Needless to say, I am not happy - I had about 100 presents collected during the earlier one

I would deal with lag and stuff, but rollback?
Drop of Fear
45minutes rollback to me. lost 7 unlucky points and i have 31 cc shards as i had before grenth arrived.
the_last_m_p
Don't think it was a rollback. Seems as if one of their servers crashed, before the changes on it could be propagated to other servers. i.e. if you stayed connected and then died on it, you lost all you had for all the time you were on. I should have logged out after the last event *(&&*^%&*%^!!!! &^*********!!!!
P.S. about 3-4 hours or so lost for me, so don't think you are the worst case

Only a few mins rolled back for me, i sold a couple items, before the event started and they are still gone.
Drop of Fear
it was definitly a rollback. my unlucky title said 442155 and now after err7 is back @442148. i got those 7 points on grenth rings

European server LA district 5 if that matters.
Oh, and add me to the not happy crowd - if that needs to be said.

Surprised ANet haven't made a statement as yet. Usually very good at that - or maybe I've missed it?
Ahh, my question on rollback was answered as I posted it - Oh that SUCKS! so those who've stayed on for several hours instead of just jumping on for goodies actually get hit harder?!!? - nice one :/

Its a shame when a sytsem crashes, but this does piss one off. You wait around for ages to get the hat in LA, and then nothing, what a waste of time.I really would like to know how and why I jumped from dist 30 to dist 5. And then it happens again in kamadan, wait wait wait and nothing again.

Seems to be a lot of complaints in game at the minute of people losing the last events goodies too (8am GMT) - don't know how true it is - anyone here experienced it? |
Sirius-NZ
Wait for it. It's the small hours of the morning in the western US right now (4 am I believe).
Oukanna
so some people managed to get 50 presents and others 0 :-(
Not quite fair, definatly need a redux xD

Everybody in Kamadan lost his/her presents and hat last hour......
After everybody got about 120k ping and an error 7, Kamadan was full of people complaining.....
Way to go, Anet!

funny this, so many posts over the last 2 1/2 years of gw about lag outs at stuff like this, but for some reason, it never happens to me even when im in the place and time that you state.
I live in Wales, in the uk.
my highest ever ping 15,000 when on wireless on low signal.

I got set back 2, but getting angry at ANet isn't going to work. I'm pretty sure they aren't very happy with this either...
captain_carter
I only lost all the progress from Kamadan, I still had my Dwayna hat and presents from LA, maybe because I changed location and district I only lost about 5 minutes, or maybe my computer crashing just as ping reached 50,000 saved me.
angry_beaver
Well, one good thing from all this, I have the title for longest ping time, woohoo.
Shame it doesn't offset the disappointment from losing all those gifts and the fact that even with a redux, it will still leave those who got kicked out at a disadvantage. Those that didn't get kicked will be able to partake again.

I've been death-leveling for the past 19 hours and it has been uninterrupted. This must only affect present farmers in the big towns.

Game ran perfectly, before the presents came.
However, my brother, who was on a lower district, was completely uneffected by this.

Totally unacceptable. I had 3 presents and a hat before I could log in again and now they are gone. Its like I was never in the event, I also lost the shards I won.
They rolled back my character, bugger that.

Waited over an hour this morning (08:00 AM) in Lions Arch, and the Wintersday Grand Finale didn't run at all.
Tried again in Kamadan (11:00 AM). Event started and did manage to get a hat and a few presents before major lag and disconnect.
When i was able to login again, hat and presents were gone.
Dont know if theres any point to try a third time?

I was waiting in a district(27) from the before the start of the event. With nothing happening after waiting for 15 or so minutes we suddenly found ourselves in another district,5 I think. I don't see the relevance of the statement. The problem seems to be europe wide though

Minor advices for the next events you'll attend: remind people that stopping displaying minipets can ease the situation; avoid spamming commands, I used "; space" calmly during the mega-lag and got my 32 gifts even if it was hyper slow (you just have to wait patiently when the screen does not update).
The more we load the servers, the more we make everyone's problem worse and this gets back at us, because we all share the same servers.

I doubt 20 minipets would affect it that much, I'd hazard a guess that the particle effect (or whatever it is) on the presents is a much heavier load.

Same thing can be said of the nice PvP emotes, sparklers and other graphical bonuses. We should even all be naked
infite
Why cant the gifts just appear to inventory?

And the reason why I replied this way to your message is to try to show you that my advice was a general one. It's impossible to understand everyone's situation, but it's possible to stop looking only at my own situation.

Gratz are in order!!! The afkers and greifers have finally killed the game.

So instead of dropping them on the floor - simple solution: drop them straight into your inventory instead.
The only negative aspect of that is that it prevents people from nabbing unassigned presents left lying around by AFKers, and removes a bit of the ambience of having gifts rain from the sky.
Personally I haven't experienced anything as extreme as some describe here.

I'm NOT saying it's the main culprit, I'm just saying it COULD help.

Agree too, I would prefer it to stay that way. I wonder whether last year's event had the same problem, maybe someone remembers? |
They seem to have avoided that this year from what I've seen so far.

Server does not have to care about gprahical apparance of item, client is there to do that. Having them compute particle effects and stuff like that would mean pretty bad programing (and waste of BW).

Another problem being that GW districts are not servers, but probably virtual servers (and one or two hundreds of them if I'm not mistaken), which means that virtual memory swapping becomes a HUGE pain in case of physical and virtual load. Of course, I'm NOT Anet and could be very mistaken about what's happening.
I'm not trying to be smart here, rather useful (I'll even be happy to know the truth and admit I was wrong). So if you have a better idea, please state it!
