While browsing guru for a while I've found myself staring the screen with the greatest astonishment I have even known; Players are offering sums of 4000e and up for a mini Panda. After regaining consciousness and eventually deciding NOT to commit suicide, I've decided to open a new thread about the whole Ultra-Super-Duper-Rich-Guys matter.

I'm playing GW for about 30 months now and I've never felt that pathetic.

Players all around me mention buying their 23rd Obsidian set, their 7th perfect Crystalline Sword and their 80th set of chaos gloves (one of each color for each of their chars!

). I dunno what about you, but I feel like killing somebody.

Getting incredibly rich never seemed so easy. Yet, I'm feeling like the poorest player on the game. While I'm desperately trying to get a Glob of Ectoplasm, some players prefer not to pick them up because their inventory just can't contain any more of these.

Is god playing with my mind? Could it be I'm the unluckiest man on earth? Or maybe I'm just a big, fat n00b?

I turn to you, dear GW players. What are YOUR opinions and thoughts about this matter?

People just farm ALOT, one of my guild members managed to farm 80 ectos in a day :/

So really its up to you, if you want ectos and stuff farm for it at the cost of a lot of time.

And people trade.

I figure that people with that kind of money are the really good power traders. There's just no way to reasonably farm that kind of cash.

And don't feel bad, you don't need a panda.

Just pick up everything as you play, don't spend wastefully, and you'll never find yourself unable to get most things.

sooo many ppl duped ectos,mini-pets, armbraces etc.. over the past 3 years and have since moved a lot of them on, as for the whole - Anet banned all accounts that duped armbraces... LOL, that was proven false on wintersday last year when ppl were offering 1750 armbraces (yep 7 stacks of armbraces) for a mini-polar bear, this also occured about a month ago when there were 6 diff ppl selling a mini-polar bear (when there are only supposed to be 3 confirmed drops) again offers of 1500+ armbraces were being given

if you had farmed DoA in nightfall from day 1 for 8 hours a day you still wouldnt have 7 stacks of armbraces even now

A-nets much vaunted banning for duping is a load of rubbish IMO whenever you see any uber high-end items for sale you will always see some of the same 20-30 ppl bidding for it and a-net can do nothing as they cannot now proved how they duped or received items.

I can't wait for gw2 as everything these ppl now own means a big fat ZERO and I am hoping that a-net keep a closer eye on how monies and items are acquired in game

give up every other aspect of life and you too can become that rich.

Seriously all it takes it the right gear/build and time. I will never be that rich, or even close to it, because I don't want to dedicate that much time to a subpar game.

4000e uber rich players with the nicest looking items in the game and 20 stacks of ambraces still die in pvp and pve, so all that wealth doesnt mean jack when it counts.

And even if they are super rich and never die in the game and are the greatest player ever, they probably work at jack in the box and live in their uncles basement snorting pop rocks with a mountain dew chaser.

Who cares if they are rich and can buy 102485 pandas. You play your game and play it the way you like it. Knowing that someone owns 102485 pandas does not make me feel poor or pathetic.

Oh, and since you mentioned about people offering 4000ectos on the panda, don't forget most of them are bidding without even having 1% of it. They bid with e-peen.

What's the point of being that rich? if you can afford every thing in the game.......I rather be poor this way if I want something it's like Goal that keeps me playing, because if I was that rich I would Quit GW, I am not into titles, don't care for it, I love Swords and armors, I want a second set of FOW and that's my new goal right now.

You can probably max out a good PvE build for all of about 20k start to finish. The expensive bit is usually the armour, but if you get the 1k stuff (which is every bit as good, just sometimes less visually distinctive), you don't need to spend huge amounts on that either. The rest goes into buying the skills pretty much, and that's not huge either. Get a decent green endgame weapon and you should be set. If you want a good gold it'll take you longer though (but that said you can usually buy them + components for < 20k).

As people mentioned, who cares if they're that richer than you? Does it affect your fun in game that someone has a panda and you don't?

I don't think farming is the main source of 'income' for these people, it's definitely power trading and through duping. Thing is for these kind of games, rich people just get richer. Because you can buy a high end item, this is usually a high end pet and then resell for a profit. Because it's a high end item, the profit gained is huger, repeat. The fact you now have more gold, you can do this twice for example, gain twice as much profit, repeat... Power trading wins.

I take it you didnt see the bid for 10k ectos in the same thread (said post has since been retracted/removed by a mod). It is entirely possible to be that rich, people could make 2million in a week when urgoz was new, before prot bond was nerfed people were making tonnes of ectos a day and then selling them for 10k ea, or keeping hold of them and selling them for more/less depending on fluctuation, the first ever torm wep was sold for something like 6mill, so just getting a good group and stomping through there in the early days before ursan could net you a fair bit.

Nowadays there arent as many ways to get rich, with the price of armbraces dropping by the day, and most good farming pots being sent to hell its harder than it used yo be. But still entirely possible

There is a great deal of luck involved here. It takes some very good timing to get in on a quick money making build/farm/exploit before it gets nerfed.

I know a player that made tonnes of money long ago when the europe dists were split from ours and thier merchants/traders had items at different prices then ours.(the other day he showed off a trade window with 7 full stacks of ectos) I also know a few that made mad money farming with the very first 55monk build before Protective Bond was first nerfed.

I may not be in a class with the 4000ecto crowd but I like to think I've done quite well just by playing the game. I've got FoW/chaos gloves/rare skinned items/ect...
My only secret was to not spend money on anything I either A) couldn't resell for more or B) wasn't 100% certain I would keep forever.

I've never farmed past the point of finding that a build works, I don't powertrade, I don't scam. I estimate I've been making about 250k a month - average - during this time I've been playing. I find that enough for my titles/armours/minipets.

On the other hand if you feel you fail at the game you probably are.

Once you get "kinda rich" assuming you have a very good knoledge of the economy you can get really rich though trading.

You can make stacks of money easily in this game...if you're willing to do nothing but farm and trade. Thing is though, farming is mind numbingly boring for most, and power trading? Never understood why anybody would waste their time unless they're going to make a humongous profit from reselling something they probably scammed off some newbie. If it's a matter of a few k...then it just baffles me.

Meh, I know for a fact people probably buy my stuff off the guru auctions and sell it on for higher prices in game. I sell low...so I DON'T have to waste all my play-time standing around in a town spamming WTS. I don't find that much fun...lol

If you're feeling low on cash though, try doing one or two farming runs a day (no need to go crazy with it). It's better than just standing around wishing your bank was a bit fuller anyways

i don't mind so much that other players are supder duper rich.

my story is this:
I was starting to feel very good because after some time practicing with various different build that I can finally vanquish areas without difficulty, meaning not get wipe out as much as I use to.

then a friend told me that they wanted to vanquish an area, and one of their guildies is going to help out, but my friends is in another mission, so while waiting for my friends to do other stuffs, within 3+ hours the super duper players had the whole of cantha vanquished.

lol sooooooo that just made my feel very good about myself drop back to 0....

so the answer to your question is yes players can get that rich if they can vanquished cantha in 3+hours.

I saw that post as well, I was shocked to see a bid of 4100 ectos. I mean I know there are people with several stacks of ectos, but that is over 16 stacks. Makes me impressed and or saddened depending on how it was obtained.

Yes, it sounds very much. It's also very much but not impossible I guess.

1. Some people dedicated all their time to farming.
For example: Farming the Domain of Anguish just after release and making a fullrun earned most 1000K+ each day by selling all their drops. Titan Gemstones were far above 100K each.

2. Some people got lucky with some mini-pets and sold them.

3. Nowadays you can win the monthly tournament. With the reward of 4500 Reward Points you can get quite some Zaishen Keys and trade them for Ecto's/Gold.
Don't forget Balthasar Faction as well. Performing well in PvP (GvG and HA).
Also winning the Hall of Heroes a few times a day gives you Celestial Sigils. Still worth 10K each. However, they used to be 80K+ back in the days.

4. Some people used bugs and maybe their weren't caught by Anet. The duping incident for example that allowed people to duplicate valuable items.

I never farm, I'll never own some minipets and I'll never finish my Resilience Monument because
1. I think farming is boring and I'd rather have fun with the time I have on GW.
2. Minipets do nothing for me.

I think the ϋber rich guys are overcompensating for something.

Its possible, probably need a little bit more luck than usual. Like holding on to something which unexpectedly increased in price by few 100 times. Compare mini pets prices pre and post armbrace duping. If you held on to a panda which you bought pre duping and sold it post duping, imagine the profit you made.

And if you own 5 pandas, 3 kanaxais, 3 Shirokens, 5 Vizu, 2 Ghostly, 7 Island Guardians ... ... ... (Numbers are made up

Its not that hard to get 4k ectos if you are a no-life-trader (there are several of these ingame) OR you get somehow REALLY lucky. Of course, there are the dupers/ebayers too. But who cares? Deal with it, be happy that you have a life and you dont spend $$ on ingame stuff.

You dont really have to do a lot to get rich in guildwars, as someone mentioned above you get 4.5mil worth of reward points if you win the monthly GvG tournament, you still get 2.5mil~ if you finish top8 which seems to be the fastest way of getting gold currently but the only real use of that gold is to sell online for some real cash since theres nothing ingame to buy.

I dont see why you would want cash at all, ive not played WoW to the extent where i can really comment on the high-end gear but from what people have told me you cant ever run out of things to buy even if your one of those 12hr a day players.
In guildwars theres no epic items to be had and all armour comes from traders with unlimited stock, people might consider rare minipets as being desirable items since they are limited but they dont improve anything about your character and are likely to become readily available before GW2 to allow people to finalise their HoM so your not missing out on anything by having no gold.

Even the bragging rights that people did enjoy by owning multiple ecto stacks was thrown well out the window when the duping bug came along.

It's same as with everything else in life.

Working 9-5 will get you some money per hour. To get something, you need to work this and that many hours.

And then, some people earn billions in just a few years. And they don't get paid $523,000 an hour, nor does their day have 5976 hours.

But same as in game, this type of wealth is virtual. Billionaires do not have 500 suitcases full of money. Their value fluctuates with market, and their worth is defined by their portfolio.

For this type of business, there is no upper limit, especially in game economy, where supply and resources are infinite.

And after all these years, people dedicated to earning money could have that much. Who and how earned it however will always be a matter of specualtion. Despite that - there's nothing that would prevent anyone from earning this much.

Just ingore all these rich people around you, they either have duped items or they just play loads of gw and trade all the time. The thing is though that once you have a bit of money and you start trading your winnings grow bigger and bigger, because you can buy the more expensive stuff and sell it for even more money. But I could never play GW all day and just stand around and trade items, I tried it once, and I made some money, but it's just so boring.

I duped potatoes the other day. I went to this uber duping hot spot called a "supermarket" apparently. Instead of 1 I got 5! I totally dun want to have my account banned so I deleted them all of course.

I've always been under the impression that you need some luck with that as well in RL. It's not like everyone earns 9.000.000 euro's a year by playing Football like Kaka. Or maybe winning the lotery was easier than I thought.
