What is the most pathetic scamming attempt that you encountered?
Turbobusa
Some guy tried to scam my runic blade using the unyielding aura thing. I wanted to have fun so I played the game. The problem was that he was a warrior, so it took like 10 minutes for him to rezz me. Once he succeded, I dropped a tournament token. Seeing the gold text, he stops unyielding aura, get the token and start saying, "hahahahaha I got you!!!!"
5 minutes later he pm'd me saying "OMFG YOU SCAMMED ME IT HAS NO USE1!!1"

when gw became 1 year and the mini invasion came, i wanted to buy some minis. a guy wanted to trade me 1 major illusion magic rune, a starter necro rod and a puple dye. He told me that if i buy that those things would magically change into a mini rurik, believe it or not...

When Sorrow's Furnace came out, some guy in droks was offering to run people to a supposed new area called Diamond Mines for 5k each. There were people calling him a scammer in all channels. Pretty funny since I ran the whole area and saw no such place.

Sometimes, when buying something for 1.5k, I have offered 1 plat and 5 gold by mistake. >_<

Buying Ectos 9k each.
combatchuck
There's usually a guy in LA selling moa eggs for 2K. They usually get mad when you offer them for free.
Croco Clouds
Some stupid ppl said they can melt Frozen ecto into regular ecto in Ember Light Camp at a cost of 1k each and they'll come back in 5 min.

I don't see a problem in selling them for 2k, although it would be nice to give them away for free. Some might buy them, as they don't have the Ascalon-area on their map (if they came from NF or Factions) and would have to get a run for some k. (But I wouldn't do it)
Most annoying scam is still... if they try to pay 5g instead of 5k etc...
And there are not only scammers out there. I once made a mistake and paid 10x the price we agreed on. Few seconds after the trade I noticed it, and the seller gave it back to me immediately.

worst/best scam to me was wen i asked the scammer to have my 200 ectos back and he said ok:S
acerbity
when i was level 17, i was in lions arch when someone said they'd run me to anywhere i wanted for 200 gold. I didnt even ask, it was completely out of the blue..
so i asked him if hed run me to kaieng city (to see if he was scamming) he said yes.. so to make sure he was scamming i asked if hed run me to "skarming buugr" and he replied "yea, but that'll cost an extra 100 gold".

The worst attempted scam I've ever encountered was about a year after release, so I don't remember the details. But some person in Ascalon City was advertizing that they could forge a special weapon for people out in Old Ascalon, so I PM'd that person and they said that they could do it, but they'd need 250g for the process to work (whatever it was). My final question was "Should we go outside, or should I just report you for scamming now?" The answer I got was something along the lines of "OMG! Please don't report me! My mom will kill me if I get banned!
TheRaven
Personally I think all scam attempts are pretty pathetic. This is a game where having a lot of wealth doesn't make you a better player. The super rich are on equal footing in battle with the average player. Just play the game and you'll make more money than sitting around in Ascalon looking for suckers.
The only time I've been scammed was in Temple of Ages. I joined a group asking for 4 trappers for UW. He demanded 250g from everyone for entry fee and we warped in. He immediately aggroed all the Aatexes and got us killed. He survived and said he wouldn't rez us so we should just leave. He said he had a solo build and only brought us to pay the entry fee for him. Now that's pathetic!!!
This wasn't exactly a scam, but I saw a guy spamming in Kaineng for hours:
WTB mini panda 4k!!!!!!
I have a screenshot of it around here somewhere, but can't find it.

Noob had 2 globs of ectoplasm, and he thought they were worthless.
So he went to me and said Ill give you 2 ecto's for 500g.
I traded and he started whispering me going "LOL NOOB!"
And then whispering how, "Ecto's are worth nothing lololol"
I told him to check the rare material trader, he whispered me again telling me to give it back =P

I guy put in an awesome Fellblade in a trade box. All gold, req 8 and everything. Then he said "hold on", trade box was empty, then it showed a white unmodded Fellblade. I guess he didn't know that they now have it show with the big red letters "TRADE HAS BEEN CHANGED." Very clever sir monk.
My *FAVORITE* has been when this Mo/A (secondary profession important) PM'd me about this Zodiac sword I had put up for auction. He invited me to his party and then he zoned out. He walked far back and said "hey could you drop it so I know it's legit?" Immediately I thought "Oh HELL no, he ain't pulling this shit on me!"
Luckily, I had a crappy 14-21 damage gold and umodded FDS, so I dropped that instead, he shadowstepped over, picked it up, and logged off. When he logged back on, he gave me a big "F U" and ignored me. Goooood days.

The only scam I've ever ran into involves folks constantly changing the amount of money they put in the trade box. They seem to offer exceeding high amounts for crappy things (ie. Palawa Joko) and then change them to low offers.
Its quite pathedic to see that some people are so low as to try to scam a person in a game.

I'll admit I play the market, honestly I do. I do things like buy low sell high. So I was doing my normal, working a bit higher than usual on some mini pets and req 8's. So this guy says he's selling a chaos axe. He didn't mention anything about it's stats so I said let me see. He opens the trade window and sure enough it's the whole nine yards I ask how much he wants for it. The guy says 7k. I said, "you're kidding right?" He and I argue for a good two or three minutes before he finally says buy it or not, I don't want to be banned for scamming you. So I did the deal, feeling bad, hoping to sell the sword and hand him off half the profit or something. As soon as I do the deal, he logs of, never to be seen again. I still haven't decided if it was a random act of kindness or just someone being really dumb.
I turned around and sold it for 100k+20e I think. It was a profitable day I'll admit that. I pretty much retired from playing the market with that. ^^;;
EDIT: for spelling and price.

The usual; They put 75g into the trade window, instead of 75k. Of course I've never been scammed, cause I'm not that dumb, but it is comical.
But what's really funny is the time when a guy did something of that nature, and he said ''Omg I promise I will pay you back, after I Ebay more gold in a bit lol''. I just chuckled Irl and took screen-shots of it, I still have em'.

there was a scam which i cant believe i fell for it, and didnt think about it in the first place.
i was putting ad about running master for nahpui quarter mission for 3k and this rit guy lvl 10 say he would like me to run the mission him. i said ok 3k, pay before i kill the last boss, and he agreed.
i fought all the way up to the position near to hai ji, the last boss i wanna kill and asked him to pay, and then he said, "no, i helped u to get here along the way". the only thing he helped me was getting killed most of the time and make my hero/hench waste rez signet. he said he is going to pay afterwards, then i said we agreed on this, pay now and i kill the boss. seeing endless argument and time ticking towards 25 minutes, i told him good bye, not ending the mission, and warped back to town. what a waste of my time....
after that i realized how he just wanted me to power level him up... coz i remember something he said about buying his level up to level 20.
since then i only do mission run for lvl 20 people...

I rarely use the player market, I prefer to get the things I need for myself. When I do use it I normally sell low and buy high as I *want* to have the transaction take place more than I want the gold.
Though, there is one time that pretty much stands out in my mind. Before the release of Factions I decided to blow some plat on a Rago's Fire Staff (which I still own and like to use quite a bit). So I take my ele, remove the going price plus my general 25% extra to get the trade moving, and go to the Deldrimor War Camp and start watching the trade channel (I have refused from the start to purchase from anyone spamming local).
After a few minutes there is someone saying "WTS rago" with a price right at "standard" so I try and purchase from them. They open trade, put their Rago's Staff in the trade window and I carefully mouse over it and make sure I read everything in triplicate - it's good so I start to type in the amount the person wants payed. About the time I click to put the money in the window closes, no big deal that has happened before. Since I trade with other players I want to make sure - I whisper the person and explain and the agree to re-trade. The staff comes up, I read in triplicate, put the money, click offer ... trade window closes. This happens quite a few times and the person says it is a known bug. I don't keep up with scams so I have no idea what is going on. I apologize (assuming it is something I did) and redo the above with the window closing quite a few times. Eventually I give up and go back to watching the trade channel.
About ten minutes later the same person comes back and claims they are now working - so we go through the whole above scenario again. At this point I figure there is some scam going and make sure to check *everything* - still after 10 or so minutes of trying no go and we quit trying until the "bug" is fixed.
About this time someone comes on, spams WTS for less than I had with the previous person. I whisper them, offer between their WTS and the last offer (they take some time deciding, I assume they figure I was a scammer offering more than they asked), and finally accept. I get my rago's cheaper than I intended, they get more than they wanted, we are all happy. Then a few minutes later I get another whisper to from the other guy to give it another go and they knew how to get around it - I decline.
Amusingly enough while I had to go to the forums and research the scam to figure out what was going on I would have known better than to do it. The trade window is there for a reason and trading outside of it is a no-no. That person wasted nearly 30 minutes on me, it would have never worked.
When I found out what they wanted to do I found this VERY amusing - why go through that whole 30+ minute scam when (assuming I was going to fall for it) they could have gotten the same thing in less than ten minutes? I'm pretty sure I was the only mark during that time too based on their spamming of "wts rago staff".
The sad thing is that scammers have really hurt the legitimate givers. Again, I hate the player market so I sell low and purchase high. There are times where it is *easier* to sell high and purchase low due to people thinking you are a scammer. Let alone have a green/gold that isn't worth fooling with trying to sale (I make more during that time by actually farming) yet good enough that you do not want to let it go into the bit bucket in the sky (merched for 35g) so you give it away.
And no, don't bother to ask me for anything (I can't tell you how many people have asked for free stuff from me after similar posts) - you will *not* get it as any time I feel like bothering with such things I must initiate it.

Geees you guys have it wrong half the trade ones aren't even pathetic scamming attempts, most times they could be explain as a mistake or just trying to fool an idiot.
Yes if you can't take the time to read 5g and realise its not 5k your an idiot.
The most pathetic scamming attempt i know of rarely happens any more, and it not some stupid trade dispute, runner not paying or getting paid... and its certainly not the old /a drop steal trick (If you fall for that your worse then an idiot with brain damage).. its the good old fashion shake-down.
"Give me <add gold amount here>k or I'll report you for spamming/botting/cheating/scamming."

This was pretty pathetic, 2k for 10k exp, darn rip-offs..
Otherwise the usual stuff, 17g instead of 17k etc.
Lots of people also offered like an ID kit with 8 uses left, 2 random whites, a blue item & a mini pig, when I was trying to sell a mini Vizu.
Not sure if it was scamming or just plain ignorance..
