I wasn't able to take any screenshots for brief time my Elementalist had the Ice Crown, but it actually looks pretty good on her. I don't like how the spines are pointed backwards, but it's still pretty cool, and at least she doesn't look bald. She looks like an alien while wearing the yule cap..

If they were REALLY smart, they would have left one town as santa hats and reigndeer horns, and added the new hats to the other town (like kamadan). Only two hats (unlike 4 last year) was not a good idea. There were TONS of new players disapointed that they didn't get the santa hats.

How about, instead of picking a wonderful hat, that Anet knows they cant do which disapoints loads of people. They instead pick something they could do as the winner.....that way it looks like everyone expects it to and doesnt feel like we got cheaped out....

I have never ever complained about hats before this event - after all, as many have posted, they are free.
The reason I complain this time is because the one element in which they had player input was messed up by the design.
The flower wreath is a little girlish but looks ok on females - not complaining so much about that.
The hair on the ice crown looks bleh but anything they did to hide the head would look a little funny - so, while I don't like it much I would not have complained if that were the only thing.
The problem is that the ice spikes which looked so great in Nian's drawing came out dull, lifeless and just plain ugly on the hat in game. If they could not capture the spirit of the artwork then they should have chosen a different design to use. A lot of people put a lot of work into their entries and to have the winner turned into ugliness just is not fun at all.

I like the hats. I've been playing for 10 months and these are the first hats since I started that actually look good on female characters. Got my Dwayna garland and more than happy to pick up the Grenth one too. Yes there were some nice designs submitted in the contest but we can't have everything. If you don't like it don't worry it's the Canthan new year soon- I'm sure you'll find something new to bitch about then. :P

Dwayna hat isn't bad, but it is weird. The grenth hat is awfull with that blond hair. My main character normally has black hair so it's very ugly when he wears the crown that he has blond hair. :'(

The Wreath Crown goes quite good on my ranger, make's her cute.
But the Ice Crown looks more like Steel Ingot Crown. It's not shiny or white/blueish.

I for one really didn't like the original Ice Crown so I see no big deal about how it looks now. I just collect the hats and never wear them so no problem there either. They are a gift that ANET gives you for free and yet people still complain. "My opinion of the GW forum posters disappoints me more everytime I log in." I'm sure Anet did the best they could with the design. It's not as though they had a 'lets upset as many people as possible' during it's designed. As for the colots, I dunno maybe making it shinier would have caused too much lag, clipping or clashes with everything else. As Gaile said the engine is limited in what it can do, so they had to work around it.

#Grenth's crown ain't like thewinning concept. It looks like made from stone, not ice. There are plenty of frozen waterfalls in GW and I can asure you you guys NEVER decipted ice like that in your own game, whats more the concept was originally GLOWING.

You obviously an do things taht stay on the top of the head and leave hair intact so that excuse won;t work either. Just be honest and say that all leading artists are working on GW or AION atm ...
I just hope I can get my UGLY Grenths crown AGAIN w/o server crash and forget about the wholer thing.

You poor thing.
Anet just want to make sure that people stay with the game until they can offer them GW2's info or something. GW's replayability (if you don't take into account the grinding and the "repeating stuff in a harder mode") is nearly non-existent even with so many classes to choose from. People will get bored real quick with so many other games to choose from.
The fact that GW doesn't have monthly-fee, in my opinion, forces it to compete with every no-monthly fee game on PC (at least). Crysis, CoD4, etc etc etc.
I really want to see them STOP with these events though. But they can't. They just can't.

2. When 90% of the event is the same stale crap you've experienced for three years it's hard to please people, even if the gifts are free (especially if they are ugly as hell).

Well my char is bald anyway, so no real problem for me.
As for the events being a bit stale, keep in mind there are some new players to GW for who this will be completely new.
While Anet would love to keep every player happy, they can't create events that focus only on people that purchased GW in 2005 or sooner.

Even if the hair doesn't match your character, it still looks a lot better than going bald. At least for females.

Yep, these are some pretty ugly hats. Oh well not like we had a use for hats other then to wonder what they'll be and never use them again after. Bring on the rest of the weapon design contest skins.
