Have you been banned for your name?

I find the whole notion of banning because of names as ridiculous as the names that are getting banned. The whole thing is senseless as those who want a stupid and immature name will find some way of getting their stupid and pointless message to others through all manner of "clever" hiding and spelling tricks so the filter can't see it, but people can.

Names I've used that were maybe a little off:

Farging Eyeshole...not banned while I had it.
Chapeau De Merde...not banned.(Hat of Shit in French, yes, that's right...Shit Hat)
Pet Black Moa: Big Pecker...not banned.
Testicular Triumph...not banned.

While these names are a bit on the stupid side, I think it is within my rights, while playing a T rated game, to display a name that may be said on prime time television or a PG13 movie.

Names I've used or use now are usually appropriate to a fantasy game context: Alotta Sparks, Angellica Darkling, Malice Wyrmscale, Maggie Blacktongue, Childe Deschaine...all of which have a certain "fantasy" flavor.

What I don't get is how/why the filtration blocks seemingly random names...For instance:

Malice Wyrmscale and Maggie Blacktongue are fine, but Digger Wyrmtongue contains disallowed words or parts of words...blah, blah, blah. And NO, it isn't Digger that's the problem...It's "Wyrmtongue!"...why, why, why? Wyrm+scale=ok, Black+tongue=ok, but Wyrm+tongue=no-no? WTF? I mean really?

Senseless and stupid in my humble opinion, and I'm a teacher! I deal with senseless and stupid double standards all the time. I can honestly see Salty Nut Sack getting the boot...maybe. But some of the disallowed and banned names are just plain silly...Tigger Bits...only becomes a problem if you are prone to Spoonerisms, and yet as soon as I post this, I'm making that toon in factions...she will have a tiger named Tigger and I will see if it gets banned....oooooh, Ima get banned if someone doesn't love Disney! People are stupid...a person may be smart, but in groups there is no limit to what depths people will sink to....grrrrr...get off my internets!!!

I just see a lot of those names as proof that the person behind the character is 12 years old or has the maturity level of a 12 year old.

Personally when forming a party for a mission I avoid these characters. Most of them make the name knowing it will offend and I expect these characters will also cause problems on the mission. (Most of the time I've been right too)

If I need 1 more elementalist to go and "Sofa King Hott" and "Flamecaller Lia" both ask to join then I'll take Lia and go.

I actually find a lot of these names hilarious. Fug has a gold award post and come on some of these names have you rolling for hours.

Yeah, I was banned for my name before (The Japslapper) but meh I didn't really care I could use the fresh air I guess. Sometimes name bans are completely unjustified and sometimes they aren't. If you really wanna avoid getting the banhammer for your name for good, call yourself something Japanese and Naruto-sounding Anet likes those.

i had around 30 people threaten to report an elementalist i made for RA because i named him pus ssy hound. also made chars like rap eing yo face, stick in yo mouth, and lots of stuff. usually it was only people i beat that threatened to report.

I've been banned for a week for having the name "Avatar Of Teh Jezus". Apparently, some people get offended by Jesus.

I got banned for: "No Secks For You" , which i find completely retarded. All these guilds are running around with that new guild tag that spells [SHIT] with korean letters, and I get banned for that?

Yep been there. Banned for the stupidest of names. I blame all those no lifers (mostly lonely obese housewives and old, unmarried, balding, male virgins with boring, unsatisfying, dead end jobs) with nothing better to do other than police the world outside their four little walls of solitude. People who get easily offended by every little thing should just become priests and nuns.

I love it when people with names like that get banned, its very amusing to me, Most people who have nasty names are sarcastic asses in the game so its just desserts for them to get banned.

A lot of parents play guildwars, and video games in general, and so do their children. Parents often do not want their kids exposed to mental filth and have realised that every game has its fill, So instead of not playing games at all they contact support and get these people who take names like penutbutter balls and get them banned. Its for the kids, or for their own amusment.

I'v never reported a name like that, but I can still giggle when someone else does.

its immature, because you can expect from people of the age of 18+ something more creative, than retarded Insults and braindead Wannabe-Jokes full of Xxxx's or IIIIII's as names for their fantasy characters. Those people are creative enough to think about 5 minutes or logner for such retarded names, but don't get the same 5 minutes to think about a real fantasy name that fits to a fantasy game like GW ? Don't make me laugh.
It's simple weak to say that, that you are not creative enough for real fantasy names. Wherefore do exist on the internet countless of fantasy name generators, where you just need to click on a button to get a whole list presented with Name Examples, what you need to do only so long, until you get shown something, that you like as name, that you do then onkly twice, once for first name, then once for last name and finish.

Takes really not longer, than to think about such immature Insult-Names or pretending to be Fun-Names.
However, personally for me its regardless, how much tons of such retarded names exist in PvP, but hopefully for GW2 will have PvE a much stronger Name Filter and System, that watches over character names so that they fit to PvE, because such names would multimple ugly XXX's in and stuff, that isn't anyhow at all a name just disturbs in PvE People, which take some value on this Gameplay Mode to have as much RP flair, as possible.

This is as much as disturbing, as if you would go as Smoker into a Room full of Non-Smokers, were Smoking is forbidden and start there in to smoke then the complete Room full.
But thats only my opinion about this. It gives people which see that so extreme like me, but naturally also people, which care a shit about that, as long they aren't personally involved with such people. And people which care even lesser, the problem for anet lies there to find a good solution. They are still the only ones which can do somethign against that. Our reports against vulgary names are only lke a drop of water on a hot stone compared to Anet's abilities to change thigns simple and to improve and keep the name filters actualized, because as logn this doesn't happen, it will be easy for people to bypass the filters, so easily like its here easy to bypass the word f.u.c.k.i.n.g for example.


All this about these retarded names is just a matter of good behavior, tolerance and creativity. 3 important thigns you should could expect from mature players. Plus everyone has signed on the EULA and under it stay the Gameplay Rules. From mature players you should could expect, that they keep on the rules, that they've signed to become able to play the game.
If you break them, then is simple your own fault, that you get banned and then you simple deserve the ban. There is then not much to talk about then anymore and discussing the own stupidity here won't change anything about it ...

Where have we gone wrong here people....crude humor is OK and so are suggestive themes...Looks to me like other than the word PHUQUE and obvious racism, we should be fine...BTW, is simulated consumption of alcohol and drugs (Absinthe) appropriate for a teen audience? I'm just thinking that banning some dude with a toon named Phil McKrackin, Salt E Balls or some other stupid name is...just stupid. Yeah, Fuh Que is obviously in need of a thump from the banstick, but most of the other stuff isn't really offensive...it's just dumb.

Maybe if they stick to banning that which is obviously offensive to large groups of people....hmmmm....leave out religion and race, sexual violence to humans or animals, any sex that is not the missionary position, the "F" word and anything involving Legolas....I think that covers it...It leaves "potty" humor, body part references, 3 of the 7 dirty words you are never able to say on TV (plus the 3 auxiliary), politics and German Baroque Opera...There. We are good to go....lets move on with our lives knowing that Hefty Boobage, Butter Nut Squash, Gherkin Jerker, Oliver Clothesoff, Peter Draggin, Clawd Balls and Squirl E Nut Buster are safe to exist another day.

No. I'm not dumb enough to get myself banned. People, if you get banned for knowingly making a certain IGN, you deserve it. I've never /reported someone for being offended by a name, but honestly... Don't whine about getting your account temp. banned when you should've known you had it coming. If you couldn't tell, get off this planet. >_>

(P.S. I know not all names fall into the glaringly obvious category. There are some fairly harmless names out there that get temp banned anyways.)

Back near topic: What is offensive to some, may be harmless to others...A bald monk named Cancer Patient might rub a few folks the wrong way...My mom had breast cancer, my aunt had it, my uncle died of a brain tumor and a good friend of mine recently recovered from lung cancer...am I offended at the name? Not really. It seems a tad unsensitive, but then, that's the way people are.

My favorite char's name got banned, after having played it for about 4months.

I loved the name, thought it was funny, creative and amusing. Most guys I met ingame told me "nice name", "funny name" and some others just didn't get the 'joke'. But somehow someone didn't like it... so it got banned.

For all of you (Phoenix namely) saying that it's a shame we make up non-fantasy names, take it from my perspective.

It's a computer game, one I will play, then turn off, and go swimming, work out, chill with friends, engage in real life STUFF.

The environment/story isn't REAL. There's no reason to get involved with your character for any weird fantasy reason.

Sure, roleplayers will exist, but it's quite creepy to force feed players the fantasy aspect. Furthermore, it's actually more infantile to get so enamored with the fantasy aspect than my casual indulgence of immature humor.

I think Phoenix is just trying to say that if you are supposed to be mature, you shouldn't be coming up with names like "lolCockzlol", etc. The name typically reflects on the person. I've never reported anyone with an "inappropriate" name, but I would have doubts about being in the party with someone with a name like that. It makes me think they are immature and will throw random insults at people. It doesn't mean it's necessarily true, but that is what a name like that can connotate sometimes.

No we don't. Lame ripoffs of existing characters are lame. We'd like original names that don't also sound incredibly stupid. People like "Legolas Bravebeard" belong with people like "X X Pwntzor X X" or "Sa Suke Uch Iha."

Yea well I find names like Masamune Itchiha or Mitsurugi Idutaka extremely annoying and personally I'd rather have "Lololol U Sayd Penus." Well not exactly that immature but I'd like names with a bit of humor. Not everyone needs to go sporting an extremely serious Japanese name.

I have been banned for a name before and i noticed the otherday when i got an item that was precustomised for it it has the original name on it. Thats pretty nice. I hadnt thought about the name i got banned for in about 2 years so it was a good lol when i saw it again.

I play games to have fun, to escape from the mundane reality that is real life. I can't name my kid Kunt Puncher so I'll name a group of pixels Kunt Puncher, got a problem with it, look the other way imo.
