You'll have to tell us if you actually got to keep it, I was wearing my hat too, though I was still at ground zero. When I logged back in my char was still wearing it at the char select screen, but no sign of it once I started playing.

Me too....I gave up getting pressies after I got my hat, put it on and hit my gh button. I failed to connect, it logged me out, but when I logged back in, I still had my hat

Actually, I had better ping in districts 4 and 7 (I was early

) than in later ones. I stayed on through the event in like D18 or so, but got lagspiked off between events in 57.

Slowdown with hundreds of people in the same 2 cities at the same time is expected. 100k+ ping and people getting booted offline with forced rollbacks is a serious issue, and people are trying to call ANet's attention to the fact that they're repeatedly doing it wrong.

3) everything from 10 minutes before event till rollback (items transefred from storage reapeared in storage, two kicked heroes came back ..., everything what you would expect from rollback)

7) Yes, i did put hat on. In fact, when i was attemting to relogin after lagging out, it showed on my character in character selection screen.

I have 2 accounts and was on 2 different computers. The one I'm on now was fine, green ping, sometimes yellow (didn't see number), no lag at all. The other one...OMG red ping (again, didn't see number), couldn't even see what I was typing, couldn't even pick up my presents. And I couldn't move either. Glad that wasn't a Grenth district or I would have been really mad since the Grentchies kill everyone. I wish they'd just put our gifts in inventory like the hats...

twas my 3rd time thru....2nd in kamadan (first 2 no lag at all)
yes loss was from the event I was just at
lost all the presents I picked up, the cc shards that I got awarded and the hat on my head (though the cc shards that I had used were back my count was off by about 3)

very present...until I got d'cd was trying to pick up presents.

I was wearing the hat whilst trying to pick up presents....the lag started right before they started to drop

I have screens that show me with the hat and the insane lag numbers to boot.

Thanks Gaile! My wife actually lost all of her items, while I was able to keep my hat, however I did lose connection during the event.

Did you attend more than one event?

This was our first time attending the event at 12:15 EST PM

Was the loss from the event you had just attended?

Yes my wife's toon lost all of her wintersday items from the event after she lost connection. This was after the presents were dropping.

What did you lose?

She lost her wreath crown and any of the gifts she had picked up from the event (around 15). There were other gifts available to her, but she was not able to get to them due to the lag.

What territory and district were you in?

Kamadan district 38

She was present

Did you leave immediately after the hat was given? If you stayed for a while after the hat was given, for approximately how long did you stay?

She stayed around to gather the gifts and then eventually lost connection. When she reconnected the items she received from the event were gone.

Did you put the hat on, or just see it in your inventory? (And I assume you did verify it was in the inventory?)

The minute she got it in her inventory she put it on. When she logged back in after she was disconnected, the hat was gone.

As for my toon, I lost connection the minute the presents started to drop and I could not get connected again for another 10 minutes or so. I was in the same district as her. Once I reconnected my hat was in my inventory. I am not sure if it was in my inventory before i lost connection however.

Ok Gaile; Here's the rundown of my experience

This was the first event I attended
The loss was from the event just attended (kinda redundant I know but I'm trying to do this officially )
I lost an Ice Crown, approx. 14 Wintersday Gifts, and approx. 12 Candy Cane Shards
I was in Kamadan American (English) District 45
I was present and gathering gifts as they dropped
I stayed for approx. the entire event, the avatar of grenth had made his sign-off farewell statement 1-3 minutes before I was disconnected.
I was wearing the hat at the time I was disconnected. Also when I logged in about 10 minutes later my character was still wearing the hat on the character selection screen even though the hat no longer existed in my inventory.

I hope this can help you figure out what's going on better and stop this from happening in the future.

Well, I know my nephew was on and it happened to him twice. He was in European Servers, I believe. He was not afk, he was picking up presents, had the hat, was wearing it, and all of a sudden he got disconnected and when he got back on the game, all the presents and hat were gone. It happened to him not once, but twice.

How about a re-run of the event, a'la the last dragon festival, or at least an NPC collector in LA/Kamadan for a couple of weeks, to give people a chance to get the lost festival hats. The alcohol / sweets / etc. from the wintersday gifts are replaceable. The hats are not, you can't even buy them from other players.

With the mostly +100k pings we had before getting kicked off. You wouldn't even have made it halfway to the festival hat NPC in that window between getting the hat and getting the error.

1. I didn't have time I was booted from the event I was in.
2. Everything was reset, I lost my hat and my gifts and my shards were returned to my storage.

6. I tried to stay but the ping climbed from a normal ping when I got a hat to a ping of 115k (I have a screen shot), when the presents started to drop. I got an error 007 and then 040 when I tried to log back in.

The same for me as well my ping was at 15000 to 45000 and everyone had thier minis out.There were 2 Warriors who got ressed on the ledge and couldn't get down.My FPS was about 2.

Well i was in Lions arch europe district at 11am GMT
Server went down aeound 11:10 i think, i lost that rounds presents, the hat and some cc shards but i cant remember how many.
Ive attended another one now so i got the hat luckily.

I am now in Kamadan and the lag has started again, just like earlier :-(
I can hardly pic up anything -_-

I did the warp to guild hall thing again, left after like 4 pressies. This time I stayed connected, still had hat etc. The gh thing worked both times now, I have both hats. You lose a few pressies but meh, least you get to keep the hat. Hope it helps!

Last year we had prezzies dropping on the floor, no big lagg issues at all.

Now people say not to chat, put minipets away and dont rankspike, dance or do any other emote, i was like LOL wtf, there are just LOADS and LOADS of people, servers are flooded big time, that server in germany sure as hell got its butt kicked this time.

That dragon fest that gone wrong was because of a malfunction on their end, this though, is because of the massive number of players.

But anyways i've got my hats, im happy and done with wintersday, now its off to general pve again.

I'm happy to report that the lag issue was much better for me this time around.

Only about 10k ping, LA, US D75.

It really helps if you can get off the rings right away and stand in an obscure corner, I think. Gretches don't kill you (if Grenth wins) and my ping's only gone above 30k twice.

The lag seems to be about the same as last year, which is frustrating to everybody. I think Anet has a problem that they can't fix, technically....

Yes I was at more than one event so I managed to get both hats on the first 2 I attended.

Yes the loss of items was only from the event I was just in.

Lost unkown number of presents(wintersday gifts)

American, Dist 3, Kamadan 12:35pm eastern standard time(aproximately)

I was present, could not move to pick up gifts once Grenth+grentchs started to kill people.

As seen in my earlier posted screen shot, I was in the dist untill after Grenth stopped killing people and left, aproximately 60 seconds later everyone in the district was kicked out. I was sent to loggin screen for only a moment, then straight back to exact same district. Upon return I found all gifts gone and all people in that dist were talking about the exact same thing.

Inventory window was open the entire time, hat and 3 gifts(won from rings) were in inventory.

I was lucky enough to aquire the hats in previous events early this morning, so I'm not really upset since I only lost a few gifts.

I feel very bad about those that were attending this event for the first time as it must have been extremely frustrating and disapointing.

Barely made it through a farming run. In an unpopular place to do it, too. (dead sword farm in Elona). Was lagging pretty badly, topping at just over 30,oooMS ping. Twas fun, should have took a camera to keep the memories.

Servers do seem a bit... overloaded at this point. Poor buggers.

I had a terrible lagfest (>55,000 ms ping) in Kamadan dis 17, electrified/avalanched by Grentchies but I got all item, not much to complain.
