Cyndr the Mountain Heart [Merged]
Painbringer
Finished this last night took me as a touch blood necro and 2 touch ranger Heroes. I had another monk set as protection tried to get him to bond us but it did not work? Could not kill the worm until the worm spawned by the dwarf. Luckily I had a candy cane for myself and I bonded a key to drop the keg. I blasted the worm to death, and I was the last man standing. The rest of my meat puppets died.
Also took my team with no changes to builds to the next mission and we touched the destroyers to death. Awesome

I've been several times with just henchies/heros, or only 1 other human, with little problem--the key is to spread your team out (more than the distance from you to the edge of your aggro circle). You might loose one or two, but the mission is not so bad (in normal mode, mind you!)

well i set my warrior as Grenths balnce tank(slightly modified), had 1 monk hero and 2 MM's hero(wouldnt recomend), 1 henchie monk, 1 henchie tank, 1 henchie ele, and 1 henchie mesmer, and just flagged them right above him ran back and forwards to get bombs(not letting myself be healed) once i removed his armor i n=made him bleed, then GB'd him and let myself get lower then his halfway of life GB'd him again did the bombs made him bleed put a deep gash in him and he died, then did practically the same thing when running my ranger guildie, except i got the ranger guildie to do the bombing, and not either of them 2 times i died at all

You can hide against a wall (the mouth of the tunnel that exits into Cyndr's chamber) and have a ranger plink away at him with arrows and poison. It can be done at 60% dp, and with H+H. Just keep trying until you get him to spawn next to Budger.

Me: Mo/E
Guildie: W/E
Heros: three monks (smite, heal, protect), dervish (Melandru), SS, Vek Hydromancer.
We had 1 party wipe getting to Cynder. We flagged the heros at the mouth of Cynder's lair and both guildie and myself took a ket and ran towards Cynder. The monks protected both of us and once the last keg dropped (we picked up one more each), we unflagged the heros and crushed him.
No one died, except Cynder. Ne never had a chance to even recover in time.

Sorry to resurrect this, I know everyone is probably sick of it. I just want to get some clarification on a few points.
A lot of these threads have people posting about how to beat this boss, saying that it is SO easy, but most of them beat it before all the nerfs. So I want to ask a few key points:
1) Does life stealing still work with his carapace still up, and if so would it be a good idea to go in with 3 life stealing heroes?
2) Do any degens work with his carapace up (hexes, poison, etc.)?
3) Is the keg spam nerfed?
4) Are touch rangers still effective while his carapce is up?
5) If you want to H/H this and your primary is a monk, should you attempt to remove the carapace or go another route?
Thanks ya'll.

I did this last night using Sab's triple necro build. Me (P/W para support), three necros heroes, and Herta, the two monks and one of the warriors.
Took 27 min start to finish with no deaths.

Nope, Sab's triple necro didn't work for me. I party wiped before I had a chance to target him. Maybe I just got unlucky. He spawned right underneath us. Why is this so easy for everyone else? What am I doing wrong? Is it because as a monk I cannot get any barrels to him? After I party wiped I was able to bring down his carapace, and we got him down to half health, but by the time I even got one barrell to him at his next spot he was full health.
Marty Silverblade
I did this with a Warrior about a week ago, and I didn't find it too hard. Just prioritise blowing off his carapace and dealing craploads of damage to him while vunerable. He's actually quite weak without his carapace, so you'll only need to blow it off twice (3 times if you're unlucky or have weak damage dealers.)
Quaker
One tactic I used (H&H) which may help (rather than completely revamping your party, skills etc.) is to use the individual flags to position your heroes around him, spaced far enough apart - like, one on the left, one on the right and one in middle. Either use the main flag to position the rest near enough so the healers can keep your heroes alive, or just let them run around after you, like I did. Then run back and forth from the powder guy until his armor goes down.
Chthon
Did this the other day by just tanking him with a wammo and it was remarkably, remarkably easy. Almost as easy as SV was before it was nerfed. Just flagged the heroes back for a minute while I ran in, then sat there and swung away while Cynder bit me and one of my two live teammates ran kegs. The monk had little trouble healing me since no one else was taking any damage.

All of those are great suggestions...if you are not a monk. Is it possible to HH this being a monk? Maybe I'm on at the wrong time (evenings CDT), but I can never find a single person doing the quest to party with.
Sheriff
Just guessing here since I've never done the quest with a monk, but you might be able to play as a bonder, bond a few of your heroes/henchies and stay on a safe place while your condition/hexes H+Hs deal with it
Mohnzh
You can't hex or condition him to death anymore, right?
Sheriff
Not sure if you can kill Cyndr just with conditions/degen hexes - but they certainly help.
I've never tried Pain Inverter on it but since it works on most other bosses, it's possibly a good solution for Cyndr as well?

Pain Inverter is also nerfed against Cyndr until the carapace is down. I think only life stealing works against him until carapace is down, but I usually party wipe two or three times before I can get it down because I am a monk .
x-stunt-x
easy go with a team that can carry kegs hint from a-net start playing with real people!

ive done it solo 3 times... its really easy all you need is hench. for anything in gwen actually hench will usually pwn.

Yes its fairly easy as a monk to do cynder. I did it as a Smite monk 2 of my heros where dual shot/nightmare wapon rangers 1 BHA and the other ranger had dis shot, Ele mind blast was my 3rd hero, and for henchies I took Devona, Mehnlo, Lina, Cynn. No consumables only 1 wipe. He was dead shortly after his carapace went down the second time. Just spread your heros/henchies out a little with them still able to cover each other with healling. While you run barrels.
Pucca
I killed him on my Monk with 3 Heroes using Touchway and Talon causing a deepwound. All I did was use LoD a few times and no one even died. If you wanna kill him with no hassle i suggest you try it.

Bloodsong (and possibly Vampirism) steal life off Cyndr without needing to break the carapace.
So just spread the H/H around, plant a Bloodsong and let it do the job

If you are trying to solo just use life stealing or armor penetrating skills on you and heroes.
Otherwise you being the only barrel runner with the retarded barrel exploding delay and the fact he will no longer pop up near the barrel guy , not even close to him anymore, (new nerf so I have been told), makes it impossible to get his armor down before half your team is dead waiting for you too.

I just tried Cyndar twice and can confirm it no longer spawns any where near the barrel guy.
Not only that it has been buffed big time!
It can now hit you anywhere in the room no matter where he spawns and its pyroclast spell has been increased in hit strength as well as the speed in which it casts/recasts it. I would say it has been notched up about 33% at least. With no DP it kills in two hits easy and recasts so fast you get hit twice before you can get a single heal most of the time. Once you have more than 20% DP it kills in a single hit so you might as just give up at that point because your whole team will be dead as soon as you enter the room. It is like hardmode now with out being in hardmode.
Before when I have fought Cyndar I would bring three necros with health stealing the earth hench, zho the interrupter and healer henches. I would spread the necros out flag the henches close enough to give heals to them and me. While the necros would do their thing I would run barrels. By the time I did three barrels most health would be gone and I would unflag henches and finish him.
Now no hero or hench had any DP and when I first entered the room this time before I could even flag anyone three on the team were dead. I set flags and was dead as I grabed first barrel, and the rest of team died. Flags still up, respawned and half the team was dead before they even got to their flagged position and I was dead again before I got two steps from the barrel guy.
Even spitirts than I spawn are instakilled as fast as I spawn them that was when I even could.! If you stop moving for even a second your dead!
I believe its AI has been buffed as well because it knows who has the barrel and what direction your coming from, it kills me before I get to it 90% of the time no matter if I zig zag or try to circle around from behind. Where as before it would not pay much attention to who had it just attack who was attacking it.

Looks like touchers still win that mission.
I do suspect some sort of recent buff to Cyndr, though, at least in that his Pyroclastic Shot can now hit keg-runners who have speed buffs. I had not done the mission in about a month or so. In every time I did it before then, I used to flag the H/H and then use a speed buff on myself to run the kegs. He never hit me even once when I had the speed buff. Yesterday, though, I took my mesmer through, with a speed buff, and she got plunked with his Pyro Shot every time, never missed. I ended up having to pug it. So it looks like Cyndr's aim has improved, at least.

Im not sure why everyone is having so much trouble wiht him...he was very easy..
Olias was a SV necro but didnt do squat. Would have been way easier if he was toucher and if i had pain inverter.
People cant just use their normal hero/henchie builds and expect to magically kill him. You have to change your builds to counter what your up against.
Touching is by far the easiest way, but if for some reason you dont want to try iit bring skills like mantra of flmae, frigid armor, extinguish, wards, etc..

Thanks for the offer, Marty. If touch rangers don't work for me, I will look for you.
EDIT:
Touch Rangers ftw.
Got it, thanks for all your help.
For other struggliing monks, I used the builds shown by Mark Nevermiss and tried to get expertise at 12+3+1, blood at 12, and wilderness survival at 3+1 for each of the rangers.
My build was 11+3+1 healing, 12 prot, 6+1 divine favor with the following skills:
1) LoD
2) Heal Party
3) Prot Spirit
4) Healing Breeze
5) Aegis
6) Pain Invertor (rank 8 Asura)
7) Vital Blessing
8) Blessed Signet
Flagged each hero right next to Cyndr, but each at a different compass point (N, E, S, W) and flagged the other henchmen (Herta, Lina, Cynn, Talon) at the last compass point. Tried to get Vital Blessing on each of the rangers and prot spirit on me or them. Spam LoD as fequently as possible, blessed signet as soon as it recharges. Finished with 40% DP, went in with 7%. Res shrined twice. I did not need to tell the heroes what skills to use, I let them do it on their own. Heal Party, Aegis, and Pain Invertor were brought more for encounters on the way, healing breeze to counter poison and burning.
Thanks again for all the help!

Just curious, do heroes know correctly how to play "touchie", or do they have to be manually controlled?

I think they will do fine, they use either spam happy stuff or reactive stuff. Heroes are good at both.
