Then everyone would see the time and effort we put in this expansion for the community." I am just bored lol. The sentence saying that "the reskins make sense because it fits in with the lore of the land" is an actual statement made by Gaile in her Gaile Talk Forum, what a lame statement. But for the majority, the OP is right and i never have ranted before on the forums until GWEN came out. I care what the future products might hold if i enjoyed the other campaigns and was upset at this new expansion. |

I agree to the OP. PvP did not get anything, ok... as a PvEer I can live with that.
But I cannot live with the fact that ANet thinks PvE needs no challenges or proper game design. Today I told many people, I have to take a break from GW, it just has become dull. It was never hard, but now it becomes even more repetitive and boring.
Darkrime Delves is/was the most boring gaming experience I had in a while.
FUN seems to be to ride a Siege Devourer and nuke groups of Charr that line up so that I can nuke them all at once. If your friend has the 2nd Devourer, forget about the game.
It is maybe too late, but for GW2 you should ask yourself if you want to make a proper PvP game OR a proper PvE game.
The OP already pointed out, it is impossible to fail in a dungeon, and if you have DP, tadaa, a powerstone takes care of that.
The more I played GWEN, the more i got disappointed. All that looked promising and interesting then suddenly re-appeared copied & pasted. Even the armors, at least some are okay.
But how does this unpolished, unfinished and lazy product called GW:EN fit into the "philosophy" and "vision" of ANet.
You again showed some great ideas, it is almost cruel to see how little you made out of them.

Those of you saying that people on forums do not represent the majority and that dev's shouldn't bother listening to forumites are sadly misinformed. One of the primary job's of a PR or CR from a gaming company is to connect with the game's community through forums. Do you think they made accounts here on Guild Wars Guru to look up builds? Hardly. The condecending things this community has grown accustomed to dealing with from ANet staff is not how a company usually strives to interact with it's leading forum communities.
There was never any doubt in my mind that hard mode was "coming." The question is when.
There have been plenty of things in the past that they have indicated were "coming" that then either didn't show up for months, or didn't show up at all. Remember how they were cooking up an immediate fix to allow players into The Deep and Urgoz' Warren without requiring the aid of a capitol city player (a "taxi")? That wasn't released until the Nightfall campaign was almost immediately on everyone's mind, months and months later. I could list more examples, but this one came to mind, and is ideal because it deals with "elite content" that the average Joe player wanted to be granted access to.
If I were ANet and I had built the product the way they did theirs, I would hold Hard Mode back for at least six months. This content has to carry people all the way to Guild Wars 2 (in their business model) and it's going to be easily another two years before GW2 release.
I don't really care how long the wait is, but a direct answer or estimate from ANet would be a huge leap in the right direction as far as community relations. The ball is in their court, but so far it looks like they don't even want to play.

However...the vast majority of players don't post, and Anet will always favor the vast majority over the vocal minority.

People buy GWEN more or less because they see "40 new armors". They are not wrong AT ALL to expect something cool out of the game. Let me ask you this: You buy something in real life expecting to get something as stated on the box. But then when you open the box you find out that it's not quite what you expect, despite the fact that you don't expect anything beyond what the box says and your past experience with the products to begin with. What would you say? Would you go "Oh. I understand. The company must not has enough resource/time/idea/whatever to do any better. I guess I'll have to take it as it is and buy another box when it's out"? I HIGHLY DOUBT IT. And this isn't any different. |
But anyone who played gw for past two years with open eyes should have known how anet does stuff: They tend to create huge buzz, but they deliver late and what they give you is underwhelming.
Did you really have enough faith in them to produce good armors?
Only reason we have 18 dugeons and 40 armor sets is because someone was stupid and mentioned numbers to public. Since then then couldnt silently down numbers and axe lets inspired designs.

At the same time I am conflicted with you, the arour is reskined? What else do you want a higher Al so the unbalnce you speak of becomes even more so? Not everyone can afford to rush out and buy gwen to get the better stats you speak of. Remember everything in every game must be balanced because of the link between them. When I started GW I knew PvP was supposed to be the mainstay of the game and this was true. Before factions, nightfall, and gwen all we had for pve was the story line, Fow, and UW for things to do. We had no titles to work for, no green weapons to go hunt. The PvE was really limited as a game and after you finished the PvE side you either took up PvP or got bored and left. The GW team has done a TREMENDOUS job at Implementing a new PvE aspect of the game. You say Guildwars is not catering to the PvE player because they have money in the bank they have no need to. Now that is true but they also want to release new games and have success with them as well right? You can't expect people to support you if you have no support. Anet does not hold an MMO monopoly and has a huge battle to fight to earn players into their game vs. another MMO. I don't know what more they can do to turn an Pvp based game more into pve without doing what they are doing. I think you will see GW2 to be much more Pve based as the team knows now that a huge player base of Pve players wants to play guild wars. You can't just take the model a game was build on and change it up so darsticaly the game dosen't even fit with what it says on the box. That is why they are making GW2, if you read you will see they decided to make GW2 to make their system better for all players and to have a more versatile, longer lasting game than the origional game alows for. So you do have valid points when it comes to Gwen, it is debateable on the difficulty of the game but you do need to remeber all of the people that are not as good as you, maybe that play the game casualy, why leave someone out because he can only play 1 hour a day and dosen't have time to get all the greatest skills, builds, weapons, and armour. But trying to say the play system is flawed and that theuy provide no support is kind of outrageous imo. I don't know what more you could want them to do. If the game style is not what you like then maybe it is time to find a new game for a while and check back in a year or two and see if it has changed in your favor. There are a LOT more people enjoying the game than disliking it. The dev teams can see every player that comes on and off they can see when they have the most users playing and when they have a lul. The guild wars world is a closely monitored world and you can bet expansions like gwen were designed around the majority of what game researchers thought players would want. Their job is not to make you happy their job is to make money, unfortunatly for them making you happy is something that must happen to make money. Think of it as an annoyance for them not a will. So on an end note, do i agree with most of the things you said? Hell Yes! I am just trying to show the cold hard facts of how it all really works and why it can't really be any other way right now. |
I do agree with you, especially the part I put in bold.

Why don't they fit in with the story? It makes sense that Droknar greens are items that dropped in Chapter 1 etc
GW:EN is just an exspansion of Chapter1. Everyone who was expecting brand new everything were sadly deluding themselves.

I guess ultimatly there are 3 reasons why people are so disappointed with GWEN imo.
1. The armor isn't new, in fact its nothing that couldn't already be done by players with texmod... very disappointing.
2. Relatively short when you don't grind each of the 4 races titles even if you do all 18 dungeons.
3. HoM has proven to be dissapointing to the community for various reasons.
All are founded thoughts. Anyone who doesn't agree that SOME (at the very least) changes need to be made is either blindly standing by GWEN or was expecting a poor game already.

The only problem is that they stated it would be a lvl 20 content area, with 40 new armors and all that other stuff.
When I hear lvl 20...I don't think of those lvl 18 mesmers in the Asuran areas, I was thinking of legit challenging lvl 28 charr with dual professions. (They got half of that right, thank goodness)
The problem is that the content really isn't THAT new.
Only thing I really like are the chaos gauntlets and the destroyer weapons.
The green endgames are such pieces of shit though....omfg.

Yes, because the official forums contain all 9 million players. Just as Guild Wars Guru carries 4 million accounts for all the copies held.
