Cyndr the Mountain Heart [Merged]
Mavrik
I'm stuck on this mission Heart of the Shiverpeaks where I have to retrieve the great hammer and kill Cyndr the Mountain Heart which is a giant Wurm. Apparently you need to weaken its armor with dwarven black powder kegs but he always whips out my party in one or two hits before I can drop a single keg. This is really pissing me off...

Cyndr the who??
Can't remember having trouble with him, and tried to go back and see what the issue is but i only got Magmus at the end.
You are right about the barrels weakening his armour.
I do remember having Gwen in the party and interupting everything, left right and centre.
Also i run a lot of armour ignoring spells like SS/SV etc.
Interupts are key to all Dungeon bosses imo.
Good luck though.
See previous post as there are a huge thread on this already...

Search *rarely* works for me - I used several combinations of Cyndr's name and the quest name and none of the threads you posted came up. I mostly got threads sellings whatever weapon Cyndr drops.
His thread was a legitimate post asking a reasonable question - please do not be so quick to jump in and play *forum police*

I used 3 toucher heroes, 2 monk henchies, the earth hench and the interupter. He was dead before i could drop the second keg.

I hope you don't end up getting the dwarf-bug. It sucks. The dwarf got stuck at the cave entrance (or rather appeared to be stuck at the cave entrance). Anyone who ran to him to get a keg actually turned around, ran to the center of the room where a keg miraculously appeared in our arms from thin air. What I think is the dwarf was actually IN the center of the cave, but the game was showing his toon at the entrance.
I did it with a PUG, and it worked fine after that. All of us had a keg, he spawned, we blew his armor off.
** The search function for these forums almost always provides "for sale" results rather than any of the actual strings I inputted into the field. I'm pretty darn good finding stuff using search strings on the net, but the search here is really quite . . . different.

This mission is really difficult with a Hero/Hench group but becomes easy with a PUG. Even with only 3 human players. Have everyone do nothing but pick up and drop barrels and Cynder goes down fast.
Good luck.

If you want to do it without using armour ignoring damage.
(Brown Circle is Cyndr)
Picture focuses on one spawn area, but can be applied to all. Flag all heroes far enough apart so that cyndrs AoE hits only one flag at a time (Making sure they're not on lava). While your team keeps the worm busy, you can run the barrels you need to weaken his hide.
If he shifts position, just re-flag and repeat; Took me two repetitions of this to take him down.
I used a Me hero + zho interrupt set up. Obviously he got pyro off each time, but due to the spread he only hit one. Most of his other attacks were shut down.
The set up I used (as a warrior bear in mind) is as follows:
Gwen: OQNDAowjOXgcgGID0A6BEB0I
Olias: OANCUsxCQXFlMaoI4hMhJA
Master: OQNDAowjOXgcgGID0A6BEB0I

i beat him, at 60 dp with all henchies and heroes, all i had was a speed buff
heres how:
after a while, cynder moves over to the dwarf guy who gives you the bomb thingies. bind a key to drop item(i bound . (period)) and after cynder used his super death skill and wiped my party( it missed me because i had run ahead of them with the speed buff, i used air magic one, forgot its name) and spammed barrels, if you can survive for 5 seconds spamming barrels as fast as you can, then youve won
so just press space.space.space.space.space.space. really really fast and you win, no special build needed

There is a whole thread about this few pages back. If you are don't him H/H use rangers and/or mesmers to keep him dazes/locked while you go after barrels.
If pug, have ranger with BHA daze him, and warrior with flail interrupting.
Was there really need for another thread about cyndir?

I used an SS hero, Dunkoro as a healer hero with the lamest skill set possible, Jora with her default build, Mhenlo, the prot hero, the interrupt hero and either the blood hero or the earth hero. I'm a dervish.
They were grouped together, but the AOE didn't kill them. Prot henchies really rock my world.

Simple boss to kill. Helps to have 1 healer, 1 protector, ranger if you can get one that interupts, definatly tank and perhaps ele's and a necro with br.
Step 1. Everyone under protection skills drop kegs at boss's feet (3 required).
Step 2. BOOM! *aaaah shields are down, taking dmg to teh manifold!* Unleash the fury within...
Step 3. Collect your shineys from the chest provided.

I was completely unprepared for the beastie.....at 60 DP, I got on wiki and tried to figure out if it was even worth bothering with, or if I should start over....I could NOT get Cyndr even close to our favorite explosive mongerring dwarf. It decided to start over: Me and three R/N heroes, all as touchers, Heal and Prot Henchie monks, Earth Henchie and Blood Necro. All touchers equipped with different Useful Elites: Grenth's Balance, Life Transfer, BiP (just curious how each would work) and we waded in...took 1/3 the time to get there and was almost anti-clamactic the way the Cyndr fell with only the loss of a single henchie...touchers FTW!

I've killed him in first try with my Para but for some reason my Rit is unable to do that (H/H). What's interesting is that he is much harder than endgame boss. That's beyond my understanding.

if there's one mission that's actually easier in a pug than h&h, this is it. Have everyone grab a keg before hitting the hammer, and it should all be smooth sailing from there.
I forget the outpost, but there's usually a pug forming in trade chat. Since the way down to Cyndr is fast and pretty easy, not much chance of a bad pug ruining it. Just have everyone get a keg and he'll be down in no time.

RPG games. Cool, but why cheapen one of the coolest boss battles in the game? It's a lot of fun to run this fight properly minus touchers too.
I'd recommending finding your own way unless you're really and truly stuck.

I will try all your advice thanks. I was victim of the "bug" apparently because the wurm appeared in the center of the room and the dwarf stayed at the entrance. I was killed trying to run back and forth. I brought Gwen so I guess I'll have to try again... Otherwise maybe I'll have to team up with some of you who are pros at this.

i used 3 monks me as 1 ogden , and the prot henchman,SS hero SV hero.. a tank and the Earth hency.. use prot spirit on evry 1 , get keg drop on him and then let SV and SS kill him

While it is a nice on,e Master is having trouble with it and refuses to cooperate.

I managed to defeat him on my second try using H/H (and no cheaty bugs ) I kept degen on him (poison and bleeding) so that he wouldn't regenerate health as we died lol.
Me - Ranger Runner + Degen

Tahlkora as Prot spam
Gwen as Dominatrix Interupter ( lol)

I think its a lot easier with a PUG, so then you can all get kegs and make him lose his shell quickly, most of the time when i have PUG'ed we have got him to 1/10 or no health by the time he burrows.

Absolutely true. Managed to do it with 6 players, one prot monk and a rt healer being the only healers available. We just kept running the kegs, and got a bit lucky that the last part he spawned next to that dwarf.
-Loki-
Just get the group to run kegs to him. He'll be dead in no time. Occasionally Cyndr will explode someone running a keg, but not often.

I have to try this boss it sounds fun =D.

Can be done without using the kegs at all.
I took Gwen in my h+h party, supplying her with interrupts, energy stealing and elite disabling skills.
Controlling the cast order manually while tanking the worm made it a success.
Maybe it took a little longer, but no one died except the worm.
And I avoided the annoying "hide in the ground when carapace is down action"

Cyndr may be a bit erratic these days. Certainly Cyndr is more difficult with a H/H group. With multiple real people, everyone spamming kegs will get the job done quickly and easily. I took my first character (an ele) through before the Cyndr-buff with H/H and easily beat him with two SV heroes.
I took my warrior through last night with H/H and did all of the things you are supposed to do to beat him and I was thoroughly defeated. He insta-killed anyone he hit (from full health) and, perhaps most annoying, his health regen was amazingly fast. I would take his carapace down and was able to damage him, sometimes all the way to 10% health, but when he burrowed, by the time he resurfaced he was fast on his way to 100% health and was always back to 100% by the time I dropped the next keg. Very annoying.
I did him again today with the exact same team build, the only change being that I took Sprint and Protective Spirit on my own bar. I may have used PS once, and I used Sprint often. Cyndr fell easily. He did not insta-kill anyone and there may have only been one or two H/H deaths, and each was quickly resurrected. When his carapace fell the first time, we got him down to about 5% health before he burrowed again. When he re-emerged, he definitely was NOT regenning health like he was last night. I was able to drop three kegs before his health was even up to 50%, and he died fairly soon after.
Anyway, my observation was that last night his health regenerated ridiculously fast, while today it did not. Last night appeared to be very difficult (if not impossible) with H/H, while today it was very doable. So either his behavior is somewhat erratic, or a simple speed buff for running the kegs makes a world of difference.
My team was me (D-Slash war), MoW and Livia (blood necros), Sousuke (SH ele), Mhenlo, Lina, Herta, Zho.

Noticed early he seemed immune to pain inverter now. Killed him twice last week with it, and today the hex would cast, but not hex him. Also he was bleeding today, which people said he was not able to do.

He's still easy enough to kill with H/H. No kegs necessary. No waiting for him to get up close and personal with Budger.

We were able to take the kegs over to Cyndr and kill him on the first try.

it took me about 4/5 runs at the guy before i got lucky (in his spawn location). 4 runs of me swearing at my monitor and getting told off by the wife. On the 5 attempts he spawned next to the dwarf straight away. a quick game of track and field later with bomb dropping and he was dead

Take away his HP regen? That may be too much of a nerf. Maybe just slow down how fast his shell regens.

It really pays to do it with a group or I might not have gotten my green staff out of the chest.

I managed to HH this after the "buff" or whatever it is that people are calling it. Yes, it was a pain, but it was doable. The big thing is to make sure you have a monk hero with prot spirit and shield of deflection or shield of regen.
Keep the hench back until you're ready to run the final keg, then spread them out around the room, run the final keg and spam degen. It is pretty easy to keep Cyndr at -10 degen, inspite of his regen with a blood necro and an illusion mesmer. Since the degen continues while he does his duck for cover routine, you're still doing damage till he comes up for air. Signal the hench back as soon as he goes to hide, and do the keg run all over again. Third keg, get the hench around him and spam that degen. You should not need a third keg run.
And yes, his shell DOES prevent degen working, so you do have to take it down.
