ok... see. This is an example... I can also add trades I really had.
I stand in Kamadan. See someone selling: Mini Ghostly= 800e! I buy it. Selling it about 1hour later to a guy from friendlist for 1100e or so (just for example). That way I can make 300e in 1hour.
Ok, I usually need to stand in Kamadan a lot of time, to be that "lucky", but with the right connections and so, that's no real problem. I have an average playtime of 5hours a day. I know, that's much, but I still have a life! I go to school, get good grades, go to the cinema, watch movies, take driving lessons, hang around with friends, blah
And I am one of the "rich" guys you're talking about. But do you know why I do that trading stuff? I do it, because it's fun to me. I know, there are weirdos buying 1000000 of platinum at ebay or so, but I don't mind. There are a lot of guys, who have better Z-Rank, Minis, more cash etc. than me. I don't like having money, but making money. I am angry if I lose money, but I know it's just a game! So I don't worry to much... buying/selling is my favorite hobby, but I am not old enough to do that in Real Life. Planning to study something economical at the University later, because making money in economy is something I love. And GW has a wonderful, free economy, where you can try things that you can't do that way in Real Life.

The most expensive itens ***ARE NOT*** the most good looking itens.
Shield of the Wing IS BY FAR the most good looking shield in the whole game and it costs 5,000 gold at the crafter at Central Transfer Chamber.
Some people just like to say "my gear is more expensive than yours", doesnt really cares about looking good or having a good and balanced equipment.

Most people that i asked told me that they farm a lot to complete their HOM. I am wondering about the rewards in GW2 for completing HOM, are they really worth it..

Well...a couple interesting experiences that are relevant here:
1) I was in a PuG for Gate of Madness where a warrior with obsidian armor and an obby edge used meteor shower...then called me a noob for asking him to try and hold aggro while the 2 ele's in the group did their thing.
2) I was in an FoW run where the monk with black labyrinthine (sp?) armor was casting Empathy on Shadow Beasts >.>
3) I was laughed at by a Necro in Vabbian armor and one of those bone dragon staff things for using N/Rt healers, because apparently "secondaries are useless! And rits are gimp healers!"
I guess what I'm trying to say is...just because someone makes money doesnt mean they arent retarded.

From this interview, I infer that the unique items will not be better than anything someone who didn't play GW1 can get. They will most likely be things with a unique appearance that don't have any real advantage. Unless you are the type of player who likes to buy the most expensive items and dye them black or grind all the titles just because you want status or the ability to show off in a video game it's not worth the time.

No one should feel bad for not having the plat/ectos to buy everything they could ever dream of in the game. Those focused hard core on farming or trading can make lots of plat, but as mentioned above, that is not exactly the most exciting prospect (at least for the majority of us).
If the in-game trading process was set up better, I think the distribution of wealth would be a little more balanced. Using an in-game auction house (or some method that did not require either spamming in Kamadan for hours on end or individually listing every item on an auction site and then spending an insane amount of time trying to meet up with the people who won your auctions) would make the trading process FAR easier. If the trading process were easier, I believe that profits would be more balanced and there would be less likelihood of someone getting ripped off. If fewer players were making really bad trades, those looking to exploit noobs would not be able to make ungodly amounts of cash quite as easily (at least not through the trading process). And, if there were less mega rich in the game, it seems to me that the prices of these uber rare items would be forced down to a more reasonable level (at least not even close to the insane 4000e). But, alas, with GW2 development getting all the attention, it seems exceptionally unlikely we will see any modification to the way we trade.

I"ve been around in this game for almost 3 years now. Sometimes played alot (when new campaigns or content were brought out) and even didn't play for a couple of months. Then just thought why not log in once again.
Fact is I remember that when there was only prophecies, the richest people where the runners then the farmers.
During that period if you wanted a good weapon you had to pay alot or farm it yourself (no inscriptions existed).
So basicly I heared from someone ingame about a farm, watched him do it once and tried myself. I got hooked to farming (I hardly ever do any pvp), pve is completing the game on a char that's it. For the rest I farm when I can play. Not that I want alot of gold, just cause I enjoy the game, the gold is a nice extra.
But as a diehard farmer (if online don't do anything else most of the time), I can say the only people who can accumulate 4000e are the former runners from prophecies and the power traders that's it. Unless you are one of the lucky people with a minireward.
But to everyone his own way of enjoying the game. I for instance like the thrill and curiosity of getting drops, id'ing them and then if I don't like them getting rid of them. Powertraders really benefit from me, I tend to buy items I want for more then they are worth. The items I sell are sold for alot less then they are worth, just because I don't like to spam wts during my playtime.
If you enjoy the game playing with regular armor and items it's your right. Wealth has got nothing to do with skill.
I'm sure a poor player can kill me in a scrimmage, his items might be worth 50 times less then mine but it doesn't matter at all. It's just looks.
And as i've read in this thread beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm a swordcollector and I find almost every swordskin prettier then the tormented sword. Yet the last one is more expensive then the common skins.

@ Tode and Serenity:
Exactly, the skills i learn from the GW economy directly relate to that of my stocks i have invested, with the same concepts behind them. If you can make strategic economic decisions, it doesn't matter where you make them, you have still learned the skills behind them!
Some people say that people with cash are dupers / losers, possibly we are just better at the game than you? I play sports, and am doing fairly well ingame, sure i don't have 4000e, but it would be silly to call my self poor. If a 16 yr old average kid can accumulate hundreds of ecto / zkeys, why not anybody else? I've juggled school, p/t work, afterschool sports, and hanging out with my friends. Maybe thats why i'm limited to "hundreds", and not "thousands" of ecto.
Cash is easy to get ingame, you just have to be good at it.

Say they have no life, and your e-peen will get a huge erection.
The items are fake, the vast quantity of richness are all pixels, the cake is a lie. You're getting jealous over nothing in my opinion.

Exactly! I've always wondered why GW doesn't have an auction-house system. That would do wonders for liquidity and would stabilize prices. It would also save players loads of time that they now spend just farting around in Kam.
I can't imagine they're going to do it though.

why is it all about money?
Eazy Duz It
I find it funny how everyone automatically goes to duping when it comes to large sums of money...People do work for there money either powerselling or farming forever. Mostly youll see the powersellers are on the higher end. Now that ursan is nerfed the nonstop UW speedway clears are at an end so youll be seeing alot more wealth coming from powerselling than anything else
Thizzle
If you took advantage of what the old school 55 monk could do, armbrace dupe, and many other farming builds than yes it's easily possible to have stacks and stacks of ectoplasm. Now there's plenty of players who are just plain lucky and got a perfect req. 7 crystalline sword before the inscription system was introduced. Those were nearly priceless even today you can get a pretty penny for them. The ones who PvP now definitely rack in the most bucks. If you a mini ghostly drops out of a chest there's about 2000e right there. 2000e is 26 pairs of chaos gloves. There's been so many chances to get extremely rich in this game, you just had to be around and take that chance. To put it short... yes, you can be that rich.
glacialphoenix
Yes, you can be that rich.
But what does it matter, if you're not that fantastic a player?

Powerselling and getting lucky. That's what I did. Until my friend told me to bail on the economy and have fun playing until GW2. Since then I haven't been able to keep 10k in my storage =D

For those who just compared Guild Wars to real life, you've just hit an ultimate low. If you think Guild wars or even any other game is like or will be like real life, you're in for a BIG suprise.
