Did you like Eye of The North?
Darkobra
It was such a disappointment, I'd get a refund for it if I could.
MisterT69
I liked it. I think it was definitely worth the $10 USD I paid for it and I have no regrets about buying it. It was fun from the moment I bought it.

The dungeons are a big disappointment. The loot is meh-ish and combined with loot-scaling is even less rewarding. You'd be better off farming on your own, because that way you get more money than on a dungeon trip. These things lead me and my friends to retirement from GW. And we're not talking about boredom here. The way the game currently works is just not right and it's putting me off. How I miss the days of Prophecies, when there were no things such as grind and time > skill. If Anet wants GW2 to be a successful game, then they need to get back to the roots of Prophecies. |

Yes, I liked it.

As title says.
My favorite campaign/expansions is Proph and EotN here is why.
Proph:
The game was long, it did take a long time to play through. I liked how it emersed you in the story and quests. YOU are the story. I like that I was not level 20 in 3 days. I like that it took forever to get a coveted "perfect" weapon drop and in max armor. There was only 1 "god" build and it only worked in certain areas. The graphics and armors were also great. The tutorial area was seperated from the rest of the game by a 1 way "event". Tutorial area is so nice that some people NEVER leave. Salvageing was a risk. Skills were learned through quests more so than from trainers. You were not "ascended" for most of the story and needed to prove your worth.
The start of the "bad"
Factions:
Game was short, the main city was a slum. It was geared for "the casual player" level 20 or near it before getting of noob island. Max armor right off noob island. The "war" between the kurz/lux is a joke. Most were hoping for a mass combat style area w/ 50+ on a side. The Graphics were horrible: slums, a "sea" of blue green jade, the best place is the forest areas and they are dark and so,so. Noob island was very nice, I really enjoyed that area. The story was less about you and your journy and more about NPC's. Intro to perfect end game weapons. By far, in my opinon, the worst expantion.
Nightfall:
Intro of inscriptions. Personnally I hate them, they take all the perfect drop out of a perfect drop. The intro of heroes. I like heroes. At this point the community was really starting to wear thin. They incorporate heroes to fill the void. Not to mention PUGs were very irritating by this point and have not gotten any better. Unfortunatly, the story line had nothing to do with you and was all about heroes or Kormir, that you never felt a connection to. Graphics were better than factions but not by much. I really liked the "nightmare" lands. Main city only allows you to have 4 people in party and is on noob island. Get max armor before getting off noob island. I also liked the Margonites but think they should have been any color other than purple/pink. The "elite" area was hard, end boss near unbeatable unless you glitched it or were with a awsome team. I also liked that the elite areas took a few hours to do.
EotN:
More heroes, this time you felt connected with. Excellect graphics all around. A good story line. You are back in the spot light w/ your heros. Intro of dungeons, Great Idea, fell very short. I was hoping for that "dungeon crawl" feel which it severly lacks, some areas are clones of another. The HoM great Idea, but peoples expectations were very over the top, which led to disappointment.
It was for level 20's only and should be reverted back to this state. The greatest horror to be introed into the game is UB. I like how they also incorporated the dragons/gw2 story into this area/cinimatics.
Over all, I like areas/armors/weapons/ basically anything that is locked, or you need to do somthing to gain entrance/ get it. It means more to you when you do. I also liked the BMP. I do not like consumables in any way except for "in town" only items. They destroyed hard mode/ elite areas. It is supposed to be HARD. Why give us Hard mode, just to take it away/ make it easy. I also like how skills are tied to titles. I wish all skills were this way that they would get stronger as you slowly gained rank/used them, on top of your atribute points. (Maybe not for pvp, lol.)
I am a pve player and seldom pvp. Perhaps the system in gw2 will be more to my liking for pvp as it sounds fun.
If you could not tell, this is ENTIRLY my opinon. As such, I am entitled to it. I also tried to not include spoilers. Soz, for wall o text.

I so surprissed how the guru community is so....so...stupid and STUBBORN omg...so...so...so...STUBBORN, like children they let their emotions get the better of them over a bloody game, yes that is right, a game, not life support, you didn't pay for life support and they turned the power off, you payed for a game...a game... and not very expensive one at that.
"Oh no I need to max every single gwen title," actually no, you don't need to max every single gwen title, maybe only ursan and that is if you find it really difficult to find a non ursan pug and even then you only relly need r7. Ofcourse I find ursan annoying but you really can't expect Anet to make a perfect game. Another stupid thing that pissed me of was that players got annoyed that they had to earn elite armour, and not it is not the fact you had to grind, because both you and I both know that there wasn't that much grind to get to r5 r10 is a bit of a joke but r5 is fine. Dungeon are fun, the reward factor is quite bad i agree, but the dungeons alow you to interact with enviroment much more than in the other campaigns and in some dungeons you have to take a different approach to killing your enemies. The Missions in GWEN are short and fun, (The only time I think there should ever be a long mission is if it is an elite mission, no mission should be longer than half an hour) I love the Ebon Vanguard missions, you interact with the eviroment so much more than usual with blowing stuff up and mounting siege devouers and i love the fact that you kill stuff you get stronger like in other rpgs like the ones in get in your playstation.
If you get bored of repetively doing the same stuff don't do it.
I am going to use a annalergy on what Gorge Lucas said about Star Wars E3, (even though I hate him and every starwars that wasn't 4 and 5) if he gave the film the fans wanted it would be darth Vader walking around and killing everybody and it would be shit, the same way if Anet gave the game the Guru community wanted it would be just prophecies all over again and we would loose interest, anbd it would be shit and unorignal, and only leet players would be playing and Anet would be making no money at all becaue it would be game with a smalll community who are very rich and very skilled but very small because all the people who aren't that great would give up because they can't cope.
GWEN was actually a breathe of fresh air because it was actually difffent from the other campaigns, it had someith ing new to offer.

I enjoyed it, I think the story and the mission layout were done far better than in the other campaigns, although the game was very clearly rushed, and I didn't like the idea of having to grind to get the armour.

i'm getting tired about ursan QQ.
when doa was released i would come on here and all i would read was QQ that wahhhh i dont have time to play the game for 18 hours to be able to to do doa, make it easier for everyone anet you assholes this game shouldn't be about the few elite players who have no lives.
ursan gets released i come on here and all i read is QQ that wahhhh you made everything too easy anet you assholes. now i can do anything i want easily! how dare you bastards gives us exactly what we wanted a few months ago in a way that if we really dont want to use it and have a challenge we can go ahead and do that, but still make it so that those who want to casually do high end areas can too! assholes!
i hate you gw community, i hate you.
and yes i liked EoTN. storyline was more fluid and didn't seem forced like nightfall. i liked the whole 3 different story chain idea, a little more flexibility in how you want to play the game. i like the dungeons, gives you something to come back to after the game is over. good ideas, maybe not the best execution but w/e it lays down the foundation pretty well for what they want to do with gw2.

But the thing is

Nf just sucks in my opinion, Eotn too grindy and all those PvE skills etc are worse in my opinion..
So i didnt like EotN, but still it was better then Nf.

Things I liked:
-Most of the armor was pretty nice
-The landscape was beautiful
-The IDEA of adding dungeons was nice
-PvE skills are pretty fun
-A lot of nice weapon skins
-Good storyline
-Good cut-scenes
Things I didn't like:
-Every dungeon looked exactly the same
-Reskins
Note: If people spent as much time working on titles as they spent BAWWWWWWWing about them, everyone would be a god walking among mere mortals by now. We know you don't like them. You don't need to tell us anymore.
If you want the titles:
1. Shut up
2. Grind
3. Win
If you don't want the titles:
1. Keep playing the game the way you want to
2. Win
If you want the titles but are too damn lazy to get them:
1. Whine about it on GWguru
2. Open GW
3. Whine about it in Spamadan
4. ????
5. PROFIT!!!

You know what is funny in the first weeks of Eye of th North i have been a loudmouth bookah about the game the dislikes about it and what i like.

It had the potential to be amazing and failed in every respect.
No real content
Crappy story
Reskinned armor
Crap high-end weapons
Superlative title grind
Graphical bugs all over the place
Terrible power creep
To be honest, I sort of equate EotN with the final Star Wars (III) production-wise. Tried to go back to its roots, but in the end, cheapened everything that was great, and the overall production was simply appallingly mediocre.

Yes I did like it and I still do like it. I didnt have any preconceived notions of "how it should and must be" going into it so maybe that is why I still enjoy playing. I maxxed the titles on my main and so far have been able to get at least one armor set for 3 other characters. It is an enjoyable distraction so well worth my money to me.

I liked:
the new armor - but not needing to grind rank for it
Jora! Livia!! Gwen! & extra heroes
some of the new skills (and tehre are some that you wonder why they weren't in the game before)
but, there are a lot of imba things in the game, and that has hurt all the campaigns overall sincce those imba skills can be used by everyone everywhere (except PvP - which I don't do so far)
cool regions and things to see
but overall - could have done without it. (Glad I bought it on sale, ~$17 US)

Yes I like the way the mission quests were I didn't like the solo quests that much.
I don't like that fact that you have to be certian rank in oder to get armour and anything else aswell as having to many of thme 2 would of been fine like NF.Over all it isn't a bad addon for the scenery especially North of Ascalon.

I liked the Norn armor for my ranger and mesmer. The areas were pretty, and the storyline was a nice bridge.
I didn't like everything else. Rep grind, Ursan, level 10s popping into EotN and getting max armor....yeah, all that stuff.
If I want dungeons I'll play Diablo 2.

I liked playing through the story, but the grind and stuff pretty much ruined the game for me.

honestly the people who really want a challenge are the peopel who are in the builds section of the forum, in the different subforums for the different campaigns, helping people and figuring out new ways of doing things. i never saw Witte posting QQ threads about ursan or doa, i saw him making solo builds for every place in the campaign, finding challenges.

No, it was good for about 30 minutes and then it sucked. It's the same thing over and over. Go do that, kill a couple things, bam done. No uses of tactics or having to actually use your head. When Ursan was discovered to be the absolute godly PvE skill, everything went downhill.

yes, i liked it.
personally i prefer the free roaming system of Prophecies, but aside from that, it was fine.

Though it's difficult to compare a full campaign to an expansion, I definitely enjoyed GWEN much more than Factions. I like how you can pick and choose the order in which to proceed through the game; you're free to obtain PvE skills and titles without having to venture through its entirety. Because of this, I never feel pressure to finish the game as a whole.
Dungeons and mini-games offer variety to the game, though some of them could have been produced a bit better. Recycling certain dungeon pieces would have been fine if they just touched the repeats up a bit. I also enjoy PvE skills as they offer new strategies to some of my favorite builds. I realize that grind is a problem for some, but coming into GW fresh out of DAoC helped soften the blow.
Story wise, my opinions are somewhat moot. Guild Wars' storyline has never been that great, though it could have been worse. I will give them points, however, for placing some dragons and other GW2 content among the scenery; this type of subversion is very refreshing.
On the other hand, I hate the Asuran lands (my 1st encounter with Mobrin still haunts me to this day), Polymock, DD PuGs, Ursan Blessing and the lvl 10 requirement (I'll not delve deeper into the latter two because they have been sent to Hell and back more times than a Meatloaf album).
Also, I felt that many of the PvE skill quests were incredibly lopsided. Ursan Blessing's quest is pretty much just a pre-Searing apple bunch rehash, which takes no effort whatsoever. Ebon Vanguard Assassin is also one of the more powerful skills, yet it is obtainable right after starting the expansion. Other skill quests (Feel No Pain and Club of a Thousand Bears come to mind) require much more time and skill, yet their rewards are dismal at best.
All in all, I enjoy GWEN and spend most of my time there. I'd probably have to give it a 7/10. If Anet had spent just a few more months, I feel like it would have been a much more enjoyable product. Oh, and what's with the release date, anyways? Late August is just an odd time for any game to come out.
Actually, this makes it an 8.

Liked....
-scenery is absolutely gorgeous, particularly tarnished coast and the presearing feel of the charr lands.
-introduction of dungeons.
-concept of HoM.
-introduction of baddies that take little or no damage from fire and earth, thus forcing eles to look at water and air builds.
-multi-prof skillbars for the baddies.
-the storyline was ok I guess, and I liked how some of the loose ends from previous chapters were tied up.
Disliked....
-the grind of rep titles for multiple characters. Rep titles for EotN should be account based.
-allowing characters less than lvl 20 into EotN.
-repetitive use of the same scenic elements in dungeons. When you have a dungeon that uses an exact copy of three levels of other dungeons, it's clear that the dungeon design was rushed.
-most of the armours available were reskins. Again, it suggests that it was rushed.
-the HoM, again, was rushed...poor design, in that you can't choose which elements to display, you can't display dwarven armour, the heroes are displayed in their starter armour even though you have to upgrade their armour to be able to put them into the HoM, you can only display destroyer weapons, and the armours don't display as the correct colour. Fingers crossed for the upcoming HoM update....
-introduction of UB to remove prof discrimination, thus introducing a replacement discrimination...

-introduction of UB to remove prof discrimination, thus introducing a replacement discrimination...

I really really enjoyed eotn. New areas were awesome, dungeons add another aspect to the game, and it occupied me for a coupla months
All for $50 too

hell no.
eotn was supposed to be a high end area exclusive for lvl 20 chars.
in reality-
NOTHING of eotn is actually hard. Even though some dungeons are tricky on HM, they are impossible to fail (res shrines, constant morale boosts, you don't even need to keep a npc alive) and consubmeables make them a joke.

The expansion was really beautiful. And the dungeons are pretty creative. But I don't like grinding title points.

I love the scenery, storyline, lore, and dungeons.

personally I didnt buy EotN and I dont regret it.
the things EotN really added to the game:
Glyph of Swiftness- perma SF, Sliver, etc
HC Monk- thx to the Spotless skills :\
overpowered PvE skills- Technobobble(sp), Pain Inverter, etc come to mind
overpowered PvE elite skills- well, Ursan...
easy survivor title(dwarven boxing)
grind, grind and more grind...
reskinned armor, golds, greens
HoM- if you want to keep any of your GW1 things in GW2 you must buy EotN to get access to HoM, I mean WTF?!?!?!
so to sum it up:
a lot of grind
a lot of reskinned crap
PvE easy mode(Ursan and to some extent other PvE only skills)
a few interesting skills(volley, sloth hunter's, etc)
HoM
now, I dont know about the rest of you but personally I'm not going to buy GW2. the main reason for that is: EotN!
first of all ANet degraded so much in this campaign, the 3 others were well thought out and interesting, EotN clearly is neither...
and the whole HoM is really furiating me! I have all the other campaigns, if I was to buy GW2 why am I to be punished for not buying EotN as well? this is clearly a cheap marketting gimmick from ANet's side, and it did make a lot of people to buy EotN and perhaps GW2 but it also made people like me who wont buy GW2 because of it.

I love EotN. The scenery is breath taking, the game play is very fun, and I think the storyline was probably one of the best in the series.
However the thing that I ABSOLUTELY hate about it is that it introduced the idea of having to grind for pretty much everything.

I though EoTN was hugely enjoyable although not quite as good or fun as a full camapign.

A lot better than Nightfall.
It was pretty, humorous, and I enjoyed mapping it and seeing interesting things such as Fenrir and the Stone Summit camp at Drakkar's that I never knew existed. And without Kilroy's dungeon, I'd never get 10,000 chests opened. 2,012 so far, w00t w00t.
And as Snograt said, I'm also a "title prostitute."

The dungeons were a nice addition, in my opinion--like having 18 little versions of Sorrow's Furnace or the Deep all over the place. They seemed well-considered, at first...until I realized they were alllllllllllllllllllllllll the same.
Had we gotten something like 18 distinct dungeons, instead of a small number of "shells" divided up in various ways, I, and probably many others, would have been even happier.
As it is, I'm not complaining much. A lovely gold reward, the chance for some nice drops, and some interesting problems to "plan" for...(I use "plan" loosely...usually it's the boss that needs the plan; the rest is cake...): A nice little premise.
The explorable areas: generally well done, even interesting. Not a fan of dinosuars, though. Seems like that particular move strained credulity more than dragons, more than the whole storyline. Loved the landscapes and the art, though.
The "grind:" I was pretty indifferent. To get armor required R5 in something...which was earned through one hero book, one or two vanquishes in HM, and some random side quests. Hardly a grind to me--it was just playing the game. Now, PAST that...the steps from 8 to 10 in a rank...well, that interests me less. I'll do the HM books, and vanquish, but if that doesn't do it...I'm calling it a day, I think. I still haven't bothered maxing any of those titles, and I'm still having a bit of fun...for a game that's still free to play.
So yeah, I liked it.
