so has anyone else noticed how many unused necro skill icons there are?
It looked to be about a 1/3 of them in the image type with most of the skills in it.

Also, given Anet's sense of humor (Tenagg, the pug, and similar), I wouldn't be surprised if next patch contained some "interesting" additions.

I just read the whole thread and I'm not going to go back and quote posts, but the events sound like they're streaming stuff into our .dat files for the GW2 beta. One event had a trading post; maybe the Zaishen Market is going to be in GW2 and will be tested in the GW2 beta, hence the "Thank you for testing this feature!" thing?
Eh, maybe its just wishful thinking.

Where is the logic in developing GW2 on a GW1 .dat file?

I would say the likelihood of them using gw1 engine for gw2 is about as likely as ANET giving us all 10 stacks of armbraces to make up for the duping fiasco.

Anyways, here are some of my finds.
Looks like chests and some random items. I know of no chests in GW that look anything like these, though.
Some bizarre insignia. Or a shield I've never seen before. I don't know, I'm not big on Warriors.
I guess it's the cape of an npc or something. However, isn't that a fractal in the top left?
A web-type thing. I'm pretty sure it's part of the destroyer hives, like in Genius Operated Living Enchanted Manifestation and A Time For Heroes. But what's interesting is it's so hi-res. It looks like it's right out of concept art!
Arkantos
The fist shield is an ebonhand aegis.

Correct. There is no logic in developing GW2 on a GW1 .dat file. Unless of course they plan on releasing these ideas on GW1 as sort of an alpha test for the features that will be presented in GW2.

Or, what Silly Warrior said.
Also; those Destroyer hives look AMAZING!

Now everyone will make their posts saying, "ss or it didn't happen". That's why I didn't bang my head on THAT door again. They just won't listen.

I am not going to even go into the whole .dat /= engine idea, because technically, the "GW2 in GW1" ideas lack a technical understanding in the first place.
We are not seeing specifically GW2 designed things in GW.dat. What is the logic behind it? Why go through the effort and bandwidth to distribute it when it is uselessly sitting on our computers? At best it is something developed for Utopia that is being redone in the new engine, and is merely old code/skins/etc that isn't cleaned up.

Or they are just using GW1 to alpha test certain ideas and concepts now so that when they release GW2 it's more streamlined...?
You know that if they release a big, new feature there will be loads of people going to Sardelac and 'suggesting improvements'. Better to test and streamline it now on GW1 and let people hack it to pieces than let GW2 have a bad review on a major feature right off the bat.

Now I have to admit I am truly blown away by some of you guys... like HOW THE HELL do you remember where you have seen some of these things???
btw I did remember seeing this somewhere.... now zooming in on the where I saw it is a whole new story.

It makes a lot of sense. The .dat file is merely a file system. It's independent from game, and they can use existing servers for streaming updates (which isn't such an easy task).
But putting GW2 content on GW1 servers - no. Except for play-testing, which would, again, make a lot of sense. They have a game - to test certain things they don't need leet animations and high-resolution models, they don't need jumping to test auction house, they don't need new terrain to test questing and dungeons....
Re-use is the name of the game these days. It's simply impossible to make a financially viable game without it.

(Or if you want a less drastic example, mp3 and midi- similar file type to the non-tech-savvy person, completely different data organization.)
