Voltaic, you missed one in the second image, I can see the scammer's name. Very well done though, that's one of the strangest consumable scams I've seen so far.

There are so many scams, but they're all pretty terrible, and rely on the target being stupid. So really, I never fall for them (except that one time I was half asleep and sold an item for gold instead of platinum...) and expect no one else should...

Not really a scam. But I was taking a nf char thru the proph missions. Hit the northern Shiverpeaks when you can start to get 6 people in the group and saw someone lfg. Thinking I can just add him instead of henchies grab him and go. It was the one where you have to light the 3 beacons at the end. He picks up the torch and tells me to give him 100k for him to light the beacons. I laughed. Had whatever gold I made doing the first couple missions, so maybe 2k. Told him I didn't have that much on me and if I did I would just rerun this anyways. He talked some crap, I typed /dance and watched tv for 10 minutes and came back to find him gone.

Why do people still try this...
Shiney
Because:
A) People probably still fall for it
B) He is an ass
C) Laziness thy name is scammers
D) The 'leet' people deserve all the cool weapons, right? Even if they do scam them from others, they are 'leet' and that makes up for it.

I hate dye scams in pre...I decided to have a little fun with this dye scammer in Ashford, so I played the act of a newb. Unfortunately I forgot to take a screenshot...oh well, next time.
Scammer: "Buying All dyes but brown and gray for 50g each."
My PM to scammer: "I have a black dye."
Scammer: "Ok."
Me: "Scammer!"
Scammer: "Watch your language or I'll report you." (haha I laughed at this, there was no language, and if anyone shopuld get reported, its the scammer, not the person exposing the scammer to the newbs)
Me in Trade chat: *scammer* is a dye scammer!
After that I left Ashford to continue getting more armor. The scammer left Ashford as well.

Most pathetic scam ever is getting a lowballed price check here on Guru, and in the next sentence they try to buy it from you.

All I see is someone trying to buy Dye at a low price, no one has to sell to him. He tells you right up what he's willing to pay, then it's up to you if you want to sell at that price. Cheap trick Yes, but not a scam.
genofreek
Agreed, it's dirty lowballing, but it's not actually a scam. :P

50g is actually 40g more than you would get for green, purple, yellow or orange from the trader in post. Blue and Silver are generally a little more with a healthy profit for red.
Apart from the very rare new player who sells a black or a white to him, his is taking a loss on 4 colors (which probably make up the bulk of his buys) and making a profit on only 3. (of course, he is probably selling to other pre players which gives a small profit even on the cheap dyes).
Over all, I am glad those traders are there. It is worth it to me to give my dyes (except white and black) to him rather than have to try and sell them to other players or send them through to post.

Not a scam as such, but there are certain guild recruiters who spam their recruitment slogans in all caps, local chat, with many exclamation marks and poor spelling/grammar, creating a public irritation. I always report them for spam.

Alright, I just see taking advantage of a noob's ignorance as a scam, but ok.
Edit: Well speaking of pathetic dye scams...I was just in pre again, and this guy was advertising "Buying dye for 2g! That's 1g more than merchant pays!" Now that's pathetic.

Haha! Oh man. People like that get shut down pretty quick.

Currently in Spamadan watching this guy spamming local channels - Will craft you a destroyer weapon! Only 20k!
He insists hes taking orders, doing a run and will be back ASAP with your brand new weapon.
Hmmmm.... Should I give this guy 20k which is well under the cost of the materials needed and then stand around and wait to see if he comes back?
So far he hasnt shown back up here with his 'orders'. Wonder why?

High Moral
Now here is a story for you:
2 years ago, I played the game, and was paying for a Drok run by two guys with simular names. I pay 1k at Rankor and then they run into this little cave very very close.. And ask for the other or they wont run the last 3min. I then figure, whatahell I give him 1 k. And he ports away.
After some time I stop playing.....
Started playing again a month ago or so, and I see this guy that scammed me 2 years ago in Friends list. As a joke I tell him he scammed me of 2k 2 years ago, that was alot of money for me back then. And I want my money back!
He apologizes and gives me 10k..
I was AMAZED! But thanked him greatly, he told me that his little brother use to play and was a real idiot to people.
beat that!

Magevdon is the Man
The Worst one I encountered occurred in my first week or so of playing Guild Wars.
I was incredibly fortunate, acquiring 2 Black Dyes in pre-searing, which before I almost sold them away for practically nothing someone was kind enough to let me know what they were really worth and that a trader was in post.
Anyway, I sold my two black dyes to the trader for 9.5k each (a freakin dream price nowadays)and set out to see if I could get some cool stuff.
I bought a cape, built a new guild, and bought the highest armor Ascalon city could offer, and still had about 16k left over. So I decided I wanted to buy a super cool weapon.
I ASSUMED at the time that there was a clear hierarchy of items in GW, white, blue, purple "gold, then green" - and that any green was excellent and probably out of my price range.
Well It just so happens that a person posts in trade "selling super rare Green sword, pm to see" and I was gearing to get one so i looked.
It Was Victos Blade, and I assume most of you are either snickering or feeling pretty empathetic right now, knowing whats about to happen.
He hard lines his price at 15k, I told him thats all I had (bad move) and he of course said, "do you want it or not, I have not sold one for under 15k so far" So I bought it.
When I found out that Vampiric meant "life degen" I decided I wanted to put it back out on the market and buy something else, and I posted, naively mind you "wts victos blade for 15k"
Suddenly everyone was like "scammer, scammer!" , and I quickly found out that Victos was worth 5k, and almost no one wanted it. Granted I did consent to the trade, but I was new, and he definitely knew what he was doing.
Nowadays I just give greens away to new players, I've got enough money to blow, its just sad some people can't be honest in their trading.

Well... I had just started playing, and I had gotten a black dye in pre-searing. So, as soon as I got to post, I wanted to trade it for a really awesome weapon, right? Well, I had seen the FDS... and thought they were cooler than a pair of frozen underwear. So, I traded my black dye for a max damage, req 9, 15%<50, 18% enchanting FDS...... I didn't realize that it was customized and that I couldn't use it. Bastard got away with my dyes
Vitues
I was in ToA ad1, selling ectoplasm for 4.700k a pop.
Well, not relising anything someone pmed me asking for 21, so i put in 21 for 100k. Well the buyer put in 100g and i quickly relised and cancelled trade and ignored him. 6-7 Hours later, my freinds and i were starting a Fissure Clearing, and my brother was trying to Personal Message Me, but it says i was ignoring him. I scroll through the list to find out my Own Little brother tried to scam me in ToA Earlier on that day. You can never trust them!!!!
Never trust anyone, even your littler brothers *insert cry here*

i wouldn't call it a scam, like going to kamadan and saying WTB Sword 5k, if somone offers somthing nice`(20k+ weapon) your still offering 5k.
but if he delceins all non-black dyes then tis a scam

Laughingly I have 2 more to add that have sprung up in the past few mins in Kaineng Disct 1.
Trade channel - WTS Perfect q9 Crystalline 25k
Of course I ask to have a peep. The seller puts up...... wait for it......
a 14-20 white Highlander blade.
And promptly dissapears when I point out that its not a crystalline.
Another seller spaming in local WTS Hale Spinal Staff 50K
After a bit of wrangling back and forth trying to explain that he may be asking a tad too much his response is this:
Amusingly he is still currently whispering me trying to convince me how good his is at ripping off 'the idiots in this game' despite being told Im screenshotting it for this thread.
Honestly. If youre trying to scam at least be half good at it!
