Is it possible to be in/famous in this game?
6 pages • Page 4
Most of these people are famous on forums. People who read up on sites such as this know about Lulu, Lady Blue, Nef, Power (well, he does hold halls a lot so he might be an exception since so many people read those global messages), and Kago.
The "casual" gamer doesn't really know these people.

I'd say Kago is famous, but Power? Famous?
Nah.
What about Divine (ISellSigils)? LuLu, yes (and LuLu is a he, ok?)
With the advent of observer mode, the team gameplay and an individual's part in a team will make people more famous. Furthermore, GW has a lot to go in the development of PvP guilds. It's only been 8 months, and I think we'll be seeing the equivalent of, say, those sponsored CS clans like Team 3D that will make people more famous.
And there is "PvP-famous" and "PvE famous." I could name a huge list of PvPers who are famous/well known in PvP circles (like Kuntz for his work on GStats, or Ensign for his affinity for number crunching). And I barely know Kago, but a friend who hangs in Grotto 24/7 does.
Oh, and how could I forget Lara Valor?

I played with him. also in some of these tomb runs. and people would literally drop from their guild just so LuLu's name would show up as the team. and he would play with "Lulu the monk" no matter if he was actually healing or not. or doing some other monking. (it was veery easy to be a healer back then. every team who had the slightest clue would target LuLu instantly. just drop some prot spells on him.)
anyway. the gwguru forum addicts (as you so kindly name them) are well over 250. and they are not the only ones who know about Lulu. trust me on that. i have met so many people talking about him ingame. more than 250. and i don't know how many on this site i have met.. but anyway. theres more than 250 who will instantly recognise the nickname "Lulu The Monk" i would guess closer to 25.000

he unlocked the game that way. i doubt he even has PvE characters now
Of that list I never heard of any of them, until I started on this forum. Ask yourselves the same, had you not come to a forum would you have known anyone indirectly? Probably not. Now, extrapolate that to the majority of existing players who do not visit forums typically, they won't know either. In that sense being famous/infamous isn't really possible.

I think people who care about such thinks underestimate how much of a completely forgettable non-event it is to many people, to see that line pass by that tells us who holds the hall of heroes. I can play all night and when I log off I won't be able tell you a single name, even if the same one came by many times in a row. It's background noise, my brain doesn't process this.
