Is it possible to be in/famous in this game?
Sir Green Aluminum
Yeah, I mean like talk of the town in shout famous maybe like someone brings up your name and it starts an hour long conversation.
And for the infamous part, what's the worse you can do to a scammer? Add him to your friend/ignore list and shout out in town that he scammed you? Or can you actually get banned for scamming?

Nope, there's no GW player that's really famous. You can't get famous because of items, since they're way too limited anyway, and by just being in a good guild or owning in PvP you won't get famous either.
chippxero
some guilds are well known but i can't say people really talk about a single players for a long time as it's such a team game.

I'm with Burakus... I played for over 1,000 hours since release and I couldn't name a guild if you put a gun to my head. I'd probably mumble something along the lines of: [cool noun] of [cool noun] and hope you bought the bluff.

plus GW doesnt ban
Charqus
I'd say there is one player regarded as famous on GW: Power Of My Rangers.
This is only cos he often had HoH for europe or america and you recognise it when it says Power of my rangers team has won a battle blavlabla

Lulu's teams used to hold halls for insane stretches of time.

The game has millions (or at least hundreds of thousands) of players. People like to think they are, and forums only cater to a small fraction of the overall playerbase, so no. Quite a lot (ingame who don't spend time on forums) probably don't even know who Gaile Gray is let alone anyone else.

I'm sure there are a few folks who *think* they are something special.
Legends in their own mind.
But no, GW is too big to have so called online celebrities. In some game communities some players will rise to the top (Fatal1ty, etc) if the game celebrates individual accomplishments, but GW is too team based.

Symeon
There is someone on the European servers (won't name for forum reasons), who seems to have become quite well known. In the international districts at Christmas she and her friend gave away loads of 'gifts' for free...rubbish ones, like flowers and stuff, but loads of people crowded around hoping for something. She also talks as if she's immitating Gaile Gray/Frog in her kind of official, correct writing, and keeps saying she's the queen and other roleplaying-style stuff. She has become famous for really no reason because a load of dumb people think she's official/special.

<-- famous

but speaking of Gaile Gray/Frog, there's somebody famous, but of course the only approach in that direction is to gather a good resume and submitting it to Arenanet or PlayNC Co.

Power Of My Rangers? Never heard of him. Never saw the name Lulu in game either, and I do read the HOH lines quite alot. There are famous people in WOW though, but that's because every server has it's players that have everything, and are simply the best of the server, though, GW doesn't work with servers (which I love), so it's harder to get famous.

Power of My Rangers along with pRp/Lara Valor is known among PvPers (corrected line)
So is LuLu and Kuntz of Treacherous Empire (elite American guild). If I am not mistaken they invented IWAY (as joke build).
PvE players are NOT famous, maybe Lady Blue Steele is the exception. But you don't get famous for beating Thunderhead with 8 of your friends, especially if some of them are henchies.
PvP community tracks players just because that is the point of it. If you PvP you end up getting familiar with guilds and players, like iQ, Sarus, Kuntz, LuLu, Te, TT, Uni, etc. PvP is a lot more social and interactive with people.
Of course everyone has a different measurement what makes up "famous." Nevertheless, there are enough people who will consider those I have previously listed as "famous."

I would say the only people that are really famous are Anet reps like the Frog and Gaile
The undead Mesmer

I dont think there are any famous players who are talked about in towns only some pvpers who are famous amongst other pvpers

Thank you. Corrected.
PvPers are not talked about in town because most people in town are PvE-ers.

Easiest way to become "famous" in the game is get a character to level 20 in presearing. You will be swarmed with people asking how you did it.
sun is in us
There is no OG (the runner) in this game yet......
I wonder if any DT veterans will remember......

lets see who comes to mind
Empty Skillbars, iQ, Power of my Rangers those are some famous guilds i think.
This is kinda backwards because i cant remember his name but there is the guy who had the first icy dragon sword. His name was in the guild wars update website.
Plus all the guilds that have pre-made pvp bulids after them.

Just to put things in perspective in terms of 'fame,' I'm relatively new to hanging about the forums, but I've been playing GW since June.
And I recall only the name "Power of my Rangers" and thought it was a guild with a really silly name (which is only the reason I remember it at all).
So, ah, I'd wager that most of the non-forum junkies would be with me in saying that none of these people are actually famous per se... just the role models of a select few.
