Third try is a charm I finally got my first hat today. It's the wreath hat, on my female ele it looks fine. Without candles would have been nicer imo.

lol..all this whinery here shows me..that there are still enough people out there, which haven't CHECKED it until now.. that not everything..regardless of how awesome the artwork of someone is...that was used as cover...that Anet is NOT ever able to implement then these things in a 1:1 ratio...

Personally, I like the Dwayna crown. It looked quite nice on my Ritualist.
It would also have looked good without the candles. Although I'd have thought a floral crown is more Melandru than Dwayna?

Christie's PS'd version is what the Grenth crown was supposed to look like. I would've preferred even more icy glint and sparkling.

From what I saw in game, in 05, people fell in love with the Yule Cap (Horns Of Grenth were not as popular) despite it making your character bald. Almost every hat that followed (excluding this and last year's halloween) has been greeted with the same response. Why such a fantastic design, with the attractive chaos/icy glow, would be any less than an immense success, even if your character is bald while wearing it, is beyond me.
Because this will probably be locked soon, I'll conclude with:
- Like every game like GW, there need to be events. You can't expect to please your player base with the same event, more or less, for 3 years.
- The "it simply can't be done" reply we got from ANet is bizzare to me since it obviously can- read Horns of Grenth, Blindfold etc.
- I honestly think (and I know the vast majority of GW players would agree with me) the majority of the hats since 05 have been great, even if your character is bald while wearing them. Fgs, they are supposed to be fun- being bald while you wear these fun, holiday hats is no big deal.
- lol @ the wreath hat failing so hard noone's bothering to talk about it.

My bald monk looks really funny in grenth's. And my female necro looks ok in it.
My male ranger looks silly in both .

I like the Dwayna one, but think it could have used a little more green in it. The Grenth one is a big disappointment. It's too dark so it doesn't do justice to the winner's submission and from anywhere but the front it looks ugly.

So I get Nian's horribly-murdered crown (shame...the art was SO pretty) and then code=007. I log BACK in to find the 10 or so presents I had managed to pick up, along with the crown, have all vanished.

Ya know, they could simply taken the skin from the glacial blade and put it on the ice crown. Would have made it decent at least. Looking at the art work that nian did, I'm saddened and disappointed by the work Anet did. It looks like a chunk of lead atop a piece of white shag carpet. The model itself doesnt even match the artwork. The artwork is elegant and smooth, the model itself... well... isnt.
As for the wreath, its not bad. I like the candle effects. Sadly, my first impressions were that someone dropped a cake on my head. It took a min or two of extra close up viewing to realize that they were going for a flowery wreath. But the level of detail put into this hat is decent. And its pretty different from the other holiday hats, so I cant complain.
I'm glad the "good" artists are working on GW2, but still, the ice crown could have and should have been better. A good texture that already exists in the game would have been better then what they actually used.

The Dwayna crowns are styled after the historically real (and still seen) St. Lucia "crowns" of the Scandinavian countries, as far as I can tell. I think they're really nice, personally, though I can see where you more .... macho individuals might feel a bit compromised
