Funny incorrect pronunciations

I was just exploring the wiki page on bladed aatxes when I noticed the trivia at the bottom. It said that aatxe is pronounced ah-che, now I don't know if this is true but if it is, I've been pronouncing it quite incorrect for the last 2 years. All this time I've always pronounced aatxe as axe-atee and now that I look carefully at this, it sure seems completely incorrect .

So basically I'm wondering what kind of funny incorrect pronunciations have you guys had, could be a friend who corrected you or maybe one of the in game cutscenes.

Meh, I'm pretty sure its not "Ah-che", they are too dangerous to be called such a retarded name.

It's a bull-like creature from Basque mythology (said to hunt down criminals and the like at night-time and all that)

The Basque language just have a different pronunciation of 'tx' - to quote Wiki, "Basque also features postalveolar sibilants (/ʃ/, written x, and /ʧ/, written tx), sounding like English sh and ch."

So, yeah - ah-che is correct.

I don't care though, ah-che doesn't roll off the tongue as easy as ah-tax

So, yeah.

I pronounce aatxes "axes". But i usually just call them goats. I call 75% of the monsters in guild wars goats.
I also pronounce barrage "barridge" just because i refuse to say any word with a french accent. Ever.

Being half deaf, for me language is primarily a visual construct of written words and phonetics is something that happens to other people That said, regardless of how people pronounce in-game names they very regularly make errors when writing them as well. According to my observations Elonian names are particularly difficult in this respect, to an extent that it may require some guesswork to find out the actual name behind a garbled rendition. I must assume that this is related to the poor correlation between written and spoken English. In my native language there is a direct relation between a letter and a phoneme and I tend to do less mistakes than native English speakers.

And why do people keep writing ataxe or aataxe?

Maybe, but I'd think a large part of it is down to laziness on the part of English speakers, or to the many people speaking English only as a second or third language, using it to comunicate with everyone else more easily.

one thing i utterly despise is when people say TOMBS. TOMES PEOPLE TTTTTTOOOMMMMMMMEEEEEESSSSSSSS. Tomes. Plural of Tome. How the hell does it make sense to learn a skill by studying a tomb? that is just ridiculous

Inscriptable. Battery (sense 3 is the only valid one in martial contexts). Linebacker. Dozens of others that I don't have at the tip of my fingers but find perennially irritating.

GW is rife with misuse and misunderstandings.

Wait, what? The only time I've seen 'battery' used in a GW context is to refer to a necro with Blood Ritual or Blood is Power--in which case battery makes a lot of sense, as they provide energy to other things.

I have no idea what you're getting at, here.

"Battery" as a combat role entails plinking your enemies with projectiles, not slashing your wrists to feed your medics. I am sure you understood this already, but I am just humoring your faux incomprehension.

And 'monk' as a combat role entails singing inspirational gregorian chants to the troops, or maybe even some bare-hand combat if they are of the Shaolin variety

The last time I checked 'blood magic' was not a recognized martial art form and the thing the necros do (providing energy) is fairly well described by the term 'battery'.

Hmm I must be making loads of mistakes.

I call:

Aatxe = "Attacks",
Sliver Armour = Silver Armour
Essence of Celerity = Essence of Celery

I also have a friend who calls chitin. chi-tin but I think it should be pronounced kye-tin (sorry I don't know the correct way to write it phonetically).
