I'm so sick of this. I'm 18, I have a right to free speech. I can say RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO if I want, I can say shit if I want. Why on earth can I get reported, and get banned for swearing? There is a word filter in place for people who dislike it, and you can turn off chat if It really bothers you. Sure, I don't agree with using racism and stuff but if someone is saying stuff like that there are so many ways around it. Got two people paying 500g for a 2 plat CoF run before because of my swearing. I said RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO when I died once because someone lured out spiders and got us a party wipe. And I can't do anything about it, because if they report me I'm going to get a 3 day ban or a week ban.
This kind of situation is rare, but seriously people need to either grow up a little or just not take a fantasy game so seriously.
Edit: Lol I think you can guess what that wordfiltered word is, I think thats fine but why cant people on GW wordfilter too?

Sounds more like a rant to me, but I agree with the chat filters; they can be enabled. But, one has to remember that there are 13+ year-olds playing the game, too. But, then again, the chat filters need to be enabled on them as well.
As for removing the "report for language" suggestion, I don't agree with that because people still "post" racist comments, and that, to me, isn't right. Also, if people are excessive (for example, they keep dropping the f-bomb for no reason), it's not right, either. Yes, the chat filters can be enabled, but if all the person is saying "--- you you ----ing ----tard" every other line, you kind of wonder...

I don't think the function of reporting for language is to weed out trivial things like the usage of 'fvck' or 'shit.' I have no problem with people who frequently drop f-bomb in chat and so far, my liberal use of such expressions hasn't resulted in anything.

I think "bad language" has less to do with what words are used and more to do with how they are used. I can pointlessly tear someone apart without calling them a motherfcuker, etc., and that is ethically more incorrect than just using curse words in conversation.
If anyone is offended by the simple use of what has been decided by society to be curse words, then hopefully they will be smart enough to use the chat filter and shut up.

I don't know about the entire free speech argument. I don't think they should remove the reporting for language option per se, but change it. I've been known to say things like damn or shit occasionally and I've been waiting for my ban from anet, since they've been kinda anal lately. (Lol my brain just totally fried in the middle of this post, so I'll probably come and edit it again later.

Pretty sure they only ban you for insulting or saying something offensive (racist words, etc). I don't think they ban for just saying the f word, there's a filter for a reason.
If they do ban for swearing without directing it anyone or being offensive, they should stop, because it makes the report option false, and the language filter pointless.

Regardless of whether you have the right of free speech in a video game... I'd rather ANet spend their time reading over reports for leeching, botting, etc. The language filters are there for those who want them, and there is no reason for reporting language. If someone wants to be racist and you're offended, just ignore them and don't pick a fight.

So yeah, either Anet needs to look at it more carefully (dont think they can considering far more important stuff) or It needs to be removed or something. The Idea of it is cool, but It doesn't translate well into the hands of 11 year olds who shouldn't really be playing the game anyway.
Also, about the EULA thing, seriously come on. You expect to play a game where no one swears at all? I don't agree with racist comments, nor just spamming swears and stuff but stuff can slip out and it shouldn't be bannable just because they want to have their chat filter off. Why turn it off if you get offended that easily?

Verbal abuse as was mentioned above you ****ing dumb***, not swearing ****face. For example, there were some Ukrainian people on the American server shouting something in another language, and I said "annoying Ukrainians." They then spammed me for 3 minutes saying, well I am not 100% sure, but it had the word DIE in it. That is abuse, and something which absolutely was the purpose of the report feature.

I totally agree with Chocobo1. When you first install gw the chat filter is on by default, and only people who are not offended by such language that is hidden by the chat filter should be turning it off. Most of the time there are peope who abuse the /report feature and are not actually offended just mad and they have no other way to retalliate but to stoop as low as to report people. If you are offended by some one you dont know over the internet then maybe you should turn off all your chats. If some one who can very well live 1000 miles away from you can offend you with words then you should just shout "WORDS HURT ASSHOLE" and turn off you game. Things people should be reported for are like botting and leeching etc. There are alot of ways to protect yourself from being offended over a video game, turn off chats put on your filter, or even grow a pair...

Regarding the OP, look a little closer at your choices for reporting. You can report someone for "abusive language," not for vulgar language. I'm sure your potty mouth is getting you reported, but those people are stuffing round pegs into a square hole.

So the square peg is actually going into a square hole.
The simple fact is that foul language will get you a slap on the wrist. Live with that or simply spend a lot of time temp banned.
