
  • Character errors (Some of them are sorta funny looking)
  • Changes to the position of the interface elements
  • Strange text in the territory drop-down menu
We're working to fix those things. The territory switching drop-down will give you an Err 007 if you try to move from NA to EU districts or vice-versa. It's not intended to work, it was just part of something we were fiddling with on the Development Server and somehow it all got mixed up into the Live Server. These are all no harm, no foul, non-long-lasting issues, but we'll tidy them up in a new build out today/tonight.

In fact, I understand the Live Build is in the oven right now.

I have to fully agree. It's annopying that we can no longer make the party bar the size we want as it would have been nice to still be able to resize it the way we prefer it rather than having it tell us how we should prefer it.... oy.

Me and you BOTH, I also have a special setup for monking and it's totally ruined now that I can't adjust my party bar. I mean, honestly it is part of the Interface is it not? Shouldn't it be under the interface tab so that if you WANT you CAN adjust it to how you want it? I have my skill bar up and down, and before the update I'd have my party bar up and down right next to it...now it's all...small, and confusing as crap. I can't drag it down and it's super annoying. For the love of god, change it back or at least put it under interface options to be able to adjust the darn thing! PLEEEEEASE

Then explain to me why, when you first install the game, you have to download every time you go to a new town or outpost. If it did what you said, you should already have most of the data for the towns and outposts, and only have to download the first time you log in.

It would be highly impractical to have all the data for the game already on the disk. The disks are full with the content they put on them as it is. It's cheaper to only include the bare minimum and have people download the rest latter (since they'll be downloading data anyways). That way they can save on costs for each disk they have to produce.
