I hate vanquishing

Yea I learned pretty quick to check for any glitches or crap before I vanquished an area, having been screwed by both the 'disappearing mob' trick and the junundu smash down the pillar oops you have no adrenaline trick.

after going back and waiting for the pansies to flee for the portal i was sucessful.

On topic: I just vanquished Talus Chute a couple days ago starting from Drok's and didn't have this problem. However, I've heard similar bugs with North Kryta Province and a few other areas. It'd really help if ANet changed it.

After x time in a zone and the party has killed 95%+ of the creeps, the remaining creeps ought to move to some specific spot or just to the player.

I remember when me and guildie did the vanquish of Talus a couple of months ago. We split up and wandered everywhere looking for a group - then we read the notes about the glitch (Doh).
We both started racing for the Icedome portal. My guildie got there and tried to attack them to turn them around but they just zoned through before he could reach them. I was just catching a glimpse of it all from long range and was screaming Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!.
Then wonder of wonders up comes the big golden mask and we got awarded the vanquish .
So after my experience I am not entirely sure if this is still really a glitch or not. Its a very hard thing to prove one way or the other. We had found an ice-imp patrol about 5 mins earlier that was in an area we had covered at least twice before (in fact we had even killed an earlier group at that location).
So from all that, I would not be so certain that you did get everything and that the glitch is still functioning. Maybe you missed that patrol and you do Anet an injustice - and maybe you don't.
Cheers

if they zone thru the portal, the game should have register it as they are gone/dead, thats what I get in Delrimor Bowl, there were 6 ettins waiting at the exit to Griffon's Mouth from a quest, when I approached them, they run thru the portal and I have the area vanquished. maybe you have some thing else not done?

When hard mode was first introduced, I remember vanquishing Saoshang Trail and realising that it so wasn't my thing.
Reading all these horror stories just reconfirms my decision.

I have VQ everything with my necro 100% H/H, It was so long that i'm disgusted. I'll never do it again with another character.
But looking for a more exciting challenge for my necro, I decided to solo VQ with no armor, no skill and no weapon...
I failed.
Have a nice day.

I've vanquished a few areas around Ascalon, just getting ready for Vanquisher title, and I decided to start on Nightfall, doing the Plains of Jarin. Now, before I begin this story, I must point out, in the 3 years I've had Guild Wars, I've only error 7'd about a dozen times and my game has never outright crashed.
I looked up on wiki for any anomalies and found none, and the average monster count was 198. After about a half hour, I had 196. I ran around for a few minutes and found the group I missed, 2 skales or something. I engaged them and proceeded to kill the first, as the second one was dying, I error 7. I got scared for a sec, but I just hit the reconnect button. Upon reconnecting to the game, Guild Wars crashes. Big sarcastic "wow..." from me. Anyway, I boot Guild Wars back up, hoping that they give me the Vanquish, because that 2nd skale was dead as far as I could tell. I press M... silly me, I'm still in Normal Mode. So, I press the Hard Mode button on the party window, and what happens but Guild Wars crashes again. So, I do a restart, boot Guild Wars back up... again. Hit Hard Mode, press M, and... not vanquished. There goes about 40 minutes of my life...

Oh man, after vanquishing all of tyria and cantha, I just can't find the inspiration to wrap up Elona.
Lucky enough, from what I have done in Elona, it is the most interesting continent (to me) in the vanquishing lineup. I cleared the area the OP talked about with no problems.
One thing I suggest in vanquishing is sliding along the edge while holding ctrl to look for enemies. If i see none around me i sweep back and forth (still holding ctrl) through the map, and if there are none in the direction, i pull away to avoid triggering popups. Although, Elona has been much different from tyria and cantha so far... :/

vanquishing isnt fun imo i have done it at least 4-5 times every time i get Bord out of my mind, looking for that last foe.

I have done Cantha and I've just finished Elona.
I'm 21/54 in Tyria from various guild outings.
Most of my guildies have finished theirs so I'm doubting to do Tyria or not.
I once spend 30 min looking arround for the last foe. Walking acros an entire area again. To discover a level 3 tiger who had turned red somehow.
I fired all my heroes and henchies on the spot. Hitting a level 3 tiger without killing it is an unforgivable failure.
VQn really should have an arrow pointing towards the nearest enemy from the moment you've killed more than 75% of the monsters. It's about killing them, not finding them.

somehow lots of people are against ideas like this odly. its been suggested, same as explorers , when you are at 99% there should be something that tells you where/what you've missed ....

problem there is a guy who hides in the middle of that stretch you missed

I vanquished a few areas too. You don't have to you know. If it really frustrates you just don't. And as some guy earlier said, there's no patrols in that area. So if you have any cartho titles, I think you don't deserve them. And also, if you use some common sense, it won't take you THAT long to track a patrol down.

If you methodically go into an area then vanquishing is not all that difficult.
If you have walked the entire area going in one direction and are still missing a few, walk back the opposite direction you went when vanquishing. 99% of the time you will run into the patrol you missed in a short amount of time.
How you spend 50min walking around an area and not finding an enemy is kind of puzzling. Most areas dont take much more than that to vanquish.

Looking for them shouldn't be the point of the exercise anyway.
How about : "When you enter an explorable zone in HM, you get a temporary 'vanquish area X' quest that you can activate through the quest window. This quest will have the usual green arrow and green star pointing towards unvanquished foes in your area."
I don't care if it's the nearest or not as long as it will point towards unvanquished foes it will help finding that last patrol/group you've missed.

How about just pressing the control and alt key and presto all enemys in the area are shown!
Paul Dawg
Another way to do it would have been to target one of the margonites above you and do Junundu Siege (which is an energy skill, not an adrenaline skill). That knocks down the pillar too.
Too late now, I guess.

I agree with others that there should be some type of percentage allowed for the last few or an indicator of the general area in which a mob might be.
Davros Uitar
I don't think it should be made too easy (ie by having finding skills etc) but one thing that would encourage people sticking with the vanquish is a simple message that comes up when there are only 5 thinks left to kill. That way you know how many there are to find, and how viable it is to split up and scatter your hunting party.
Paul Dawg
Just look at the kill bar! It should be easy to gauge approximately how many groups you have left to kill.
