Just imagine that the thousands+ of active posters go to the wiki tomorrow and start posting. It's going to be a BIG mess, no one will be able to read it, it's unreadable. And as I said before, I'm not even sure it's manageable. GWG has been here for years and its team has a lot of XP in dealing with this stuff, they've got paying subscribers, great search tools, polls, organised forums, even an automated auction website!
Anet would close pages on the wiki if the level of discussion was the same as on GWG. They've supported it as elite fansites (as well as GWO and 5 or 6 others), PlayNC support even refer people to these forums and not the wikis! And now suddenly, without a word (let's not try to find hidden explanations of why
Gaile left and why
Regina was chosen), it's changed?

And, while they bicker amongst themselves, the real work---collaboration between developers and players to improve the game---goes on on-wiki.

Real work? On GW1? Look at GWG and you'll have a MUCH better map of what has to be done. Would Sardelac be possible on the wiki? (yes it's got a lot of crap, but as
Bryant Again clearly explained, a good CR/CM whatever you call it should know where to look and what to ignore) I bet there are 100 times more people reading and writing on GWG than on the wiki.
I'm not denying that good, nice work can be done thanks to the wiki, but I think it's due to the fact that so few people really "interact". A lot of concerns cannot be realistically seen in the wiki, look at PvP people for example. Or last week-end's lag/error disaster during HB week-end+mATs. (on the other hand, I'd like GWG's moderation to be a bit tougher and remove trolls, off-topics, insults etc. this would make GWG much more enjoyable, except for the people trolling and insulting) It's just not appropriate for these things. It's the best tool for helping a community organise KNOWLEDGE, but not good for all these things that REQUIRE general discussion (not even good IMHO for a blog but I won't bother them with that).
