Is it possible to be in/famous in this game?

There are famous people in this game for sure. My test is: I have heard a lot about someone, but never seen that person. And I mention her or him and other people know who I am talking about. That is being famous to some degree.

Probably 90% of the game's population don't read forums (or maybe only their own guild's forum) or aren't interested in things like the pvp metagame and new builds. So these players will probably not know any player outside of their own circle. GW doesn't have a GW gazette in the game, so it is not easy for fame to spread beyond the hardcore players.

Famous players I can think of:

Lulu
Lulu is probably most famous (or infamous):
- For doing that lvl 3 ascension thing (people screaming "cheater!")
- For being the first or one of the first people running a good minion factory build (with other people posting screenshots and going "cheater, hacker, nerf!") and later for posting a video about it (or having a friend do that).
- For (perhaps) inventing IWAY. (the ultimate crime )
- For being in a very well done FoC build video.
- For being in a nice flareway video.
- For supposedly joining guilds and 'stealing their builds'.
- For having other people posing as her/him on this and other forums, having people claim they are a friend of her/him, other people then saying that the first person is talking nonsense (as they themselves are personal friends, etc.), people saying Lulu has done this or that wicked deed, others saying she/he could not have done it as he/she does not play pve, etc.

If someone like that is not famous, no one is. Ask a hardcore pvp player, and there is a good chance he will have heard of her (or him). I don't know if Lulu is a girl or a guy, though. Maybe it is a couple sharing an account.

These are fairly well known players, maybe famous:

Kuntz
Kuntz is a friend of Lulu I think. I could be wrong, but I think he may have made some of these video's.

God Antipowers
Well, the reason may be a bit silly (if you level up to 20 in pre-searing you obviously don't mind repetition), but he/she has been talked about in and outside of the game a lot.

Power of my Rangers
Well known European server ranger spiker. I had talked a bit to this player, not knowing that he was famous, though his name rang a bell at the time. He did appear somewhat smug, but I guess he has some right to behave like that. Otherwise he was fine, though.

Chris Nin00
I think he is the one who came up with flareway originally, but I could be wrong. Famous on this forum certainly.

Kago Seirei
Obviously well known, but I have no idea what for.

But except for Lulu (who is more famous than her/his guild), it is guilds that get the real fame. And the fame of guilds (and maybe their top players) will spread because of observer mode and events like the world championship more, I am guessing.

Maybe the devs will add an ingame gazette sometime, with pvp coverage. That would be fun. I am sure that silly players like me would be happy to write for that for free. Not that a nice salary of 3 gold per word would be bad.

I actually had someone tell me I was talking like an NPC while I was trying to RP in LA one evening. I understand WHY we get flak - and this Dark Queen whoever seems to have put a slightly bitter twist on the idea - but some people could just let us enjoy ourselves.

For sitting in Grotto for hours.. apon hours... however that was quite some time ago. Last time I went there I did not see one person from his guild there.... Heh, I thought I was the only one who remembered him

That's because Kago deserves credit. Often seems to say things that make sense to me, I respect that. First met him on my mesmer, used to make loads of riverdances in Grotto. Those were sorta fun...

I know some 1 that is realy famous she is a realy good friend and help me out sometimes but some times she is as stupid as her sister, she is called Alesia

Power Of My Rangers is the only thing i can think of, although there are several inter guild people who have a certain thing about them (such as jhadur in our guild who has far too much money)

I've been recognized through the forums a few times, but nothing to qualify

Dropping LBS's name seems to garner some conversation among people though.

Sai should be somewhat famous, for his 1337 afking skills, if Kago is for his. And for the fact that he never says much and is fun to stalk.

Sure, a guild can be well-known for a while, but that's it.
But not a player.

i thinkfindariel is rite. only guilds can be famous. cause it takes a team to win in a guild battle. guilds taht pop to mind are MATH and idiot savants. they are both great guilds that are good so people know them.

I should be famous for falling asleep while running my friend, and he for not realizing until about 45 minutes later....

The only names I ever have rememered are: LBS.. and Hello Apollo.

I can only name one person, and I don't think he or she was famous... I just kept running into this person while I was ascending, and it was a funny name, so it stuck. Not to mention he/she was playing with the same classes I was. It was "Holy Crap Lions." Don't know why that stuck, but he/she was a fairly decent mesmer in PvE.... don't really think that's famous though....

Like in real life fame comes and goes. I wouldn't go as far as saying someone is 'famous' in GW but certain players are definitly more wellknown then others. The numbers of players that have ever heared my name will definitly be smaller then the numbers of players recognising LuLu's or Power's name. Some people have put themselves on the map and whether that fame is earned or not is basically an irrelevant question. A lot of the people mentioned here have been wellknown for quite a while and most of them surpass the fame of guilds. It's all relative off coure, but surely there's a difference in fame.

Well, like someone said, you win halls enough times for a logn while and people start getting to know your name, as mentioned specifically, Power. Cos he held fo ages and often and was finally getting favour for euro a lot. he was mainly winning when i still used to pve a lot.

I've been told I suck, am a Nazi mod, that GwG is terrible, and other things in the same vein before, but on the other hand I got a 15>50 max brute sword just for standing in Beacon's Perch once.
