GW servers getting worse by the day.
vdz
Yes i know there has been a lot of topics concerning this issue. But to me it seems to get worse by the day.
No matter which server i pick, euro, american, international i keep getting massive lag spikes. And it's not only me. Sometimes whole teams lag or dc at the same time. Yesterday a guildie of mine complained about the fact that he couldnt play a decent ranger anymore because the lag killed his interrupting. I dunno if every area zone has the same problem but it surely effects a lot of players who live in the euro zone.
I would like to know from you if you're experiencing more and more lag spikes these days and from what area you're from. This, to get more insight into the problem.
I can live with the fact that ANET is using servers for GW2 or for any other good reason. But stating they didnt change a thing and pretending it's just as it used to be is pissing me off. I RARELY encountered lag spikes in the 2,5 years ive been playing now but these days it just a normal phenomenon.

i agree to this....lag used to be pretty much unheard of for me, but now its on a regular....all i can pretty much do nowadays is barter....and i know its not just me since my guild has be chirping up about it as of late.
The Little Viking
Yea, its bad. It used to be that international was good enough to play. American is out of the question. But recently, even euro is bad. moving on to asia. After that I dont know what i will do. Weekends are the worst though. Most times dont even bother to try to play on weekends because I cant keep connection. I sometimes think something goes wrong when they put in the short term weekend crap. But yes, I fully understand what your saying and yes, it can be horrible.

I think there already have been several lag/dc threads the last weeks.
For example, yesterday I was playing and suddenly lost connection, ending up with 007 (first time in a long time).
When I got back several members of the alliance were talking about their d/c, one team ended up with 3 d/c's in one team.
Same for lag, when I have lag several others have it but some others don't (mainly spikes, no constant lag).
Seems to me it's somewhere in the infrastructure and possible outside the influence of A-net. However, it's annoying and I would rather play without lag or d/c (think that goes for everyone)

It is getting terrible peeps lag out at the same time i run dungeons and if someone DC's other peeps tend to DC aswell.
I also get completly random lag spikes i suppose its because of all the peeps playing GW now what is it 2 million players now?

i had lag last time in 2006.. all fixed after spent 1500euros on new Computer..
so no lag for me

Download less porn, dont use other services (downloads, msn, wiki etc) while playing online.
Im having a hard time going over 100ms in the weekends (late night or early mornin i even get as low as 13ms..) so i doubt its the servers. I can also play america/int/asia without problems (except the language, i really do NOT know what those symbols mean..).
Have you tried running a virus scan lately? Lot of new trojans have been popping up lately.

How do I change servers eg to Asia outside outpost?
Or is it if I set it to Asia in an outpost it will remain as it is outside?

Shadowhaze
Same. I never had much of a problem with lag, but over the past weeks or so I've gotten a lot of it...and a lot of 007 errors. -_- Took me 3+ tries to get one mission done over the course of a few days (I got annoyed and just figured I'd try again later) because every time I would get close to the end, I would dc and get 007'd. Very, very frustrating.

This has nothing to do with system specs. If you cant even tell the difference between lag spikes and a bad fps or any other system/programming failures please dont post.

I'm currently not suffering lag on Euro servers... and most of the times I've had lag problems, it was due to problems at my own ISP, or faulty routers or other hardware somewhere between me and A-Net's servers. ie. it's usually NOT stuff that A-Net has direct control over. (Remember "The Frankfurt Incident" last July?)
Note the IP address of the A-Net server you are on, run tracert. Run "gw.exe -diag". Log a support ticket, and include the -diag and tracert results. If there's a general problem, and enough people do this, A-Net should be able to find where it is, and even if it's outside of their direct control, they may be able to "lean" on any third parties that are causing problems.
If you're familiar with tracert, you may be able to figure out for yourself where the problem is.
Good advice. Don't be so quick to dismiss the idea that the problem could be in your own PC. If you are infected with malware it's likely to make your games lag, as it eats up your bandwidth - by sending out spam email, distributing pron, breaking into government computers etc etc... :-D

A whole team disconnecting at once o/e having lag at the same time eventhough not in the same party or district ---> nothing to do with systemspecs or any kind of mallware.
Next to that im running a top of the line internet security here. So please stio the "uhuhuhu check your sytem specs, you got spyware stuff"

Last night my guild was doing uw. One d/ced 5 min within it. Then we tried again and someone else d/ced at the smites. Also, someone else d/ced at the smites but was able to come back. I was lagging a little too, but my guildies were lagging also ><
While doing eotn stuff, my friend kept d/cing over and over again and could not come back. You know how annoying it is to run someone who d/c's right before you zone? Or at the end of warband? Come on Anet jeez. And my friend NEVER lags, helll I lag more then him....I know it isn't our side when the whole team in uw is lagging -.-

Obviously there are things a user can try to do on their own.
And these are the things that the user should try first. And because the users here normally do not provide info on whether they took those steps - it's always welcome to list them. If not for the OP, then for additional users that might also be experiencing the issue.
Now if a person KNOWS that the steps they can take will not help (in the best of cases because they actually tried them already!) - they should state this because it clearly helps the person that can do anything about the issue since they get the full picture that way.
I mean, don't get me wrong - I LOVE pointing the finger of blame towards A.Net (Bring back the red crane you bastards! ) - but if there is a chance that the problem will resolve itself if the user takes certain actions - what do we have to lose?
On-topic:
Weekends are quite laggy - weekdays fairly normal.
And yeah - that is when I am not dl-ing porn.
(But then again - I am playing considerably less then I used to - so I could be just lucky ...)

I usually wouldn't post about this, but, last night I was lost connections at least 10 times. I was trying to do the new MOX missions. It seems I was getting kicked at the peak of the battles. Doing NOX was especially frustrating becasue just as I was getting his health down to below 30-50% I woud lose connection. Each time it took 3 tries just to get back in and by the time I resumed connection, my party would be dead and I would have to start again. I, actually, beat NOX by positioning myself away from the exploding Golums, so that when I lost connection I would survive. It worked and when I reconnected, I was standing there and NOX was disabled. Fortunately, when I did POX, I only disconnected once during the fight. I would have been really upset if I had to have started the whole thing all over again because that trek to find the secret lair is a long one.
For all those who are suggesting that the issues are with the persons computer, I have a brand new system with a dual boot. I have an OS set up on a partition for games only. It's a very clean OS, with nothing running in the background. I don't even have a virus scanner running. I don't access the internet from this drive so there is no need for spam filters or spyware filters. However, just to be safe I have portable apps that I can run just to make sure I don't pick up anything by osmosis. So, in my case it isn't the computer.

So what you are saying is that every single person's lag issues can not be traced back to something they might fix?
|
I know how to keep my computer clean, and i got a system here which is FAR above the systemspecs required for GW.
It is true however that users should check their own systems first, but the facts (people lagging at the same time, people lagging during the weekend, people dcing at the same time) are so clear that it's easy to state that this is not a problem which lies at the users end.

Hmm funny you should say that, the last 3 times I've done guild UW outings (not farming speed runs just guild get togethers) I d/c'd at the smites every time. Strange really, exactly the same spot 3 times in a row.

regina, yeah right.
yes weekends are the worst, weekdays have hiccups when its fine then BAM! a bunch of dc's in a row...lag up the wazzzuuu and then back to normal
if this is happening to lots of people I cant think that its us....but maybe something close to where the server is???

In HA the last few days, entire teams have been getting lag spikes that kick up average pings to 10k+.
In one match, 5 people on my team couldn't move or use skills for ~15 seconds.
Fix please/thanks.

I'm getting lag now, and not only that, but it's weird lag.
99% of the time I'm now having the lowest ping I've ever had in GW, around 50 instead of my normal 250, but the remaining 1% of the time my ping is about 4000.
And it's in short bursts. When the character stops responding I just leave the game for a minute or two, when I return my ping is 50 again.
The problem is not on my side, but I don't know if it's ANets servers or some connection in between that chokes.
Does anyone remember what the command to start the graphical diagnostic tool of GW was? I'd be interested in seeing if the lagspikes occur at fixed intervals.

Well, its hard for me to judge since I've switched internet connections several times. I have very minimal lag right now, but I am also on the fastest computer/internet connection I've ever had right now.
Really, I think that is a factor a lot of people don't consider. Has your computer started to get dragged down with more applications? Have you moved?
I mean, very few people probablly have had the exact same internet provider, comptuer, and set up over the course of 3 years.

Lag has been brutal in the past few weeks. I have a 15s lag spike in every 15 minutes. Try to PvP with that! And as usual, not a word from ANET, like "sry, working on it", not even "stfu bastards it is free isn't it".
I installed a ping monitor to see where I was standing at and I was amazed to see that on average anet servers had double the ping of random servers on the other side of the globe (and of course the lag spikes came from GW servers)!
WTF, when did ANET outsource the servers to the Mongolian steppes?

I have a laptop which is perfectly capable of playing GW at 60 fps and a very good internet connection. I do have a ping of >300 ms while playing UW in American districts but I guess that's because I'm Euro. So maybe that's part of the problem but I don't know, it seems worse than it was a few months ago. Or am I getting paranoid?

Everyone needs to remember that often times you have to think of the connections -between- your computer and the GW servers. You are not running an express fiber optic or null cable between your computer and the server. Your signal is being sent to a central hub which is then rebroadcast to the right location, most often more than one time.
There are a couple of things you might want to consider before you all go QQ I HATE YOU ANET as you all seem so keen on doing.
1. Your ISP might be engaging in clandestine (or even blatant) "slowing down" of your network connection. We've seen the court cases where certain ISPs admitted and defended their position on "slowing down" certain people's connections because they claimed that the amount of bandwidth being taken up needed to be regulated. Online gaming takes up way more bandwidth than general surfing, so they may be targeting you. (Don't know if this affects people outside the US).
2. The modern internet hubs take light signals from the fiber optic cable sent from your computer, convert it into an electric signal, route it to the correct location, convert it back into a light signal, and sends it on its way. This takes a lot of time (on a computing time scale) and if there is a lot of traffic at the hub, there will be delays as the machines backlog trying to route the signals to the right places. Thus it is a (probably good) possibility that somewhere between your computer and Anet's servers, there is a backlog. Thus you get lagspikes as you wait for your signal to be sent to the servers or vice versa. This would be more pronounced if it is a hub that all information to/from GW servers must pass through that is lagging because when many people are logged on, the hub gets blocked up.
Let's think a little here people. It's not like Anet runs our instances on set of 286s. Modern game servers can easily handle and process large loads of incoming traffic. If it was a problem with Anet hardware, you'd be unable to load in to certain areas or -everyone- would lag out of an instance at the same time, not just a few people.
A bit of information that seems to confirm my statements: I often play GW with my wife and when we get a d/c, we always get it at the same time and tend to reconnect within seconds of one another. Thus, it is neither our individual systems that are the issue (we both play on new laptops) nor is it GW itself (because our entire CoF team doesn't lag out). It is most likely to be an issue somewhere between the two.
This was shown, as a previous poster noted, during the large lag issues over in Europe awhile ago.

What is this lag people are talking about? I've upgraded my PC. Overclocked it from 2.53ghz to 4ghz on air and I have yet to experience this massive lag. Are you people sure it's the GW server and not your cereal box pc or bad ISP?
Why would anyone have to respond "directly to this post"? You don't think they get tons of this crap all day everyday anyways? If there really was a problem on their end I'm sure something as critical as keeping their servers up would have been dealt with already. If there really was an issue server side we would "all" experience it not just a random few unlucky individuals. I say you check your entire system and connections before you demand an answer from Anet. As it stands right now Anet doesn't have a solution for "your" problems.

what i find really weird..is that while i was getting disconnected in the dungeon, me and my friend were on vent...but we didn't get kicked off vent..my internet worked fine.I don't think its my computer either,i have no viruses..4gb of ram,8800gtx overclocked 1.5gb video ram, quad core, cpu temperature of 30-35 Celcious average..there shouldn't be a problem with running guild wars if i can run multiple copies of Crisis in the background. Maybe Shenbear is right, but a lot of people are experiencing it..when the whole freaking alliance says out loud in chat "wtf got disconnected" "lag" "30k ping" it isn't normal.

I keep lolling here at the so called "comp experts" claiming it's our system.
I hate repeating myself because i think you showed some interest in this topic by posting, therefore you should have read it, But franky i think we got some QQ's in the house.
No it has nothing to do with our specs, and no it hasnt nothing to do with our inet. Why?
- No lag during any other online game AND / OR online application
- People lagging at the SAME TIME
- People disconnecting at the SAME TIME
- People expierencing more lag during weekends
Only this last fact alone already shows that the servers are running at their limits.
Remember, we're talking about lag spikes here, not constant lag or stuttering which indeed may be caused by any kind of programming/system error.
If you havent got any major lag spikes at the moment, good for you. Pray to the lord that you wont get them. You're very lucky. You may think it's because ur imba computer rocks the heavens, but ey im sorry its not your comp.
