Hey Anet Let's have a No Heroes No Henchies Weekend??!
Red Sonya
Yeah that sounds great /signed. Except of course still allow them in the H V H arenas, but, take them out of PVE to promote GROUPING and PUGGGING and all around FAMILY FUN TOGETHERNESS.
From all the bitching and moaning about not being albe to use heroes and henchies everywhere this would be a nice change once inawhile to get people back together again. I think Heroes were bad for the game myself even though I do enjoy their power they just made finding groups and pugs that much harder because more people began to rely on heroes than on each other. So, let's have a No Heroes and No Henchies weekend.

Anet would have empty servers ready for maintenance that way...

I've an idea, why don't you play with no heroes and no henchies for a weekend?
Dev121
Only if we can mix it in with a one hit kill from players weekend, only im sure some PUGS would still fail.

I hate everyone outside my alliance.
Does that say enough?

Playing with real people is so much more fun. If I wanted a solo experience, I wouldn't be playing an MMO.

... only if they kick all the retards from the game, too.
Ooops. There goes 99% of the GW population.

I think it would be great. I've mused about it before. Such an anti-social cynical lot around here anyway, lol. I use heroes and henchmen just like anyone else, but have to admit I miss the early Prophecies days where even doing a quest you had people forming parties. Its just for the weekend. People actually CAN work together in a party when they need to. I remember seeing it happen, but alas its something lost in the mists of legendary days long past.
Probably wont happen. Too many people so vocally against it. I think it'd be a hoot myself.

How about "You Play Your Way and I Will Play Mine"? In fact, that could be every day and not just for a weekend.

Forcing people to play with others = bad. Why? Most of the PvE population suck. The weekend would be horrible. All the good players would be playing with their guild/alliance/friends, while the people who enjoy to keep to themselves are either forced to not play at all, or group with the rest of the horrible GW players.

As others have said you are free to not play with h/h. But dont go pushing your playstyle on others.

I for 1 would not play if A-Net had this sort of weekend. I WILL NOT be forced to play with a bunch of whiny kids. There is nothing worse then being forced to join a pug team. I personally like just running with guildies and aliance members. And with the hours I can be on, that doesnt get to happen often. So its usually just my husband and myself. We both prefer it that way. So i say to this little thing: let dont and say we did.
Besides have you been in the Kodash Bazaar at 3 A.M. (U.S. Central time)? the place is empty except for 2 or 3 afkers. So good luck getting a group there. Not gonna happen. There are a LOT of places empty of players when i can be on and it would be impossable to play the hours I can play. So once again...bad idea.

Oh and by the way, no one even remotely musing on the concept was meaning to or is forcing any particular play style upon anyone else. The OP's idea was a weekend event, not permanent. Even knowing it would never happen, one can afford to lighten up a little.
It really was fun sometimes to have full player teams doing things and succeeding and I cannot remember the last time I experienced that regularly - somewhere back in Factions. I drop into PUGs now and again for the fun of it, but like you say, its not quite the same, and its soon back to H/H or a friend+6. I suppose I had too many good experiences in PUGs up until NF. So many others dont seem to have that. Too bad. Heroes are workign just fine now as it is in terms of getting things done. Its just different.
CyberMesh0
Wouldn't mind it myself, but only if I had access to passable pugs. Oh, wait... I'd be pugging now if passable pugs existed.
grottoftl
you know sometimes i wonder for those players who want force grouping and deny soloers of things like the original poster. i get the feeling they dont have any friends in real life and are desprately looking for friends online. and when they see someone else doing something alone or dont feeling like grouping with them, they get angry and is trying to find a way to force those players to group with them. i am guessing its not true though or is it?
seriously you should accept everyone's playstyle and stop trying to be a dictator while forcing others to play your way. i play with others and my guild mostly, if someone else solo all the time it wont effect me. like in another thread my main reason for playing mmo's is to play its entire content, the grouping and soloing doesnt concern me about the game

Everyone against seems to have the same reason as me. Pugs make suicide look good. I made the mistake of joining a pug for the second shing jea mission (forget the name) and the lvl 20 sin who was supposed to help us had crap armor and was set as a 55. WTF a 55 sin? Thats what people deal with in pugs. If on said weekend you can remove the retards that ruin pugs I will be happy to play without H/H. Until then, no thanks.

ummm NO!!!!!!! although a no hero/hench weekend would empty the overloaded/laggy servers. last time i played in a PuG was about 2 months into factions. after going through arborstone with a warrior trying to play healer because he said he wasnt using max armor because he wanted to buy 15k armor was the final straw when it came to playing with people not in my guild or an alliancemate. i learned to play with henchies, found their weakness and learned to work around it. when nightfall came out i got my heros skilled up, max damage weapons and customized them with runes. made things much easier. i wouldnt mind being able to carry a 4th or 5th hero in the party but we know A-Nets stance on that
Darkobra
I went into a PUG recently. 7/8 didn't bother to carry a res. The elementalist had a highly energy demanding fire build with no elites or attunements. The elementalist told every one to stay back while the warriors ran off ahead. What was the elementalist telling every one to stay back from? Two torment claws that we can range with safety. She was running ALL THE WAY BACK, PULLED a group into the group we were currently fighting and got us all killed. So yeah. YOU play with no heroes or henches all you want and don't force the stupidity of others onto the rest of us who actually know how to play the game.
Did you ask him if it was drawn to a 1:1 scale?

For one weekend, to see how it goes. Will be nice to see what the community thinks (besides the people who follow what everyone else says on the forums, and who have no say in anything themselves.

The majority of players that need to pug do so because they have no clue how to play the game themselves and fail all the time with H/H. Why should decent players be forced to play with such dimwits that use mending and flare?
Woop Shotty
Likewise, the world could have a no motorized transportation weekend. You know, maybe we'll discover that we actually don't like getting places in no time.

The good players will be playing with people they know, or not playing at all. The bad players will be trying to pug, or not playing at all.
Now, you have a bunch of bad players grouping together. They'll most likely fail. After failing so many times, they'll stop playing and start QQing at how bad pugs are.
So now more people know how bad pugs are, less people are going to pug, and less people are going to play on the weekend. You don't need to see how this weekend will go, it's quite obvious.
draxynnic
Hrrmn. It could be an interesting experiment. If you could get enough of the good players back into PUGs... at least temporarily... and the not-so-good players actually LISTENED to any advice they were given rather than sticking to outrageously bad builds, it might actually help matters.
That's a big pair of ifs, though. I imagine that during such a weekend I'd probably try a couple of missions where h/hing them is a little more difficult than usual (missions requiring split parties, running objects, and so on). If they turned out to be as bad as a lot of PUGs have been turning out lately, though, I expect I would use it as an excuse to go do something else.
Given my timezone, I almost certainly would in the evening (for me... past midnight for the States) when there's rarely enough people around to form a group for what I want to do.
I like joining up with and helping people, I really do. Every so often, I'll team up with someone, join a PUG that's close to being ready to go rather than just h/hing a mission, or a group with a core formed from my guild will invite a few of the people asking for a group. More often than not, it turns out that any success we have is despite the invitee(s).
