That sucks. Must have been a patrol that you just kept missing.

Yeah.. That's exactly why I hate vanquishing too. I don't do it often because of that.

The vanquishing title means a lot.

I personally can see enough little spots where you weren't, where such a single creepy thign could have been hiding from you XD
And in this area are mostly absolutely no patrols. All monsters there don't move very far away from some spots. There is no monster there, that likes to marsh from 1 point to another. all creatures there have mostly fix areas, where they stand around.
Uhm, you know, that you can see Monsters and NPC's, when pressing alt+contrl? When not, use it ever, it will drastically reduce the chance, that you will oversee a creature next time and change in the options menu the setting so, that you wil see the names ever with full color, regardless how far they are away from you.

lol, I see it.
Near the lower-left portal to the next city, you can see a small passage from the portal to the body of water directly above it. It looks like an "L".
Ctrl + Alt + good eyes help.

Thats why when I vanquish, I try to map the whole area, so I know I've seen everything.
Kyomi Tachibana
Hehe yeah, I had to run around this map for an extra 15 minutes to find the last bugger. :x
For me it was a guy wandering around the upper left corner of the Sunspear Great Hall.

I wish vanquishing - and mapping for that matter - had a small %age or allowance of missed enemies/areas. Like 5-10 and 1% - give or take - would make those title tracks soooo less frustrating - and pointlessly so since again, you're missing like 3-4 enemies. Every other vanquish run I do I have to go on a 20-40 minute hunt for the last one or two, gets sooooo old.
Xirno
You haven't been everywhere.
I remember searching for my last enemy as well on that vanquish, with the Iboga being in the area you missed. Luckilly I found it after 5 minutes. Always hold CTRL when searching for that final enemy.

A better idea is to have something like the quest marker thing that selects the closest enemy once you've killed 90% of the enemies. Make it orange or something.

i love vanquishing because of this exact thing, you scream and shout, sometimes spit, but never quit, leave the comp on over night with it minimized , when you find that ba**ard, wooooo

It's times like these that you wish Zho's personal skills actually came useful...Zho the great tracker, I sense a disturbence in the soil...to EAST!
Angelus...
Don't forget the Mandragors, I see a little spot where you could have missed some.

Voltaic Annihilator
I went to the spot you showed me, during the that vanquish, i already took out that patrol...you dont need to go all the way in to get to them
psycore
worse when GW bugs out and you fail a vanq cause of an anet coding error.

Funny thing is that this was the zone that I first vanquished, and I had the same problem : it took me a lot of time to find that one little monster, but after searching every little places, I found him.
Also another zone on this island made me go trough the same thing...
After that I decided to stop vanquishing. But one day my friend forced me to vanquish Tyria with her, and I discovered something : Elona is the most annoying place in all of Tyria (the same applies for skill hunter/mission/cartography) xD.

I don't like vanquishing either, not that it's too hard but just because it's so annoying when you miss a group somewhere.
Not to mention the gold reward sux big time.

Anyway, on topic:
Vanquishing does suck at first, but you'll develop a technique that you can stick to once you kind of figure out what you're looking for and what kind of gaps you need to revisit and if you see moving groups to get them while you see them. I suggest doing cartography along with vanquishing. It's longer but in my experience more efficient to go around the outside of the area scraping and killing every group you see then make "pinch" points where you can segment off the area into what you've seen and what you haven't.
Sorry about your first experience being a crap one though.
odly
Vanquishing should be about killing enemies, not finding them.
Maybe when there's only 5% left they should show up on the map or something like that.

I've never missed a few monsters after searching the whole area.
As others have said, you've missed quite alot of spots. I can see 3 parts you've missed. Learn to cover the whole area before you come moaning on here.

just trying to see waht you are saying, because in my game elona is: voice that sould like james earl jones: land of the rising sun.
and tyria is well across ocean over ----------> there...
pointer for vanquishing map: wall hugs then criss cross.
before i forget, i like to vanquish mwahahahaha its fun, you try a couple of times can't do it, change build, try again, repeat, and then one day you find, OMG I AM VERY GOOD AT THIS , and you've become a bulldozer, crushing everything in your path.

Well, there could be a similar kind of pointing system as with quests (only red arrow and star) that would always indicate the location of the closest (unlurked) enemy on the map while vanquishing. Would be quite helpful without spoiling the challenge.
When I started VQing I encountered the problem quite often but towards the end I learned to sweep diligently enough to get everything on the first go.

That's why I'm not vanquishing anything. If I had to run ~30 minutes and search for one red dot my heart would pop.
Though ironically out of boredom I've vanquished this area in Elona ~~

The only problem I remember when vanquishing, is cleaning everything and not being able to kill the last few monsters because death penalty or because my build is not right for that last monsters.
BTW, I see you aren't a noob, because you use 3 necros, GG!

oooooo, nice, i've never picture it like that before. should have guess since we can arrive in ports on shops ey! thanks wraithe

I had a similar problem with Iron Horse Mines. One stupid patrol that took forever to find. I thought I'd just wait for them to come along on their patrol route. Then I thought I wasn't on their patrol route, so I went searching. I wasn't wrong about their route, they were hung up on the scenery.
P.S. Finding those "lost" groups goes a lot faster with guildies/friends.

why does everyone complain about this? o.O
It's LOGIC where the last patroll/guy is >_> Come on...
Just look at the map, think logically and go to where he is.

finding the missing guy/patrol taking as much time as VQ the rest of the map is pretty commonplace

And yeah it sucks when you miss one last bugger in a vanquish but i am usually pretty good and walk along the walls and fight my way in cirlces slowly closing in towards the centre, works nearly every time.

Tips
Ctrl key ftw
Be metodic... i walk and made all borders first, and for the last walk in the center, dont go for any team try to be systemic, but kill any "walking team" of foes, some patrols walk all area...
Kown the area this make things go faster... the OP, say i go to eveyplace, but its untrue, first time i see the map i see the part he forget...
This tips dont be areas easyer, its just to avoid the lost patrols or foes...
