Aw but I liked doing the /favor command every now and seeing big numbers. I don't think I checked before going to bed, last thing I remember was 28k or so.

Sorry

As mentioned earlier, sometimes computers cannot hold very large numbers unless they're specifically told to. This computer was told 'take the number of milliseconds of favor, and put it in a 31-bit integer'. 31-bit integer is technical speak for a number 2147483648. Take that number, divide it by 1000 for seconds, divide it by 60 for minutes, and that's the maximum number of minutes that can be stored.

God damn, and there I was without a rush to go to the UW thinking we had almost a damn month worth of favor.

That aside, I believe that Anet had to know that the entire GW community was going to max those 2 titles, that is 6 mins a pop!!!

I do believe it had to be on purpose, after all, they cannot have the UW open 24/7 for a month!!

Next time they should make a free UW/FoW week again. It's kind of a ripoff, since we weren't told that someone will reset favor at some point -.-

"someone" didn't reset it... the bucket used to store the number of minutes of favor "overflowed" because the computer incremented the value past the amount allowed in the bucket. Thus resetting or losing the "real" value of favor.

It was up to 18 days the last time I checked, but its ashame it reset. It will most likely get even higher by the end of Sunday and early Monday morning, we'll see.

I'd also say that is what happened. It's a common practice to store time as milliseconds and they have used a signed int32.

If anyone can post a screenie with time over 35791, we will have to find a better theory But it's highly unlikely that they would manually reset the time just at int32 upper bound.

ah, so its 32bit int and miliseconds instead of 16bit int and minutes, that makes a lot more sense actually.

Heh, funny thing is fix for this "bug" takes few seconds (literaly) while it undid 7000 title donations of players which probably took them about hundred thoudand hours of collective playtime.)

Anet should give us back all the favor time we EARNED. They should have realized the consequences of a weekend such as this and prepared accordingly.

Also, anet wanted to change the favor system to the retarded title-pve based way it is now, they should live with the fact that it was NOT A GOOD IDEA. Give us back the month of favor we earned imo, and since QQ'ing seems to work now, i WILL NOT let this injustice rest until favor is linked to HA again or we get back our 25+ days of favor!

It has nothing to do with IF we need to..... but fact the favor was earned by those hard working guys maxing the titles and anet just spit in their face and said we know we said we would hand out favor based on titles but it is our game and we can change the rules anytime we wish and there is nothing you can do about it. personally i don't understand this whole math thing it has place for 5 digits so let favor build up to 99999 then reset if it has to reset.

We can see the problem. Now for a possible solution:-

Reduce the number of minutes of favor extended from 3 to 2 (permanently),and possibly 1, when we have weekends like this.

That's fair, innit?

They should just store it in minutes not milliseconds. We get 1 hour and then +3 minutes everytime someone maxes a title.

Overflow!

If it is (2^31-1)/(1000*60) is 35791 minutes and change or 2^15 or whatever people posted.

The fact is that 3 weeks of favor got lost (~23 days).

I did not like the new title-grind based system from day one, it was a bad replacement for an even worse system.

Time to fix this not really good solution so that it is at least not failing like it just did!

I like how everyone QQs over this, speculates on what happened, and yet we know NOTHING official yet. It doesn't really matter. If we lost an entire month of Favor, do you really think it will take long to get favor long enough to do UW/FOW anyway? When was the last time we didn't have favor for an extended period of time? The new system works in a way that allows us to have favor virtually non-stop. When we lose it, it isn't lost for long.

I'm glad people think they know what happened. But it doesn't matter what happened. If it was intentional or not, it doesn't matter. If it was a bug, it didn't ruin anything anyone was doing.

Favor "up time" was continuously decreasing as more and more people are done with their titles for HoM (as predicted by people who didnt like this idea). You might have noticed that instead of few minutes of wait it was couple of hours of wait lately.

This event removed a lot of undone titles that could have fueled steady favor for better half of year, it also removed big favor burst that was making up for that.

So yes, it will take longer to get favor.

Also, it if was intentional or not matters. A lot. Luckily, it seems to be bug, otherwise anet is in big QQ trouble.

I dont see why everybody cares so much for losing favor. We have it most of the time anyways, but you arrogant people cant stand not having it just most of the time. And these people earning their titles? They don't care at ALL about 3 minutes of favor- they care about maxing titles so that they get an even elite-ier tier on the Maxed Title track. It's the d-bags sitting in the Temple of Ages that whine so much about being unable to farm ectos straight for 23 days. QQ moar, kthxbai.

I have 13 characters. I know I have more than the 'average' player, but even the 'average' player will have 3-4 characters. How many people have GWAMM on even 1 character? How many people have Kind of a Big Deal on more than 1 character?

If people start maxing titles on their other characters, favor will pop back to a frequent status.

I play about 4 hours a day, 7 days a week. I have 13 characters still with titles I can and want to max. Someone who plays 3-4 hours a week will still have plenty of options for titles to max.

Casuall people will max out titles a lot less often. And hardcores, well, they tend to focus on single character nowadays, thats what game design supports nowadays. After all of HM you get burned out easily.

do YOU plan to have GWAMM on several characres?
do YOU plan to get even KOABDs on several characters?

I know I don't plan either of those thing. There is no point in maxing titles on secondary characters, even if you are spread-attention-to-all-of-em type of player like i am (10 chars).

LOL I love the attempt to combat a larger issue with your personal habits. Perhaps I should generalize myself and say, I only max titles on one of ten characters and have no intention of doing so for the rest. Therefore we'll have a shortage of favor in no time, but wait that'd be inaccurate wouldn't it?
