Why, o why is Gwen a mesmer?

Gwen is godly as a mesmer in PVE, I use her all the time now along with Olias as MM, and Dun-whats-his-name as prot monk.

It's a reference to the boys measuring up their penises under the showers.
All for the purpose of boosting one's ego.
It's a juicy analogy that I like.

That was a personal achivement.
Keyword : "personal".
Nothing more, nothing less. And if you feel it's something you should be proud of - then by all means - BE!
But looking at it objectively - once you achieved that - you were able to play the class. I don't see why we should make a happy dance and celebrate that - we certainly don't do that for other classes!
What's the point of celebrating a player's not-sucking anymore?

Guild Wars is a team game.
The reason why the mesmer is sub-par in PvE is because there are better options for those 8 slots in a party.
That's the same reason why a 55 monk isn't the preferred choice for an 8-man party!

the only thing ur doing is seeing the mesmer how u want to see it, so u can come in with ur immature comments/responses and long written essay's that could have been done in 2 sentences or less, the fact is i can replace a Ele with a mesmer and have the mission/quest done 2.5 mins quicker, doesnt seem like much but add it all up in to a total...the fact is if u wanna bash the Mesmer and hate on it, do what every other Tom, Dick and Harry do, sit in Kamadan, Jewel of istan and bitch there like every other mesmer hating NOOB.

The comment was made in refrence to your comment about how they are harder to master and the quotes taken from someone else. :S Its all in the thread and I suck with memorizing who said what lol... I'm not saying you should throw a party or anything.. simply saying as it is obvious in my opinion that some people have a hard time time and don't quite understand mesmers which results in "oh mesmers sux" idealogy. With a little work and patience when first starting with mesmer it can be done that an effective character can be created. With the right build mesmers can rock pve!

Lmao, if Guild Wars was a team game, why can so many proffessions do so much solo work, take the assassin for example, we can not get a group if our life depended on it(well i cant) and its all due to the people who first started an Assassin when factions first came out, but theres those of us who can keep ourselves alive longer then every 1 else, Just Like Assassin's, Mesmers have gotten a bad rep from the early players, but theres those who learnt to do solo work with there Mesmer or Assassin, and if i want a team Hero's and Henchies come first and i can 100% guarantee any mission that requires 6-8 party members will be filled with 1 mesmer, why cus Mesmers are the most effective for any area with little change of the build, so u can hyphernate and do all u want Guild Wars is Not a team game, and the areas that require a team Just need henchies, hell i would enjoy this game 70% more if it werent online or required a group for some areas!!!!

P.S when i start my mesmer im getting all mesmer skills then dominating PvE and PvP i know how they work i have yet to start one tho!!!

Oh and im glad GWEN is a Mesmer maybe some of u will learn to appreciate the class a little more

Nah holy tinity with mesmer aren't just for decoration since we all know mesmer are conditional so having three makes it easier to cover more stuff as well as some max attribute team build that wouldn't work in PuG
(over stacking of same hex is pointless)

Just my 2 cent it about the group and not so much seeing them as single mesmer in holy trinity (it does have nice ring to it.)

Lyssa is made up of two so my norgu and gwen paired for this purpose and myself arm with some spammable spell with summon

I really can't believe how people think mesmers are useless in pve.

If one can't make a useful mesmer with 8 skills from a 200 + skilldex then I shall call that person N 0 0 B. Not very constructive I know

I used Gwen in that mission where you need HER. I kept the build given by the AI, removed the rez sig + add an elite....
Of course I put the necessary runes & she rocks the tiny mouse

The mistake is that you're trying to build a reputation of a class based on something as broken as solo farming. And you keep repeating that.

Ptah - my first main character on my second account. kept the looks of my first mesmer because I thought they were sweet! (You should see his closet! I still can't believe I spent ALL of his skill points to buys skills AND farmed a few more! I think I just wasted around 400k on his skills only - and then don't get me started on his armour sets nor his weaponry (to think I bought the 20/20 Rockmolder for some 80k and then watch it be turned into a copy of the normal one just a few days later!)

But they weren't. The tan was bad and the hair colour also left something to be desired.

So Apy was born! Plus I wanted a Legendary Survivor mesmer! Becoming my only character to sport FoW - because, well - if I'd ever get FoW for any of my characters it would have to be a mesmer!


My other mesmer chick. Was deleted because I needed the slots.

For the rest of the guys I sadly lack pictures:
- but there should be at least 1 that made it to ventari before meeting with the hands of doom because I did't like how he looked in the enchanter's armours! (what can I say - I was an idiot! I should have checked that in the PvP screen but instead I took him through half the game to see that he looked stupid!)
- then there was Akhmet who I just used to beat the Factions campaign because I wanted to gather all mesmer greens available - and so I needed to get my hands on all versions of the Effigy and the Wand. Gave up that idea though after getting all c1 and Factions mesmer greens - Nightfall sucked so I didn't want to spend more time there then completely necessary!
- prolly a few more - but it's not like I can remember ALL my mesmers.

And yes - I am a man. And there is no shower near!

1) Since when is the GWG staff your personal army? You give them time to take action? Granted, if you and Coloneh keep trolling, this probably will be locked or deleted, but certainly not because you demanded it to be.

Back on topic... Those who say the mesmer isn't usually the greatest choice for PvE are right - in some situations, it's a solid choice. Generally speaking though, PvE is mostly about DPS, shutdown isn't so much necessary. I'm fully aware that mesmers can deal decent damage - but it's not their strong suit, other classes can do it much more efficiently. Handy to have? Sometimes. Fun to play? Yup. One of the best choices for tearing through PvE? In most given scenarios, no.

Nah, regardless... I quite like her as a Mesmer... She did a decent enough job of hampering Hidesplitter as some illusion spam thing

What can mesmers do in PvE that E/Me or N/Me cannot do better?




please realize that "just because you suck dosnt mean mesmers suck" is not an answer. go back to middle school.

if only there were some cool fast casting spells people would appreciate mesmers more...

6 seconds of Blackout compared to 5 on a secondary mesmer.
Then there are the MoR builds - but those are a bit questionable - because the only one that I can think of and is really good is MoR-ing Mark Of Pain (but then we have a problem because the other godly Curses - Barbs, Enfeebling Blood and Shadow Of Fear - really don't need MoR).

But because of the skill properties of Blackout (touch range) and the way PvE is built - eg. monsters that are completely unbalanced - and some idiotic ideas to boot - eg. the armour cap which single-handedly removed the freedom of movement for squishes (unless everyone is running around with PS on them) - you prolly won't see any cookies involving it anytime soon.

The Mesmer is supposed to be good because of fast casting.

Most of the mesmer spells take a while to cast.

The problem really is that FC doesnt synch too well with its own skills. The skills do fine without FC. The interrupts in the domination, while powerful, do not warrant enough usage to dedicate a full mesmer build when you can just put on power drain and leech signet on any mesmer secondary.

However....AI is much much better at spreading interrupts around (albeit without regards to priority of certain skills to interrupt), without needing to camp specific enemies.

E-Denial was great, and its been nerfed very heavily, and that doesnt work as well in PVE anyway.

As others have pointed out, hex stacking can be done with other classes.

i have an idea for a fast castin skill that might make mesmer more desirable.

the next 2 spells you cast do not take adavantage from your fast castin attributes but inflict +15..+40 damage to foe.

cos u're takin that extra time to use a spell (even though u are high on fast castin)..... durin that time u're also able to sneak some damage in there with a sneaky hit your foe doesnt see.

i know it will be rediculed but whatever....

The advantages of having E/Me or N/Me over Mesmer is the energy bonus they have. However, that being said I counter this with a hero with br and I don't have much energy problems at all. The Bonus like others have mentioned is the FC which you do not get with Ele or Necro primary. Hence, making Mes more effective in my opinion.
