I truly love RA
Lorde
Really, I do. The matches are always different...
People say RA demands no skill, but I think there is a little of adaptability to win there, or at least lose less.
Don't think I don't like to win, I do. But winning is better when you win a different way every time, at least for me.

I used to enjoy playing RA untill dishonour ruined it. Now it isnt fun unless I play monk all the time. You ever tried playing a mesmer in an RA team with no monk? Its the single worst experience in the whole game.

I love RA as well.
Terrible for faction gain but it's highly amusing.
20 minutes running a few variant builds (if I'm a monk I bring 7 monk skills + Hammer Bash) is good fun

I like to trying to make a "tank" sin from time to time. I put a L-O-D and and focus on survival. Sometimes they focus -so- hard in killing you the rest of the team have a field day.

Yeah..Ra..just got r1 glad tonight.

You should try running Vengenceway, I invented it, and it's by far the best RA build of them all. What you do is, take Frenzy and 7 res's, and Frenzy and Res your team to victory.

only use good resses tho, like rebirth.

Yeah ra is fun from time to time. It's for your quick pwn fix.

RA's fun. Great place to screw around with harebrained builds. Also: If you EVER get flamed by someone in an RA match (e.g. NUB! or SCRUB!) remember one thing: They've chosen to be in RA. Like someone who's allergic to dogs walking into a kennel, then whining because they're sneezing. RA is meant for screwing around (unless you're really REALLY new).

I'm so close to 400 gladiator points, I'm at 391.
I like Random Arenas occasionally, but I find that it's not so 'random.'
I find myself on the beach map more than any other map, in fact, I almost forget certain maps exist until I occasionally pop up on them. Also, I'm entrapped into teams that consist of two others of my same profession, VERY OFTEN. Example? Well, I was on my assassin. Four different teams, we lost. All four of those teams, in a row, had three assassins in total. Also, two of the four times, one happened to be a Mo/A, a Monk spiker, and another time was a R/A, a ranger assasssin. Random? I think not. It happens with warriors too, or in fact, any profession. I played warrior just a while back. I got two more warriors on my team twice in a row, so I switched to my mesmer. Then I got two mesmers on my team! WHAT THE HECK! ><
Oh, and when I monk, I sometimes, and oftenly get another monk on the team, when like ten times previous to being on a non-monk character, I never even got a different profession failing, but still healing. Random needs to be more random! Random isn't three warriors and an elementalist!

I liked RA. Even before the dishonor stuff.
But then they mixed in something I liked a lot, too - and it turned out bad.
Like mixing orange juice and beer...
Adding "Costume Brawl", but with a party of 4 and without the fixed templates was not half as fun as the pure CB. Now RA matches take longer, capping with 4 people is quite different from having 5 (yep, a huge difference) like in CB.
Someone tell me if they removed it already or if we still have Hero Battle maps in RA/TA.

Strange, but yesterday I got 10 wins in RA (as a mesmer) without a healer on my team. Without any heal skills on my skillbar.
And guess what, we beat even teams with 2 monks, not just one.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying winning with mesmer when there's no monk in the team is easy. But it's not as bad as you make it. Maybe I'm biased because it's my fav class which I played tons of times, and I know how to survive in battle longer even when no one is healing me. Besides, survival isn't the goal. Offense is indeed the best defense, and if as a mesmer you do more damage than take, that's all that is needed. You don't need to beat 3 people singlehandedly, just do your part of the job. There are a lot of other tips, like, don't use Illusion. It sucks. Just compare Siphon Speed to mesmer slow hexes, they are a joke. Domination really does dominate, while illusion is a bunch of fluff. You don't have to be all dom, I play other combos too like Me/A for the fun of it.

I used to monk RA, until I started getting annoyed at all the draws I'd get, or matches where I hold my worthless, can't-kill-anything team up for 6 minutes before the pressure from the other team, which is only slightly less inept at doing damage, finally gets to me first.
At least when I warrior, if the support fails, the match will go by quickly, rather than gruesomely long. That only happens when I fail (something I feel doesn't happen nearly as often as it does to most everyone else in RA), or if I face a team with 2 blinding surge mesmers and two bonders with frenzied defense.

RA is the best PvP in GW. You just login and PvP in seconds.
The dishonor was at the same time good and bad. The bad part was feeling forced to play with bad players/builds, but that was fixed some days ago with the chest you can open with faction, now I never feel I am losing my time even if I know I will lose the fight.

RA is fun. Yes, it drags a lot when you get in the umpteenth group that has no monks, and the other team has 3. But as long as you roll a good build and keep a head on your shoulders, the random element is quite enjoyable. Sure, you have your nubs with their retarded builds, but that makes it all the more fun to lay down the smackdown.

Ahh yes, it's lovely to see Wammo's with WoH.

Why is everyone complaining about Dishonorable hex in RA? I thought it was a problem too, so looked for a solution.
In short, what I do now when team is horrid (read: Mending user, tanker, 55hp monk) is = suicide. I type /resign, then run up to enemy team and let them kill me fast.
The only problem is when someone in my team refuses to die fast (read: all-defense build, non monk), and I have to watch the match... sigh. Well it's not that I watch the match, I open browser.

While I do had my share of bad RA matches, the good deal of it were with good players, or at least player trying to play good.
I think with the dishonor thing people started to play better. The builds may not be the supposed perfect ones but the players do try to win.

Nothing wrong with randomness if it was at least reasonable, like no less than 1 healer and no more than 2 healers per party. It just doesn't work like this when you either have to play Monk (and play it well) or have no hope to get past the first match unless the other team is even more sadder noobs than yours. I'm seriously asking why does Random Arenas even exist in the game. Entry level PvP, sure, but what does it teach to those aspiring Warriors and Dervishes and Elementalists when playing their usual role in PvP doesn't mean success? Here we have the notorious Warriors with healing skills, enchant stacking Dervishes and Earth Elementalists with 2-4 armor buffs and self-heals just to stay alive in the absence of Monks.
I think this could be fixed by allowing players to select if they want their characters to occupy healer role when they enter Random Arena battle:
"Is your character's primary purpose to heal or protect others?"
- When player chooses yes, there would be serverside "just in case" check to see how many skills slots are from Divine Favor, Protection Prayers, Healing Prayers and Restoration Magic. If certain number is met, the player is agreed to be a "healer". On every match the server would assign one "healer" character to team with random 3 others. Players could voluntarily override this selection if they didn't care about not being partied with healer.
Something like that needs to be done. Self-healing capabilities of professions can never answer to ridiculous pressure melee characters can put on party.

And I can add: Because even if I lose I still get points for get a key that open Zaizhen chest. In the past a lose was a total lose, because I have all unlocked.
Interesting, anyway I remember too many times I won without a monk (sometimes versus teams with monks)
That is now, because in the past I just leaved every no monk team immediately (Gladiator 4 here, all in RA)
Ah!! almost forgot to say: You can lose even with the best of monks in your team.
You can't see me
I love that plot. That made my week.

You forgot after asking if u team has a monk - no - leave and get dishonorable pts i see that way to many times
Mr Pvper
RA pwns. I don't even bother bringing rez (teams arent organized anyways) and I just have fun destroying the enemies team. It gets fun when all ur allies are dead and ur in a 2:1 / 3:1/ 4:1 situation, where u have to micro and use ur skills to win a really hard match.
