How many here hate survivors enough to do the same thing? |
1) In this case that guy was just behaving like a complete prat and should have got reported tbh. But people quitting wasnt going to impact you too much because you were only being run. But it wasnt the way to behave either.
2) How ever if a survivor joins a PUG, its a different story! Survivors have to accept that if they want that title, they have to work alone or join other survivors while they play.
If you get a survivor in your PUG, then chances are they will leave and first sign of trouble and leave you all to deal with the agro with one man down.
People only have issues with them, if they join your pug and then leave when they dont like what they see.

Maybe he didn't respect the title through being ran somewhere (I agree with this, if you have to get ran everywhere because you're too afraid to fight then you don't deserve the title anyway). While I agree it was total rudeness to do what he did, anyone could have run through the zone to get away or quit the game before getting killed. Obviously the survivor title wasn't that important to the people who died because they didn't try very hard to avoid it.
Monthly fees may get rid of 10 year olds, but I do have to say WoW has more immature players than any game I've ever played before. Whether age has anything to do with it doesn't seem to matter in that world.

Common sense would be to talk to the potential PUG, and find out where they have been so far in the game and what they are doing besides the current mission. If they aren't talkin' much then I'd be wary of their agenda if you do decide to join up. |
And in am alliance group, if you're a PUG that cause problems and we fail, don't expect staying in the group, even if you were well-mannered and social with us. I had a guy trying to turn a 6/8 guild FoW run into his speed run because that's what he does and kept whining on how we were slow and such. He sounded really nice in the team chat, was somewhat social, never pressured us into going NOW like some guys do ("GOGOGOGOGOGOG!!11!1") and frankly, if he hadn't been so pushy on his "speed" run, he'd have made a good player. But 6/8 were totally tired of his "I'm better than you because I do this in XYZ amount of minutes" attitude, which started AFTER we started the FoW run.

What irked me about this was that it was a delibrate act on the part of the person. This is like my 8th attempt at this title, why? Let me see, I have no "trusted" friends, people on my 2 year old friends list don't play much anymore. To do missions, you really need people that know the mission, most people in my guild are new to the game, and no, not going to a new guild for a title. Maybe now that we just joined a seven guild alliance, I can get the help needed. Next, I don't jump ship at first sign of trouble. I am playing through the game 'normally'. As I said in earlier posts, I was on way to LA to jump into Factions for armor then into NF for Heores.
I know there are a lot of people that don't like titles. They are all over this forum. I respect their "lack of interest" in titles, just don't understand their "hatred" of them. I don't tell them how to play their games. All I am asking is respect my attempt at titles and don't interfere with acts like the other night.
Thanks for all the responces, both pro and con. Enough said.

"Weed out the bad apples before you go adventuring..." Man that would be awesome. To be in an outpost and be able to pick out the douchebags would be the greatest feat achieved this side of the universe.
That aside, people are so hell-bent on ruining your fun because it's fun for them. People are assholes. Welcome to the internet.

I still say there should be a way for players to "flag" bad/obnoxious players such as the OP encountered. For, example, we can all "/ignore" such players. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to see the "/ignore" stat on potential PUG-mates? A "PLAYER NAME is being ignored by 52 players" would certainly send off a warning alarm or two.
Better still, have an "auto-ignore" feature among your play options. I often wished for something like this when I was playing WoW, figuring that any player who was on, say, 20 or more player "/ignore" lists was someone that I would not want to group with or listen to in any form of chat.

Mhe, the rash of leavers when Factions first came out is what pushed me to H/H, since, frankly, most people are retards and GW has more than it's fair share.
Now if only I could take a full Hero party, I'd be happy.

The fact I have to explain it to you just proves the point I was trying to make.

As Hailey Anne put it, people can get the survivor title easily, I total disagree with people who do HFFF and doing "door" for FFF groups. The only farming I can come close to respecting for Survivor title is the Kilroy EN dungeon quest since that "farm run" has the highest chance of you dieing. Although I have not farmed yet and am very close to r3 survivor on my para, I do dislike those who farm xp because they make a potentially cool/hard title to get super easy.
As for people who hate survivors, it is probably because 1) they don't have the patience/ability to get it themselves. 2) they hate them because so many leave the game *which I have never done and have never came close to dieing, even with PUGs*. 3) they want to keep amount of survivors low so that their own survivor will be more worthwhile *most unlikly*. Or 4) they are just immature and are jerks.

Apparently, people read first post and don't bother reading further. "It is so easy to get." This is at least my 8th try. Actually, I have lost track of the number of tries. Since I don't like the way Factions plays, I won't be HFFing. Didn't even know what it was until this thread. The only thing Factions is good for, is easy access to max armor(IMO).
The only safe way, is to do it on your own. People don't want you in groups or just for spite, leave you on your own, just to see if you will leave. Once you "prove" you won't leave, ie - die, then they treat you like one of the team. So I avoid PuGs. That is why I do what I have to, to get heroes, like buy a run. Then you run into the type of person I did.
I guess, those that don't want anything to do with titles, won't be in or won't fill the Hall of Monuments.
Edit:
On reroll of character, paid 5k for a solo run to Lion's Arch from Ascalon City. Got my armor, so back to the missions.

Ok let me sum up this thread if I can:
Guildies>Heros>Henchies>PUG?
So ok I get this and totally agree. Then you have people who go, "You should have zoned or logged!" Ok I get that as well. What I don't get is when the combo is a mixture of those AND "I hate it when survivors party, then zone when things get rough." or those that state that while saying never PUG... You can't mix topics, stick to a theme!
See now if you told them, you run the risk of them doing what the OP was complaining about.
If you zone and then get the group feeling just the same as you the survivor would have, had they purposefully killed you.
For those of you who say that Anet will not do anything about "A$$hats" and that it's not against the rules then will you please open your EULA and reread it or go HERE!:http://www.guildwars.com/support/legal/ You are not permitted to intentionally do something that will ruin someone elses gameplay.
Getting a title in a cheap way is not a dirrect violation to those of you who feel cheated - they don't know you did it the hard way.
Guy KNEW they were getting survivor and for his final show of maturity yelled SURVIVE THIS as he pulled a mob.... Direct violation so long as people care enough to /report it.
To the OP, sorry there are so many jerks but yes, keep to guildies or trusted friends and so forth - it's less of a headache - or if you must pay for a run then don't state you are a survivor.
Just the same if enough people /report on a person over time, eventually it will ring bells somewhere and down comes the long overdue banstick.
I find longer lasting effects from being kind. But then, I never PUG unless at least one other guildie is with me and they push the issue. Sad really, PUGs used to be worth it.

I suppose its all very easy to say use a reliable friend, use guildmates, and don't pug.
There is one major problem with that kind of attitude. How do you get friends or join a guild group without pugging?
I have achieved legendary on one character so far and did so utilising skill to get to level 20 and then relying on the help of my partner and tactics to get their. Not all have this ability. And some may even want to get survivor on their first charcter if they research the game before playing.

Ok, that is just.....MEAN! I realize it's the way of the world, but wow, cannot understand that sort of person.
I reached survivor on 2 characters and I fought the entire time with each (no runners, no special treatment) but I also had to avoid pugs like the proverbial plague the entire process. Never got beyond the first level of that title though - one was SO close to the next and I ran into a mission that pretty well required an actual party... *sobbing* hehe But it wasn't a title I was trying for, just an "if it happens" type of thing. It is quite fun, though, to challenge yourself with that one - play as you normally would and see how far you can get.
Thinking back, it is pretty sad that, in order to achieve a goal (whether anyone else likes it or not is moot), you have to avoid other living players!

Remember the GW community while it has a large showing of mature players, Also has the 5 yr olds that are in it just to screw someone else.
And with the game showing its ages its starting to be that the 5yr olds are starting to become the majority, as most of the others are either retired from the game, or only play it occasionally waiting for GW2 to happen.

I remember once just after factions came out, I was running this one little ele...(I felt so bad!). Sounds like the same area, minitars? Anyway, i had told her, stay by the gate, if the minitars come, go thru the gate and we will start over. no biggie. JUST DONT DIE! Well, they came at her and she panicked. died. She was lvl 15. So close yet so far. I never found out if she started over or gave up. But as to the people that hate the survivors...I just belive they hate them because they dont have the smarts to do it them selves. As for those trying to achive it, or have achived it, GOOD JOB...wish i had the patience for it.

Yes, "shock horror: internet full of a$$holes" is hardly going to be a headline anytime soon, but coming face to face with that level of sheer pointless malevolence is _always_ going to be a surprise. You know idiots are out there, but the idea that they're out there and JUST WAITING for an opportunity to ruin your day is...hard to ever get used to.
And to be honest, it's not something you ever SHOULD get used to: that would leave you simply avoiding all people online, ever. And while sorting the wheat from the chaff is hardly trivial, when you meet a GOOD player, they're far more worthwhile holding onto that a hero or a henchie.
I mean, I'll take a level 14 warrior who _listens_ over a level 20 devona or koss, any day.
I worry that the sheer mass of idiots will lead to a situation where basically nobody pugs at all, ever. It's bad enough already, since most of the people you'd actually _like_ to pug with have already made the decision to H/H wherever possible, so you're often left with exactly the kind of person our OP has encountered.
And that's sad.
