Feedback on a Minor UI Change (Dimmer names/objects)
eudas
from http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Game_updates:
"To more clearly distinguish items that are outside of combat range, the names of characters and items more than 1,000 feet away now appear in a dimmer color."
1) if these things are 1000 ft away then distance is much weirder than i thought... pls check to make sure that the distance it's activating at is actually the listed distance;
2) i would have thought that if you guys were going to make UI changes, that you would have learned by now to make it a toggle-able option in the General Options area so people can turn it on or off.
Thanks,
Eudas

Yep hate the new change, stuff is way harder to see now.
Ec]-[oMaN
Toggle option now or get rid of this crap feature...
Andisa Kalorn
It's just another useless UI change. I don't like it but it's probably here to stay.

in the Isle of Meditation, the Crafting Material Trader is dark green (meaning far away) from the Xunlai Chest. No way that's 1000ft. Maybe they meant 100 ft? Or maybe 10. ;P
Either way, I'm not a fan of it.

I guess i'm the only one that likes it?? I think it's a neat little change from the normal GUI.
VanDamselx
I really don't like it but I guess it's because there's a really dark box around it too and it really annoys me to see it. Meh..
Sekkira
Useless? What happened to application, people? This is a great change to distinguish targets and their distance from each other when holding ctrl.
MegaPsycho
All it does is dim things outside of aggro range.
This *might* be useful if we can caliberate dimness at different ranges manually

The range is way off, but I do actualy like it for once.
However, a toggle option needs to be put in

uhm, in town this is NOT helpful....trying to find the dang storage or merchant and now I can barely even see the names let alone read them and I sit not 1 foot from my computer screen!
Grunntar
I like the change. I agree that it could useful to have it disabled in town, though...
Lycan Nibbler
/signed for toggle.. dont personally like it but know some might so the option is needed please.
Quid Pro Quo
Not so dim. I say make the closer names brighter than before and the far names less dramatically darker so that they are easily readable.
I think its a good idea just poorly executed.

snikerz
yes toggle please, i would definently have this turned off
Vilaptca
at least if they don't give us a toggle, they can turn it off in towns....its just plain stupid

I love the New Effect ,the old one was so annoying trying to pick out one person in a crowd helps with Screen caps also.
The combat feels alot more realistic were the old effect you could see miles of in the distant loke you had perment Zoom Vision.

This must be one of those things where 10 feet in Maya / 3DSMax / Poser / whatever they use is what looks like 1 inch in the game.
Yeah, I don't mind the new change, but I agree with others that it seems to trigger way closer than claimed.

Either toggle or remove.
Operative 14
I don't really mind it. When I first logged in I found it a little annoying, but I suspect I'll get used to it quickly.
/Signed for toggle option BTW.
Though the 1000 foot measurement has my stymied. The same way that the 30 foot damage radius the Lich Lord has confounds me. I'm going to ask the merchants if they have any rulers on sale...

UI change is irritating. People like crisp and clean, not faded, overlapping and unreadable.
Toggle immediately. Put down that donut/child/eulogy and go do it now.

Whirlwind
Toggle-able please, decent idea but looks horrible in game.
Bryant Again
Not too bad for me, but agreed with what's been said earlier: Make it toggable or don't change it at all. God damn.
Sword
this change sucks
want option to turn this back to normal
want option to turn this back to normal
Kashrlyyk
It just looks so much like an job-creation measure for an bored designer.

Get everyone in a town to stand in a line at touch distance until the first person notices that the farthest person out has changed tone.
At that point, get a screenshot and post up how many people were in line.
Marth Reynolds
i don't like it, instead of nice brigth red coloured enemie bars we now have rotten tomota colour bars when theyre far away...
toggle or remove please..
toggle or remove please..
Jongo River
I like it. I had a fumbling can't click the "right" monk moment just the other day, because there were 2 or 3 mobs behind the one I was engaging - this should help a lot.
I agree on the toggle, though. All changes should be optional.

I was hoping it would help to recognize me the distance to objects better.
This was probably the intention behind it. E.g. help with alt-clicking the right mob when there are tons of other mobs far away behind it.
But it just looks too blurry and does not really do any good but looking bad the way it is now.

Toggle it or scrap this pointless feature
MrSlayer
Wow you people must have pathetic eyesight or gamma settings. Even with the dimmed names in a dark, halloween decorated Lions Arch, I can see the names FINE. Although I agree; there is no WAY that is 1000ft
Anyways, a toggle would be kinda nice.

I like it a lot, but sure, a toggle would be welcome.

I find it a bit annoying but I can live with it.

Perspective.
the further away the dimmer the color, hence lets you know if its worth the trouble getting there just to pick up something that you thought is 1 mm away, but ended up running 10 thousand steps just to arrive at the drop and found out its worth 39 gold.
When you have the time reputation thing happening (kill 10 enemies to gain 200 reputation points one) when you are in a hurry to find enemies to kill you know which to pick. and you also can tell if its save to kill which enemy group and not aggro the next on, since now if they are dimmed, you know the posibility of aggroing them is not that big, especially the beserkers, even when you don't aggro them they will come charging. off course one can always use the \ key or the tab key.
Plus if you are in a big town with a lot of people, and you press the alt keys, 10 thousand names show up.all looking like they are infront of you. now they don't!
anyway i think its a good idea. happy day!

I didn't even notice the change at first, since it was so minimal, and I figured it's part of LA decoration.
I tried this on two different monitors, LCD and regular, and on both there's not only no problem, the change is mostly unnoticable.
There is a gamma setting for this very purpose - although, I can't imagine how dark everything in game must be, if a slightly paler shade of green becomes so hard to see.
But the range is borked, it's not 1000ft or 300m.
